Another worrier. Less sick the last few days but I'm 11 weeks tomorrow so that maybe why?
I have to wait until I'm over 14 weeks for my dating scan as I needed to rebook it, even longer to worry :(

SunnyL · 09/11/2012 19:19

Hi all, looking for some advice.

A friend is getting married in Italy next summer about 2 months after baby's is due. Are we crazy for even contemplating travelling with a tiny tot?

Sunbeam18 · 09/11/2012 19:39

Hi all
I'm 8 weeks tomorrow, and just booked an early private scan for next Wednesday. Excited and nervous!
Hope everyone is doing ok!

Sams4lo · 09/11/2012 20:14

Hi
Just thought I would say when dc4 was 2 months old we took him to lanzarote and then the following month went to America :) it was a tad stressful but feed on take off and landing and give calpol :) we are also considering another trip to America when dc5 is only a few months old, just hope I have more energy than I do at the moment lol :)

Had our private scan today as was anxious to know if dc5 was ok, and thankfully all is well and my dates are spot on phew :) I think it's starting to sink in with dh but I thought he may show some emotion and he said well I've seen scans before Confused must be my hormones making me so emotional I thought I was going to cry just through relief :)

Any how morning sickness still sucks and lasts all day :( hope everyone else is starting to feel a tad better :)

DontmindifIdo · 09/11/2012 21:28

SunnyL - if your baby is late you might only be 6 weeks, that's not a long time to turn round a passport at the height of the summer season (and you will have to get them registered before you can apply for a passport, we didn't get an appointment for DS's registration until he was 4 weeks), however at that age, (assume you are breast feeding so don't need to cart formula, bottles, sterriliser etc) they are very portable.

RueDeWakening · 09/11/2012 22:02

Sunny, I'd be concerned about passports - they can take ages to come through, and the baby will need its own. Although if you're lucky there'll be a photographer come round the wards while you're there with a little contraption that takes fab passport pics - we got DD's that way, she was 3 days old :o

I'm feeling OK mostly at the moment - permanently knackered but that's about it, I fell asleep on the sofa at about half 8 last night, went to bed when I woke up at 11pm and that was it till this morning :o Am 10 weeks today.

AlohaMama · 10/11/2012 04:01

Sunny other than the passports I'd say 6 week olds are pretty easy travelers. At least my ds would have been - slept lots, bf-ing established (great for soothing on plane and stopping their ears being sore on take off etc), don't need lots of entertainment for the journey. We're planning to take dc2 back to the UK (from Hawaii - about 24 hr journey) when they are ~6 weeks. The only thing I'd say is try to book last minute - there are a lot of unknowns, depending on if dc is early/late, how you recover, if you have a c-section etc.

Sympathising with fellow morning/day/night sickness sufferers. Sadly still only 7 weeks so a few more weeks of this to go. Particularly disliking the 1 am/3 am/ 4 am waking feeling sick...

SunnyL · 10/11/2012 08:52

Thanks all for advice re travel. Had completely forgotten the passport issue. I remember just being a biro'd name in my Dad's passport til I was 15. sigh.
We were vaguely thinking of driving to Italy and do some touring of Europe. Last time we did it we camped - not sure that would be quite as much fun with a little un.

ExpatMamaToBe · 10/11/2012 09:11

Hi SunnyL, we had a 6 week old guest from England at our Italian wedding, he came by car with his parents, they had a couple of night stops on the way and stayed here for a week - family and friends helped them out a lot and I must say that the baby behaved better than toddlers. AFAIK parents managed to sort the passport out very quickly. So good luck Smile

dreamydays · 10/11/2012 14:10

Congrats sams4lo on your scan! :)

dillydolly I am also nearing 11 weeks so maybe that's why the symptoms are tailing off? I still feel nauseous but nothing like a week or two ago. And my boobs aren't as sore (but still big). I am eating for Britain though, and took this week off work which has made my life much easier. Anyway let's hope it's just that we're coming through the ms stage. Sorry you're having to re-book your scan, how annoying. Mine's on 23rd, I'm counting down the days...

looneytune · 10/11/2012 15:33

pinkapples - good luck with your scan. I must admit that I'm also still nervous waiting until 7th Dec even though I saw the heartbeat yesterday but I've been told that although it does happen, it's a lot rarer once there has been a heartbeat.

Dillydollydaydream - I've been feeling a lot less sick too but I'm stil only just under 9 weeks. I'm being reassured by the exhaustion, crying about silly things (just had to walk out of the room so my boys didn't question me starting to cry at the end of Nanny McPhee!!! Blush). As for your scan, I'm surprised you're having to wait so long. I can't remember whether or not you're in the UK. Reason I ask is that I believe the latest date for the Nuchal screening is 13 weeks + 6 days.

SunnyL - like others have said, for me the main concern would be the passport although I believe you can pay and/or turn up at the passport office to get it done quicker.

Sunbeam18 - good luck for Wednesday.

Sams4lo - pleased all was well with the scan. Dh couldn't come with me so one of my mindee mums came with me (bless her) but my dh was pretty much the same when I showed him the pic. Guess at this early stage the pic doesn't really look like a baby to him but for me it's lovely!

Just a quick question, I have been googling but can't seem to get 100% answer on this. I've had a text from the mum of one of the children I look after to let me know they have have chicken pox. I'm just waiting for my mum to confirm but I'm pretty sure I had this as a child. I believe this means I'm safe but I just wondered if anyone out there knows for sure that the baby can't get it (pretty sure not - just being paranoid).

ChicaT · 10/11/2012 15:52

Does anyone know if surgeries are giving the whooping cough vaccine in the first trimester? I had it twice as a child and would rather not have it while pregnant or nursing, not to mention the little bean!

PseudoBadger · 10/11/2012 16:04

It's from 28 weeks I think.

looneytune · 10/11/2012 16:13

Yes everything I've read says 28 weeks too

dreamydays · 10/11/2012 16:49

looneytune I looked into chickenpox before as DD got it during my last pregnancy. Apparently it is possible, altho unusual, to get it twice so you might want to check with your GP or NHS Direct. If you did get it again the consequences could be severe. (Sorry I guess this isn't clearer than you've already found out!)

MrsBri · 10/11/2012 17:38

I think I may be ready to join this thread now, as I've just had a private scan at 7+6 showing a wriggly bean, 18.5mm long, with a 170 heart rate :-)

I'm due on or around 23rd June next year and am a tiny bit nervous as it's our first baby!

I've been lurking for a while and was going to wait until after the 12 week scan, which is on 11th December, but I've raised my confidence level to cautiously optimistic after the scan today.

Hi to everyone! :-)

MrsJLS85 · 10/11/2012 18:15

Hi everyone, and welcome MrsBri!

Sunny I travelled to America with DD when she was 6 weeks. There was no wait where we live to get her birth registered, then the passport only took like 5 days or something, so we didn't have any issues. The flight was fine, and bf-ing had been established so she was really easy. Would be slightly concerned though about long car rides with a newborn. You'll need lots of stops to get her changed/fed/etc and generally have a good stretch about.

Squidge123 · 10/11/2012 20:01

MrsBri · 10/11/2012 20:10

Hi Squidge!

Thank you. :-)

In contrast, this is the latest in the day I've still felt sick...I'm not sure baby enjoyed being squashed! :-/

I'm not sick too often, but the awful nausea is hideous.

Squidge123 · 10/11/2012 20:23

Mrsbri, I've been being sick about twice a day and was even sick at 9 last night and have been so nauseous all time, really struggled. But then woke up today and felt fine, not been sick and only very slight nausea has come on tonight, I'm 9 weeks tom x

DontmindifIdo · 10/11/2012 20:28

hello Mrs Bri! It's makes it all very real when you see a heart beat, does'nt it?!?

SunnyL - driving? They can only be in a car seat for 2 hours max at a stretch, it's going to be a lllooooonnnnngggg drive.

So my news - I told my parents today, they seemed rather underwhelmed at first, but then seemed to get more excited as the day went on... I think they are worried about getting "hurt" again if I have another miscarriage. My dad told me off for unloading the dishwasher because apparently he should do that and I should focus on "keeping my next grandchild growing". I think they are going to be hard work. I made it clear I didn't want my mum to tell anyone just yet, however I would give it approximately 24 hours for the whole of the family in the North West to know on the grounds that "they don't see you much".

looneytune · 11/11/2012 12:54

Thanks dreamydays, I'll call tomorrow and see what they say :)

JeffActually · 11/11/2012 14:29

Right then, just in case I was in any doubt that I was pregnant I have just bawled my eyes out at the John Lewis Christmas ad Blush

Welcome to all the newbies and congrats to everyone who has had scans over the past few days - it is the most amazing thing in the world seeing your baby for the first time (even if it isn't quite identifiable!)

When did you all start getting morning sickness, I am really doubting my dates as my first morning sickness arrived when I was literally just 3 weeks - is that really early or did anyone else get sick that early?

MrsBri · 11/11/2012 14:47

Maybe you have twins, Jeff?! Mine was almost bang on the 'usual' 6 weeks. I'm hoping it goes by week 12 too, as it's unlike any sickness I've ever had previously. :-/

And it does seem very real after seeing a heartbeat, yes...still a tiny bit scared though. I'm sure that's normal though.

4 weeks on Tuesday til my next scan. Exciting. Then I'll go home the following weekend to deliver Christmas presents / tell my parents the good news :-)
