MrsBri · 17/11/2012 14:57

How are you remaining sane, Badger? That really is a looooong time!

Hi elmo :-)

PseudoBadger · 17/11/2012 15:12

Nothing I can do MrsBri so just have to go with it :(

Do you think it was easier in the days without scans / the internet? Find out you're pregnant and just get on with it?

PseudoBadger · 17/11/2012 15:31

That's kind of the approach I'm taking this time :o

hi newbies! Willkommen, bienvenue, welcome! Pull up a chair, crack open the alcohol free tipple of your choice and pass round the biscuits...

I've not had my scan appointment through yet and I'm 10 weeks now, is anyone else this far along and still waiting to hear when theirs is? I think I'll call up on Monday and ask...

Also, has anyone else called it yet and started wearing maternity clothes? I've got a lot in the loft from DS, feels a bit early but my clothes I still fit in to is rather limited...

Lyftiduft · 17/11/2012 18:15

Hello newbies. Yay for your scan Aloha :)

I'm 11 weeks according to mw dates and not had scan appt through yet either. Was told it usually takes about a week from booking to be 'on the system' here then to expect the letter a few days later. I'm guessing I'll be at closer to 13w by the time I get mine too.

Dontmind, I am in maternity trousers/skirts now, have a definite 'bump'. Need to get maternity leggings and bigger/maternity tights too...

CuriosityCola · 17/11/2012 18:44

I have started wearing my maternity jeans (10 weeks pg). Need some new leggings and tights. Found that maternity tights made a huge difference last time.

Anothercerealnamechanger · 17/11/2012 19:18

I got my scan letter this morning, 5th December when I'll be 13+0 so hopefully still able to do nuchal scan test as this time we are opting in to every test and scan we can have.

dreamydays · 17/11/2012 19:19

Totally agree about tights. Finding mine so uncomfortable these days. But feel I need to wait for the scan before digging out the maternity clothes - so I know it's not just biscuits in there!

arlandria welcome, I am just a day ahead of you at 11+3. My scan is on Fri, ie 23rd - seems unfair you have to wait til Dec!

CuriosityCola · 17/11/2012 19:28

anothercerealnamechanger is it bad etiquette to ask about your previous birth experience? Or to ask for link to your birth story if you don't want to frighten first timers.

Only asking as you have mentioned a couple of things, but I haven't wanted to comment or offer suggestions when I don't know what I'm talking about. Plus I'm nosey Grin

Anothercerealnamechanger · 17/11/2012 19:31

cola I recently did a thread in childbirth about my options as I see them, if you can find it that'll give you a heads up on what occurred.

Squidge123 · 17/11/2012 19:38

Talking about scans, with my daughter my hospital didn't do a dating scan so my 1st scan was at 20 weeks!! I have booking in on tues when am 10+2 then will get scan date then. Hi to all the newbies x

CuriosityCola · 17/11/2012 20:39

anothercerealnamechanger I hope you end up with a birth plan that you feel comfortable with. I think the way you have been feeling is perfectly justifiable. Lots of good advice on your other thread.

I'm trying to have as little intervention as possible, but will see what kind of labour I get. I need to research what impact having a previous episiotomy will have..if any. Don't really have the stomach for it at the moment though, so I'm going for ignorance is bliss approach.

arlandria666 · 17/11/2012 21:41

dreamydays i thinks its unfair too and have been sulking quite a lot lol i did have a scan at just under 7 weeks due to an early bleed and saw the heart beat then so maybe i should suck my bottom lip back in lol when are you due so far they have given me 6th June x x

SunnyL · 18/11/2012 07:57

Finally told my parents last night which is a relief. My Dad is a retired GP who clearly has lots of sensible advise so its great that i can now ask him. He says there will be a honeymoon period between 16 weeks and 30 weeks when i'll feel fab. He also pointed out that when he did his medical training a woman of 25 was classed as an older mother. At 32 i'm positively geriatric!

pinkapples · 18/11/2012 08:14

Oh my goodness sunny 25 is so not an older mother... I wouldn't have thought so anyway just have to get to 16 weeks then only 5 weeks to go Grin

DontmindifIdo · 18/11/2012 08:21

SunnyL, if it makes you feel any better, when I was pregnant with DS we had a few friends and both 'grannies to be' over (not a baby shower as I don't do baby showers, I did conceed having a girlie afternoon of chatting and eating cake sounded nice though) - we were talking about length of stays in hospital and I'd said that if it all went to plan I could be out the same day, but most likely just be kept in overnight and home the following morning. My darling mother loudly said "but surely you'll be kept in longer, what with you being an older mother? Do'nt they keep the high risk woman in for a bit?"

I was 30.

dreamydays · 18/11/2012 09:22

arlandria I also had a scan at 6+6! To check heartbeat following previous mc's. So far I am due 5 June but I guess that might change at the scan this week.

By the way I am in France where the patient gets a lot more control over scan dates - going to the gyn is just like going to the GP. She told me she wanted to see me between 12 and 13 weeks and I made the appointment for Fri.

At 13+4 will you be too late for the nuchal scan, if you want it?

arlandria666 · 18/11/2012 12:36

dreamydays i never thought of that i am going to ring the department tomorrow and see what they say x x

MrsJLS85 · 18/11/2012 14:16

cola I'm in the same boat as had episiotomy (and tear) last time and know that soon I will have to start researching what my options are this time, but dreading it. I also want as little intervention as possible, and am hoping with fingers crossed that giving birth second time around would be slightly.... easier? You know, things already stretched etc. would love to not tear again!

CuriosityCola · 18/11/2012 15:27

That's exactly what I was hoping. Was telling this to dh and he helpfully contributed, 'I thought the stitches pulled everything back together again.......like new?!' I haven't actually been able to correct this as I couldn't stop laughing long enough to speak. Grin

DontmindifIdo · 18/11/2012 16:20

Ok, people keep telling me it'll be quicker this time round...

ella0 · 18/11/2012 16:36

I'm 11 weeks tomorrow and my scan's on Tuesday. I was given my scan date over the phone at 7 weeks, but I haven't seen anyone in person yet; they do the booking in at the same time as the scan here.
