Hi, anyone else out there who may be at the very earliest point of pg? I haven't taken a test yet but feeling nauseous and tired and thinking this is it

OP posts:

ExpatMamaToBe · 31/10/2012 17:48

sunbeam There's no such thing as seeing a midwife in Italy while you're pg. Your main contact is GP (public) / gyno (private) who refers you for scans and tests. This is what I've managed to figure out so far Confused

AlohaMama · 31/10/2012 18:29

Sarah yes to needing to eat all day. Not sure about curry right now, in fact even thinking of it makes me feel queasy. Mind you it is only 8.30 am where I am right now, so that could be why. I'm thinking more bread. In every variety - crumpets, toast, muffins, bagels, all would be great right now. Unfortunately am at work and have none of those things :(

DontmindifIdo · 31/10/2012 18:44

ooh god, I've got some sausages that need to be eaten tonight and now I want curry...

I'm also eating all the time. I've found just having mixed nuts and dried fruit on my desk helps, a handful now and hten keeps the sicky feelings at bay.

I'm also trying not to work my way through all the sweets we bought for trick or treaters.

dreamydays · 31/10/2012 19:04

So sorry skinny. like lyftiduft my dates and scan measurement last time were almost exactly the same and then I got a BFP again after just one period. Lots of luck.

expat over here in France it seems quite normal to have an 8 week as well as a 12 week scan. Similarly in Switzerland last time, I had a few scans early on. But in both countries they did see the 12 and 20 week scans as most important, as in the UK. If they're offering more in Italy, why not take them?

I think someone should invent a device that lets us self-scan every day in the frst trimester (without risk obviously). I'd pay a lot of money...

By the way how did you get on with the Facebook group?

I also just feel like eating all the time. I had a huge chicken mayo baguette for lunch, it was so good that I would have gone back for a second one had I not been scared of funny looks from the lady in the bakery!

Sarah2506 · 31/10/2012 19:22

I was actually thinking it might be a good idea to get Holland & Barrett to do a massive delivery of dried fruit to work and indeed to home so I graze on that all day!

On the scan front we are paying for an 8 week scan next week. I want it for my reassurance and as there doesn't appear to be anything wrong with me except for over anxiousness I didn't feel I could demand an NHS one. Has anyone else paid for one? Its a hundred quid which is a lot, but I'm totally willing to pay for peace of mind!

Sams4lo · 31/10/2012 19:29

Sarah - I'm totally with u sweet chilli sauce and sour cream are fab here, but ate too much earlier so felt sick again :( and I'm also stuck in friends world, but realised when my 4 yr old asked me to record the rest of the episode at bedtime cause she enjoyed it that something is slightly wrong! Lol xxx

ExpatMamaToBe · 31/10/2012 19:46

Just had another thought - we'll have to pay for an extra scan around 12 weeks anyway (as nuchal isn't standard here) so why not have this one at 8 weeks for free and then do 2 in 1 a month later. I haven't even thought of having a chance to see the baby so early but now - when it's all booked - it'd be hard to cancel.

dreamy Posted about FB group a while ago but haven't heard anything back. Still up for it if anybody else is interested Smile

Re eating, I finally eat like a normal person - breakfast, lunch, dinner. I've never felt hunger before, could go all day just on coffee. Put on one kilo in three weeks Shock

DontmindifIdo · 31/10/2012 20:02

Sarah - I've got a scan booked this weekend, which is 8 weeks. That's going to be £100 as well - but I had a miscarriage at 11 weeks last July and they said they thought the baby had stopped growing at around 6 weeks, so I need it for my peace of mind, I can't last another month.

ExpatMamaToBe · 31/10/2012 20:18

dontmind I'll be keeping fx this weekend. Curious to know what you'll be able to see. Please report back Smile

dreamydays · 31/10/2012 20:25

expat did you see this link?
baby2see.com/development/ultrasound_sonogram/first_trimester_scans.html#week6

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 31/10/2012 20:30

onemore you just have to laugh.

expat I had early scans in my last pregnancy and a scan at 6 +5 this pregnancy. You should be able to see a reasonable amount at eight weeks. At my six week scan I could see the sac, yolk, baby(though more just like a circle) and the black and white flashing of the heart beat. It's very exciting. To make your scan clearer avoid gassy food/drinks the day before and the day of the scan (it blurs the picture). Let us know how your one goes.

CuriosityColaKilledTheCat · 31/10/2012 20:32

A picture tells a thousand words dreamy. Much better than my ramblings Grin

ExpatMamaToBe · 31/10/2012 20:36

Thanks for the advice curosity, and dreamy, thanks for the link - amazing indeed. Unbelievable difference between 8 and 12 weeks!

scruffylady · 31/10/2012 22:51

Oh James and Skinny, I am so sorry and am thinking of you both

RueDeWakening · 31/10/2012 22:54

james and skinny I'm so sorry :( When I had a MMC between DD and DS I was PG with triplets after 1 cycle (not that I want to worry you, though!). So good luck whenever you're ready to get back on the rollercoaster.

expat just tried to PM you re FB group, but PMing appears to be broken. Will try again soon. And I agree with PPs, the difference between 8wk and 12wk scans is incredible. I had a scan at about 6 1/2 weeks this time, it just looked like a flickering blob. I've got one next week, at 9 1/2 weeks (ish) which I expect will be much clearer, then the actual NT scan at the end of November.

After I had millions of scans with the triplets (upwards of 30 at least but we lost count! Record was 5 in a single day.), we did research side effects, the only known one is that there's an increased likelihood of the baby being left-handed the more scans you have. Weird but true :o

PseudoBadger · 01/11/2012 08:24

DontmindifIdo · 01/11/2012 10:58

Well I just had my booking in appointment at the midwives, saw a nice woman who has just moved to working in our area. I managed not to faint when she took the bloods, so that's good. Apparently my blood pressure is very low so I need to drink a lot of fluids and it might be a problem. Because of the traumas I had having DS and the miscarriage in July, they've declared me high risk so I'll see a consultant at around the 20 week scan. I am debating trying to get them to agree to an ECS... Booked my next appointment, I turn 16 weeks at christmas week so I'm seeing them next 15 weeks.

I had no childcare for DS (using my favour from MIL to have him when I have the private scan on Saturday, thought it a bit cheeky to ask her to have him again today) - he was a nightmare! at least I gave a vision of the future to all the woman in the waiting room who are expecting their first Wink
