Congratulations Mickey
Both babies have lovely names!

37+3 and I am finally on complete and total maternity leave from both jobs just want to get past my 4 day birthday starting Thursday and then baby can do what it wants!

Hope everyone is feeling relatively fine and dandy Smile

CaptainHetty · 17/09/2012 14:36

My MW told me - I can't find a huge amount of info on it but there's some stuff here - apparently by 'quick' they mean 3 hours or less.

I've avoided it to be on the safe side, though I can't find much that says what the risks actually are if you've given birth quickly previously.

Tomorrow I've an appointment booked with my community MW at 8.50am, a scan at 2.20pm and immediately after that another midwife appointment and CTG at the Day Assessment Unit... Kind of wondering if the 8.50 one is really necessary if I'm going to do the same stuff at the hospital in the afternoon anyways Confused

LoopyLa · 17/09/2012 14:41

THANK YOU EVERYONE for the sympathy last week - work are twats. Fact. Grin

Congratulations Micky what a beautiful name Smile

And I also post on the other October thread but find you?re both equally supportive & lovely so happy to continue to still post on both as postnatal threads if I get the chance to with a newborn obviously I have to say it does move very quickly though so find it easier to keep up with you ladies Grin

Anyone else found/bought a really good TENS machine? I?m a bit worried about buying one (I know I can also hire one out) as I?m such a hot, swetay person these days - what if the pads don?t stick??!! Confused

Beeble/Thumb I?m a total novice clueless idiot when it comes to pregnancy/childbirth so wondered if sweeps were a good thing/worth doing? I think I?m offered it at 40 wks so interested in the reasoning behind them? All I have heard is that they can be uncomfortable for some ladies?!! Hmm

I?m still undecided about home/hospital birth and have a visit to the local maternity unit tomorrow - any thoughts on good questions to ask?! Confused

Anyone doing perineal massage? Any tips for optimal positions?? I need to start that this week but am just too exhausted in general to do anythign, least of all when I?ve had a full day at work Sad

?just 3 weeks of work left!

goodsenseofdirection · 17/09/2012 18:36

Huge congratulations to you Micky!! I read the thread this morning and it was a great way to brighten a Monday morning on the way to work Grin lovely name too.

Hope everyone else is well and not getting too impatient!

All well here, v tired after sleepless night, just taken an extra day off work on thursday, can't wait to finish. 7 more days. House stuff is getting stressful - the toilet leaked again yesterday after for the 3rd time in 3 wks... And this time apparently has leaked thru to the neighbours below Sad Can't help but think I need to spend more time thinking about the baby rather than the flat, so I'm hoping s/he is nice and cosy in there.

Hope to catch up later in the week and looking forward to hearing more exciting baby news ladies Grin

LittleGoldPlasticPeople · 17/09/2012 18:52

Congratulations Mickey Thanks Grin

Will now read through thread properly!

Kelbells · 17/09/2012 21:02

Hello all!

I haven't posted for aages... Lurking as usual...so thought I'd drop in! Wanted to say congratulations to Mickey and Babybrain can't believe mid September and we've got babies already!

I'm now 35+4, have started mat leave and I don't know how many of you are still coping at work 'til the bitter end... Baby's started to engage and I'm uncomfortable and get tired so easily these days! The nursery is finished, the NCT classes done, nappies and clothes washed and put away...Just trying to get house stuff done now, we moved a few weeks ago so still putting the last few boxes away, walking the doggies and cooking for the freezer are the staples of my days.

I've been having serious braxton hicks today.... I've just had tightenings before but today it's full on backache that gets worse before my stomach tightens... At least I think it's BH, I'm on high alert in case they become regular as I've got a cervical stitch in... I don't want to think about what will happen if my cervix starts to dilate Confused

I'm sympathising with all the sleep deprevation... Up at least twice in the night for the loo and DH has taken to sleeping in the middle of the bed with his arms splayed out.... Will we sleep again properly in the next 10 years?! Sad

Gizzy You have the right idea!!

Beeble Same thing happened to me, I was so worried I'd lose my wedding ring! It took a lot of ice, soap and praying to get off!!

Kelbells · 17/09/2012 21:08

P.S Loopy My SIL gave birth at 40+5 three weeks ago and had 2 sweeps, I think they basically run their finger around the cervix which can release hormones that kick start labour - She went into labour the afternoon of her second sweep (may have been a coincidence, who knows..) but she has a low pain threshold and said it was a little bit uncomfortable but less so than a smear... I've been offered one at 38+5 and will go for it in case it helps things along! Grin

Know I should be doing the perineal massage but been putting it off so far!!!

WeeSooty · 17/09/2012 21:27

Evening all!

Congratulations heyMickey Wooooo! What a gorgeous name, hope you and Eliza are doing well!

Goodsense That?s great your heating is fixed now, its getting cold here already :( Our house is coming along, hoping to have insdie finished by this weekend and I?m not worrying about the outside!

Thunder How did your tired NCT class go??

Bubble How are you feeling now? How is your new car??? Grin

Hetty How are you holding up? Its been all drama the past few days!!

loopy I got my tens machine from natures gate £23.00 for a 6 week hire. It?s the company my hospital recommend.

waves and chocolate to everyone I haven?t name checked.

Can I give out too much info and ask for advice?

Earlier on today I felt like a warm whoosing sensation down below (told you tmi Blush ) actually thought I?d randomly peed myself! When I nipped to the toilet to check it was just a massive gloop of cleary white discharge? Is this a show??? And if it was a show what the hell does that mean??? I?m 37+3 today, no other major symptoms other than painful pelvis and way too emotional past couple of days. Does anyone have any experience of shows? I?m slightly stressing as I just don?t feel ready for a baby yet!!

Thumbwitch · 17/09/2012 23:55

No experience of shows, never had one, sorry! But it could be the mucus plug? (no experience of that either)

I had sweeps in my induction last time, can't say they made any difference though. Will be starting them next week (37w) though, especially if this baby refuses to go head down.

Perineal massage - the only place I found I could do it was on the loo Blush - just seemed to be the only way I could reach.

newtonupontheheath · 18/09/2012 04:52

Congratulations Hetty Grin Eliza is a beautiful name. You must be very proud... And very relieved its all over Wink

Also love William... Very classic names so far Smile

I had a show with ds and it was like jelly-actual jelly. There was a bit more blood than I'd expected but I rang the mw and she reassured me this was ok. It happened after we'd dtd so maybe that would shake things up a bit can't really be arsed though!

Didn't have any sweeps prior to labour with ds but mw did give me a stretch and sweep (ouch!!) when she checked me over during labour. I doubt I needed the encouragement by then but I appreciated the thought!!

goodsenseofdirection · 18/09/2012 09:34

how is everyone this morning?

sooty No experience of shows here either but that does sound like the discharge I get every so often... Esp since it's white. Lovely part of pregnancy.Grin

hetty how are you? Any more news/contractions?

Have a good day everyone Smile hope we all catch up on some sleep!

GizzyBoo · 18/09/2012 10:08

Sooty I too have ever had a show before and this is #4.

I have been getting discharge ranging from milky/watery stuff to globs of stringy stuff Envy

I actually had a nosy/feel down there yesterday Blush Told hubby he's not to go there again! It feels so wrong lol Must be the pressure of the babys head making things feel swollen!

Didn't stop him from waking me up at 6 this morning for what he called "a bit of nip tweaking and a dose of prosties" Grin I got the giggles as I thought he was offering to bring me a bowl of Frosties Blush

CaptainHetty · 18/09/2012 11:14

I only remember one show and that was with my first - it was quite a lot of mucus type stuff and blood streaked - which is normal. It was quite gunky and gross :o

Had my first appointment of the day and my wee is now clear of protein. MW not measuring any growth at all over 2 weeks though so we're waiting for some confirmation from the growth scan this afternoon. She's suggesting if there's no/little growth or if I am losing more fluid then I'll probably be induced because in those circumstances staying in there isn't doing Flump any more good than if she were born, especially as I'm 38+1 now. No suggestion of how soon induction would be, but hopefully get more clarification from the hospital this afternoon.

CaptainHetty · 18/09/2012 11:16

Also I just actually lol'd at Gizzy and her bowl of Frosties :o

pinpan · 18/09/2012 11:22

Mmm, discharge. We're all so glamorous now. Grin

Good luck with the scan, Hetty, hope it all works out well.

I had a bonus trip to the midwife today after I had a couple of brief 'episodes' yesterday - sudden blurry vision in one, and sudden dizziness in the other (horrible - I thought the world was sliding sideways and I had to hold onto the table to stop myself falling off the chair). Apparently my blood pressure has gone up a bit, but otherwise everything looks okay, and bump has been kicking away merrily the whole time. Got to go back again tomorrow and see if BP is still up. Confused

Extravagant moment confession: I ordered a beautiful merino sleeping bag with ladybirds on it. Hope the Bump likes bags!

Thumbwitch · 18/09/2012 11:50

at prosties/Frosties! Grin

I forgot to say - I found out yesterday that my consultant is on holiday from next week for 2 weeks. This exponentially increases my chances of early labour, knowing my luck. He's seeing some patients next week, so I'll see him on Tuesday morning, which will be me at 37+2; but not making any appts for the week after! Shock Am a bit scared!

CapnHetty - hope all is well with Flump. Perhaps she's just ready to come out?

newtonupontheheath · 18/09/2012 12:20

Sorry... Earlier I meant congratulations mickey not hetty ... Not yet anyway Wink

Nobody seemed to notice that.... I'm hoping it's because we are all losing our marbles!

Have been cleaning the kitchen today (nesting at last!) Left ds in the living room whilst I made a start and have come back in to see he has drawn all over his arms Blush Bad mummy.... Neglected toddler!

GizzyBoo · 18/09/2012 14:53

I am thinking that relations with hubby will be forever more referred to as "Having a bowl of Frosties" Grin

Newton that's nothing. When my DD was wee I once left her crawling around naked downstairs while I went to get her a change of clothes. I came back to find she had not only covered herself and the carpet in her own poo but she was stuffing a handful in to her mouth too! Envy I wasn't quite sure which bit of her to grab. I sat her in the bath and hosed her down with the shower Grin

Feeling better?? Grin

CaptainHetty · 18/09/2012 17:20

As I said on Facebook, fluid levels stabilised so she's staying put for now, no induction yet! Back to see the consultant next week but until then going to try every method of labour induction in the book lol. MW reckons it won't be much longer - baby is very low and I'm still having contractions every now and then. Hoping if my body is ready a little shove in the right direction will move things a bit faster - even if it doesn't, I think just having something to concentrate on will make me less frustrated.

Newton I once left Will sat on the floor while I run to the loo for a much needed wee (was pregnant with Jess at the time) and by the time I'd returned he'd found and eaten half a pot of Sudocrem. His face was white, I didn't know whether to laugh or cry... Luckily according to NHS Direct there are no ill effects from ingesting it, other than it tasting incredibly horrid. Didn't seem to bother him, however Hmm

newtonupontheheath · 18/09/2012 19:43

Gizzy you're definitely winning on the poo front Wink I don't trust him without a nappy on when I'm in the same room, let alone going upstairs!

Unfortunately Hetty he's done the bloody sudocrem thing several times. Now I feel worse as I've never bothered ringing NHS direct about it!!! Blush Grin

God help me when there are two of them!!

I've had a bit off an "off" afternoon... Mid kitchen clean, I came over a bit funny- shaky and then needed to go to the loo- a lot!! Feel fine now though but hope that may have been a small sign...?! Who knows!

Bear1984 · 18/09/2012 23:08

Congrats Micky!! What a gorgeous name, so happy for you!!

newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 03:26

W-I-D-E awake tonight....

That is all Smile

pinpan · 19/09/2012 03:46

Fancy a biscuit, newton? I'm baking! Grin Though it is a little off-putting having a small foot rammed under my ribs while I do so...

OP posts:
newtonupontheheath · 19/09/2012 04:01

Oh yes please! I've just had 2 bowls of cereal though do only one Wink

Might try going back to bed soon as otherwise I jut stay up indefinitely....

I can imagine how baking with other peoples limbs in the way could be distracting Grin good luck with that one!

I doubt I'll get round to any baking before baby is born, as I'm still working my way through my (lengthy) to do list! Tomorrow... I will be charity shopping sorting the toys Grin

WeeSooty · 19/09/2012 04:11

Can I have a biscuit too please??? Grin

I am tired so I don't know why I'm awake! So annoying!!! DH is nightshift think it makes me more awake than normal. Sigh. Can't decide if I should get up and eat or get off mumsnet and try to sleep!
