So I've come back to bed and now I can hear the phone downstairs beeping. Think it needs to go on its base or something.. Grrrr.

I'm not getting up again now. I'm too stubborn although it is very annoying!!

LoopyLa · 19/09/2012 04:57

Morning early birds....been awake since 2.30am...feel like today will be the longest day EVER Sad

Still, got myself a Brew and a few Biscuit so will catch up with everyone else's news!

pinpan · 19/09/2012 05:59

Biscuits all round Biscuit - they're gingernuts, and I've made about 60 and eaten about 6 already. Blush But DH says 7 is a reasonable number to eat in one go so maybe I'll just have one more...

I met my backup midwife today, as my main one isn't on call this weekend and I suppose (hope hope hope) that I might actually need her. She seems nice. Baby has spent 3 weeks of appointments being LOA and has now squirmed round to ROA/P though which is annoying. Explains why I felt like my guts were being investigated last night though!

Caught up now, yay!

Thanks WeeSooty about the TENS, I shall take a look later when I'm supposed to be hard at work

Kelbels/thumbwitch thank you for your thoughts on sweeps & peri-massage Smile

And Envy at those who are not at work (I know, I know my time will come!) 13 days to go!! (until I finish work that is, got another 5.5 wks of being preggers Confused )

DH & I went to our local maternity unit yesterday at the hospital & after my worries earlier in the week, it actually made me more excited!! Confused Grin I was the total 'class swot' by having my notebook with me & asking loads of q's (why would you NOT come prepared?!! Shock ) but I have an awful memory so it helped a lot. I'm so wary & nervous about hospitals usually, having had a bad experience years ago & having to stay in a week, but felt really quite calm & relaxed about what we saw & the facilities - and that was even before we were taken round midwifery-led unit which looks so lovely. Really pleased the MWs seem to promote active birthing so have finally decided to have baby there. It'll be less nerve-wracking for DH, knowing that there's medical intervention close by BUT only if I need it. Sadly we know of a couple who's birth story didnt end happily & I know this was at the back of both our minds.

Oh and I know we're sharing advice on here (and thank god frankly!!) but the MW who showed us round yesterday said, after giving birth & if you're planning to BF, then give your boobs a really good massage for 10 mins if possible when showering/bathing afterwards, including under the arm pits as it should help milk come in. Hope that's helpful?

However, the visit had just made my head spin a little with all the info & everything we saw, which is why I've had the crappy nights sleep! Sad

Going to be a day filled with tea & cake to keep me going!

CaptainHetty · 19/09/2012 07:44

Ouch. My boobs. They hurt.

Though, seen as that's all I've got to complain about this morning, I must be doing pretty well for once.

newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 08:14

I've nothing significant to say this morning... Just going back to bed for an hour whilst ds is at nursery before I go for my mw appointment at 10.

Although, Loopy you're absolutely right... Why would you not take notes and ask questions?! Grin I always embarrass my DH when we do stuff like that Blush Grin

MakeTeaNotWar · 19/09/2012 08:16

Morning all. Can I just say how shite I feel? 39 weeks today and been feeling rotten since Monday with those fluey type pains around my whole body including wrists, ankles and behind the eyes. Baby moving fine so not sure if it's a lurgy or late-pregnancy rotteness - I don't remember feeling like this last time though and def don't have the strength or energy for labour feeling like this.

Thanks for the biscuits though pinpan !

newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 08:26

Was just about to comment on your thread maketea Smile

Sorry to hear you're feeling crappy. Hopefully your body will recognise it doesn't have the energy for labour at the mo but to help it along I prescribe paracetamol, lots of fluids, fruit and high energy, filling foods ( porridge maybe?!) rest rest and more rest Smile
Hope you feel better soon Smile

elvislives2012 · 19/09/2012 08:43

Another one feeling uncomfortable and achey here. With nothing positive to say :)
Biscuits all round, I say Biscuit

LoopyLa · 19/09/2012 09:29

I'd best put the kettle back on!

Choccy hobnob anyone??? Grin

9.30am, only 8 hours of work to go Hmm

RunningOutOfIdeas · 19/09/2012 10:04

Morning All. I am also feeling uncomfortable. I got up at 4am this morning for a wander round the house because my legs ached so much.

MissPollysTrolleyed · 19/09/2012 10:33

Congratulations Mickey and welcome Baby Eliza. What a gorgeous name. Well done.

Loopy, thanks for the boob massage advice. Might give that a go - have a feeling I'll need all the help I can get.

Pinpan, you are so industrious. I feel like it's going to be at least a year before I don my apron for baking again. There will obviously be lots of cake but all shop-bought sadly. I love that your DH reckons there's seven biscuits in a portion. I think he and I would see eye to eye on confectionery matters Grin.

Sorry to hear you are all sleeping so badly. I was burning the 3am oil again last night too. My cure for insomnia is to turn on BBC Radio 4's World Service which is so boring that it usually puts me back to sleep but I managed at least two hours last night. I even stayed awake for a 10 minute long shipping forecast. I was out last night too so hadn't gone to bed until 11.30pm and DS had me up at 7am so I reckon I had about 5.5 hours which is just not enough.

Meanwhile, apart from the exhaustion, I'm feeling pretty good. It's a lovely morning here so I am torn between going to the park with my book and painting our hall as was my plan for today. I have already been to the DIY shop to buy brushes and stuff but am feeling very tempted by the sunshine. Also quite tempted by a nice nap. Mmm, I love maternity leave - lots of lovely dilemmas Smile.

pinpan · 19/09/2012 11:40

I'd say go with the book in the sunshine followed by a nap, MissPolly! Grin

Got another sudden dizzy fit just now, while sitting in the car. Can't work out if it is low blood sugar (it must be all of 3.5 hours since I was stuffing my face in the pub) or if I'm squashing some vital blood vessel while sitting down. Confused Don't like it much though. I shall crawl off to bed, leaving this large box of biscuits open for you all to help yourselves so I don't eat them all myself tomorrow. And save me a chocolate hobnob!

MissPollysTrolleyed · 19/09/2012 12:35

I went with the painting in the end . It is a bit of a "lick and a promise" job to tide us over until we can have it painted professionally as there's no way that I'm tackling ceilings etc. Very satisfying though to see all the grubby toddler prints disappearing with the roll of the brush. I guess this is some kind of nesting instinct. I didn't have it last time round so feel I ought to make the most of it.

Pinpan are your iron levels okay? I was dizzy and it turned out I was anaemic. I've run out of iron tablets in the last week and failed to pick up my new prescription and am feeling a bit dizzy again. Could just be low blood sugar though so you should probably get stuck into another portion of ginger nut biscuits Grin.

Winnie81 · 19/09/2012 13:16

Congrats Mickey, 2 down .........loads to go!!

Well nothing to report here, im on day 3 of mat leave and after wandering round Brighton yesterday in the suinshine, today I find myself with not much to do apart from had a friend round for a cuppa earlier.

She said that she used clary sage oil after 37 weeks and this may have caused her labour to start. I dont know a lot about this oil, but some sites say its dangerous in pregnancy. Im 39 weeks tomorrow!! What do you all think??

GizzyBoo · 19/09/2012 13:54

I am 37+5 Winnie and have been using clary sage for the last week. I burn it in an oil burner diluted with a bit of water. I put it in my bath (6-8 drops in a bit of milk) and massage with it (6-10 drops in 10 mils of carrier oil).
You can massage back and shoulders or there are acupressure points on your feet and ankles. You can youtube those for a demonstration.
Only thing I wouldn't do is use it neat on my abdomen.

Saying all that I have had nothing but BH since using it Grin

I am hoping my evening primrose capsules arrive today so I can start using those too.

GizzyBoo · 19/09/2012 13:55

Oh, and for massage I mix in a few drops of lavender for relaxation too.

Winnie81 · 19/09/2012 14:06

ooh what do the evening primrose do? Is there anything else i should order at the same time? I so far have lavender oil and clary sage oil on my list

GizzyBoo · 19/09/2012 14:11

You can use the EPO capsules as a pessary or take them orally. They encourage your body to make its own prostaglandins and the cervix to ripen.

I'm willing to give anything a go!

I would really like this baby out before fil goes away for treatment next week.

newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 14:22

Gizzy I'm amazed you have time to do anything else after reading all you treatment-y things!! Makes my sad little pineapple look like a poor effort Wink

GizzyBoo · 19/09/2012 14:30

Ha Newton they mainly entail me lazing about in the bath or getting my feet rubbed Grin

Now I have to prepare to make a salt dough great wall of china with the boy as part of his homework project. This is gonna end in tears BlushGrin

newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 15:25

Nowt wrong with that!!

I keep meaning to make salt dough... Might do some Christmas decorations with ds (not saying for which Christmas though!!)

CaptainHetty · 19/09/2012 15:34

I like the sound of induction techniques that involve laying in the bath. I must partake in this.

I do salt dough decorations with the kids at Christmas. Tis good fun and nice and cheap as well. Do recall Jess trying to eat it the first time she helped, though... It doesn't taste good :o

Beeblebear · 19/09/2012 18:08

Hi everyone! 1 month to go, still seems so long... Poll out of curiosity, how many of.you have gotten linea negra? I possibly have the light start of one.
