A new thread as the other one was ready to burst!
Thanks *Mikocat" for the new name.

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Wrigglebum · 04/05/2012 11:13

Hello all, hope everyone is surviving and not getting too impatient Smile. congratulations Mikocat, sorry the birth didn't go quite as you'd hoped but if you're like me you forget all of that as soon as you see your baby. Keeping my fingers crossed for the rest of you that births and pregnancies go smoothly and that parents and in-laws behave!

Adam is doing really well. He's a really calm little boy, surely it can't last! He's feeding a lot in the day but last night he fed 10pm, 12, 4 and then 7 so I'm feeling pretty well rested. DH actually had a worse night with DS who has a bit of a cough and cold. My scar is feeling better day by day, as long as I'm slow and careful I can get around fine. Haven't left the house yet, just enjoying the peace as DH takes DS to playgroup each morning.

My milk has well and truly come in now and Adam is feeding really well, lots of wet and dirty nappies. He weighed 6lb yesterday so only lost 4oz which I'm pretty pleased with. Got his heel prick test tomorrow, he's not going to like that!

Harecare · 04/05/2012 11:34

Oh dear Tostaky, I don't have the V, just the D. I hope you feel better soon. Being ill on top of being pregnant is just so rubbish! Fingers crossed this time tomorrow we'll both be better.

Bodeccia · 04/05/2012 11:54

Eek, hare and tost! What a nightmare for you both! This is the one reason why I'm a bit reluctant to try the hot curry remedy for getting this little one out, I'm worried it will "unloosen" a different part of my body Blush. I hope you feel better soon and aren't too knackered by the bug.

Don't think this is going to be a star wars baby. Oh well. It won't have Jedi for a middle name then.

EDD is tomorrow. It is the full moon this weekend. When I did the tour of the hospital they said that maternity wards were weirdly full on or around the full moon. They also mentioned it at my antenatal classes which is in a different NHS trust.

Maybe we're actually all a bunch of werewolves Grin ahoooooOOOOoooo! (Ha, could try making that noise during labour - it might help! Hmm)

Ladybee · 04/05/2012 12:21

Hi all -
keep reading but by the time I've caught up I've run out of time to write! Just wanted to say congratulations to Yorky, Miko and Wriggle and looking forward to seeing the May babies arrive.

Do we want to start a May post-natal thread as well? I'm happy to stay hanging here or do both?

Had a lovely day here today, we're heading into Autumn but it was a beautiful sunny day and I enjoyed sitting out in it with DD looking up at the trees for a long while, writing thank you cards. We've had packages arriving most days since being home, people are being so generous with lots of lovely girly things. Which is good because it balances out DS's hand-me-downs.

SirCharles you should be able to find waterproof mattress protectors at places like John Lewis, which could be useful if you're worried. We have a woollen underlay which is machine washable so tend to just use that. For some reason I wasn't worried about waters breaking this time (and I was right, they didn't go), but last time used the pampers mat and just always had a towel next to the bed. After the birth, you might leak milk or have night sweats, but I'm finding wearing breast pads in a night bra is fine.

Harecare I agree that anxiety about something is likely to stop you going, so with a bit of luck, yup, it'll all go to plan Grin

Right, am hearing grunting and grumbling coming from DD. Am going to get into pyjamas so am ready to get into bed once I've fed her. Fingers crossed she doesn't decide to stay awake for ages.

alwaysanauntie · 04/05/2012 12:59

Sircharles am going to gatecrash this rival May thread to answer your waterproof mat question (by the way, on the other Wink May thread we're all Shock at how many babies have arrived here, I don't think there's that many from our original list still following, but looks like we'll all be May or June over there!)

I've bought a couple of waterproof mattress protectors as I'm planning a homebirth so they are definitely necessary, I got one from dunelm mill here: protector] for £17.99 in kingsize, and was given a double one the same from John Lewis by DM as it was left over from DSIS's homebirth a few weeks ago (unsed BTW!!). I also got a pack of the disposable pads from boots here: [[http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Maternity-mats-5-pack_924022/ mats which seem to be the same as the MW has, fine for small/rare leaks and probably what I'll put on the bed once I've washed and changed the sheets today over our usual mattress protector but under the main sheet so it stays relatively flat (or so I hope!).

Back off to the other thread now - well done ladies here with babies to cuddle already, good luck everyone else! :o

alwaysanauntie · 04/05/2012 13:00

sorry, cocked up one link, must try harder: dunelm mill here: protector

cupcakefairy · 04/05/2012 13:16

There's another May thread?? How did that happen! Shock
ladybee I personally prefer the 'we're all antenatal til we're all postnatal' mentality.. tends to be that when a postnatal thread gets made the antenatal one ends up being 2 or 3 fed up overdue ladies while all the others chat happily about their babies over on postnatal.. but that's just my opinion please feel free to make one if u prefer but I'd love to read all the baby news anyway so it might aswell all be on the same thread?

Hope oltob is getting on ok..will hers be our first May baby, or will someone else pop by in a couple of days to announce an earlier birth..can't wait to hear all the news coming in!

Massive sympathies to tostaky & harecare I too have v v loose bowels the last few days to the point where I have wondered if it's my body gearing up for something.. can only hope!

charles I would second swaddling with a small blanket for first few weeks (unless you get a baby that hates it! Some do!) And grobags a bit later on. Don't think we used a grobag til ds went in his cot at about 4 months.

sarah glad you've had more movement & LOL at the oral nipple stimulation in labour!! Shock I'd have to be really desperate to make dh do that in the delivery room!!

Lovely to hear about your little ones wriggle & ladybee.. I got so excited by the post arriving every day when ds was born :)

Right, lunch time for me.. here's hoping lots of babies make their appearance over this very convenient bank holiday weekend!

Please ignore my previous message, turns out I am breaking rules.

Sorry!

Harecare · 04/05/2012 15:44

Feeling much better and managed to have a couple of hours sleep without having to dash to the toilet - Hooray! Eaten some toast and a chocolate flapjack, hopefully we won't have any more mad dashes.
DP and I seem to be bonding over our shared illness! I'm hoping that when he sees how stunning I look at the wedding tomorrow he might have second thoughts about leaving and then when our full moon baby arrives he'll go all soft and nice again.
Fingers crossed! There are still things to work on, but we can't work on them unless we both want to.

purestcocoa · 04/05/2012 16:08

Congratulations Miko, I hope you are enjoying the first precious moments.

Hi Wriggle it's nice to hear that you and Adam are doing well.

A lot of posts since I last checked and I am struggling to keep up- I'm not very good at this lol Blush

I've seen the other May thread, but I think it's for late May only. I could be mistaken.

I have two days until EDD and full moon Grin. I had my first acupuncture session today which was a bit painful, but really relaxing- after the first five minutes. I have another one on Wednesday if the LO doesn't make an arrival beforehand. The acupuncturist said most women give birth after the second treatment.

Warning Trivial Whinge:
As I've given up waiting for the LO to come anytime soon, I focused my excitement on waiting for my widgey pillow thinking it would be a sure thing- I got a email and tracking online page. After frantically checking the 'track my order' page, It eventually stated that customer had signed for it when I had not!
So I rang Asda who contacted the courier service. The delivery guy then called me to say he accidentally delivered it to the lady above me who has a 5 month old baby! So I stomped upstairs to collect my delivery and she said she was busy getting ready- this was around 2pm. She received my widgey about 30 minutes ago.
At this point, I was convinced she had opened it and I was a bit annoyed that she hadn't corrected the delivery guy rather than sign for it. She come down 30 minutes later and apologises for opening it. It was a small hole, but she said she wasn't expecting a delivery to which I said 'it says my name and address' Hmm.

I know I am being petty, but excuse my hormonal state. I do feel better for bashing it out on my lap top though :)

Come on May babies!

purestcocoa · 04/05/2012 16:14

Harecare glad you're feeling a bit better. Work your magic at the wedding tomorrow. It's the perfect event too Wink.

oltob · 04/05/2012 16:40

hello all, congratulations miko on your darling girl, a beautiful name too. My short term memory is shot but whomever wondered if they could have an April with a May what about Avril, also lovely That's taxed my remaining brain cell!
I'm waiting to have my waters broken, the delivery suite is full and it's taken 3 pessaries since Weds to get to this point. Slow & uncomfortable, from the experience so far I am wishing I resisted induction much more, even though I'm an old bird.
I will try my hardest for a star wars baby, certainly don't want to be on pre-natal another night, am missing DD terribly.

Good luck to all, and get well soon to those suffering.

Harecare · 04/05/2012 17:03

oltob Good luck. I hope it doesn't take too long. You'll be the first May baby.
I was wondering about April, not keen on Avril though. Maybe I'll post in baby names and see what comes up?

oltob · 04/05/2012 17:37

Avril does remind me of 'Howards Way' really showing my age now.

Still waiting anyway, I think more likely tomorrow for us now but if delivery already chocca full moOn w/end will be crazy. DH is considering Vader as a name choice now.

LimeFlower · 04/05/2012 19:05

Hello everybody:)

Strangely enough seeing the moon last night shining straight into the window was wondering about how many of us would pop Hmm

cupcake, yes there is another May thread on Pregnancy forum,it's too late to merge now but somebody asked about post natal thread? It would be difficult at the beginning,but...the more the merrier?

alwaysauntie if you're lurking i don't see thread you're on as rival-joined both quite late as i was afraid of miscarriage but didn't see the point of writing the same on both threads. How the other ones manage that I haven't got a clue.

Harecare work your magic,fx for you

Miko can't remember whether I congratulated you?All the best and congrats of course :)

Catsy feel sorry your PIL's are such PITA but you're not obliged to please anybody, there's nothing you MUST and SHOULD.I adopted this approach a few years back.It brings a big shock to everybody around when they hear "no" from such a laid back person but tough luck.In this situation put yourself and the baby first for your own good-sod the other's opinion.

gotmylittlelamb how are you doing and how's little Sophia?

oltob good luck!

Went to the city yesterday and visited Post Office.Do you know that you can get free life insurance for a baby and parents for a year?More details here www.postoffice.co.uk/insurance/life-cover/new-parent-cover wondering whether stick it into separate thread on Pregnancy forum.

Gosh,I must be huge as everybody in the shops asked me when the wee one's due-in the pharmacy, bank, fuel station,checkouts...

so..who's next to pop?

LimeFlower · 04/05/2012 19:06

Oooops,here's the link

www.postoffice.co.uk/insurance/life-cover/new-parent-cover

Catsycat · 04/05/2012 20:00

purest, Hmm at your neighbour! Sounds a bit of a cheek...

oltob good luck, hope things get moving for you soon.

harecare enjoy the wedding, hope DP will be putty in your hands Grin!

Lime I think that's why my mother reacted so nastily at Christmas - she is not used to me saying no. Needs to grasp that I am 38 (39 on monday...) not 8! We will try be be firm with parents and PIL!!!

DD1 enjoyed doing her sewing - made two hand puppets she got as first prize in the Easter bonnet parade a few weeks back. She shared them nicely with DD2, who then told DH she had made "her" one (DD1 was going "no you didn't!"! Started making a cuddly elephant for the baby, tried explaining to DD1 about how to use the pattern etc, but she most wanted to play with the pins!!!!

DH has ordered us curry for tea - yum - so just waiting for that to arrive. Enjoy friday evening everyone - surely someones going to pop this weekend??

LittleSarah · 04/05/2012 21:09

I am also one of those who didn't notice the other May thread! How annoying, I have been lurking in loads of other antenatal ones too Wink.

Had a lovely day with dd and my mum this afternoon. Bit of cinema, bit of shopping, quick meal at Pizza Express. Then I went to pick up ds who was at my dad's and caught a glimpse of how he could be when baby is born... and it wasn't pretty! Step sister was there with her daughter (1yr) who came crawling over and pulled herself up on my knees, over raced ds 'no no' he cries. Then I took step niece on my lap and tried to cuddle ds at the same time, 'no no' he cried again trying to push step niece away.... Sad Oh dear oh dear oh dear. Am desperately hoping that by the time it is just me, ds1 and ds2 in the weeks to come he will at least have accepted the baby's existence!

Saw midwife this morning, 3/5 palpable so wee man appears to be moving down. Heartbeat all fine but she did encourage me to phone hospital next time I worry about movement. I'm all officially on for home birth now as I hit 38 weeks at midnight and all the kit has been delivered! Midwife did also say I should phone them if I began to have labour signs/twinges even if it's not labour definitely beginning so they can arrange schedules... problem is I've really never had much warning!

Oh bluecrane, you'll remember I complained about my employers lack of real interest/care...? My friend who is replacing me for six months was down at our big conference these last couple of days and she sent me an email saying I should expect to be getting something from them... Wink. So I may actually get some kind of present! Rather miraculous if so!

Catsy - Well done to your dd with her sewing! I tried to teach dd to knit with a wee kit I gave her for her birthday but it still seems a very stressful struggle!

I'm with cupcake on waiting until everyone has had babies until starting postnatal (I'm happy to hear all the baby chat!) but can always jump around if you guys want one.

oltob - Really hope things start going for you soon! Good luck!

Wriggle - Glad to hear Adam is doing so well and feeding... is that all fine and pain free? Just nosy me. Dd feed easily with no pain, ds was a sadly different story.... not sure how this one will do!

tostaky - I should get a couple of cheap bras too, the two I have are really rather nice and I tend to leak so much in the first 6 weeks that I probably should try and save them for later!

harecare - Glad you are feeling better!

cupcakefairy · 04/05/2012 22:58

littlesarah yippee for being all on for home birth :) exciting. Hear you on the whole leakage in first few weeks thing! I remember one particular time in the park feeding ds & my other boob just drenched me in milk Blush thankfully I had a pashmina on to cover the massive wet mark!! But have pretty Elle Macpherson bras for once we're past the initial stages.
I honestly just can't believe I'll have a baby in a matter of days..every now & then the realisation just shocks me.

cocoa how annoying about your delivery! Glad it's got to you now though. It's a lovely pillow isn't it.

oltob you poor thing that was my fear when I was induced before (but thankfully first pessary worked for me) really hope the ARM speeds things up for you & you have a baby tomorrow.

harecare enjoy the wedding :)

I have been leaning over my birth ball a lot today just willing this baby to swivel round.. so hope it works :(

SESthebrave · 05/05/2012 09:18

Morning all!

Any births overnight??! Grin

cupcake - hope the birth ball does the trick for you!

oltob - hope you've not much longer to wait

LittleSarah - sounds like a lovely time yesterday. I'm also a bit worried about how DS will respond to the new baby. My friend had her DC2 a couple of weeks ago and her 2yo DD dotes on the new baby but is playing up for her parents!

LimeFlower - I get the same reaction from people! Still getting people amazed that I still have 3 weeks to go and that there's only 1! I really don't think I'm that big - more like they have an image of how big a pg woman looks and it's not someone with a few weeks to go IYKWIM. Have also noticed a few stares from random strangers Hmm

Harecare - hope you're feeling well today and enjoy the wedding.

Right sorry not to say more hellos but have to go and get DS ready for his Rugbytots session. He's going with DH whilst I have a relaxing shower and sort out some washing / hospital bag packing. I'm then going to meet them in Starbucks afterwards :)

Bodeccia · 05/05/2012 10:01

Morning all

Well, today is my EDD. I feel enormous, and like you lime people in shops freely ask me when I'm due. They're always a bit shocked that I've been saying "Saturday".

I can't find the other thread, it seems a bit daft having two threads for one month. Come and say hello people Grin!

Hope everyone has a great bank holiday!

dreamingofanallotment · 05/05/2012 10:13

Morning!

No baby here overnight - but not for want of trying! Had a hot hot takeaway curry last night, and then spent the eve bouncing and doing hip figures of eight on my ball, but all that seemed to do was give me heartburn at 2am! I'm not due until Tuesday though so I might have a lot longer to wait! Getting impatient now, I want to meet my baby!

I've been getting the 'ooh it can't be long now!' comments and stares from strangers too - makes me laugh as people look at my tummy first and then my face!

Hope the wedding goes well harecare and hope those struck down with D&V are feeling much better.

Happy EDD bodeccia!

Hope everything is going well oltob!

mythical · 05/05/2012 11:01

Hi everyone! Still here, still overdue! Had a bit of a manic day yesterday!
I was home alone all day so I decided to tidy the whole house, c

mythical · 05/05/2012 11:04

Bloody phone :)
Tidy the whole house, sort out through my huge makeup bag, cook dinner for mil and dh, then in the evening I did my pedicure and highlights..
Don't ask me why - I usually spend my days lying in bed watching crap tv so it was a change!
I remember having some really bad pains last night in my lower back that woke me up but nothing since !
Well, can't be lOng now!!! Hope you're all well
