CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 01/11/2012 15:24

I might join the Facebook group at a later date if that's ok?

Glad to hear people's appointments are going well. Love the glimpse into the future for new mums Grin.

ExpatMamaToBe · 01/11/2012 15:47

curiosity whenever you want Smile, the group is now up and running. suckstobe I sent you a PM back.

We're going to do the scan at 8 weeks, it's too tempting not to since it's already booked. Can't wait but scared in the same time, hoping everything's fine in there. Felt nauseous today for the first time but it lasted maybe 5 minutes.

SunnyL · 01/11/2012 15:51

I was wondering when people are thinking of telling their work?

I work for a very small company and I'm worried that if I don't tell them sooner rather than later it could cause us all huge issues with resourcing. I work in a very specialised area so getting maternity cover just isn't possible.

LadyFlumpalot · 01/11/2012 16:14

Please could someone pm me the link for the Facebook group?

DontmindifIdo · 01/11/2012 16:25

SunnyL - last time I told on the day after I had the 12 week scan and knew everything was ok, I intend to do the same this time round, it's early enough for them to arrange some cover, but any earlier you might announce and then have to tell them it's bad news.

Sarah2506 · 01/11/2012 17:51

Sunny- it's hard isn't it. I told my boss because I felt I needed to explain why I'm late, ill, leaving early etc. But I'm a civil servant and there are no real resource issues if I'm off for a year. My friend works for a small production company and she will leave it as late as poss as she knows she won't get good work if she's not there to see it through. Whilst illegal of course she knows it will happen. I am itching to tell. I want to know if a twelve week scan happens actually in my twelfth week, as in sometime between 11 and 11+6, or in my thirteenth week so sometime between 12 and 12+6??

ella0 · 01/11/2012 17:52

I told my manager early on. Although I have a desk job, I am sometimes expected to do heavy lifting, and I don't want to be put in that position now. If the worst happened they would have to know anyway. They're been really good, trying to make sure I don't get too stressed out now etc.

ella0 · 01/11/2012 18:00

Sarah, mine is at 11+1. I've read it can be between 11-13 weeks.

Dillydollydaydream · 01/11/2012 18:07

Hi had my MW booking appt today, she put me at 9+5 weeks with a due date of 1st June.
MW recommended I have a homebirth due to 2 previous quick deliveries one in A&E and one at home with paramedics!
Feels more real now, just need to wait for the 12 weeks scan appt to come through.
Could I also have the FB group details please?

I still haven't told anyone IRL yet- besides dh of course. Hope everyone's ok?

AlohaMama · 01/11/2012 18:41

SunnyL - agree it's hard to decide. Last time I had to tell my boss at about 8 weeks or so. Medical advice was not to lift/carry, and my job can involve both. Plus we were planning fieldwork and I had to explain why I wasn't going to be able to go out on a ship for weeks at a time. This time, will probably have to tell earlier again for the same reasons. Always think its a dead giveaway though when you end up taking time off for all these doctors appointments, whereas normally I wouldn't go to the doc from one year to the next! That and the sipping iced water, running off to the toilets in haste etc etc...

olimoss · 01/11/2012 18:49

I might also wait till after my scan to look at the Fb group of that's ok.....

Today I feel like a big ball of bloat. I seem now to be getting through the day ok as long as I eat fairly constantly, but not that interested in food at night - is that happening to anyone else? I've just undone the buttons on my trouser - bliss.....so undignified...

I work for myself as a consultant but very closely with another consultant with whom I tender/deliver work, and have told her as usually I'm pretty sunny and easy going and felt I needed to let her know why I'd turned into thunder-face!

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 01/11/2012 19:01

Just watching the movie Australia on film4. Didn't think I had been that hormonal, but I have been in floods since it started. Ice-cream from the tub is helping. Smile

flutterby123 · 01/11/2012 19:04

Hi, re. when to tell work, I've already told my line manager as I work with children so didn't want to get slap cheek (if it happens to be going around). But apart from that not told anyone, except DH. Will just wait until after scan, although as I'm now 10 weeks pregnant and have still not received a MW appointment, I feel like I may never get a scan. I just keep getting told 'we'll get to you', or 'yes, I can see your name on the system, someone will be in touch'.
On another note, I've had pains in my right hand side on the abdomen. They've been more pronounced when I've overdone things (like yesterday it was sore and I was incredibly tired, and in hindsight hadn't eaten enough, I have eaten more today and feel much better). Also, I've lost 5lbs since finding out I was pregnant. Now this is absolutely no way puts me at risk of being underweight (would need to lose a few stone for that to happen) it's still something I would like to ask someone about, but there's no one to ask, they're still to 'get to me'.
I actually got really upset by it yesterday, which again I know isn't good for me, I should be trying to chill out. On one hand I think, well at least the scan will be soon after the MW appointment, but on the other hand I think well what if this holds up the scan.
ARGH!!!! AND my flat was meant to sell today. but there was a hold up on the mortgage providers side and the money hasn't come through and won't be through til tomorrow. I have had my flat on the market for four and a half years, so it's pretty momentous that it's selling, but I just want it done! Goodness, I 've just read this back and I sound like a very impatient person - really, I'm not!

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 01/11/2012 19:19

flutterby how have you been feeling apart from the pains? It could be round ligament pains, but I'm not sure they stay to one side. It sounds like it is time to stamp your feet. If your pain continues, go with your instinct and contact your early pregnancy unit if necessary. They are really lovely about putting your mind at rest.

I don't think the weight loss should be a problem. How is your appetite?

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 01/11/2012 19:25

Oh, also meant to say that someone on my other antenatal thread phoned the hospital directly and was able to do a self referral. Might be worth considering.

scruffylady · 01/11/2012 20:04

Hi tried to PM you about the Facebook group. Can you PM me :)

flutterby123 · 01/11/2012 20:20

Hi, thanks Curiosity I have just googled round ligament pain (really try not to google things - Dr. Google has a habit of diagnosing life-threatning tropical diseases that I seem to be suffering from!) and it sounds just like what I have.
Yes, I have phoned the hospital directly, I have been speaking to them in the midwife unit. But I know that there have been 6 babies born this week (which is a lot for a small place like where I'm at) so that's maybe what's causing the hold up. I'm beginning to think that I've made the whole thing up and when I do get a scan there's going to be nothing there! (so long ago it was that I got my BFP - 5 weeks!)
My appetite is non-existent, mainly living on dry cream crackers. Anything with any flavour is completely off-putting. I am eating fruit and drinking milk though.
How's everyone else feeling?

AlohaMama · 01/11/2012 21:39

Bleeurgh. In a word! And dh is going away for 8 days in a week, leaving me to look after ds. As I can only assume sickness will be worse by that time, I am not looking forward to it. Who will bring me dry cheerios in bed in the morning and iced water to sip??! At 18 mo ds has not yet been trained in the art of waiting on mummy...

preggersbycheggers · 01/11/2012 22:50

I can't remember who it was that was travelling overseas and worried about taking malaria tablets?
Anyway, I'm airline crew and travel to lots of places where you would ordinarily take malaria tablets. However we don't. As long as you are in an air conditioned hotel and take the necessary precautions such as long sleeved tops and long trousers, deet on exposed areas then you should be fine. Must be a worry but the side effects of the tablets outweigh the risks of taking the above actions.

I'm 10 weeks now and still feeling pretty bleurgh! Still wanting copious amounts of bread/pasta etc and also ready salted hula hoops. Haven't gone off anything yet... Last pregnancy I went off stir fried food and fish and chips.

Hope everyone else is well and I'm very sorry to hear James and Skinnys news. I hope you are being kind to yourself.

Dillydollydaydream · 01/11/2012 23:01

Thanks for adding me to the FB group - hope I haven't jinxed myself now.
I did have a mini heart attack when I saw on my new feed that I was new to Due in June 2013! Then I realised the group was secret, phew! Haven't posted on there yet.

Squidge123 · 01/11/2012 23:16

Dilly, i had the same panic when i saw in my news feed too! Feeling really sick tonight and hoping am not gonna be like this everyday now, hope everyone else ok x

Dillydollydaydream · 01/11/2012 23:48

I tend to feel sicker around dinner time and evening. It's not nice but hopefully it won't be for much longer?

PseudoBadger · 02/11/2012 07:31

Puked this morning at 4am :( so I've already had two packs of hula hoops this morning. Can't face anything else.

Dillydollydaydream · 02/11/2012 08:08

Aww that's crap. It makes you feel so miserable doesn't it?
Hula hoops really help though don't they? I'm also liking ginger nuts at the moment too.

DontmindifIdo · 02/11/2012 08:15

dilly - I've found oddly, I feel sicker if I'm hungry, so I've been trying to have handfuls of nuts and dried fruit, it could be you are eating dinner too late so are getting too hungry and then sick. Could you aim to have a snack about an hour beforehand?

I've also decided i'm going to leave the FB group until I've had my scan, it just feels like I could tempt fate (stupid, I know!)

I've not felt sick yesterday or today so far, which now I'm panicking that means something bad's happened. thank god I've only got to get to tomorrow morning for my scan. (yes, I'm well aware I'm annoyingly whinging, but I'm doing it here rather than in public)
