Moltex Eco disposables are good. I didn't get on with the Nature ones, they just leaked all the time I have to admit to using pampers though

Tramp I went to B&Q this afternoon and came to that conclusion. The woman was really helpful and said with a good sealant the wood is great. Think I might go for an Oak one which should look good with the painted cupboards. It's half the price of the Corian so definitely more sensible!

Em2010 · 03/10/2012 19:35

Just a quick post for tramp on Eco reusables- ds wears these at nursery as ood says they are fine but pricier. We've tried the beaming baby nappies that he has at nursery at home and they are lovely and about the same price as Pampers so don't feel you have to discount them entirely!

mandasand · 03/10/2012 19:49

O my word, what a day. Left the house at 7.30ish to get into London for a series of meetings. Series of meetings has just finished and I am on the coach home, an almost broken woman! Should have been at least two hours earlier but my lunchtime meeting didn't happen and got rescheduled. Sigh. I did get to do in the BAFTA bar though, which was fun. Lots of actor types being actory.

I'm so ridiculously knackered I could cry! Anyway, I'm going to catch up with you lovely lot instead.

welcome myjob! I'm just one day ahead of you!

ted glad you're feeling better!

Pink I am LOVING skater dress from Asos!!! I have worn it about three times since it arrived and it's terrific. Material not the most quality, but not that you'd notice. The tan coloured belt was not to my taste so I wear a sort of metallic one with it. As it's navy with white spots I either team it up with brown tights, knee-high boots and cardi or chunky red necklace and different cardi etc. Really good value for £25 and it is soooo going to grow with me! It's not as high-necked as in the photo so I'd be really interested to hear whether your floral one matches up with the photo online. Thinking of investing in another!

Gummi yay I was doing the baby-feeling thing right! Brilliant!

Yippee for heartbeats, lexi, possom, lanny and chipbutty!

Zoey your boss is sooo in denial! Are you feeling any better?

Poor three and your lost posts!!! glad you made it in the end! Interesting that you're a lot more naturally suited to new role ? hope you can keep it!

Tramp love the sound of your long bath ? might have one myself when i get home!

Flowery hope the windiness is better ? which leads me on to ? JoJo (hehe!), well done on self-injecting!

Tea I have moments like that!!! But it's allowed because, as lanny said, we are making human beings. DHs and DPs have to go the extra mile ;-)

Hope you got mac back Emus?

Oh Tiddley, Flowery and other kind souls who ask about The Book. Aaargh! Had a bit of a nervous wreck moment about it last night. I just need one day to finish a bit now. But today was all London, tomorrow is writing a talk I'm giving at a conference on Friday, at some point I've got to prep my teaching for an OU tutorial I'm giving on Saturday (and bake a cake) and so it will have to be Sunday. I get really nervous as every day passes, but DH gave me a good talking to last night and said it has to go on Monday or else! It's just a bit crap how it's running into everything else I have to do this month. Bah. Grump. etc.

As for sex, Tiddley, DH would like it to be a surprise and so that's what we're doing! Unless it's obvious from the scan in which case we'll know, hehe! Hope you're enjoying seeing your baby boy turn into a little toddler - what fun! He'll be causing chaos before you know it! :-)

Cervix scan at 0940 tomorrow morning. Hoping to goodness the babies are still going strong. And I really want to see them do wriggling or something energetic too! For those with experience of cervix scans, are they likely to show me the babies too or will I have to beg?!

Em2010 · 03/10/2012 20:45

Hello everyone, just waiting for my dinner to cook. DH is out 'networking' (aka drinking) so I have some peace and quiet and have the laptop out AND trashy tv! Just as well really as i'm in a very grumpy mood and think I might be coming down with a cold.

Manda sounds like a hectic day! Sorry you are feeling so tired. Hope you can get home and have a nice warm bath and hot choccy! Good luck for cervix scan tomorrow. I will PM you my RL name so you can find me on facebook (in due course - sounds like you have rather a lot on your plate right now!)

Myjob hope you managed to get DD into bed!

Stormy we had a wrap sling with ds and it was lovely. Because it wraps around the body is distributes the baby?s weight really well and puts less pressure on the back and shoulders.

Three hope you enjoyed your coffee. Sounded like bliss!

Lexi so glad to hear you heard baby?s heartbeat! So lovely...

Ted we also have the baby names issue. We have no names. For either gender. I don?t think we?ll ever agree. In fact we still don?t agree on DS?s name. DH refuses to use the shortened version that I and everyone else uses because he claims he didn?t realise that when we called DS the formal version people would use the shortened version!

Herminone yay for wriggly bean!

Hello to everyone else, sorry if I have forgotten to mention you!

Em2010 · 03/10/2012 21:01

gah! Silly MN won't let me send a PM to Manda is there anyone else who could add me to the FB group?!

ThreeForTea · 03/10/2012 21:10

i'll add you Em PM me

JoJoBella84 · 03/10/2012 21:12

I can probably add you em

ThreeForTea · 03/10/2012 22:02

With the nappies I don't know if we'd survive using re-usables - with dh quite a lot of the time the nappies don't even make it into the bin, I just find them lying around where he's changed her! Shock Just the wet ones mind or I might have left him by now. Lucky he has a lot of other attributes to make up for his shortcomings in this department!

Manda I think you sound as if you're doing amazingly, I can't even imagine functioning on the level that you have been, and thats with only one baby to make! Hope the next few days go swimmingly. Hope scan is ok too, every scan i've ever had they've let me see what's going on in the screen as well btw, inside and outside ones!

So after my lovely relax this morning and time at playgroup I came home and slumped into my usual Wednesday rundown-ness unfortunatly! I don't know what it is about midweek but I seem to always develop sore throat/sniffles kind of thing. Managed to have a nap when dh came home from work and dosed up with paracetamol now though so will be off to bed in a minute. Lovely 6.30 start again tomorrow. Gets so much harder when its dark doesn't it?

mandasand · 03/10/2012 22:08

glad you got FB sorted, Em!

oh good lord, I got off warm London-Oxford coach, stood waiting for bus for five mins (can't bike with trolley bag), started shivvering uncontrollably, got next cab instead and it's taken me an hour under duvet to warm up and stop shivvering! methinks i overdid it in london today! poor DH had to get my tea then hot water bottle and hot choc, extra blankets etc...feel like an 80-yr-old granny not a wife!

hope everyone is having more relaxing evenings ;-)

theTramp · 03/10/2012 22:08

Hey all. Pinky - I think you will like wood, I have been surprised by how nice it is as I probably would have opted for marble or polished concrete if I had built my own kitchen (oh ok, hired folks to build it as per my spec :) )

Em - re eco disposable, that is interesting. Everyone I know who uses them appears to have babies with leaky nappies. The resuable look way easier to use than I thought they would be, and with the caveat of disposables for the first couple of weeks as I get my head around things I think that is the way to go. Particularly if nature does allow us to follow up project Socrates with a project Plato.

Manda - blimey you are having a busy week, and I thought mine was bad!

MrM and I were just discussing how weird it is that we're going to be parents! And that in the last year we have - bought a house together, moved in together, started a new business together (well it is my business but I couldn't have done it alone), changed our financial situation (back to my business again) and got onto rung one of starting a family. And yet next year is going to be the real change! Werid isn't it.

NAMES! Oh I am having so much fun with names. I set the spreadsheet up almost as soon as I'd had appointment confirming the pregnancy. One worksheet for boys, one for girls. Rules are:

  • Name cannot be in top 100 faves of 2010 or 2011
  • Name cannot be biblical and therefore catholic in anyway
  • Name must be pretty easy to spell
  • Name should work as is, rather than being one which will obviously be shortened - although in some cases we've allowed a waiver on basis of we like the shortened version more than the long version but think you would probably be named the longer version so child has choice when older

I would also like to add rule that name can't be from either side of family, but its looking like that won't work and middle names may reflect a dead parent.

MrM is tortured by this game. Tortured! I love it! I think there are about 3 names for each sex out of a shortlist of about 20 for each sex that we can agree on but neither of us agrees on front runners and I am sure that ultimately we'll opt for something quite random when we actually meet Socrates.

I should also add neither of us is mean enough to call a child Socrates, although Socs may stick as a nickname and I have a soft spot for the odd pirate name.. :)

Hope everyone is feeling bit better today than earllier in the week.

theTramp · 03/10/2012 22:09

Manda - you numpty. Get in nice hot shower first then get under duvet and make sure you wear bed socks. You'll be toasty in no time!

mandasand · 03/10/2012 22:11

Xposted three!

thank you for kind words in the face of my moaning! and really pleased about what you say about the scan - yippee! very cheering! :-D

boo to your sniffles. get a good night's sleep xx

Em2010 · 03/10/2012 22:18

Thank you to everyone for the welcome to FB group! I now have that open on my phone and MN on the laptop!

Em2010 · 03/10/2012 22:38

oh and tramp the Beaming Baby nappies really are lovely. DS has (touch wood) never had a leak in them and they are infused with chamomile....

Emus · 03/10/2012 22:48

Manda I've just got home from work after spending hours on the phone to US IT guy and still my mac is broken. It's had two new hard drives put in since yesterday but my files seem to be corrupt (which is seriously bad news as I can't afford to lose my files). I've got back ups but they are likely to be corrupt too. Am so fed up with it all and worried for baby too although I'm managing to stay calm even though I'm now two days behind with work and will miss another deadline tomorrow. Nothing I can do about it!

Good Luck with the scan tomorrow, hope you get to see your babies too!

I'm getting lots of people staring at my belly when they talk to me intend of my face. Making me feel a bit uncomfortable if I'm honest as I am still just fat at the moment! Someone said they think I'm having a girl today based on my shape, whereas someone else asked me if my face lost weight (which oddly it did for about three days) but is fuller again now and back to normal. Apparently this means I'm having a boy! Can't actually wait to find out!

Night all, off to bed as up early tomorrow and frankly am knackered.

Hope everyone is well.

mandasand · 03/10/2012 22:54

Tramp I am so a fan of bed socks!! they were on but now they are off as I am magnificently warm bordering on too hot with the socks and layers of nightwear and Chicago-tog quilt and hot water bottle and hotchoc!!

Ohhh the name game continueth! DH and I don't talk about it much but are just quietly mulling it over, me perhaps more actively than him. Every so often I'll say a name and get an instant response. We've pretty much settled on a (Welsh origin) boy's name that way. It slightly clashes/rhymes with the middle name (his DF's name who passed away last year) but not too badly, we think.

He's not thrilled with my all-time-favourite girl's name, and the short form clashes badly with our neice's name, so I've ditched it. But I've been thinking a lot about another name that I'm going to try out on him soon. In fact ... I'll try it out now ... (he's sat next to me trying to figure out what's wrong with his laptop ...) ... no, not a great response ... sigh. Back to the drawing board!

mandasand · 03/10/2012 23:00

Emus I really feel for you. I nearly lost my will to live the other day when my SD card with an afternoon's worth of archive photos corrupted itself ... and I don't think I could deal with a whole macsworth of lost work! I only moved over to macs with new job and at first thought they didn't get their knickers in a twist in the way PCs increasingly do as they age ... but I was so wrong! So I now dropbox all the time and have external HD connected constantly to do TimeMachine. Still I lose the odd few hours of work but it's more bearable.

Oh god you surely must be able to get some wizard in this country to uncorrupt your files? It's really difficult trying to do this kind of thing over the phone - can't your company arrange and pay for a UK-based fixer who will take it away and (hopefully!) make it all better? Too much stress for you to bear. Have you tried to open your back-ups on another machine?

Sleep well. Hope tmrw brings good news.

GummiberryJuice · 03/10/2012 23:05

Welcome myjob

Ted & Tramp I've been listing names but to be honest nothing is jumping out, I feel I need a couple as SIL & also best friend are both due in Feb.

Also other Sil is getting induced tomorrow so its exciting, she 10 days over and we are all convinced she's having a boy so watch this space

Sheildbug are you ok? Hope you're just busy
no mrsrigby?

Sorry not namechecking everyone, dd1 had her first injection today, few tears, dh will have to do them as medication too dangerous for unborn babies

theTramp · 03/10/2012 23:23

Oh you can't give up that easily if it is a name you love! Time, patience, repetition - wearing them down, bending them to your will. I have 5 months to make MrM feel like he loved my fave names all along - thats how I see it.

Welsh boys name - IDRIS! Oh go on, be Idris. Also the dragon from Ivor the Engine of course...

OP posts:
Emus · 04/10/2012 03:55

We haven't begun discussing named yet or even thinking about them (is that really bad?!) so we've got all this to come.

Manda I backed my work up to my own personal external drive (as I don't trust IT!) but most of the applications I need seem to be screwed. IT are confident they can fix but it's going to take time (which I don't have!).

I did ask if they could hire an expert in and got a flat out no. I also asked if they could hire a mac for me. Again that was met with a no because of security and data issues. Oh and I don't trust my Time Machine back ups now either since I've been backing up dodgy files over the last few days. Stress!

lannyshrops · 04/10/2012 06:52

Morning all!
Sorry to hear you weren't well yesterday manda hope you are well now? It is hard getting the head around the fact that you can't do what you used to be able t do, sometimes no where near, and if you try the result is illness of some such! I think I am learning but still get caught out!

emus comiserations to you, no helpfull advice I'm afraid I can just about manage saving to hard drive or flash disk, all this talk of external thingymes is just flummoxing me! IT is not my forte!

We have our names, but undoubtedly they will change when bean is here as they probably won't suit! My dad told me that I was unnamed for weeks as they couldn't decide! I was just called either baby or a succession of vetoed names! Lovely!!

Have a good day all xxx

Emus · 04/10/2012 07:41

I've just been sick :-(. Hope this isn't how my day is going to go today!

theTramp · 04/10/2012 08:03

Emu argh, or even bleurgh. Poor you. Can you go and lie back down for an hour?

OP posts:
sundaesundae · 04/10/2012 08:28

Oh Emus, me too. 16 weeks and still puking most days. These days it seems to be my gag reflex, so no nausea just sudden gagging and puking (amazing where you can find to puke! most amusing - in front of a racehorse, worst - in a drink cup in my car). So you have my every sympathy!!!

I feel very coldy, am in a horrid hotel in Swindon and have far too much to do. Luckily going home today, was supposed to be here till tomorrow night, but job was much shorter than first thought (whoop!).

I am going to give reusables a go, a relative bought a kit (I think) for her last but never used it.

Friend had a scan yesterday, she is 10 weeks but had been bleeding, bleed has been absorbed / bled out and baby thriving. Two more weeks and we are allowed to get properly excited. So nice to have someone 5/6 weeks behind me who lives down the road, we are going to look after each other and make sure we exercise every day once the babies are here. Are partners are best friends so we hope our babies are going to be close, realistically this will last till they can choose I think!!

Chefette · 04/10/2012 08:30

Hi all Grin busy busy busy and name checking on phone is a disaster.

House rennos taking a hit on timescale, as now have to find another decent joiner, plumber, sparky as the original joiner who was also managing work scope and arranging other trades has announced he can't do it as is the subject of a revenue investigation! Confused Angry

Whoever were having issues with work/managers: I imagine it'll bd the same here for me, but am NOT getting stressed about it, too much else on my plate!

IDRIS, is that the name of a ginger beer brand?! Am looking forward to all of our name dilemmas!

Glad to see jojo doing fine, and scans and other medical stuff going ok for others, sympathies to those who are feeling yukky.

Welcome newbie ex-lurkers, could there be more?! Reveal yourselves!

Sorry cant remember more, I've been trying to keep up once a day or do but am failing miserably. Sad

Have good days all x
