I've put on nearly 7lb but I did lose a bit to start with for some unknown reason

Bellaboo123 · 16/09/2012 09:16

Last time I weighed I'd put on a stone id but mainly bump and top of arms! Great!

I've decided to wash the new born clothes I've got ready to pack babys bag for hospital!

Secondsop · 16/09/2012 10:59

I haven't put on anything BUT! BUT! was very overweight to begin with. I lost 6kilos in the first trimester, and have reclaimed 2.5 of those now. The doctor said that given my starting weight it was ok for me to stay the same weight. I have really been struggling to eat the whole way through.

I haven't been weighed at any midwife appointments apart from at booking.

I expect that I'll start gaining more weight from now on though now the third trimester approaches.

kate2boysandabump · 16/09/2012 12:54

Stacey Glad you had a good nights sleep, it's amazing how much better it makes you feel.

People talking about my bump really makes me Angry They wouldn't say it if I wasn't pregnant. My 'friend' this week told me I was massive and was going to be huge at the end and really laughed about it, I told her I was measuring exactly right thank you very much. Could really have done without it.

Seconds I'm in the same boat as you, I started out quite heavy and after losing some I'm now the same weight as I was. It's not the first time it's happened to me, with ds1 I ended up lighter after delivery than I was at conception. I only got weighed at booking in too. Anyone else been weighed again? I was never weighed with the other 2.

We have taken all of ds2's things out of his old room and put all the baby's things in. We are now officially calling it the baby's room and yesterday we built the cot, hell of a lot easier than the bunk beds!!!! We finished it and dh said, 'look how small it is' and it really is. So sweet and very exciting Grin

Secondsop · 16/09/2012 13:05

kate I'm a bit worried that after the birth, when I may well be lighter than pre-pregnancy, people who only really know me post-baby might say things like "I'm sure you'll lose the baby weight soon" :(

The cot we'll be using is one that we all used as babies! My mum has kept it for decades (my eldest sister is 40). It's a nice wooden one with one side that is adjustable. We'll get a new mattress etc for it, of course. The bars used to have coloured giant beads on them but generations of babies have broken them off. The cot also has bite marks on it from when we were teething babies!

It's ok to put the baby straight into the cot (in our bedroom), isn't it? With his feet against the bottom of the cot? Does one really need a Moses basket? I know there'll be an acreage of space behind his head so it'll look a bit funny but is there any harm in it?

Walnut8 · 16/09/2012 13:57

There's no harm in it secondsop, but we ended up buying a moses basket after the first week of putting newborn DD feet to foot in the cot, and she slept much better in the moses (more snug and secure I think) and stayed in there for the first 3 months, so worth it for us.

Also, for those having hip and pelvic pain when in bed... I was told in first preg to put a pillow between my knees. I would wake up with terrible pain in my hips and pelvis and often had to take paracetamol. This time around I have bought a second very firm high pillow and drape my arm over it which stops me rolling forward on my pelvis/hips (which is apparently what causes the pain) and it's so much more effective. In fact I tried one night with a pillow between my knees and woke to same intense pain as I remember from last time. So a pillow between the knees/ankles isnt always the best thing, maybe, despite that I know it is often recommended. Hope that helps someone!

I am enormous, have put on loads of weight. I fit into medium size mat clothes, 12-14, but hopefully will not put on much more! I'm not eating huge huge amounts either, so it's a bit disappointing Sad

Secondsop · 16/09/2012 14:39

Thanks Walnut - we're borrowing from a friend one of those things that look like a duffle bag that the baby sleeps in, that can be carried or put on a pram, and we could perhaps try that if the baby wants to feel a bit more snug. We'll play it by ear - my husband was a baby who didn't like being constrained in bed so we'll see what the baby prefers.

I've got one of those Mum E Pillows for my back/hips and it does seem to be helping although I can't use it all night yet. I still haven't quite got the perfect pillow formation as even with the Mum E I need a little pillow to support my back as well.

PurplePidjin · 16/09/2012 14:46

I'm reassured after reading that a person whose bmi is between 20 and 26 should expect to gain 25-35lb during pregnancy. However, baby is 6-7lb, plus a pint and a half of fluid... Where does the rest come from?!

Pillow between the legs twists my hips out of line and leaves me aching, if anyone has a cure for peeing every 2 hours over night, I'm desperate here Sad

kate2boysandabump · 16/09/2012 15:28

pidj extra blood, placenta, maternal fat stores, milk, bigger boobs. There's loads of extra stuff, it's not all fat.

second fine to use a cot, I slept in my mom's old cot from birth.

PurplePidjin · 16/09/2012 16:57

Thanks Kate, no sleep = paranoid Pidjie! Dp's been out all day, came home and pointed out I'm wearing sil's size 8 maternity yoga trousers and a size 12 top that predates my weight gain/loss of the 18 months prior to conception Blush

Bubbless · 16/09/2012 17:28

hiya all, been soso busy towards the end of this week! looking to buy a second hand tens machine, what brands are good / reccomended?!

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/09/2012 17:30

Just bought the babies Xmas present for this year...and next! Hmm lol bargains from Costco that I just couldn't pass up. Also my mum is sorted for Xmas so that's my family done! Yay!

Babies rocking crib is now in our (re-arranged) room, and babies drawers etc have been sorted properly. The hospital bag is almost packed (or would be if I I'd bought it all yet). And when my mums down next week she's decorating it for me :) feeling much more prepared now.

We've got about 250 newborn size 2 nappies (from 6/7 lb) 25 packs of baby wipes. 1000 nappy bags (although have a nappy bin too so will only be used while out/with pooey nappies) enough clothes (if it's a boy, if it's a girl we'll need more outfits). My house looks a bit like a warehouse actually! Lol

I hope everyone has had a good day today!

utopian99 · 16/09/2012 17:33

pidj I've gained 18lbs so not a million miles away from you and still in size 10 mat clothes, so i wouldn't worry. Have had all comments right from 'you still look tiny for 6 months' to 'wow you're getting big, if it's not twins you'd better lay off the pies'! Angry

A lot of the extra weigt aside from the baby is maternal fat stores which should disappear naturally during breastfeeding I'm told..

SpottyTeacakes · 16/09/2012 17:47

Oh Stacey you're putting me to shame!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/09/2012 17:48

Do you think Derren Brown would help me have a pain free labour??

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/09/2012 18:18

spotty I think I've been spurred on by the bleed thinking realistically this little one could come whenever. I'm sure it won't but I tend to be slightly dramatic! Grin

As for derren brown, possibly. Apparantly there's a lot to be said for hypnobirthing. I think a lot of it is mind over matter tbh. With dd I was shit scared of it and fought it all the way along and it was horrendous. With ds I was much more laid back and let my body get on with it and it was still painful obv but nowhere near as bad.

Keep an open mind though. Don't think you've failed of you need pain
Relief!

SpottyTeacakes · 16/09/2012 18:21

Well with dd I think it was just such a shock, I was only going in to discuss induction and had her a few hours later Hmm I think Derren is the only answer tbh.... Wink

I haven't even bought the pushchair yet, or the moses mattress! Also got a tonne of washing to do (baby thing) but figure I can do that once I start maternity leave?

I had a hypnobirthing CD last time but only listened to it once or twice, I just don't think it's me, unfortunately.

StaceymReadyForNumber3 · 16/09/2012 18:24

Of course u can leave the washing to do on maternity leave! I doubt very much I have finished rearranging and playing with organising the baby clothes. But to have it all a bit more orderly before we decorate is a good start.

(and DH did the moving etc of the heavy stuff so me and mum don't have to next week)

brooke89 · 16/09/2012 18:47

Hello everyone haven't been on in months as have been so busy with moving house and sorting out redundancy. Just got back from a week in Corfu and am feeling refreshed!

Hope everyone is having a good pregnancy so far and all is well Grin

Cookiesandcream06 · 16/09/2012 19:14

Ooohh just wrote a massive long 'catch up' post and then I deleted it all. Grr.

In a nutshell - bella WOW pics are AMAZING, so so jealous. Wish I could have one. Your bump is lovely, I think I am bigger but definitely not as nice!!

acj eekk how exciting, really hope eveything does go well.

pidj a few weeks ago I realised I had gained 4lbs in a week and havent weighed myself since-far too terrified. I'm sure you're just over worrying and look great, it doesn't sound too much weight at all- a lot of my weightgain with dd1 was fluid retention that I weed out in the first week or so after labour!

stacey i thought i was organised and you're putting me to shame! I have most things but only 12 packs of wipes and nowhere near enough nappies.

GTT tomorrow, am currently stuffing my face in preparation of my starvation! I eat so much these days I physically don't know how I'm going to cope. I ate such a huge plate mountain of roast dinner earlier so I really should be full Blush i did spend all bloody afternoon cooking the damn thing whilst amusing dd so feel i fully deserve it..

Oh and welcome back brooke holiday sounds amazing, glad you had a good time.

Secondsop · 16/09/2012 19:59

Hi ladies, I got a leaflet through the door from Argos about a baby event ending 25 Sept - seems pretty good, savings of up to 50% off pushchairs, carseats, furniture, bouncers, toys, clothes, bottles and potties and monitors.

mwahmwah · 16/09/2012 20:34

Just checking in, well impressed by the 4d pics posted on someone's profile (can't remember whose tho - duh)...
Bought dh an i-pad today, very excited, he hasn't a clue so I literally can't wait till he comes in from work and sees it sitting there! I just love buying pressies, esp cause poor dh is having a difficult time at work just now and needs an injection of happiness :)

PurplePidjin · 16/09/2012 21:02

Thanks, Seconds, just bought £110 worth of car seat for £55! I was going to go for the £40 one due to skintness, your tip means we've got a (hopefully) loads better one for not much more money Thanks

emilyeggs · 16/09/2012 21:03

Bit worried, baby normally quite active with strong kicks but today the kicks are very soft indeed and sometimes quite a few hours apart! Anyone else had this? Don't want to over react and don't want to google Sad

SpottyTeacakes · 16/09/2012 21:15

emily I had a day like that, just assumed baby was facing inwards or something Smile have a cold drink and lay down for a bit. Have you had a busy day? You may just not have noticed it so much today!
