SpookySparkle · 02/11/2012 08:30

yes my sickness is worse when Im hungry, so last night once I'd found something I could stomach (cheesy cobs with salt and vinegar chipsticks) I just kept eating, I felt a little whoozy before I went to bed but there was no sitting next to the loo feeling gross which made for a nice refreshing change.

My problem is the morning, because I guess my stomach is empty. Its actually encouraging myself to pluck up the courage to eat. I a biscuit which takes ages to eat, then after 30 mins I'll try some toast, then it's not until I get to work and maybe try some more biscuits or some crisps that I start feeling human again.

I've also been drinking a lot of peppermint tea which seems to help a bit.

I had a terrible terrible dream last night, where I went to the loo and I felt the need to put a pad on, and then as I was staring at the pad blood just started appearing Sad early pregnany sucks!!!!

Sams4lo · 02/11/2012 08:55

Can totally understand am feeling the same, ginger nuts have helped a littl but eating little and often is the best way forward touch wood! I started feeling better yesterday and started to panic, but then it came back with a bang last night :( so still feeling rough today :(

Off to the midwife today for my booking in appointment, I'm 9 weeks today, so hoping she will refer me to the consultant, so I can get started on aspirin etc for the preeclampsia and placental abruption :( fingers crossed they back my decision for an early section :)

SunnyL · 02/11/2012 10:07

Thanks for advice re. work and travel - it was me that was asking about malaria tablets.

Unfortunately my work requires lots of travel to quite dodgy developing countries (actually thats normally fortunate - I love travel to dodgy countries). I'm being a sneaky so and so at the moment and only putting myself forward for trips that are easy (workshops, meetings etc staying in decent hotels) but will need to tell them soon since I'm meant to be doing lots of fieldwork. Tramping around mangrove swamps in tinpot villages is probably not good for either of us.

Think I'll wait for my scan - its on the 5th Dec so not that long to wait.

I've been feeling perfectly normal this week which has had me a little concerned. Today I'm feeling really quite nauseous which strangely I'm finding quite comforting.

Lyftiduft · 02/11/2012 10:51

sunny your work sounds exciting- quite jealous, though not at the moment!

My nausea is horrible, basically all day, though I haven't really been sick. The worst thing is I have to force myself to drink anything. I usually drink a lot of water but it tastes revolting to me at the moment- our tap water tastes of chlorine anyway, and I've tried so many bottled waters- and tea, but I've gone off that. Have tried various squash flavours, milk, flavoured milk, lemonade (bleurgh), fruit juice... Also tried ice lollies but I haven't found any that don't taste really synthetic. Any other ideas/recommendations please?

Now wearing my smaller maternity skirts/jeans on their tightest fastenings, so bloated and tightish waist bands make me feel sicker...

That dream sounds horrible spooky. I dreamt about twins, really hope that's not true either Shock

PseudoBadger · 02/11/2012 12:14

Have you tried RWhites lemonade lollies?

SunnyL · 02/11/2012 12:19

@Lyftiduft I remember my sister investing in Britas filters when she was pregnant cos she couldn't stand the taste of water. We live in Scotland which has about the best tasting water going and yet it made her gag.

PseudoBadger · 02/11/2012 12:34

I use Brita filters too, work for me. I've just had my scan date through - 10th December :)

grainmum · 02/11/2012 13:53

How about water with a slice of orange/lime/lemon in it? Nothing synthetic in sight!

princesschick · 02/11/2012 14:33

Lyftiduft I'm loving very weak squash at the moment. My current fave is Belvoir's organic lemon cordial - just organic lemon juice, sugar and water. Rocks do some lovely organic squashes too. I'm a big fan of their orange squash - again nothing nasty (well, apart from the sugar, but it depends how strict you are!) I also like Luscombe Farm organic lemonade and Fentiman's drinks too. I limit myself though, as I try not to have any refined sugars in my diet - so weak squash and the odd lemonade is a real treat :) Another thought, have you tried fizzy water instead of still?

Also, someone off travelling soon.. can't remember who... Deet isn't supposed to be very good for pregnant ladies as it can effect the baby. The NHS doesn't recommend anything higher than 50% Deet, but others have said that any Deet is bad news. I guess, it's one of those things that just has to be weighed up.

My first day of not puking for many days now :) But still have that heavy nausea hanging around. Bleurgh!

Waves to everyone else and sympathy for the one's feeling rubbish among us. I can't believe I'm 8 + 5 today (I never thought I'd get this far). 9 weeks on Sunday seems like a huge milestone to me :)

Lyftiduft · 02/11/2012 15:02

good ideas, thank you. I don't mind the sugar, it's all about taste at the moment, and I know I need more fluids. Heading out to Sainsbury's or Waitrose later so will investigate those some of those options :)

flutterby123 · 02/11/2012 19:11

How are we all today? Guess what, I was sick today. Properly sick for the first time. Actually feel a lot better for it (sorry, I know that's disgusting!) and haven't felt THAT bad since then (this morning). Ginger nuts are very good though, and I had potato waffles and spaghetti hoops for tea, which has also helped (very bland and inoffensive, albeit nutritionally lacking). I also heard someone speaking today about their sister who is pregnant (16 weeks I think) and she didn't get her letter for her scan until 11 weeks, and that was her first contact with the midwife, so that made me feel lots better. And the sale of my flat went through so everything is pretty good.
I see someone suggesting lemonade lollies, now that sounds like a good idea (again, very inoffensive flavours) Must dispatch DH to Tescos immediately ...

SpookySparkle · 02/11/2012 19:22

flutterby I always feel heaps better after I've actually been sick!!

dreamydays · 02/11/2012 19:28

lyftiduft I've found blood orange juice helpful. DH bought some by accident instead of normal orange juice. I thought I wouldn't be able to stomach it but in fact it's great, I think because it's not too sweet.

I seem to be going off herbal tea, which is awful as I usually drink it by the gallon and don't know what to drink instead. Let us know if you find something that works!

webminx · 02/11/2012 21:20

Hi! hope everyone is doing well. I had had cramps/pains for a few weeks so self-referred myself to local EPU today. They were great - really understanding and helpful and sympathetic about the MMC in June. Was really worried I'd be made to feel like a neurotic idiot or a complete nuisance but was quite the opposite. They were able to do a scan too, so able to see the teeny tiny baby with a flickering heartbeat - right size and shape, in the right place and alive! Was so relieved I burst into tears. So, anyone else had a previous bad experience or worried about symptoms, do feel like you can give your GP or EPU a call - you may find it really helpful! 6 weeks yesterday, keeping fingers & toes crossed for the next 34...

Sams4lo · 03/11/2012 06:37

So I had my booking in appointment yesterday (i was 9wks) midwife was fab and now I'm seeing her 3wkly, and her goal is to get me to 28wks! And I've got consultant appointments on top, scans, dopplers, bloods etc and probably an admission after 28wks. She was so nice and said her goal is to me get me as far as possible as safely as possible :) she's rushing through emergency consultant appointment so hope I won't have to wait too long to see them :)

Hope everyone else is well :) x

3littlewomen · 03/11/2012 08:45

Hi ladies. I am due a dating scan on the 19th, so envious of all you ladies who have already seen their little babies. Can't wait to see my little blob, and I hope all goes well.

Symptoms are coming on fast..... Nausea, swollen left foot Confused and really weirdly I brought kids to 3DMadagascar last night and felt so sick at the effects. Closed my eyes through most of the film... Though the kids assure me it was great. It was almost as though my brain couldn't process the 3D properly and I was almost heaving at some of the scenes!

The youngest is talking a lot about babies at the moment, probably triggered by me watching the birth channel! Unfortunately I think she will be disappointed that she will neither be at the birth or allowed to perform the c-section (though she did promise she would let the doctor help). She does not know I am pregnant yet..... But is just full of questions at the moment - such as, what happens if you chew the baby as you swallow it down to your tummy (cos apparently that's how they get there!). I think she will be so excited when we tell her - but I will be a bit sad she is no longer my youngest baby!

shockedminder · 03/11/2012 09:23

Morning all. Have been lurking on and off but not posting much as I have a history of forgetting to name change and I need to not out myself for at least another week!

So sorry about James and Skinny, thinking of you x

Sounds like some of you have been really sick so I'm grateful mine has just been nausea! I've really struggled this half term with 6/7 children to look after, normally I'm absolutely fine and we love our day trips etc. but with feeling sick all the time, being off a lot of food and feeling absolutely shattered, I've found it a lot harder. Luckily I don't work Fridays and as dh wasn't working, we went into town with our 2 boys. Got fitted for new bras as my current bras haven't fitted right for a LONG time and have got worse with me increasing. Well I'm glad I went, I've been wearing 34B for years and turns out I'm more a 32F and was sized badly years ago! Wondering if that's why I get backache! LOL Anyway feel more comfortable now, until of course I need to go again later on in pg! Spent 45 mins queing for Cosmo (new restaurant in town I'd heard great things about) then we abandoned so felt like that was a waste as it made me feel rubbish being under the hot air heater! But at least I managed a 'normal' meal when we finally found somewhere else which is probably the first time in a week or 2.

I've got my scan on Friday and I'm quite nervous. Although this pregnancy was unplanned and a horrible shock at the time we found out, I'm now very excited and really want everything to be ok as I know dh won't want to try again for another if this doesn't work out. I think I'm 7+6 today which means I'll only be 8+5 when I have the scan but that's by my dates, I'd be exactly 12 weeks by midwife's dates so I'm even more keen to get the scan as I'm a planner and hate not knowing when I'm due! :) Unfortunately dh can't come as he starts a new job on Monday but one of my lovely mums (been looking after her 2 children for nearly 5 years) thinks she can come with me and if not, another ex mum (I did short term contract for her dd when she was pg) has offered so I'm hoping I won't be on my own :)

We've now told ds1(9) as it was getting a bit obvious that mummy wasn't quite right and has suddenly got a big belly! Haven't told ds2(4) yet though and am currently covering up by tummy when parents drop off and collect their children and when I'm on the school run. 2 of the mums do know but I've yet to tell the other 10 families - want to wait til I've had the scan on Friday and have a date.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend. I'm now going to have to burst into action and get me and my 4 year old ready as we were supposed to leave for Somerset (to visit my sis and kids) at 9am but I wanted to wait until I feel a bit more ready for the drive - not great in the mornings still!

Oh one more thing........once I know the situation and have told people, I would love to join the FB group :)

Bye for now x

DontmindifIdo · 03/11/2012 11:21

Hello all, I had my scan this morning, fabulous little baby in there, just the one with a nice strong heart beat! Seems a bit more real and I'm going to stop panicking! Also think it's time to start telling people now!

I hope everyone's feeling a little less vommy this weekend.

ExpatMamaToBe · 03/11/2012 14:33

dontmind Great news, so happy for you! Are you more or less 9 weeks? I've got my scan on Tue (exactly 8 weeks), very nervous, it's going to be my first one ever! x

DontmindifIdo · 03/11/2012 16:00

thanks expat - I'm 8+1 today. Good luck with your scan, it's so exciting! Makes it all very very real.

TheBakersWife · 03/11/2012 17:28

Lovely scan news ladies, I'm seeing my doctor for my booking in appointment on Thursday, (at which point I'll be 9.1) I'm hoping he'll do a quick scan then! We told my in-laws this week. I had thought they might not be very pleased as we have 2 dc's already, however they were delighted. But then I got really freaked out when they kept talking about the 'new baby' ha ha it still hasn't really sunk in! Enjoy a restful weekend x

dreamydays · 03/11/2012 19:43

Congrats dontmind! excellent news :)

3littlewomen DD (age 3.9) also asks about babies a lot, usually along the lines of how she'd like a baby brother and please could I ask Daddy (currently away) if we can get one. I asked this morning whether a baby sister would do, to which she said "oh yes! a baby brother AND a baby sister!". Now all being well I may have good news for her soon, but not THAT good...

3littlewomen · 03/11/2012 21:19

That is an optimistic request dreamy. Our youngest just doesn't want to be the youngest any more.... She spends her life demonstrating that not only can she keep up with her siblings... But she can beat them! She is asking lots of questions, as she is trying to suss this whole thing out, she usually climbs into bed beside me, cuddles up and asks....

Today not so sick, but very tired. In bed since 8pm!

Anothercerealnamechanger · 04/11/2012 22:38

Hey. Anyone remember me?

Last week I got some serious stomach pains, GP sent me to a&e and then they sent me for scans. It seems that I am in fact 9 weeks pregnant and baby is wriggling nicely, strong heartbeat and no indication of problems. No obvious cause for the bleed but the negative test (a boots own brand cheapy) was false.

I had been wondering why I was so bloody exhausted but put it down to changing shifts. Have to wait until 12 week scan to get a better duedate but still thinking 12/13 June.

pinkapples · 05/11/2012 06:30

That's good news then Grin congrats

Got my apt this morning with the midwife any clues what I shall be looking forward to ?
