Mmm more likely have to move to my parents old house (either shared with my brother or kick him out) or move in with mil

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 18:11

It'll be alright these things always work out in the end Smile

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 23/10/2012 18:21

Thanks spotty

Queenofsiburbia · 23/10/2012 18:22

Oh Stacey, that's such a shame. Keep your ear to the ground, we just found a much nicer place for about the same money as we are paying now so it's worth checking websites etc every day.

Alison, I totally get you on the whole 'for you' comment. It's a major gripe of mine. Also if I have cooked supper, fed & walked dog, sorted out laundry, emptied dishwasher etc etc, then sat down with DH, occasionally before bed he'll load dishwasher then run to tell me Confused Quite often he says 'well that's everything in the kitchen done then' afterwards Angry

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 18:23

AngrySadAngrySad I bought some new curtains and ordered the wrong bloody size!! How could I be so stupid?! And j threw all the packaging away!! I hate our stupid stupid big windows they're bloody massive and nowhere does curtains big enough Angry

Secondsop · 23/10/2012 18:33

Spotty my carb portions have been smaller even than that! Think I may need the medication. Eg a pret superfoods salad with the small tortilla wrap sent me over, so ive been avoiding white flour, and i had some good numbers with potato so I had literally 7-8 chips (not massive ones) at lunch and that sent me to 8.0.

At present I'm having breakfast as late as I can to still get to work, to try to avoid the morning surge (and I don't have to get to work till 10 so I often finish my breakfast at about 9ish). I had a slightly different breakfast than normal today - instead of smoked salmon on burgen I had avocado on burgen - but it sent me to 7.9 whereas the bread with smoked salmon is normally around 7.0. But then yesterday lunch I had a pretty big baked potato which I thought was very high-release, with cheese and tuna, and the result? 5.9. There seems to be little rhyme or reason to it.

i am highly confused by the dietary advice i got too; the dietician said to aim for just the 3 meals a day but i'd read elsewhere that little and often was a better way of controlling it and that a nighttime snack was important. i also thought that fats and protein were important to slow down the carb release but the dietician said to try to minimise fats, and that the protein should be the size of a pack of cards. I'm a big girl, probably weighing twice as much as the average slim person, and although I'm not really feeling hungry as such, I'm not convinced I'm actually getting enough food.

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 19:16

Ooo I have colostrum! My nipples were really itchy after my bath now I know why!

Seconds it really sounds like you're doing all the right things I'm not sure what else you could do! Definitely don't let yourself go hungry though. No carbs can cause ketones so maybe that's why your dietician wants you to have some with each meal?

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 23/10/2012 19:31

I have a question for you both spotty and seconds I am permenantly hungry and have been snacking a lot (obviously on low gi stuff) but I'm actually losing weight - 4lbs in 4 weeks. I have now gained a stone overall and was a healthy weight pre-pregnancy. Is that something to worry about or do I just need to up my fats or something?

Blame the baby brain for the curtains Spotty, I can't do anything right now!

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 19:38

As long as the reason you're losing weight isn't because your sugar levels are excessively high I wouldn't worry. The baby is taking all your food and I suspect that your diet is a fair bit healthier now than it was pre pregnancy? I'm hungry all the time too....

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 23/10/2012 19:48

Thanks spotty no my diet's about the same, maybe I'm just burning more calories than usual.

Evening all.

I had my 32 week ante-natal appointment with the midwife today. Everything is fine and my blood pressure is perfect - I think it has got better over the course of my pregnancy! I also had my whooping cough jab and now I feel like someone has punched me in the arm.

The midwife also told me why she thinks that I might not feel lots of movement, apparently my placenta is anterior position which means it lies like a cushion at the front of my belly. It makes sense to me as any movement I get is usually very low down in my pelvis or up under my ribs. I just wish someone had told me earlier as it might have stopped me panicking so much!

The other thing that happened at this appointment was that the midwife told me that she has organised for me to have a private room, presuming that I meet their criteria. This is mainly because I am a social worker with drug users and I have two clients due to deliver about the same time as me. I have been quite worried about having to be on the ward if they are there. So, now I can stop panicking!

ellliebelle · 23/10/2012 19:56

werewolves thanks for all the advice i did bloods before and after my tea tonight it was 4.6 before and 5.6 2 hours after i dont think i meant so much will it mean no ill effect on baby if managed by diet vs medication i just meant if its controlled at a normal level

went to aquanatal tonight which turned out to be cancelled but did manage to speak to the midwife about possibility of still having a homebirth and she was still very positive :) she said insist on a scan to predict weight and that i could check babies blood sugars with my monitor after birth

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 20:00

ellie us type 1 diabetics will be expressing colostrum from week 36 and storing it so if baby needs a boost there is plenty there, maybe something you might be interested in?

ellliebelle · 23/10/2012 20:00

o no just realised i bought choc chip muffins yesterday before i knew about GD to take to my friends tomorrow when i go meet her new born, am i right in guessing i cant really have one :(

ellliebelle · 23/10/2012 20:02

spotty great advice thanks so much for that i will definitely try although expressing was never very successful for me in the past will you use a pump or express by hand?

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 20:02

You probably shouldn't. If your sugar level is below 4 I would have one otherwise not

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 20:03

By hand for colostrum as it gets lost in a pump apparently. The hospital can give you small syringes to put it in as obviously it's only small amounts then the syringes can go straight into the freezer

ellliebelle · 23/10/2012 20:44

Sorry for all the questions but wondering what is a good idea for snack before bed?i feeling really hungry thought about toast but no brown bread in is white bread a definate no no?

SpottyTeacakes · 23/10/2012 20:46

I wouldn't worry this once. Your levels were really good after your dinner, it's not like you're having a slice of cake Smile

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 23/10/2012 20:48

I've found white is really bad for me Ellie but people find different things shoot their sugars up. It's all trial and error. If you only have white and you're starving then maybe make cheese on toast or similar to offset the carbs? I know that works for some things. Or what about porridge or similar for a snack? Porridge is really good for me, but bad for others.

I do agree with Spotty though, your baby won't become a sumo wrestler overnight off one slice of toast! Smile

I just had a crunchie....

WerewolvesDoTheFandango · 23/10/2012 20:55

Ooh don't Spotty I am being virtuous (sp?) after the great chippy debacle of Sunday night. I desperately want the custard creams that DP is stuffing into his gob!

I've been leaking clear fluid from my nipples for months, with a tiny bit of white, but have noticed its gone on over drive this week, and I have been super emotional, crying at everything!

Someone mentioned a delightful discharge down below, I spoke to MW about this a few appointments ago, as long as its not green (merconium) cottage cheese like (thrush) or bloody then not too worry to much, but see the GP if its an excessive amount anyway.

Last day at work tomo, going to really miss it, not sure I'm ready to leave :(

Secondsop · 23/10/2012 22:09

Spotty thanks for your help - I'm going to ring the diabetic centre tomorrow and ask to speak to the dietician again. It is because of ketones that I'm meant to have carbs (I've had ketones in my urine quite a lot this pregnancy). The dietician didn't advise me on the importance of food combinations, ie having some protein and fat to slow down the release of the carbs, so I'll ask her about that as well as about portion size. At least at my scan the baby wasn't getting too big (in fact he'd dropped down the curve) so the sugars are not affecting him at present.

werewolves (I think it was you that asked this?) - if I'm hungry (which isn't often, actually) I have a bit of cheese or some nuts. I don't know if that's a good or bad snack for GD though as I was advised to try to avoid snacks! I wonder whether she thought I meant crisps and chocolate when I asked about snacks, as opposed to a general spreading out of food into smaller meals through the day. She was rather odd generally in fact. Eg when we talked about how I'd had high blood pressure during the pregnancy necessitating medication, she said "do you feel ok now - do you feel like your blood pressure is high at the moment?". Well how the feck would I know that??

I've also lost weight through the pregnancy - I'm 4kilos less than when I started, but I wasn't at a heathy weight beforehand so no-one seems in the slightest bit worried about it.
