Welcome myjob!
And Tea I'm afraid I chuckled at the puff story, the kind of thing I would make my DH do so I think totally justified! Wink
Another one here with a bump now - people have started to comment as it seems to have appeared almost over night. I prefer it as I feel less barrel-like & more pregnant, IYKWIM
Sheldon don't blame you for being upset re:comments, very unkind a such a weird thing to say!
Am tucked up in bed with the cats taking my grumpy self away for an early night. MW appt tomorrow - meeting the 'assigned' community MW for the first time. Must remember to go early to obtain wee pot! Wink

I'm back Blush but this feels distinctly like a weird form of dejavu now!

Really nice to hear about heartbeats :) I really love hearing the baby, can't wait till the home monitor picks up the heartbeat so I can listen in every day :) (that's cheered me up)

lanny do they not tell you the sex at the nhs scan where you live?

Welcome myjobismum! I have scan on the 22nd oct as well. Really looking forward to it.

Tea I know the feeling with dh goes to the shop, maybe theres a sense of faliure attatched to men when they have to ask directions to something?? Also shel he has two sheds. I wish he would use either of them, either to sulk in or to prevent me from having bits of bike all around my kitchen!

Flowery i'm so sorry you still feel icky :( I guess having people ask all the time can probably get old can't it?

Jojo well done with the self injecting!

We had a team day at work today. Was a lovely venue and good coffee so can't ask for much more from an away day I guess :) We were looking at the Jungian/MyersBriggs personality testing. I don't know if you have seen them before but actually really interesting. I think mine probably shows that i'm not actually suited to my real role (that I was recruited to) but am actually a lot better suited to the role that they've given me since my pg illness and risk assessment, haha. Really have fx that they let me keep current role after mat leave as I now hate my actual role and probably wouldn't go back to it!

Am posting this now with bated breath and if it doesn't work may be away a while as I will have thrown my laptop against the wall!

ThreeForTea · 02/10/2012 21:31

myjob haha thats good because I would have felt strange calling you mum!

zoeymlucas · 02/10/2012 21:37

Well feeling better as doctor said I have sinusitis so don't feel so bad for moaning as am actually ill, I have antibiotics and a nose spray, so fx they work soon!

Have put myself to bed watching shrek with birthday cake from little brother, he gave me two massive slabs one for me and one for baby- I like his thinking :)

sheldon I seemed to of missed something about someone making a comment about ur scan not hard as these days it's lucky I manage getting dressed

Welcome back lanny , iPads are not as good as laptops it's just a giant phone to be honest, I use my iPad for shopping and browsing but still need laptop- DH only let's me have both as I won iPad in a raffle :) heartbeat like a train is meant to be boy but midwife was certain on heartbeat I was having a girl- its most def a boy!!!! I am only 16+5 and look about 29 weeks I have a proper belly it's actually a bit too much at this stage am hoping it will slow down / stop very soon Hmm

Evening All, just back from a (rare) night out with some mum friends. Lovely to get out and chat to other people! Feel like a whole new woman! Haven't had a chance to catch up from today's chat properly yet but welcome myjob. Sorry to hear about your sinusitis zoey I've had that and it's horrible. three interesting to hear about the Myers Briggs - I'm down to do that next month and looking forward to it!

Well, just curled up in bed watching Cherry Healey investigating breast feeding. Brings back awful memories! Gah! Won't think about feeding the next little one just yet.... xx

theTramp · 02/10/2012 22:56

Hello ladies, sorry if I don't name check you have been off Mumsnet for a couple of days due to manic workiness and just caught up with LOADS of posts so head is reeling a bit.

To those with work issues - there is no reason why you can't start looking at the job market whilst you are on maternity leave. It's a bit shitty, but if there are jobs closer to home and part time is on offer where present employer doesn't offer - well why not?

Shel - is it you or Lexi who is having the colleague issue? Sorry for being a bit brain dead. Anyway, let him hang himself and if you can help him along, just be subtle about it. I know hormones are a bit mad at the mo but never let the bastards make you cry. No work colleague is worth tears over - unless they are someone you really like and you have just heard they got run over. I sound a bit hard hearted here, but I really believe this. They are people you work with. Their behaviour can be unacceptable, but they should never be able to behave in such a way that it creates tears. I should also say or make you shout.. but I have to admit I lost my cool and did that last year. Seriously I remain utterly shamefaced about it despite fact that the man in question was such a twat that it was sort of inevitable - but that loss of control and fact that he saw he could get to me in that way is something I cannot forgive myself for.

I'm rambling - in short. SOD HIM! You are good at your job, you are valued, if he thinks you are the weak member of the herd he's a complete pratt. So let him stumble and fall.

To all the ladies who have seen and heard heartbeats - hurrah!

JoJo - love scar picture and well done on self injection. But take it easy my dear, walk first, run later.

Gender and toys - I've no issue with kids choosing their own toys and would be shocked if there wasn't a gender favouring of one over the other, however I do object to everyone else deciding for kids what they should play with. I particularly object to the fact that boys apparently get swords and adventure and girls get to be Mums and nurses. What a pile of shite. More Bodaceia outfits and playsets for girls please. More spidergirl costumes and Lara Croftiness.

I was so fed up when I got home that I had a lovely long bath. Face pack on, scalp mud massaged in. Stupid magazine to read. Music on shuffle that I could sing along to. Bliss. It has led to a rather late adn odd dinner of sweetcorn chowder soup and two potato waffles - but hey, I have been reintroducing salad and stirfry and managing not to feel like crap too. Although it was a bit touch and go this morning and I needed a vegetarian soy sausage roll to right my queasiness, but vegetarian sushi and endamame beans for lunch balances that out I think and last night was just stir fried veg and quorn. ...I'm getting there.

Manda - glad book is going well.

Kitchen worktops, well if you don't like wood my suggestion would be marble. Not cheap and you need to think about how you care for it. Other alternative concrete and then polish it. Which is cheap and looks fantastic - but you do have to set it right and use an expert or you get cracks.

Right, am away to bed. Night all.

Morning! Good luck with the midwife today lexi
So sorry to hear you are ill zoey I hope you feel better soon xxx thanks for the advice re I pad, I loved my net book but the scree size was sometimes restrictive and now its dying...
three they won't tell you gender in Shropshire, but will happily tell you of youbook a private scan with the same department with the same sonographer and pay 50 quid.....
Right, really must get up, will be late and I have a decapitated mouse to deal with thanks to the cat (although rather hoping dh has done it!)
Have a good day all xxx

HermioneBoo · 03/10/2012 07:16

Mornin! Yeuch, I've got to spend the next three days on my own covering a different campus and have no idea what I'm doing :( I don't like it on my own! Plus the computer there faces the rest of the (very quiet) office so no opportunity for MNing, on the plus side the staff there are nice and one even gave me a ball of wool for fixing her printer last time I was there so not all bad :)

I have no bump to show, I even did my work trousers (mens combats) up the other day and could do again if I wasn't clinging on to every bit of bump I could! I am feeling BabyBoo regularly though, in fact it gave me a boot yesterday that was quite sore!

Welcome newbies, I've been lurking for a while as been feeling nauseous in the evenings and staring at screens seems to make it worse so sorry that I'm not name checking.

StormyBrid · 03/10/2012 10:29

So many posts, forgive me not replying to all. Did someone say they're moulting at the moment? I was under the impression that hair's supposed to stop falling out during pregnancy. With regard to my own, all I can say is that if this is "not falling out" then when it goes back to normal (ie increased) levels of falling out, I will be utterly bald.

I went to see a friend with a four month old yesterday, and spent far too much time investigating reusable nappies and slings. The nappies I could take or leave, but the sling was brilliant - my friend had me wrapped up with a baby attached within five minutes of arriving, and I was amazed how comfortable and secure it was. Anyone else thinking about these?

ThreeForTea · 03/10/2012 10:51

Ah Em, if you like personality analysis things you'll probably love MyersBriggs.

Lanny that is really rubbish. What a silly policy, but I guess it must make quite a bit of money for them!

I'm having a cheeky coffee at the moment, am meant to be at playgroup with dd but there is now a gorgeous cafe in the same building that serves the nicest coffee in town, has a really tranquill atmostphere and lovely leather sofas. I left dd with one of the playgroup helpers. Blush So here I am with my latte taking advantage of the free wifi while dd is playing. You're not meant to do this at all with the playgroup, but as I set it up and got it going don't feel too bad about taking a little favour!

Wish you were all here, fancy Brew Brew Brew all round.

Sheldonella · 03/10/2012 10:54

Ooh Three I would love a proper coffee! I only have the rubbish work stuff. Sounds like a lovely little break to me :)

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 03/10/2012 13:27

three that sounds like bliss!

lanny I am definitely not moulting at the mo, my hair is actually looking quite reasonable. It was the same last time, but then post birth, Lordy lord, I could have knitted a jumper with the hair that came out. It wAs honestly coming out in handfuls. Niiiice.

theTramp · 03/10/2012 14:01

I was reusable nappy researching at the weekend. Basically you need to spend about £250 for the kit - and then if you have others you've saved cash. Still works out cheaper than disposable and has benefit of being quite eco friendly. Best advice was wait til you have baby home then buy one cotton and one bamboo and see which works better for your baby before you buy full kit. I can do that. MrM was just horrified by the cost and when I explained how much disposables cost even more horrified. I swear that man thinks babies are cheap as chips. Bless.

Myjob Welcome, lovely to have another newbie on this thread. Glad all is well & I am very jealous of your symptomless first trimester! I had horrible, horrible piles after my last two births, they were agony! Poor you having them now. Lots of anusol at every opportunity helped me!

Teaoperated hee hee at your jam puff crisis! They sound delicious so will look out for those not that I need to discover something else to make me even bigger!

Manda I meant to ask if your skater dress arrived from asos? What's it like? I just ordered a floral skater one from there to wear with leggings so hoping it will look nice.

Tramp thanks for the worktop suggestions. We are looking to get a temporary makeover done so don't want to spend a lot on worktops that will be ripped out in a few years. I do have my heart set on a Corian one which totally defeats the whole budget idea but can't face laminate...

Lanny how cool to hear the heartbeat! A fab shop for gender neutral clothes is polarnopyret.co.uk/ I can't bear pastels and dress my boys in bright colours, this website has gorgeous clothes in lovely colours.

Ethel I am craving fresh fruit juice this pregnancy, also salt & vinegar hula hoops and salads of any kind. Sadly I am also loving chocolate & cake far too much! I keep raiding the boys treat box for naughty things!

Zoey I hope you feel better soon.

Hope everyone else is Ok?

Lexiindisguise · 03/10/2012 14:40

Good afternoon everyone.
Met midwife who seems very nice, all OK with blood pressure but apparently I need to drink more water. Heard lBean's heartbeat going like a little train :) Unfortunately the blinking hospital seem to have lost my bloods again as no results on the system so we couldn't go through them, but she seemed pretty happy with everything else. Am hoping I don't need to go back for a fourth go at the blood tests Angry
I also asked her if I was big for my dates and she said I look pretty normal which is a relief after the comments I've had!

Three I love things like the Myers-Briggs, very insightful in a work context I reckon! Sounds like a good day!
Tramp interesting to hear the figures on reusables vs disposables. I still can't make up my mind which way to go; DH is not too keen on reusables so we may go down the 'eco disposable' route to try and ease my conscience!

StormyBrid · 03/10/2012 17:06

Lexi my friend who's using reusables sat down and did some sums and worked out it's saving them a pound a day, which definitely appeals. Unfortunately my man-creature (I can't say DP; it means something entirely different in an adult context!) seems to think it will involve us spending the next few years living in some sort of 1950s laundry dungeon, surrounded by boiling vats of water filled with stinking squares of terry towelling. Possibly it may be time to introduce him to the concept of a washing machine.

tedmundo · 03/10/2012 17:11

Evening all! Just marking my place again as I keep losing this thread!

Things here are just ticking along. I am feeling so much better now. I only retch about every other day and have not had a full on vom session for about a week. All good!

My 20wk scan is on the 24th and I am a bit stressed about it. Will be glad to get it over with.

We are not agreeing on names at the moment. We have very rare names (not made up or odd spellings!! Just ones not used very often anymore) for the boys and I want the new baby to have a name in keeping with theirs. It is NOT an easy thing! It has been agreed to not discuss this topic for a while :)

theTramp · 03/10/2012 17:36

The reusables are nothing likethe old Terry towelling jobs. It's an insert in a nappy shape with a tissue layer. Tissue goes in loo, insert goes in bin ready for washing and nappy shape is wipe clean if wipings needed.

I hear Eco disposable are pretty rubbish so I'm not even bothering to look at those.

OP posts:
HermioneBoo · 03/10/2012 17:50

Ted hello scan buddy :) why are you anxious about it?

I had something exciting happen today, BabyBoo was doing its usual thing of a tiny wriggle very so often at about lunch today when the fire alarm went off at work. The alarm in the fire exit stairwell was really loud and I could feel BabyBoo loads! Obviously didn't like the fire alarm much but so exciting to feel very definite movements!

theTramp · 03/10/2012 17:54

Pinky - if it's temp go with wood. If you use right varnish it's fine for looking after.

Eco disposables are fine just more expensive.
tribble is the person to ask on reuseables.

Hi all.

Stormy I'm looking at moby wraps at the moment and I'll be using cloth nappies probably once we start weaning although I may give the newborn ones a go again! I found Motherease wraps great last time.

Been a busy day here too, Wednesdays are always a bit mad!
