Nope - ring when your waters go, or if regular painful contractions lasting a minute, every 5 minutes for at least an hour. If you can cope with waiting til they are every 3 and there are no other concerns, then you would be best to do this, as for the majority of people, active labour needs them to be every 3 minutes (3 in 10 minutes). Some people will always buck the trend though... but generally speaking! I always ask people to ring if they feel they aren't coping, whatever the contractions are doing.

Or any other concerns really... a show at term is normal Grin

Passmethecrisps · 19/10/2012 22:18

Good oh. Thanks very much detective. I was a bit concerned about it as there has never been any issue before. I think that coupled with a possible UTI made me come over all concerned. I shall chill now.

Are you having any contractions blonder? Our parenting class suggested a call to triage as soon as any contractions started just to keep them in the loop:

ShellyBobbs · 19/10/2012 22:27

Detective £9 a bottle! I get all my aromatherapy oils from here, never had a problem [http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/400309817126?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 linkey] £1.70 for 10mls.

ShellyBobbs · 19/10/2012 22:27

linkey that works

TheDetective · 19/10/2012 22:30

I cried Shelly stupid Holland and Barratt grrr! I just wanted to get it there and then! I'm too impatient!

ValiumQueen · 19/10/2012 22:33

Very promising blonder. Fingers still crossed for you x

I think pineapple juice is better, fresh stuff as it has the core mashed down. Much easier to consume in larger amounts. I believe several truckloads are required to make a scrap of difference Grin

ShellyBobbs · 19/10/2012 22:33

Haha, I know that feeling!

TheDetective · 19/10/2012 22:43

Oh, and a recommendation from me! I got my cot bed mattress finally today after months and months of searching for the right one!

I have to say, it is SO comfortable! Much better than anything else I've seen in its price range. It is the Saplings Coolmax Cool Flow mattress Got it for £75, which was the cheapest I found for it.

I love it!

blonderthanred · 19/10/2012 22:50

Thanks Detective and others. Got in bath, had very sharp pain in fanjo, got out and had quite a bit more of the same stuff.

I don't think I'm having contractions, just tightenings but not painful. A bit of period type pain which I guess is good.

Another MNer kindly sent me some Clary Sage oil which I was going to use over the weekend, I'm also happy to pass it on once the baby arrives - I may not even open it at this rate. She had only used a tiny bit. I also heard pineapple juice is better as it's got a lot of the cores in, saves eating 7 pineapples!

Peaky1 · 19/10/2012 22:51

No frickin way! Why didn't I shop around for better priced oils? I got stung by health shop prices too Detective Angry

Peaky1 · 19/10/2012 22:52

When are you supposed to start using the clary sage by the way?

blonderthanred · 19/10/2012 23:01

I think just when you want to encourage contractions Peaky, so not too early. And then during labour if things are slowing. I also bought Rose and Jasmine for the labour as they are also meant to be helpful.

Pass my (very lovely) midwife kept squeezing my baby's bottom whenever she checked the heartbeat and then laughing heartily when the heartrate went up. If she'd squeezed the head I might have been even more alarmed.

MissMummy1 · 19/10/2012 23:02

My back hurts. And I've been having mild braxton hicks (not even remotely regular!) off and on for the past couple of days. DH convinced himself I'm in early labour. Education is a dangerous thing.... I'm 99% sure I'm not btw!

TheDetective · 19/10/2012 23:05

I really shouldn't have put The Very Hungry Caterpillar in to eBay.

DP is gonna KILL me Grin

I love it alllllllllllllllllllllll!

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 19/10/2012 23:28

Id love the footmuff if noone has beat me to it. Can't PM as I'm on my phone :(

TheDetective · 19/10/2012 23:43

You get first dibs Izzy! Send me your address tomorrow and I'll post it probably tomorrow afternoon as I'm taking DS to the cinema! If disater occurs I'll post Monday!

Iheartpasties · 19/10/2012 23:58

Just caught up with the thread. Wow mega congrats to those cuddling babies, how very exciting.

Iheartpasties · 20/10/2012 00:06

I'm always tired, I think it's natural, so whoever it was with a moany OH tell them to bugger off!! We are basically giving everything to these growing babies, all the goodness we take onboard goes to them, so as they get bigger it seems obviuos we will get more tired. Also it's so hard to sleep a decent amount of time at night that will make us tired during the day as well.

It's mega hot and sunny here, so I will be a little hurmit crab today and stay inside. I'm gunna have a shower in a min and then sit down and do some sewing. I just need to finish a blanket thingy I'm making for my best mate.

pikz · 20/10/2012 04:40

Ah the 4am club....ace!

kissyfur · 20/10/2012 05:38

Anyone else up at this hour?! cough, cough, cough! Wheeze, wheeze, wheeze! Sad anything you can take for a cough when pregnant??!

wellieboots · 20/10/2012 05:45

Wow, congrats little and nervous (and wasn't petite having her CS also? Can't believe how many of our babies are already here, makes it feel very real :)

Yes pasties it is a stinker of a hot one today, I am on pretty much constant liquids and being active for an hour or so then crashing on the lounge again!

TheDetective · 20/10/2012 06:20

I think I graduated to the 5am club today woohoo. Though I did lie here for a while refusing to look at the clock, and it was 6 when I did!

I'm staying in bed. For as long as I can tolerate. But I'm hungry already :( this is irritating for the person who usually skips breakfast all together, and certainly doesn't eat for 2 hours after getting up because I just can't face it usually!

ValiumQueen · 20/10/2012 06:44

Morning. I got up with DD2 to let DH sleep but he is up too. She usually wakes at 5 so 6 is a lay in! Hoping to sneak back to bed shortly.

kissy may be an idea to see a doc about your cough as we are much more prone to chest infections when pg and you may need antibiotics.

Iheartpasties · 20/10/2012 06:46

Oh lord I have not done a thing today - I'm too tired to even do a thing! I have managed a fair amount of eating though!!

Sophiathesnowfairy · 20/10/2012 07:13

I did quite well, woke up around 6:00, DS came into bed with us and now DH is taking him out for breaky. Girlies have shut themselves in their room and are chatting about something so I am left in bed ALONE! Until they squabble about something.

With regards to the clary sage do you have to dilute it witha base oil and use it in the bath or a burner?

My theory, for what it's worth, [hmmmmm] about all these things like pineapple and raspberry leaf tea, is that they do not start labour, but in me they do tend to bring on Braxton Hicks with avengence which I suppose has it's own job to do in getting your body ready.
