Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Morning all. Not kept up very well the last few days as I've been so busy. I also braved late night shopping last night for maternity wear and thankfully got the grey mothercare dress but I was exhausted by the time I got home!
I got some lovely news yesterday in that my close friend since university had her 12 week scan and all was well. It is the due date of my first baby today so the good news is very welcome and has saved me from feeling too sad (along with flutters from my lovely DD Grin).
Sorry to hear some of you are still sick, I felt horribly sick this morning about for a while but I feel for those that are actually vomiting.
manda Hope you get to see the babies today!.
Will hopefully have a proper catchup later.

theTramp · 04/10/2012 09:44

Shel - sounds like the positive news is a much needed booster x

Idris: a welsh king of myth. A giant who could meet out madness or gifts like poetic inspiration. AND the name of the dragon who fuelled the fire of Ivor the Engine.
www.encyclo.co.uk/define/Idris

It's a Celtic boys name but quite nice for a girl too I think. Famous(ish) Idris - Idris Elba or the Wire and Luther.

Boo, made it half way to work today, dosed up on paracetamol and had to turn round and come home, just feel too rough. My immune system is really rubbish during this pregnancy. Means a day of cbeebies with dd, its the downside of having childminder near work rather than near home, poor dd has to put up with ill mummy rather than a day with her friends having fun.

Emus sorry things sound so stressy at the moment for you :( Hope you manage to sort things out and feel better too.

Names, I need some! Maybe that can be my fun activity for later.

zoeymlucas · 04/10/2012 10:01

Morning guys - I was missing in action I was reading everyones posts but felt to crap to wrote anything so just dozed in bed on and off and DH went to babies R us and got little man the baby chair I wanted which was nice of him and lucky as it was now in the sale and the last one the shop had! We are really struggling with names and it feels weird as DS2 was named before 16 week scan so its weird having a baby no name, lol! So far we like Rhys, Jacob, Ethan and Max but none is jumping out as 'the one'

Hope your ok today sheldon and am glad you have had some good news :) My due date of one I lost in Xmas day so am hoping being so big and caught up with DS's that it will pass :)

You will see babies Manada my consultant always check's baby at cervix scan to check everything so am sure yours will do the same.

Morning all, 16 weeks today YEY

Sorry some of you are feeling sick hope it passes soon, I'm booked for flu jab next Sat with dd1, poor child is getting injections all over theplace these days!

Sheldonella hugs for you today

zoey I love all those names, I have always loved Max, which my brother knew and he went and called his dog Max (just a couple of weeks ago), I'm trying not to read too much into it, as he was very cross I wouldn't let him have one of our puppies and has been off with me since, but my brother is not a dog person and has never kept one past the cute puppy stage.

My SIL is being induced today so waiting for some news

TheAngelshavetheOod · 04/10/2012 11:54

myjob I struggle too!

Day off today. Dh off too so we dh are cleaning for dd3s party at the weekend.

StormyBrid · 04/10/2012 11:54

Names! All we've been able to establish thus far is that neither of us is fit to name anything. The only boys' name we've been able to agree on is Thor Stormageddon, and I'm 99% sure I wouldn't ever actually do that to a child.

So we turned our attention to girls' names. Immediately hit upon one we both really like. A couple of days later, he'd started thinking of dreadful ways it could be altered by other kids at school. But nothing else has presented itself, so we're a bit stuck.

So I made a list! Only perhaps a dozen names for each gender. I showed it to him, and he vetoed every single one of them. I suggested he might like to come up with some names himself, since my abilities in that area are clearly lacking.

His list could have been subtitled "Stupidly Named Guitarists of the Twentieth Century".

I've now told him that unless he makes some sensible suggestions he'll lose vetoing rights and I'll name the kid myself. Although I still have no idea what I'll name it if that happens. Honestly, it's impossible. I had enough trouble naming the cats, what on earth made me think I could name a person?

mandasand · 04/10/2012 12:15

Hello everyone! Hospital this morning for cervix scan (it's behaving very well) but the woman who did it (who specialises in twins) spent more time showing us the babies! One was just lying there swallowing but the other was waving and flexing its legs and all sorts! They've both grown! It's amazing, and so so moving! She said I probably won't feel them properly for another four weeks because of the anterior placentas, which was reassuring!

Thanks for all your kind words about me overdoing it in London yesterday. I feel heaps better today, even though I slept badly. Just a bit of grouchiness in left hip.

Tramp not Idris but ? (shall I say it?!) and DH quite keen on a Welsh girl's name too. But we need two of each, argh! Scanning woman said she knew the sex! I was too busy looking at the fantastic arms and legs even to bother peeking!

Okay, so the name which I've always thought I'd like for a girl (which I prob won't go with because of the clash with niece) is Millicent. Very 1920s, but very cute for a girl as Milly. DH not keen, mainly because niece is Emily, so it would be very confusing for grandmother who already calls us us all ten different names before she gets the right one!

Emus sounds like your work aren't being that proactive and helpful! In which case all you can do is let those deadlines slip by and hope you will get some assistance in making up for lost time. How bloody frustrating...

Sorry for those feeling pants today - take care and rest up! :-)

TheAngelshavetheOod · 04/10/2012 12:42

I like Millicent but Milly is quite common.

We've had a v unusual name since dd3 was born ( found it on an old marriage cert (dh ggg- grandmother) but a recent character on a soap was called it so worried it will get popular now! We have a couple of back up girls names. Still only one boys name and am not 100% on that. Dd2/3 weren't named until they were born ( as in we only chose the name then) though so I'm not worried.

theTramp · 04/10/2012 12:47

Manda - you tell me yours and I'll tell you mine. Indeed, face book discussion if ever there was one. Milly is nice though.

Ladies with days off I'm most envious. Not sure what it's like for you but it's a gorgeous autumn day here.

Stormy - we bought a book with 10,000 names and liked about 10 of them! Thor is on our list too although I'm equally unlikely to use it. I did suggest a few fave authors as names, all vetoed bar one which he's coming round too (result!).

Sheldonella · 04/10/2012 13:17

Ooh glad you saw the babies manda, how lovely. Nice they were up to different things too, personalities coming through already? Mine had the cord wrapped around her legs and kept putting her hand over her face, so adorable! Millicent is a nice name.
Thanks for the messages Gummi, zoey and tramp. I'm feeling very positive and very lucky today as DD kicks me in the sides! DH and I are going for a meal tonight to mark the occasion.
Sorry you are feeling rubbish Three, I hope the rest is helping.
Ooh names, my favourite subject. I quite like the name Thor! I came across a few in Iceland but never any here. I think we are pretty much decided for DD (as long as it suits her) but I'm sure my hormones which make me change my mind later (poor DH). We are probably going to give her two middle names as a sort of family tradition as I have two and so does MIL. One of them will be a welsh name as I love them and we spend time in Wales with DH's family every year. The rule we have is no names already used in the family and nothing too popular - I was one of 4 at school and my middle names are the most common names of the time.
Right, must do some work...

Lexiindisguise · 04/10/2012 13:20

LOL to stormy and 'stupidly named guitarists' - that would be one for my DH - no baby Yngwies here please!
We have several girls' names we both like, but no boys' names we agree on. The only one we both like - Felix - is also the name of a close friend and we'd agreed to steer clear of names of friends and family. So it may be easier for us to have a pink one!
sheldon big hugs. So glad you've had good news today. And also hugs for those still feeling sicky.

I've managed to chase down my blood results and all are fine. Guess I should book in the next midwife appointment! Very, very sleepy today and struggling to stay awake; would like to be at home really.
chefette I feel your pain re: timescales: due to building control and structural engineers, we've not even got a start date for the loft conversion yet. It's looking like we will be in chaos over Christmas and if there are any more delays it will be being done around LO's arrival! It's really, really stressing me out :(

Lexiindisguise · 04/10/2012 13:21

Oh and manda so exciting about the babies! :)

GummiberryJuice · 04/10/2012 13:35

Stormy and Tramp Going through the namebook I said to dh what about Nimrod (as a joke) now I'm doubting my abilities to read my husband when he tells me its on the list lol

Ood, that happened to dd1 everyone in the hospital said oh haven't heard that name in a long time (named after dh's grandmother), then about 6 months later Kerry Katona called her first baby the same name and there are loads of them now, all seem to be younger than dd1 but I was still abit miffed!

Ds has a very popular name as we were really stuck on something to agree on.

I have weird rules too which dosen't help matters, I don't want my children to have the same first intial

Mandasand, Millicent is lovely but a big Disney movie is coming out next year called Millicent, what about Matilda then you could have Tilly if you wanted to shorten.

GummiberryJuice · 04/10/2012 13:38

Actually Maleficent is the movie but I mean't to say Millicent reminds me of Maleficent, Oh dear God after 4dc will I have any brain power left!

JoJoBella84 · 04/10/2012 13:38

Finally no more injections!!! Happy JoJo :)

Ooooh names! My current favourite subject!!
I'm quite happy sharing my faves as we're not making a decision until bambi arrives.
For boys: Jack, Jacob or Samuel
For girls: Evelyn (Evie), Caitlin, Isabelle, Emily or Anna.

The boys lead fave is Jack at the moment, but no solid favourite for girls yet!!! I like Evelyn a lot but trying to get OH to agree "but she'll get called 'Evil-Lynn'" no she bloody won't!!
For now the OH is calling baby Ginny, only because my stitches are currently resembling a Cornish pasty and I put my foot down at Ginster's!!

JoJoBella84 · 04/10/2012 13:39

Millicent is very pretty :)

GummiberryJuice · 04/10/2012 13:42

Jojo 2 of your boys names are at the top of my list, the other is my Godson's name and was my choice for ds
And YEY for no more injections!

zoeymlucas · 04/10/2012 14:11

Loving the name Caitlin Jojo I always liked Alexis but DH said it would be shortened to Lexi which is fine but then would be Sexy Lexi which he wouldnt allow, lol! Congrats on the no more injections :)

Dh is very close to being banned from helping with babies names as I love Mason and he hates it but he loves Travis and Tristan - Ummm no!! Someone at worked was researching names for me and come up with Taylor and was so pleased with herself - until I explained that was my eldest sons name, lol!!

I couldnt sleep last night and was just laid thinking on and off and DH rubs my belly in his sleep which I found amazingly cute of him :)

mandasand · 04/10/2012 14:12

Gummi Matilda is currently my top have girls name!!! It's the one I've been harbouring for a bit and the one I said to DH last night, but I didn't get the initial YES! that I got when I suggested Dylan for a boy! He's put it on the definitely maybe list tho!

So (I've given up being secretive!) Dylan is currently no.1 for a boy.
Shortlist includes Ethan (but I can't get over the weirdness that I used to really fancy Ethan Hawke!!) and Joshua which was DH's first choice - I like it but I am not keen not the biblical connection.

Other girls' names we like a lot are Bella, Florence (apart from PM Cameron connection), Gwen, and Bethan. A real favourite of mine is Betsy but DH not (yet) convinced enough to shortlist. I think he'd be fine with Elizabeth shortened to Betsy, but I don't really want any royal connection!

For those on the FB group, these names will go with my married surname beginning S not my maiden/professional name beginning W. Because I go by W every day and publish under that name I still find it really, really difficult to remember I'm S!!! I wasn't sure at all about taking his surname at first, but it's a bit of a hangover from my mum's first marriage, from which there are not many happy memories, so I decided it's really nice to start afresh. Just wish I could remember it more! Changed it on NHS and driving licence but still got to do passport and bank stuff, then various payrolls and then I will HAVE to remember!

I'm glad so many of you like Millicent Smile even if DH not convinced! And big thanks to gummi for mentioning about the movie - I had no idea! Phew, that was a close one!

JoJo I really like Evelyn and Caitlin!

Can anyone recommend a really good book with really thorough+detailed etymology etc?

Sheldon, so glad your LO is kicking and generally making presence felt! And how lovely to mark the day by going for a meal with DH tonight. Thanks

mandasand · 04/10/2012 14:13

zoey how cute of your DH!!!

pinkpeony4 · 04/10/2012 14:14

Manda your scan this morning sounded fab. Twins always amaze me so I can't imagine what it is like carrying them! Your skater dress sounds fab, if the one I ordered is Ok I think I will get one of yours too. Millicent is very sweet but Milly/Millie is very popular around here. That may not bother you though because some people don't mind popular names.

JoJo Yippee for no more injections!

We have a boys name, yippee! Just need to finalise middle names. It's tricky because the other 3 have two middle names each which are family names. We have therefore used up the 6 best family names! I have one for this next boy and think we may just go with a name we love for the second middle name, especially as this will be our last baby. I like names that aren't that common although the name we called ds1 was unusual at the time and is gaining popularity rapidly! I think it gets harder the more Children you know because you associate names with a certain child.

Lexi I love the name Felix, it was on my list for ds3.

Zoey I hope you are feeling better. Sundae you too, poor you still being sick Sad

pinkpeony4 · 04/10/2012 14:17

Manda I LOVE Betsy, it would be my choice if we ever never had a girl! There is one in ds1's class at school. It's a gorgeous name!

Lexiindisguise · 04/10/2012 14:17

Love Matilda :) I also love the Roald Dahl book! Really wanted that name for a girl ourselves but friend pointed out that 'Tilly Turner' is a bit twee. Think it's great as you can shorten to Mattie, Tilda or Tilly so when LO is older they have a lot of choice. One of the reasons I like my name (Alexandra) - I get Alex, Al, Allie, Sandra, or Lexi - but I have never had 'sexy lexi' LOL!
