Congrats to nervous! Glad to hear BF is going well Smile

All the best for your CS rowing look forward to hearing your baby news soon

Oooo YW that sounds exciting, hope you get the birth you want. Good luck!

VQ best of luck for the pre op check, and hope you start to feel better soon

36 weeks here today, got a scan later on this morning, then out to lunch with my work mates. Then consultant appointment this afternoon. Still got a horrid hacking cough, poor DD has it now too Sad It's a very wet and grey autumn day here in Sussex, still its my first proper day of mat leave so am happy Smile

Peaky1 · 22/10/2012 09:03

Crikey yes good luck to Rowing, YW and VQ today!

NervousAt20 · 22/10/2012 09:14

Good luck today rowing

I'm glad your getting checked yellow fingers crossed for you

TheDetective · 22/10/2012 09:51

Boing! I feel fresh as a daisy! (almost!) Managed to get to sleep at 2230, and although I woke again about 20 times, I didn't get up for a wee, look at the clock, check my phone or do anything other than lie there and try and snooze! Finally rolled out of bed at 8!

I think I have worked out why the difference. We had a massive roast dinner last night, quite late, about 8.30pm! I was totally stuffed, to the point of it hurting! I've noticed that is what I've been wanting on waking - food, not breakfast, but proper food. And then I've been eating loads in the day, but by tea time I'm not that hungry, so only managing a small amount, thus probably the reason why I've been getting up!

Shall have to see how it goes tonight! I'm just baking some croissants, which will be my first breakfast item in weeks! I've been eating all kinds in the morning for my insatiable appitite Blush

Just waiting on a GP phone consultation, so I can get something for this damn thrush cheapskate, I'm not paying for it! and then can go collect the prescription and the one for the antibiotics.

DP is opposite me, snoring on the couch Hmm it is just as irritating even when you aren't trying to sleep! Might see if he wants to go to the cinema today, as DS is at his Dads tonight Grin

YW Probably piss, as VQ says. I was quite convinced mine were going. But it is definitely wee. All the time. Pads are costing me a bomb at the minute!!!! It is so not glamorous this pregnancy thing. But maybe not... it could be your time Wink keep us updated - that's an order!!!

Rowing Best of luck!

Passmethecrisps · 22/10/2012 09:57

Morning!

Omg Yw that is so exciting! I really hope you get your island birth.

nervous Ellie is a lovely name! I am very jealous of your tiny wee snuggles

VQ I hope your pre-op goes ok today

Rowing another one who will have snuggles later on today! Good luck

Serving just pudding pasties is the way forward. I might only ever serve pudding from now on. We had friends round who were taking us out to lunch - one of those deals where you get 2 courses cheap but pay more for 3 courses so we went back to ours and had pudding there. Choices were apple and rosemary crumble and banoffee pie. Both were delicious even if I do say so myself. Leftovers will be served to our lunch guest today!!

I got one ring off not a moment too soon. My fingers are very sore to bend today. I will need to work at getting at least the wedding rig off. My other ring is gold so can be sawn off if need be. I like it but am not emotionally attached like with the wedding ring. Not sure how I would be sawn off anyway. Will need to wait until later as the heating came on and now the house is like a wee oven.

Izzybuzzybuzzybees · 22/10/2012 09:57

Good morning! I am exhausted again today but I think that's just going to be me til the end now.

vq it was lovely to see someone noticed I was quiet :)

I've just put a ham Hough in a huge soup pot to make a big pot of lovely homemade soup. Going to fill it with lots of lovely veg and barley. Can't wait to eat it!! But will take hours unfortunately.

Cant remember who asked ? liliana but yes I've had health visitor out. It's a new thing supposedly to introduce you before baby arrives so that its easier post baby or something like that. She was lovely.

Good luck rowing and YW

MissMummy1 · 22/10/2012 10:02

I had a health visitor out last week too. Like izzy says, it was for them to do a wee meet and greet thing, talk about the services they offer, and fill in yet more paperwork! Mine was lovely too. Many moons ago she was actually our school nurse, thank god she didn't remember me though! Anyway, she was lovely and it's nothing to worry about. Only complaint was she was half an hour late, but apparently that's only because she couldn't find our house (she wouldn't be the first, when I viewed it for the first time I couldn't find it either!)

Iheartpasties · 22/10/2012 10:06

You're baking croissants? Send one my way please.

TheDetective · 22/10/2012 10:08

Digital croissant for Pasties on its way....!

I'm thinking of declining HV services. I'm not decided yet, but first time around with DS I didn't find any use in them.

I'll see how I feel afterwards!

Lilliana · 22/10/2012 10:13

Thanks for the reassurance re the HV - won't worry about her coming then (but will still end up cleaning madly before hand so our house is less hovel like!)

After the ring chat I tried to get mine off this morning with soap, no budging them :( worried I have left it too late now. Any tips? Really hoping it is just the burn that has swollen my finger and it will go down They're platinum so no idea how they could be cut off and I really don't want them to be cut!

Mmm croissants, I really fancy them now.

Chunkychicken · 22/10/2012 10:14

Hi all. Can't say I have read the last few pages, and unlikely to now but good luck to those people going for checks etc :)

Looking for a little advice. Despite this being my 2nd dc, I'm really anxious about monitoring movements. I was always fairly calm with DD - as long as I felt something regularly, that was fine. This one, with being on MN, having the Count the Kicks campaign awareness etc, I'm constantly on the look out for tell-tale signs.

What I'm asking is, does anyone else's bump actually have a "routine"?

I tried to establish the pattern early on, as suggested by the CTK site, but baby hasn't maintained the same pattern at all and I don't have the same routine every day either, so knowing that my walking could lull baby to sleep etc means no 2 days are the same iyswim!!!

Baby was quite quiet last night, but still moving lots, and again, was quieter this morning than yesterday, but still moving well. Do I worry? Do I just assume a sleepy day? Do I just take reassurance that there are movements full stop? Confused

Chunkychicken · 22/10/2012 10:16

Lilliana have you tried putting ice on your fingers (NOT your rings though) and holding your hand above your head? If its fluid retention, rotating your wrist with your hand in the air might encourage fluid to drain away...

TheDetective · 22/10/2012 10:17

Washing up liquid neat, or cooking oil Liliana!

I forgot to mention last night, that I think the cat may be out the bag for MIL... she went on my laptop, and asked why I had been looking at baby boy clothes! ARGHHH! I just said I had been looking at Next - True - and they don't have a unisex section, so you have to look all the way through the clothing to find anything! I then tried to show her what I had bought (which was a bear pram suit!) , but couldn't find it as it was on the sale section, and had now disappeared! So not sure if she believed me. Oh well!

Little bit gutted, as we have managed to keep it to ourselves (and you lot!) for so long! GRR!

Passmethecrisps · 22/10/2012 10:19

lilliana chill! Don't so a me and damage your finger in panic!

I have done a bit of checking and, worst case scenario, platinum can be cut off.

Stop fiddling with your rings as it makes the swelling worse. Decide when you are going to do it - middle of the day - and soak your hand in cold water for 15 minutes. If you wrap ice in a bag and towel you can also elevate your hand for 15 minutes. Then try with a huge amount of some sort of lubricant. Work slowly and alternate pressure from top then bottom.

There are other methods but this is the most straightforward. You also realise I am advising you having completely freaked out last night and almost dislocated my knuckle getting my engagement ring off and now have a wedding ring jammed on an injured finger. I am going to leave it a day or so to let the damage repair. Maybe do the same with your burn.

Iheartpasties · 22/10/2012 10:28

liliana oilive oil? But if you have been trying to pull your ring off your finger will be sore so maybe leave it until tomorrow, maybe put your hand in some very cold water or hold an ice cube to it, then oil up your finger and that might get the ring/s off?

I found the HV very stressful! Others find them lovely and reasuring. I got caught up in a massive stress-fest with dd and weighing her, in the end i stopped and then relaxed and have never looked back - never bothered with hv's etc since then, but thats just me :)

Iheartpasties · 22/10/2012 10:30

i mean olive oil?!

GTbaby · 22/10/2012 10:31

Re rings I took mine off in July!
5 days post birth and my fingers r swollen so don't take the chance! Even if u dont mind having the ring cut, it's one more thing to b done when u want 100% attention on u n baby.

Tips for taking off if fingers r swollen.

  • put ur hand above ur head to reduce swell
  • pull so ur ring fingers face the sky
  • wash ands try taking off when soapy
  • cool hand using ice pack

My midwife turned up out of the blue. I thought she wud call on 1 st day home to arrange visit. Bed room was a mess, couldn't find my notes. But she said she was happy n I seemed organised (hidden behind the mess). So wouldn't worry about it.

Saying that I was due my 5 day visit yesterday n no one turned up Angry

ShellyBobbs · 22/10/2012 10:35

Rowing Good luck for today :)

YW Good luck to you too, I'm so jealous Grin

Peaky Lol at your dream, sounds as daft as the ones I have!

horsey I've never had to take my rings off either, and you're welcome :)

Detective After I met my health visitor last time I asked to be taken off for the same reason.

After the massive diarrhea fest the other night, I'm now back to rabbit droppings
Angry. Remember the days when you could have a poo with your kecks and pants above your knees? Now I have to drop them right to the floor and struggle to pull them back again grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

And for anyone wondering how big a rhino dick is, wonder no longer rhino dick

Grin

You'll miss me when I've gone Grin

ValiumQueen · 22/10/2012 10:38

chunky my baby does not have a set routine as such, as I do not. I try to lay in bed until I feel movement. Going onto my back with the tum to the light seems to wake him. He stirs when I eat, and when I sit down which is not very often. He also perks up as I go off to sleep. So long as I feel regular movements I am happy. If I struggle to think when I last felt him, I eat something sweet, or lift my top to the light, or give him a stroke and he wakes and responds. As always, if worried, seek guidance from the professionals. Hope all is well and baby gives you lots of strong wiggles.

izzy I am quite concerned about you and tits because of the severe SPD with complication of older children to care for too, that is why I am a bit of a mother hen. I remember how hard it was last time for me, and how it impacted badly on my mental health at the time. My pelvis is getting increasingly sore now, but the end is in sight for me.

I am only going for a check today with the anaesthetist. Unless there is a major problem, I will not be having my baby today.

I know my HV very well as we have worked together in child protection for some time. I class her as bordering on a friend, so I am actually really looking forward to seeing her.

MissMummy1 · 22/10/2012 10:43

Liliana my hv told me my house was too tidy and not to make an effort just for her - I hadn't, in fact I was stressing that I hadn't hoovered and dh's crap was all over the table! Dive knives on the coffee table - I was certain we'd be put on a list!

Chunky mine has absolutely no pattern. I've been told to put the mostly lack of movement down to my strong stomach muscles and anterior placenta. Only pattern mine has is whenever I start stressing and dialling the number for triage, they kick off inside me. Big style!! It's a constant worry though isn't it?

Wonder how yw's getting on?

Also good luck to the lady having their csection today - gahhh baby brain has forgotten who!

ValiumQueen · 22/10/2012 10:46

HVs are more concerned if a house is utterly spotless as it suggests that mummy is not spending enough time resting, feeding, bonding etc. obviously there are some super women who can achieve both, but I am not one of them. If there are soiled nappies , injecting equipment and empty bottles of vodka strewn around then that is also of concern. Obviously. Babies do throw your life upside down, so remember to concentrate on the priorities.

Chunkychicken · 22/10/2012 10:52

Thanks guys. I have felt movements today & of course, as soon as I think 'when did I last...' baby moves!! S/he is fairly fidgety but given that all the advice is 'change in movement' and yesterday baby was so active all afternoon when normally they'd be chilled, then at bed time, they were quieter, its tricky to say what's a change to worry about iyswim. I guess, as long as they respond to prods/light/cold drinks & all the other things, I can be fairly content. I think its getting to these last few weeks & knowing there's still a lot to happen yet that makes you worry too - we're not out of the woods yet as it were. Thanks for the reassurance though :)

Passmethecrisps · 22/10/2012 10:53

My movements sometimes seem to have a pattern but sometimes baby doesn't respond as expected which can be really scary.

Eating makes mine wiggle
Lying on my right reading at night
Taking my ring off last night made mine very excited.

I had a day the other day when I just felt the movements were up to much. Now that it is bigger as well I sometimes struggle to tell what is a shuffle or a stretch and what might be Braxton Hicks.

Stroking mine (resorted to poking the other day) usually makes it shuffle a bit.

I do know what you mean chunky by the huge amount of information we get. I like being so informed but it is also very scary when things don't go exactly to plan.

Passmethecrisps · 22/10/2012 10:57

I agree VQ the standard of 'good enough' is not really very high.

MM you should spend some time in my house and that would make you feel better about the condition yours is in! I consider mine to be spotless right now but by the standards of other, less slatternly people, it is still not particularly tidy.

First day of maternity leave. I have already checked my work email.

TheDetective · 22/10/2012 10:57
Grin

I hate anyone coming when the house isn't spotless. It drives me mad! I'll probably be on the watch list Wink

Doesn't mean I've done the cleaning however....! Will still be DP's job forever

Shelly You have no idea how true that is. My knee touches the wall as I need my legs so far apart to allow anything out from the holes below! Did I ever mention the time in work when I got stuck on the loo for over 30 mins with a poo half out, but couldn't get the rest out Grin resulting in me pushing with all my might, kecks off completely, hands on walls... tears and snot.

Yeah. Fucking perfect that was!

I hesitate at clicking on Rhino dick though. DP might get jealous....!!
