Just been reading the humiliating thread in childbirth. Think they might have enough anecdotes for a very funny book.

Here's hoping we all have fast and efficient labours.

I may have found a cure for morning sickness. Has anyone had the gingerbread muffin from Costa? Amazing!

grainmum · 18/11/2012 17:22

Hi everyone, hope you're all well. It's exciting as scans get closer but also I keep running through all the alternative outcomes in my head. I have a job interview tomorrow so that will keep me distracted for a little while but I have told them I'm pregnant so not holding my breath.

Anothercerealnamechanger · 18/11/2012 19:36

Good luck grainmum

I had that moment of realising that I was pg today, other than tiredness. I decided to cook up several different casseroles, bake a crumble, prepare a full roast, do toddlers dinner and start to think about foody presents for Christmas. Started cooking at 3 after doing the food shop, half past five I had to have a sit down!

Normally I'd bake and prep and cook for hours without needing to stop. It was v odd. I'm also becoming very fond of Coca-Cola which I usually loathe, and I'm thirsty all the time.

Stepawayfromthesweeties · 18/11/2012 20:20

I'm 10+2 and after 5 weeks of the most awful nausea it's starting to ease off, I've lost 5.5lbs so far but no doubt will start piling the weight on now that my appetite is back (in fact just chomping on a bag of crisps). Got our scan on 29th nov and can't wait. Starting to get excited now that I'm feeling a bit more like myself again Smile

PseudoBadger · 18/11/2012 20:22

I'm 10+1 and it's really weird how much better I feel today than yesterday (and most days before that)! Hope it continues...

Evening!

Am only 9+1 today - this really seems to be dragging!!! I am very jealous of all you ladies due at the beginning of June - scans are coming thick and fast now Grin

We haven't got a date for our scan yet, but last time it came through really late and we ended up having our scan on December 23rd -with DD measuring 13+3

MrsJLS and Curiosity Will be interested on the outcome of your research into tearing after previous birth. I ended up having an episiotomy with DD. The doctor who was just about to stitch me up was called away to deliver a set of twins so he left someone else in charge.

She didn't do a great job as the stitches came undone. Fortunately it turned out that she had done individual stitches...if she had done a running stitch my entire fanjo would have fallen apart Shock maybe

Good luck with the interview Grainmum

Hi all
Can I ask some advice on pregnancy vitamins? Are we supposed to take one pregnancy multivitamin, or just folic acid and vitamin D? Am confused! I had only been taking folic acid plus a vitamin c and zinc supplement until last week. Then my friend told me' it's better to take a special pregnancy vitamin combo and I bought sanatogen mum to be tablets. What is everyone else taking?

ella0 · 18/11/2012 21:59

I'm taking special pregnancy ones which contain a load of vitamins and minerals, including folic acid. I have always taken multivitamins, but I can't take my usual ones now because of the vitamin A in them.

I started off with Pregnacare Conception (while ttc), but that caused spotting (it has really high levels of certain vitamins), so I moved on to Sainsbury's Mum and Bump. They've now discontinued those (typical!), and the new ones come with fish oil (which I can't have as I'm vegetarian), so I've got the Boots version to try.

I still have a pack of the normal Pregnacare which I bought at the same time as the conception ones, but I'm too scared to take them as I've read they have caused people to spot during pregnancy. I'm sticking to the own brand ones as the branded ones seem to have the high levels of vitamins which don't agree with me (my diet's pretty good, so I don't need excess amounts in a supplement).

Sunbeam18 · 18/11/2012 22:02

Thanks, Ella - that's really helpful.

Anothercerealnamechanger · 18/11/2012 22:17

My diet is pretty good, I was taking separate folic acid and vit D when we were thinking we'd TTC, then stopped but started to take again when pg was found at nine weeks to be viable.

Make me feel really nauseous about twelve hours after taking them

Lyftiduft · 18/11/2012 23:19

Envy of all you feeling better! Gingerbread muffin you say...going to Costa tomorrow!

I'm taking Sanatogen mother to be multivit and have also started on the spatone at midwife's advice to avoid low iron. My diet is crap at the moment, still can't face any veg so I need all the nutrients I can get!

Lyftiduft · 18/11/2012 23:25

re tearing I'm being referred to consultant to discuss ELCS, which is what I want after previous experience. Still affects me now both physically and mentally and there is no way I'm gambling with the stats as it tearing could be worse than last time with long term consequences. Curiosity my DH wouldn't dare to say such a thing, think he is still traumatised too Sad but glad you could laugh at yours :)

RueDeWakening · 18/11/2012 23:52

I'm taking 5mg of folic acid (prescribed dose for high risk PGs) and a vit B complex that I take anyway due to borderline B12 deficiency.

I didn't realise we're meant to take vit D, can you get that on its own or just in multivits?

MrsBri · 19/11/2012 06:31

You can get Vit D on its own.

I'm taking folic acid, zinc and Vit D, all as separate tablets.

DontmindifIdo · 19/11/2012 07:56

Boots do a combined follic acid and vit d one. I think they have the separate ones too.

MrsJLS85 · 19/11/2012 09:07

I am just taking the Boots folic acid. Although now that I'm 12 weeks I think I can stop soon. Can't quite remember from last time but I know I was told you only need to take it first trimester... I tried to take the Pregnancy Multivitamin but couldn't swallow the tablets and they made me sick! Am eating loads of fruit and veg and the moment, so am hopefully getting my daily Vit C/Iron/etc through that.

oh lyftiduft that sounds like an awful experience with episiotomy and stitches, so sorry to hear. Even though I had an awful tear, the surgeon who stitched me up was excellent. I think I'm going to start researching soon the stats of a having a re-tear. If you have a good article, can you pass it on?

SecretSparkle · 19/11/2012 09:09

Im just taking a combined one, apparently after my scan I'll be given some vitamins to take throughout the pregnancy, anyone else heard this?

suzyrut · 19/11/2012 09:55

Hi all, had my booking in appointment on Saturday morning, all went well, dp came with me and was basically ignored by the midwife, I think he was dissapointed that it was so medical IYSWIM. Lots of bloods and a consultant appointment made for 16 weeks because of my previous pre-eclampsia.

On the vitamin front the midwife said to take a vit d supplament 10mcg for the whole of pregancy and folic acid till 12 weeks. I'm taking the sanatogen "mum to be" and it covers both if that's any help.

Scan on Wednesday and reach the magic 12 weeks tomorrow so in a week I'm hoping to breathe a little easier.

MrsJLS85 · 19/11/2012 11:34

FYI for anyone traveling over Christmas:

I rang up some travel insurance providers this morning to get some quotes for our Christmas holidays, and being pregnant is NOT a "pre-existing medical condition", thank goodness. As long as you have checked your airline policy in regards to when you can fly, and you have a letter from your Doctor/mid-wife, then insurance providers don't need to know about the pregnancy. It's lovely most of us will be well into the second trimester by then, so its the perfect time to have a holiday before we're too big and uncomfortable!

CuriosityCola · 19/11/2012 11:36

I'm just taking folic acid. Last time I took pregnacare, but they are like horse tablets. Decided they weren't much use if they ended up down the toilet.

As for laughing at the stitches, it's just became our way of dealing with it. Plus I asked for mine rather than having consultant and ventouse. So I feel positive about it because it was my choice. Not sure that makes sense. My midwife was lovely. I also had it in huge writing that no-one in training was to do the stitches.

CuriosityCola · 19/11/2012 11:36

Where are you going away to MrsJ?Envy

webminx · 19/11/2012 12:00

Hi all,
Been dropping in from time to time - bit nervous of "committing" to this pregnancy until the 12 wk scan due to MMC last time but slowly allowing myself to get excited, despite myself! This will hopefully be DC2 for us and I am already quite big - has anyone else had to undo buttons, store away half the clothes in their wardrobe and go up a bra size already? Am only 8.5 weeks! Think last time, I didn't have to wear maternity clothes til 16 weeks! Mind you, the constant supply of cheese & crackers to keep the nausea at bay probably isn't helping....mmm...cheddar....

MrsJLS85 · 19/11/2012 12:42

cola we're off to Florida in December to visit the parents-in-law - am very excited!

webminx have also been craving cheddar big time... its really been helping the nausea, and I've been in the maternity jeans since 10 weeks. With DD1 I didn't show until nearly 20! Things have really picked up this second time around...

webminx · 19/11/2012 14:40

MrsJLS Florida sounds lovely! Bon voyage!

Anothercerealnamechanger · 19/11/2012 15:07

I'm still in my normal clothes but I have a definite roundness to my tummy which isn't blubber!
