Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
emilyeggs · 16/09/2012 21:21

Thanks spotty, not majorly busy but have been out and about. Think I can feel deeper more dull like kicks and further down. Normally they are high near my ribs and to the surface so you could be right.

Secondsop · 16/09/2012 21:24

purple glad the tip was of help! I'll prob get a carseat from there too because thats one of the things you're meant to get new isn't it.

emily my baby sometimes has a less kicky day, and sometimes has a day when I'm sure I can feel his head pushing against my tummy so can't feel the kicks as they're presumably facing the other way. But if you're in any doubt at all contact your midwives who will check to make doubly sure everything is fine.

emilyeggs · 16/09/2012 21:32

Thanks seconds, I don't have a number for a midwife but I guess I can call anti natal clinic if little one doesn't liven up. Do you all have a midwife assigned to you? I've only seen a midwife twice (once at booking and at 16 weeks) 20 weeks was a scan so no midwife and 24 weeks saw a doctor

Secondsop · 16/09/2012 21:44

I don't have a midwife assigned. I've had a few appointments but with the obstetricians because I'm high-risk. The only time i've seen the same midwife multiple times is when I've made appointments to see the midwife who does a clinic at my surgery to get my blood pressure checked.

emilyeggs · 16/09/2012 21:47

I don't think any of us see the same midwife, would be nice thought, as it would be nice to see a the same one at the birth.

PurplePidjin · 16/09/2012 22:05

Imo, carseat and mattresses must be new (or carseat from exceptionally trust worthy source) everything else can be scrimped on - I've been looking at mei tai patterns all evening, and finally finished my fluffy bear car seat cover too :o

I've had the same team all through - main mw who is lovely, her boss when she was on compassionate leave plus to confirm the ectopic heartbeat, and a couple of students. Main mw will lead at the birth as long as she's on shift, although she strikes me as someone who might just show up anyway! Blush

emilyeggs · 17/09/2012 00:54

Look like its going to be a long night of no sleep..........again :(

EggsMichelle · 17/09/2012 01:55

I've had a named midwife, however she is on rotation so got a new named midwife, I like knowing who I will see and getting to know them.

Not slept yet, had the shit kicked out of me for the past few hours (you can see him moving under my skin). I've had a big bowl of cereal and hopping that will settle him down a bit, but I'm not particularly tired either, very odd!

Thanks for the Argos warning, the cot I've had my eye on is from there, I will have a browse of the website and fingers crossed I'll grab a bargain

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 17/09/2012 07:11

Morning everyone. Sorry to hear of ahit sleeping. I'm still having to put a fan on my feet which combats my restless legs. I'm 95% sure it's psychological but I still have to do it or I can't settle! and then leave it on all night or I can't re-settle

As for midwives I doubt I'll see the same one at all throughout this pregnancy I never did with the others and for this 1 my booking in was at the local hospital. Then 16 weeks was at the children's centre. I only have midwives at 28, 34, 38 and 41 weeks (obv assuming I get that far) so very few appointments. I get 1 doctors appointment at 36 weeks too I think.

FriendofDorothy · 17/09/2012 07:59

I slept badly last night and my back is really, really sore :(

emilyeggs · 17/09/2012 08:28

I ended up on the sofa and was still clock watching Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 17/09/2012 08:31

Sorry you all had a bad nights sleep. Dd came in at 5:10am then had a full on tantrum when I put her back to bed Then when we all got up dp acted like a grumpy teenager (as he always does in the morning) FGS grow up you're a grown man, you have to get up in the morning!!!!!! Angry

Friend have you tried a wheat bag or similar on your back?

PurplePidjin · 17/09/2012 08:34

I have had one acceptable night's sleep all pregnancy. I current,y sleep almost exactly like a baby - in max 2 hour bursts. I'm getting fuck all except crochet done because i have no energy. And it's not going to get better, at least for a decade or so Sad

Clarella · 17/09/2012 08:43

morning, I too was sofa surfing from 4 - regular as clockwork seems to be when I wake, if I'm lucky I nap between 6-7 but for those 2 hours I'm super wide awake. Yoga woman said our brains are 'preparing' ..... Confused

FriendofDorothy · 17/09/2012 08:45

My wheat bag and I are permenantly attached I think. I am just really stiff at the moment. I am due to start ante-natal yoga a week on Saturday and I am waiting for physio so hopefully both of those things will help.

Secondsop · 17/09/2012 09:03

Friendofdorothy I too am waiting for a physio although my back does seem to have got a fair bit better after a few days of bedrest.

Sorry to hear about all the bad sleep. Another one here :(

pmgkt · 17/09/2012 09:11

I slept well last night. Think it was s combination of staying up to watch Downton and I have done my tax return and maternity allowance form also done last night. That is a relief.

knottyhair · 17/09/2012 09:47

I went off to sleep no probs at about 10.30, up at midnight for a wee like a mule's, then slept on and off until 5, up for another wee then up with the 6am alarm. Not too bad in the grand scheme of things I guess but DP is at home today laying our lovely new hardwood floor which means lots of hammering and sawing so no nana nap Sad. But hopefully a nice new floor!

Happy Monday everyone. Just spent a while catching up with all the weekend talk. Sorry to those having a hard time, I hope DH/P's start behaving better, that aches and pains go away, and sleep comes for all!

I've not had any comments on my bump at all, and still think it's quite small. I measured right for dates at my last check up, but will get measured again at 28w appointment (on Thurs).

WeeJo08 · 17/09/2012 13:14

Hi everyone! Don't think I've posted since the end of last week. Had the best weekend EVER! We were meeting a friend and her boyfriend for lunch at a pub in Hammersmith on Saturday afternoon - instead when we got there I was totally gobsmacked to see lots of my friends...my DH had planned a surprise birthday party for me!! Grin Shock I was totally blown away by it all - I never suspected it in a million years and can't believe he went to all the trouble of doing such a thing for me. He is amazing :)

On Sunday he was doing a triathlon so we were up in Eton Dorney for that - he did fantastically well and I was so proud of him - took loads of photos Grin That's the second time this year that he has done something like that and Shnarf (our name for bump) has kind of been there too to cheer him on! Although, at the last one (marathon in Paris) we didn't know I was pregnant!

Bella The scan pics are AMAZING! The detail is fantastic and your wee baby looks so...baby-like! That's probably a silly thing to say Blush Looks well worth it to me! Is the DVD good as well? Is someone else having one soon too? Or did I imagine that?!

Sorry for all the sleep difficulties - I actually have slept well the last three nights....fingers crossed it continues! Had more acupuncture today so quite sore though.

What is a wheat bag?

Also, for those on the lookout for car seats - the Maxi Cosi Cabrio-something is on offer in Mothercare for £99 I think (or at least it was last week.)

Sorry for mammoth post!

Stacks · 17/09/2012 13:49

I meant to say, I put up a picture of my bump on my profile, in case anyone wants to compare.

WeeJo Belated happy birthday, and well done to your DH for organising a surprise party for you. There's no way my DH would ever be bothered manage to do that.

utopian99 · 17/09/2012 15:59

Happy late birthday weejo, sounds like a great one!

Question - I'm going to a spa for a hen do this Saturday and want to check what's safe. I know it's not great to overheat the crumb, but is say 5 minutes in a jacuzzi or steam room safe if i then go in the cooler pool, or should i stay out of the hot parts altogether?

WeeJo08 · 17/09/2012 16:04

utopian I'd also be interested in the answer to this! We go away on holiday this week and the hotel has a hot tub/jacuzzi thingy and I usually spend most mornings some time in there. I was wondering if I could also have a quick dip in it. (I genuinely mean 3-4 mins, not the usual hour!)

Bellaboo123 · 17/09/2012 16:23

my back/hips are killing me today too - ouch! Moody cow today because of it.

Stacks your bump is lovely - so cute.

Utopian i went to a spa last month and i was told categorically to stay out of the steam, sauna and jacuzzi. I settled with wallowing in the pool instead.
Also they won't give you a lot of treatments, i was lucky the spa i was at did some pregnancy orientated ones. I went for things like body scrubs, facial, head and shoulder massage etc.

I'm off on hols in a couple of weeks and wonder if I should be covering up the bump in the sun...? Is that right??? Very confused! Any help appreciated...thanks

minipie · 17/09/2012 16:37

Stacks your bump looks a lot like mine (the top profile photo, not the stripey top photos, I assume they are from an earlier stage?) However I have had LOTS of comments about how big I am Hmm. I am small though, 5'3, perhaps if you are taller yours is more in proportion and so draws less comments? I was bang on average measurements at 28 week appointment.

I have also been having a hip/back pain, on the left hand side - it comes and goes and is really starting to make me fed up Sad. If anyone finds a cure please let me know!

Spas - the main thing is that your own body temp doesn't get too hot - personally I think jacuzzis are fine but would stay away from saunas or steam rooms as even 5 minutes in there can really cook you. Massage is ok as long as the person uses plain oil (some aromatherapy oils are a bad idea when preg) and knows what they are doing re preggo ladies. Everything else is fine I think...
