Sorry for the not very imaginative title. Noticed old thread was full and couldn't find a new one.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Hullo all. I'd like to join in, I was on another thread (1st pregnancy, less than 12 weeks) a while ago, but I fell off due to morning sickness and decided not to join this one until after my scan.

Glad to hear everyone's scans are going well, I found mine to be a very magical experience. Our baby was lying on his belly too so I was also being shaken about by the sonographer. Thankfully she was lovely though, and she showed us loads of fab stuff while we were waiting. We don't want to know if it's a boy or girl until the birth, so I'm using all my energy to resist looking up this nub theory thing!!

I'm another one with the rage, the underground does it for me every time! A few commuters have had an angry "do you mind?!" from me over the last few weeks. Also anyone smoking near me, especially right in the doorway at work, will get a level 1 death stare as it makes me want to hurl Grin

Other than a horrible cold, no real niggles at the moment. MIL has asked twice now (she's known for about 2 weeks) if she can come to the hospital, so I feel a slight rise in blood pressure whenever she rings - she's lovely, but once she gets an idea, we all hear about it ad nauseum unless/until she gets her way! Has anyone who has done this before dealt with this kind of thing?

TG - 12+5 (South London)

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 16:00

I really want to know what this nub theory is pretty please???? Anyone?? :-)

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 16:02

Tremole hah hah my mum keeps asking me if she can come to the hospital. I just say Oooh that's so sweet you want to but I'm afraid the scans are just for me and DH as they don't like overcrowded waiting rooms :-) Works a treat!

peardrop she means when I give birth Shock
I'm not really an expert on the theory, something about a 'nub' in the genital region and does it point up or straight out... google knows!

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 16:53

Trem omg!! If my MIL asked me that I'd be in Shock too!

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 17:00

Ooooo 10 I've now googled. This is exciting, damn it why didn't I take my photos to work!! Will have to wait until I get home now. I have 7 photos so I'm praying one shows the nub :-)

beaver33 · 08/11/2012 17:02

Tremolo welcome, but Shock at your MIL...!! Ain't no way mine is coming anywhere near me in hospital stirrups (or however they do things). I think my MIL would be far too OCD to do that anyway, thankfully. She'd be constantly fussing around telling midwives etc to put things in smaller containers (appropriately sized) for their implements. It'd drive me nuts.

peardrop yup, Google is the way. Still wasn't much clearer after reading it all, but it seems you need to find a sticky-out bit at your baby's rear end (the nub) and check which way it's pointing. If it's horizontal, or parallel to the spine, it's a girl. If it's pointing slightly upwards, it's a boy. Or so the theory goes.

And thank you all for your stories of rage. I have a new thing to rage about today. Work has enforced passwords on our Blackberrys so I have to log in every time I want to make a call, check a contact or do anything, really. Rage. People keep doing tea rounds and forgetting I'm pregnant. Rage. Why do smokers stand outside the front door so I'm clouded in toxic smoke the moment i step out? Rage. Why do M&S not do more veggie stuff in their £10 dine-in-for-two deal? Rage. You get a whole chicken! And then a little bit of pastry with some tomatoes on top.

I could go on Blush

peardrop2 · 08/11/2012 17:23

Love it Beaver

Why do I have to keep asking DH to empty the smelly bins in the kitchen. Does he not smell it and does he not realise that I'm pregnant and can't handle the smell. RAGE Grin

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 08/11/2012 17:29

Tremolo Does your MIL mean 'at the hospital' as in 'on site, to get to see you and baby asap' or as in 'in the delivery room peering over the MW's shoulder'?

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 08/11/2012 17:31

Sweets. Tonight I want sweets. Gummi bears, cola bottles, more gummi bears, them pink shrimpy marshmallowy things, more gummi bears. Husband better get home soon or I'll have no choice but to go and get them myself Shock

TremoloGreen · 08/11/2012 17:34

Ha ha!! So, I'm not sure her plan is to come and watch me push the baby out, but more hang around in the waiting room and be there as soon as the baby's born (?) I have no idea really. I think it might stem back to the fact that she gave birth 35 years ago and got to stay in hospital for a week so she could learn how to breastfeed. No-one is visiting me in hospital apart from DH, because if I'm there for any amount of time, it'll be because I'm recovering from surgery! In fact, I'm planning for no visitors for a few days after birth so I can sleep to the baby's schedule and hang around with my boobs out to establish feeding. Gawd knows how that will go down Confused

I've also been told twice that I can't buy anything before the baby's born. If I "must", we should store it at their house then they'll bring it down on the day. See above!!!!

I'm making my MIL sound mental, she is in fact very lovely, but slightly dotty sometimes. This is PFG and DH is an only child. Oh well. She still has 6 months to calm down a bit. We live in hope Grin

MaybeAMayBaby · 08/11/2012 17:48

Hey Trem,

And terra-I hear you with the rage. The kids at school have apparently been telling other teacher I hate them! Tbf, they are 16 and a bunch of wind up merchants, but I didn't realise I had been that bad.

I've just received my Doppler! Took me a while but I found the heartbeat. Aroun 130bpm. That's quite low isn't it? A boy...? I stupidly said that to my DH and he left for work with a big smile on his face. I hope he won't be too disappointed. My DD loved it! She doesn't 'get' that it's the heartbeat but thinks the baby is banging and knocking.

Nub theory. Didn't bother at all last time. But I read about it last night and I'm really intrigued. But my 11 week scan pic is wrong angle.

GeordieCherry · 08/11/2012 17:59

Hello, can I come in? Had my first scan today. I'm 12.5 weeks due 18 May
The baby was asleep & upside down so we didn't see much, v reassuring that all ok so far though. Downs tests back next week Smile

FlaminNoraImPregnantPanda · 08/11/2012 18:06

Tremolo if she's anything like my mum was when PFG (my daughter) was born 20 years ago, it'll only get worse :o. My mum was hovering around outside the delivery room door, like a vampire waiting for permission to enter.

Bunnychan · 08/11/2012 18:07

Why oh why do no one tell me how moody midwives can be!!!
I went to the docs at 5weeks been waiting to hear from the mw ever since. Scan tomorrow- had letter ages ago so I phoned the docs to chase the booking in appointment which they did. Today the bloody mw phoned me moaning that they were supposed to see me before 12 weeks. HELLO! I've been chasing you!
Who was it that mentioned pregnancy rage? X

wilderumpus · 08/11/2012 19:17

I'm starting to feel like my nausea is starting to lift at last, enjoyed my dinner for the first time in ages!

So Envy at all these fabulous scans, mines next wed and can't wait.

11+ 6

Wirrawoo · 08/11/2012 23:44

Ha! Was reading the posts earlier thinking, "I don't think I've had the rage thing yet", then ended up totally fuming at work tonight, fuming at lack of warm place to eat dinner and ranting at my boyfriend on the way home about the media-fed ideal of a perfect body. Realised after a few minutes that the rage had taken over Blush. Oops!

Bunnychan · 09/11/2012 06:30

Ha wirra! All I've heard lately is how niggly I've been Blush. I'm usually a patient person too.
Scan today and I'm absolutely terrified! I just hope everything is ok. Also, how am I not going to pee myself, especially if they run late?
Hopefully 12+0 today x
