Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Just had a obstetrician's appointment and am a bit upset. The receptionist wrote the wrong time on the appointment card (an hour early) at the last appointment, meaning I had to wait over an hour with DD for this appointment. If anyone has waited with a 2 yr old in a doctor's office for over an hour, you'll understand the sort of state we were both in by the time the consultant saw us. Anyway, she was trying to take measurements etc and DD was having a meltdown, so I was trying to get her to read books or play with the toys or even just hold my hand to calm her down and the doctor said very rudely, perhaps you should tell her off rather than asking her to play or to do things. She's going to have to learn to behave when the new baby is here. ?!?!? WTF. Didnt bother to engage with DD at all as the midwife sometimes does when DD gets a bit too close to the blood-pressure monitor etc. So now I feel like a shit parent. On top of that my iron level has bottomed out and the consultant was suggesting a transfusion might be necessary.

Sorry to all those who have had terrible days too, I read through the posts but my head is all over the place and I think I'm getting a sore throat - another bloody cold ...

okay enough moaning .... does anyone have any suggestions on how to clean a moses basket that has been in storage for two years - very dusty and musty smelling. I've taken the cotton covers off to wash and think I will have to buy a new mattress but the straw part of it needs a clean somehow I think. SHould I just wipe with a damp cloth?

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 24/10/2012 06:19

Oh walnut that sounds shit! I've only ever waited that long with a 4/5 year old and that's bad enough, I can't imagine it with a 2 yr old! As for the iron have you been taking tablets? Maybe if you try and up it in your diet you could avoid a transfusion. (my dad had a few last year and by and large they aren't that bad but you don't need to be worrying right now if you can help it)

As for the moses basket. Yeah a damp cloth sounds like a good idea, and also give it a squirt with febreeze or similar, that should help the musty smell.

Well I slept uninterrupted for almost 6 hrs! Go me. But now I'm awake and my brain won't switch off. My dad lent some money last night so the immediate worry is gone but it looks like I shall be out of work in 4 months time so we will definately have to move. I spoke to my parents about the different options available to us and dad said he'll have a think but I know my brother isn't going to be happy about it. Unfortunately I don't think it's fair that my parents are housing him cheaply and we're looking at homelessness. ( and my bro has no kids) So he either makes room for us there, or he gets kicked out and we move in which I would infinitely prefer as I'm not paying for restoration on a house that he's not going to respect, but I can't TELL my dad to kick him out the final option would be for me and the kids to go to my parents and DH to go to his mums. 300 miles apart. Not the best but it'll be better than being in a b+b with the kids.

Roll on Friday, god I need this holiday! Sorry about the moan ladies I'm thinking way too much for this time of the morning!

SpottyTeacakes · 24/10/2012 07:03

Stacey can't you speak to your brother? Maybe he doesn't realise the extent of your problems? I slept from 9:30 until 6:10! Lovely! My back hurts though.

Walnut I completely sympathise, I've had to do similar with dd but fortunately my Doctors/nurses are all really good with her and even hold her whilst I'm having the heartbeat done etc if she's being a pickle. It's really hard when you have a little one to look after too, what do they expect you to do with them?!

I've just finished off DD's Christmas presents in the Sainsburys half price toy sale, got her a toaster, kettle, cash register and medical kit all for £15 Grin and it was all stuff that was in my Amazon wish list!

emilyeggs · 24/10/2012 07:18

Can't believe consultant said that walnut! I would have turned round and said well she wouldn't be in such a state if I had been told the right time by your staff! Very Angry for you!

Also agree with talking to brother re house/money cant remember and can't scroll back on phone Blush

I was in the 2,3,4,5 am club last night, then my alarm went off Sad. Still, hopefully might get a good night tonight Smile

MaMaPo · 24/10/2012 07:20

Morning all,

feeling generally a bit poo today - I have a cold that I thought was on its way out, but has now settled in my nose and sinuses. No chance of a sneaky cold+flu tablet with pseudosphedrine, sadly, although it would sort me right out. My 'day off' yesterday was just as busy as a work day, and today I am at work from 8.30am to at least 8pm... I'm a bit exhausted just thinking about it.

Enough moaning! Went for lunch yesterday to a friend's place - she had a little girl about 4 weeks ago. Another friend, who is 36 weeks, came too. When she arrived I'd been there for a bit, rocking the baby who was squalling frantically, and the friend immediately burst into tears on entering! Hormones can do mad things to us.

Quite nice to spend time with a baby again though (famous last words) - last one was probably my nephew who's 3 now. And next will be mine, eeep.

Happy humpday Wednesday everyone!

utopian99 · 24/10/2012 08:07

Feeling less like death this morning, yesterday was truly grim, have lost 3.5lbs in 24 hours. Sorry to hear of those having difficult times..

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 24/10/2012 08:22

spotty it's really not worth me bringing it up with my brother. If anybody needs to do that its my dad tbh as its his house etc. I just wish I didn't have to worry about it :(

Oh well, AR least the kids are happy and healthy that's all that matters! And 2 sleeps until holiday yay!!

PurplePidjInAPointyHat · 24/10/2012 08:30

Any news from HoneyMum yet? Hope she isn't sitting in postnatal all lonely like!

JoJoB77 · 24/10/2012 08:49

Morning all!

Sorry to hear about your housing situation stacey, hope it all works out Smile

Well i've emerged from my grumpiness yesterday Grin its amazing what a good nights sleep can do.

Baby seems to be trying to head butt its way out of my cervix, it makes me wince everytime!

Hope everyone is well. I too hope honey is doing ok too....

pmgkt · 24/10/2012 09:15

Sorry to the others but I slept all night, no wee, no midnight party going on in my tummy, no heartburn, no ds1 being sick. It was lovely and just what I needed. Bet it won't happen again for at least a week!

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 24/10/2012 10:20

Morning all,

Stacey that is truely shit, I'm really sorry to hear that and hope you get something sorted. Now put it out of your mind for a few weeks, so you can enjoy your holiday.

I too had a lovely nights sleep, have been wee-free for 2 nights in a row. Bliss!

Just been to diabetes clinic and was in and out in 35 minutes. Last time took 6 hours over 2 visits so I am extremely impressed! Does mean starting work earlier though. Everything was fine, I'm not to starve myself and just give them a ring if my levels go haywire. Otherwise all good and I din't get told off for one bad reading Smile

WeeJo08 · 24/10/2012 10:44

Was just mean to DH for really no reason whatsoever. No idea why as I had a good night's sleep. Just had a bit of a cry at my desk, hoping no-one came to see me while I was snuffling.

Equimum · 24/10/2012 10:51

Sorry to hear you were treated so horribly at the hospitalWalnut. Waiting without a child is frustrating enough and you'd seriously expect doctors of all people to have some understanding of the situation! Angry for you.

Stacey I hope you are able to sort somethingout and that your parents and brother can come to some agreement to help you out.

Glad to hear you got on okay at the diabetic clinic Fandango

I think I may have ordered the last of the baby essentials this morning, thanks to a £15 off £100 discount code for Boots - nicely sorted the remaining bedding, breast pump (which was also on sale), maternity pads etc. Grin.

I'm also feeling particualrly pleased with myself as two pramsuits I won on e-bay for a total of £7.50 including postage arrived this morning, and they're like new. Went for second hand as they're really expensive and have been told baby may well be nearer 9lb than 8lb, so was very reluctant to pay highstreet prices for something so expensive which may only last a short period Grin.

Walnut8 · 24/10/2012 11:01

Thanks everyone, was very upset but DH and my sister also both agreed she was out of line, so I don't feel so much like a bad parent, just a bit cross at the ob for complete lack of understanding.

Stacey what a bummer of a situation. I hope it all works out - not what you need at the moment! Yay for the holiday though!!!!

weejo pregnancy is terrible for mood swings, isn't it? Don't worry, send DH a text telling him you're sorry and go and have some choc!

Well done for all the ordering equimum, I'm also online trying to get some bits and pieces delivered from the UK to Oz. All of our young baby equipment (cot, moses etc) comes from the UK where we had DD, so now trying to order replacement fitted cot sheets etc as they are all different sizes over here!

Ob said today that my baby now is very low, has dropped right into my pelvis. Yikes.

MyDaydream · 24/10/2012 11:47

Walnut sorry you had such a rubbish doctor, how rude of him. Some people just shouldn't be allowed to work with people, and after waiting an hour I'd be a bit grumpy and ready to go home.
Stacey hope your dad can convince your brother to move, sounds like you need the house much more than he does and would look after it more.

Spotty I'm a bit jealous of your DDs Christmas gifts, I loved playing shop and cook when I was younger.

I feel better today and have a new test booked for the start of December. Now I have visions of my waters breaking during my test because we go over a really big speed bump! Going to go to CAB about the overpayment to see what they can suggest and see if they'll call on my behalf to get that sorted. I also got a fairly decent sleep last night, which I class as not ending up on the sofa because of snoring, although I did have to get up at one point for a snack because I was so hungry!

DP has said we can go pay off the pram at the weekend and buy some paint to do up some drawers that are for babies room. Everything else has to wait until next month when hopefully DPs employer will have sorted out his wages but it's just bits and pieces we need now rather than anything big.

kate2boysandabump · 24/10/2012 14:46

walnut She was rude, you were doing your best and the situation was created by them. You aren't a shit parent Smile

Stacey So sorry to hear of your housing troubles. Hope your family can come to some arrangement for you.

Spotty I'm so Envy that you've finished your christmas shopping. I desperately want it done, but have a block about the last few gifts. I'm going to wrap what I've got tomorrow.

Have dropped off the boys with the in-laws and they are off to see the lights in Blackpool. Hopefully I'll get to have a bit of a rest before they get home.

HoneyMum21 · 24/10/2012 15:51

Hello all. Sorry been somewhat AWOL for a few days. Just checking in - everything had settled down and was even considering doing a last few days at work. However, saw midwife this morning and bumps heartbeat was fast so sent to assessment unit. Heartbeat was fine bit painful tightening a worried them so examined me and am 2cm dilated and poss leaking fluid. Still might not happen but they're keeping me in again.

SpottyTeacakes · 24/10/2012 15:54

Eek Honey sorry it's all up in the air again, are they going to give you 'stuff' to try and stop labour? Or is it just monitoring to see what is happening?

HoneyMum21 · 24/10/2012 16:00

No idea. No one has told me much yet!

emilyeggs · 24/10/2012 16:21

Hope all goes we honey. Thinking of you and keeping all things crossed Smile

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 24/10/2012 16:48

Oh honey sorry to hear you're being kept in again but at least they're looking after you. Put all thoughts of work out of your mind you and baby are the most important things right now!

Bellaboo123 · 24/10/2012 16:48

honey fingers crossed for you!

stacey hope things get sorted soon and your brother/dad sorts things out.

Well I've been told to stay home for the rest of the week by the doctor. They found protein in my urine and I've got a urine infection...combined with chest pain, indigestion and headaches I feel like I'm falling apart!

Had a strict telling off from the doctor to slow down now DP and mum are not letting move an inch...I'm climbing the walls already lol!

Midwife said LO is still breach and is currently bream...??? Not 100% sure what that means but think its the stage before engaging?

utopian99 · 24/10/2012 17:13

Sorry to hear about more issues honey, hopefully they can sort everything out now they know though?

My inner pelvis has started feeling a bit achey in the last week, is this normal? Am still at the gym albeit very gentle cross trainer only these days, but it can't be that can it? Was thinking maybe it's just him getting into position as mw at my last appointment said he was head down..

SpottyTeacakes · 24/10/2012 18:00

So I've got a date for dd's casts.... 21st November. To be changed every week for four weeks. Each appointment on a Wednesday. My fortnightly scans are all on a Wednesday. And this baby will be born the middle if December at the latest. I'm really stressed now but I can't delay it because it's too important Sad

Mummycox · 24/10/2012 18:52

Honey you're in the best place, hope you're both ok
