Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Congrats namechanger

I'm desperately trying to convince myself I need to get ready for work!! I think pregnant women should get paid maternity from the minute the find out they are pregnant till the baby is 1, haha, obviously I know this is wildly unrealistic but still!!!

Is anyone else convinced they are showing already? I'm 7+2 and I'm pretty certain there's a bump there (this is my first so I assume its way to early) still to be 100% comfy at work I've had to invest in some maternity tights and a maternity skirt Blush maybe I'm just getting fat Blush

dreamydays · 05/11/2012 08:35

Congrats anothercereal that's brilliant news, does it seem like a miracle? Finding out now, at least you don't have so long to wait for the end of first trimester!

spooky I definitely have a bump. It appeared overnight at about 8+4. Now 9+5 and it's getting hard to hide! I have some time off this week and am going shopping for bigger trousers and loose tops.

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2012 09:07

Great news anothercereal - that's fantastic to hear, also due 13th June!

Spooky - yep, showing too, I've got 3 empire line dresses, I think I'm going to have to roate those for work for the next 4-5 weeks until I'm ready to announce! This is my second and I'm really clearly bumping out compared to last time. I can highly recommend you pick up a bump band - they are great for adding an extra bit where your clothes are gaping without having to put a whole extra long maternity t-shirt/vest underneath your clothes, then use a hairbobble hooked through a trouser button hole round the button to give you some extra room (the band should cover this), it should keep you going for a while longer!

Those bands are great for breastfeeding as well as they keep your tummy covered when you just want to wear a normal top and lift it up rather than an all singing all dancing feeding top.

SpookySparkle · 05/11/2012 09:28

Dont Thanks, I had to do the hair bobble through my jeans thing yesterday, but just wore a long top to cover it. I bought a bump band, but I think it has a little too much fabric at the moment, so just feels a little awkward to wear!! Speaking with my Mum she reckons she was showing by 7 weeks, with her first, she can even tell me what she was wearing when someone first noticed, and who that person was, I guess its not totally beyond the realms of possibility.

A new baby store has opened up by us, so we went down this weekend and checked out some buggies (after making sure no one we knew was there) obviously we wont be buying anything yet, but husband is so very tall we need to make sure we get one that he can push without hurting his back, I was honestly bowled over by the choice!!!

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2012 09:38

oh yes, buggies are a lot of fun to pick! This is quite a good "male" project, you can give a list of specifications like "must be rear facing" "must lie completely flat or have a carry cot attachment for new born" "must be light enough to lift and will fit in the boot of our car" etc and then set them to work like they're researching a new car. DH (and most men I know) found that an interesting one to think about as it was a "technical challenge" whereas thinking about colour schemes for the nursery is a bit too 'emotional' decision.

I was just feeling a little sad for this baby, it's going to just have hand-me-downs, clothes, buggy, cot, changing station, bouncy chair, toys etc. And while we're going to move DS out of the nursery into a new bedroom (logical as the nursery is next to our bedroom and smaller), again he's going to get new stuff now with the baby only getting a new mattress for the cot. I think I'm going to have to make the effort to buy a few things for the baby so it's not all second hand, although then I think I need to slap myself as quite frankly, so long as the baby is warm, clean, fed and cuddled, they don't care about anything else...

SpookySparkle · 05/11/2012 09:54

Dontmind is lie flat important? sorry first baby and really didnt pay attention when my sister was going through it!!

I wouldnt worry about getting the baby new stuff, baby will get new stuff from everyone else!!!

Anothercerealnamechanger · 05/11/2012 10:03

With my first I bloated out until about 12/13 weeks but then it vanished and in fact at the 20 week scan I was still the same size round my middle. I didn't have to move into maternity clothes until 36weeks but I was wearing dresses and yoga pants by then!

Talking if whichbhas anyone signed up for antenatal yoga? I did it the first time and it was brilliant, met my very best mum friends there!

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2012 10:03

Spooky - yes if you are planning on walking a lot - they should be able to be flat if you're goign to be more than 2 hours (which is really easy to do if you have a baby like DS who would sleep for 2 hours round lunchtime in his buggy, ah, those days when we could go for a relaxing Sunday pub lunch without running after a toddler like yesterday's disaster...). Advise is not to put them in the seated position until 6 months, although I put DS in the seat rather than the pram top of his buggy at around 5 months as he wanted to sit up and could sit unaided at that time. A lot if they say "suitable from newborn" check they do go completely flat, I've seen some that claim to go flat but the mum's with them can't get them to go flat.

Rear facing is supposed to be better for speech development as they can see you and you do just interact with them more if you can make eye contact. After my buggy was stuck in DH's car boot for a weekend when he was away when DS was around 7 month (still annoyed) I borrowed a forward facing buggy from a friend but really missed being able to 'chat' with DS as we walked along, it's lovely to be able to interact with him.

Being able to easily lift the buggy frame and being able to fit it in the car boot are rather self explaintary - I was advised when you do the trip that everyone does to John Lewis to try out all the buggies (even if you do buy it elsewhere Wink ) imagine you are pushing it one handed while holding a shopping basket, is it easy to manover? Imagine you are trying to fold it and get it in the boot of your car in Sainsburys carpark in the driving rain, just how soaked are you going to get and can you actually lift it without putting your back out?

Dillydollydaydream · 05/11/2012 10:34

Good news cereal :)

pinkapples I had my booking appt in thurs, it was mainly loads of form filling, Q&As about medical history, previous pregnancies, births, etc. blood tests, and lots of booklets/leaflets to read! All given in a not very subtle Bounty folder! I had to smuggle mine out under my coat, my Drs surgery shares a car park with a co op! Confused

I'm 10 weeks according to mw estimation, waiting for scan appt to come through. I haven't felt so nauseous the last couple of days so I'm a bit concerned but still tired and have sore boobs.

SpookySparkle · 05/11/2012 10:44

Thanks Dont so for example if say I was to get a quinny buzz? where the seat just sort of tips back? rather than flattening out? that's not suitable?

Anothercerealnamechanger · 05/11/2012 10:55

And yes, babies have te lie flat

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2012 11:02

I think you can get a carry cot attachment for the quinny buzz, it goes on the same frame - I don't think the seat by itself is suitable from newborn.

SecretSparkle · 05/11/2012 11:26

ok so what about people who use car seats with buggys?

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2012 11:50

if they keep their DC in the car seat for more than 2 hours they are risking knackering their baby's back, a lot of people will just use the buggy for a really short distance so it's fine, I tend to walk a lot and would be out all day with DS, I can see it being any different with the next one.

I never understand people doing this, i haven't seen anywhere selling the frame only without a seat unit or pram top, so they have the option to use something that's better for their baby's back but use the car seat for convinence.

dreamydays · 05/11/2012 11:50

We used the car seat on the buggy instead of carrycot so as to save a bit of money. It was totally fine, the only thing is that you're not supposed to keep them in the car seat for too long (a hassle if they've fallen asleep). In hindsight it was probably worth getting the carry cot attachment too - but not essential.

DontmindifIdo · 05/11/2012 11:50

(oh check me out in my big judgy pants!)

pinkapples · 05/11/2012 12:24

Thanks dilly yea apt went well bloods ouch! 3 tubes! And she gave me a pot to wee in with fmu and deliver back to the doctors... Grrrrreat!
Apart from that all normal just waiting for a 12 week scan to come through now although very excited for my scan on Monday Grin

Dillydollydaydream · 05/11/2012 12:29

I had a quinny buzz with ds2 but used a carry cot attachment. I was doing 3 x school/nursery runs a day so wanted him to be flat and comfy, also if he fell asleep in the school run I didn't have to worry about disturbing him and getting him out like I would have had to if I'd used a travel system with the car seat attached. I used to be out from 8.20-9am, 12.45-1.30 and 3-4.45pm so that's quite a while.
I'd like a new pram this time but there's nothing wrong with the buzz!

forgetmenots · 05/11/2012 13:26

Hi, can I join? Pointed here from pregnancy forum and I think I'm due 12th June :)

dreamydays · 05/11/2012 13:36

Not at all dontmind sorry about the x-post! :)

thedevilisinthedetail · 05/11/2012 13:37

I've had cramps all night so went to A&E this morning. One little baby, heart beating away and they thought 8+6 showed up on the scan! Very pleased. Diagnosed urinary infection. Puts my due date at 11th June, so about right with what I thought. Nice to see the little heart beat.

forgetmenots · 05/11/2012 13:39

Thedevil that is wonderful news. Think I'm due 11th or 12th, must have been such a relief to see your baby... I can't wait! not at all impatient

Dillydollydaydream · 05/11/2012 13:45

Ah devil, glad the scan showed everything was fine.

Hi forgetmenot :)

olimoss · 05/11/2012 14:50

I might be officially a bit nuts.

I've my booking in appt with the midwife tomorrow, so despite feeling awful, boobs having grown so much I'm now suffering dreaded four-boob and need some new bras, and looking haggy, I bought a pregnancy test and peed on it to make sure I'm actually up duff before embarrassing myself in front of the midwife.

It seemed entirely logical to me until the result was a big obvious positive. I'm off to self-medicate with a bag of crisps.

thedevilisinthedetail · 05/11/2012 15:13

Thank you!

Don't think you're going mad olimoss, sometimes just nice to check!
