Mrs congrats on being the first of us to reach the 12 week scan! It's so exciting that we're beginning to get to that stage. Mine is next Friday...

Told my boss today, I was feeling gulty at not telling him as he'll have lots to sort out and we won't see each other much for the next couple of weeks. We don't get on brilliantly but he was in fact reasonably supportive. But I was a mess, couldn't stop crying as I asked him not to tell anyone else as I've a history of MCs. Wasn't the professional approach I was aiming for! I've had a hellish week at work, haven't been sleeping (partly for worry about telling him) and am dissolving into a tired and emotional wreck!

MummyInHeels · 15/11/2012 20:02

Thanks for the advice regarding strep b - my widwife said its the new buzzword at the moment with new mums and as they test urine at every antenatal visit, if there's anything wrong then it will show up so to stop worrying!
My scan is booked for December 10th - can't wait!
I have a really stupid question...
I'm eating really healthily and have been munching on spinach thinking it's great for some extra folic acid and iron etc. However, on the packet it says that it's especially high in vitamin A Shock
Is spinach safe? I thought we had to avoid Vit A?
Sorry if i'm being really thick!
x

MummyInHeels · 15/11/2012 20:02

midwife, obviously - not widwife! xx

AlohaMama · 15/11/2012 20:35

Hi all

collector Glad things seem to be calming down, hopefully nothing to worry about.

curiosity I'm pretending I didn't read that. Last time I definitely felt better at around 12 weeks, and I'm sticking to that. Can't cope with the idea of feeling sick for another 30 weeks!

Anyway I had my appointment this morning. No mention of a faint positive so I guess that was nothing to worry about. I had a dating scan, showing now as 8+1 so a couple of days earlier than my calculations. I think they're going for an earlier due date as last time I had to deliver early due to hefty size of DS. Oh yes and there was definitely a baby in there with a good strong heartbeat so that's good! Took lots of blood. Now I think it's just 4 weekly appointments till my next scan at 18-20 weeks. I live in Hawaii so the system is a bit different here, I think you just have the dating scan then 18-20 scan where you can find out gender if you want and they do all the measurements. Then I guess that's it if there aren't any problems.

AlohaMama · 16/11/2012 04:33

By the way, I have a recommendation for morning sickness...I've been feeling awful all day, managed to have a small dinner but was still feeling sick. I've just eaten a Haagen Daazs ice cream bar and am feeling remarkably better. For all those fellow sufferers out there, I highly recommend it. Now I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that must be some kind of conclusive proof on the medical benefits of Haagen Daazs Smile

SecretSparkle · 16/11/2012 06:25

aloha minstrels had the same effect on me... Until they came back up 30 mins later Sad mildly jealous of all those scans!!!

MrsJLS85 · 16/11/2012 07:29

congrats Aloha on successful scan :-) Its lovely seeing the little one in there, and the heartbeat!

mummy, I'm sure you would have to eat A LOT of spinach injecting it with an IV for it to start being a problem. I think you're safe! The advice is to stay away from Vitamin A tablets.

CuriosityCola · 16/11/2012 10:21

Yum...I didn't know they sold it as an ice-cream bar. I have been munching popcorn. It is healthy apart from the sugarGrin

suzyrut · 16/11/2012 12:28

Morning ladies and happy friday! Have you guys had your booking in appointments yet? Mine's tomorrow and I have a couple of questions....

  1. Did you take your dh/ps?
  2. I had pre-eclampsia with my daughter 10 years ago has anyone had a pregnancy afterwards and how do they manage it?

Also car broke down this morning (busy dual carriageway in fast lane!!) and according to sharp intake of breath style comment from AA man it's going to cost between 1 and 2 thousand to fix, just what I need before christmas and with baby on the way!!!!!

Thanks all Smile

SecretSparkle · 16/11/2012 12:30

Suzy I had mine on monday, it was at home, and DH was there as well. It was useful to have him there actually because I didnt take it nearly as much as he did because it was a bit of an information overload!!

MrsBri · 16/11/2012 12:37

Oh my god, Suzy, thank god you're ok.

What's wrong with the car? Is it worth fixing? Ouch though :-(

I'd like to know if people take partners to booking in too as I know my DH will want to come.

grainmum · 16/11/2012 12:49

I'm not taking my DH to booking - I think he would just get too bored with endless questions and find it hard not to show it. He's definitely coming to scan though.

CuriosityCola · 16/11/2012 13:04

My dh came with me last time to booking in appointment. It's not necessary as it is just a load of questions, but he likes coming along to these things. Was worth it to hear baby's heartbeat. Good chance to meet the midwife etc.

MrsJLS85 · 16/11/2012 13:46

DH came with me to booking in first time around because he just wanted to meet the midwife, see the procedure, and just generally be a part of the process. It was actually quite useful for him, and helpful because they do ask a bit of family medical background stuff, etc. This 2nd time around though he felt he didn't need to come, he stayed home with DD, and that was best. He will only come to scans for this pregnancy.

Anothercerealnamechanger · 16/11/2012 14:12

Dh came with me both last time (1st pg) and this time. This time because quite honestly we're both shit scared of this pregnancy and labour, I needed him with me as I couldn't have walked through the doors on my own.

suzyrut · 16/11/2012 15:20

Thanks all, dp is first time dad (this is my 3rd so I think I'm a bit blaze about the whole thing) so he's pretty keen on coming with.

mrsbri thanks am fine, it's an automatic and looks like the gearbox has gone, just stopped driving, fortunately I was going downhill and someone nice let me pull over as soon as I stuck my hazards on so rolled to the side of the road! Typically it's just outside of warranty!!!

Sunbeam18 · 16/11/2012 15:30

I had my booking in yesterday and just went alone. My boyf offered to come, but I didn't think it was necessary. It's just a load of questions about medical history, urine sample and four tubes of blood taken! I was told it was too early to hear heartbeat at 9 weeks. He came to the scan this week though, and will be at all scans. X

MrsBri · 16/11/2012 15:31

Make sure you write to the manufacturer and ask for a goodwill contribution to the cost.

Emphasise the danger you were in, etc.

Can sometimes get a fair chunk towards it that way :-)

Sunbeam18 · 17/11/2012 09:16

Have I missed a new thread starting again??

MrsBri · 17/11/2012 09:20

No...just gone quiet for some reason.

CuriosityCola · 17/11/2012 09:30

Threads in here always go quiet at the weekend. Less time to fret Grin

PseudoBadger · 17/11/2012 09:34

I'm here, 10 weeks today - it's gone very fast! Less time to think about it this time :o
