Hoping to carry on the brilliant thread started by misscoffeenwine which was so popular we got to 1000 posts before starting another - come over and join me...... Promise to think of a more original name for Part 3!

Does anyone else have their scan on 3rd May like me? I think I need to remind DH that it is actually an anomaly scan and prepare him for the possibility of bad news as we have been looking forward to it as if it would be purely positive thing. No reason to think there is anything wrong but best to prepare just in case.

Am wishing I could feel the baby - I think I felt something last night in bed but nothing since as yet.

Bakeroo · 16/04/2012 21:15

Rusulka I will be thinking of you tomorrow and I'm sure everything will be fine :) I'm apprehensive too but am sure we'll both be fine. How exciting to see the baby again! It's probably the last time we will see them until they're born, so make sure you enjoy that time. I'll write tomorrow with an update.
Well done with keeping a steady weight, I feel like I'm gaining weight in my sleep....I feel very heavy! X

twizzlestix · 16/04/2012 21:50

Had my scan today and... I'm joining coffee in team pink :) She is not co-operative though! They have a long checklist of things they look at and her heads is so low in pelvis they could check one part of the brain even though I went for a walk and a jiggle! Scan pics are RUBBISH too! Even sonographer said to get next ones for free cause stroppy madam had back to us throughout :) Got to go back in next 2 weeks for them to check it! Everything else seemed fine though so fingerscrossed next one will be too!

Oh my placenta is anterior and from googling it seems this could be why any movements I've felt have been really faint and of the 'baby or not?' variety.

Good luck for tomorrow rusulka

leelteloo · 17/04/2012 07:13

Team pink is growing, we need to even things up Grin

Macaroons · 17/04/2012 08:45

Congrats twizzle and good luck bakeroo less than 10 days till my scan. Looking forward to it! I started crocheting lately, if I find out the sex I can go with colours other than cream, brown and grey.

Macaroons · 17/04/2012 08:47

And good luck rusulka too!

elliemay80 · 17/04/2012 08:59

Congrats twizzlestix. My placenta is anterior too so I figure that is why I haven't felt much movement. 20 weeks today and last night I think I felt stronger movement- a swooshing feeling quite different to the feint bubbly fluttery feelings of a few weeks back. Haven't felt any so far today but I think I know what to look out for now!

Good luck for scans rusulka and bakeroo!

Loup23 · 17/04/2012 10:55

Thinking of you bakeroo and rusulka let us know how you get on and whether we have any team blues out there....! Congratulations to twizzle for team pink - you can now buy lots of girlie things! My 20 week scan pics were rubbish too!

I have seen the osteo today re the back/hip pain and he said it is sacral joint pain and v common in pregnancy..... have some stretches etc to do and am starting pregnancy yoga today, hoping this doens't last the remaining 19.5 weeks as was actually starting to enjoy pregnancy!

Good luck to all those with scans this week - if anyone else has a low lying placenta, have you been referred for another scan and when? I have a follow up at 34 weeks but the osteo seemed to think I should have another one sooner to check...... Confused

flipflopper · 17/04/2012 12:27

ooh its so exciting people having scans and finding out what they're getting!

One week til mine, and will be finding out for the first time, we didnt with the other 2 as I didnt want to know, but dh won this time. I'm thinking girl, but would be happy with either!

Have decided on names already got a girl and a boy sorted!

Good luck to ladies having scans today, let us know how you get on! x

lurkingmurking · 17/04/2012 15:42

Smallgreenone I wouldn't worry about the sausage tbh. I've been having rare meat as it's so rare to get toxoplasmosis.

Quite a bit of movement here too (18+3) I feel it probably twice a day and sometimes it's quite a kick!

Great to have lots of good scan news and finding out some team colours!

rightontime · 17/04/2012 16:57

Yay great to hear of lots of scans. Congratulations on your girl twizzle Can't wait to hear how todays scans went.

My scan is on Thursday but we wont find out gender. Will wait and see.

Bakeroo · 17/04/2012 21:57

Had our scan today and everything went really well! We didn't find out the sex as DH wants the surprise at the end....I was trying to change his mind a little but now happy to wait. It was lovely to see the baby again and to officially know where it is (head down, facing my back/spine) at the end she struggled to see it's face so I had to go away for 20 mins, have something sweet to eat and something to drink, jump up and down an walk a lot! When we went back in the baby had moved! So she managed to check everything she needed to and everything was normal...thank goodness. She really prodded around which actually began to hurt a little but apart from that it was all good. The photos weren't as good as the 12 week scan as it's so big now but that's ok, it was lovely to see it's little heart beating away :)
Can feel lots of movements this evening. I can't believe we're not going to see it again now until it's born!
Oh and to ease my discomfort in bed last night I put a pillow between my knees, one pushed in to my back and a small long cushion pulled in to/ just underneath my little bump.....and I slept much better!

Good luck to everyone else with their scans coming up.

oikopolis · 17/04/2012 23:50

oh God i need to stop eating so many Wotsits. just ate a massive bag, really unlike me, feel sick now!!

consultant bumped up anomaly scan to tomorrow!! can't wait to find out if boy or girl. (tho the scan is being bumped up to check for incompetent cervix.... trying not to worry about that)

pgreen · 18/04/2012 07:34

wow what brilliant news is starting to arrive this week. So exciting to hear 20 week scans are going well and that we have some future princesses in our midst.

Officially wore my trouser extender today as my jeans wouldn't do up. Might have to get a belly band to as kept flashing the undone zip at people accidentally. Interesting about pillows and sleeping Bakeroo I've been sleeping with a pillow between my legs but maybe the bump needs a prop up too.... maybe nearly time for the silly long sausage pillow. Anyone using a genie yet?

MakeTeaNotWar · 18/04/2012 09:07

Congrats on all the lovely scan news everyone! Mine is still 3 weeks away as I'm just 17 weeks today but it falls in DH's 40th birthday which - fingers crossed that all is well - is a lovely present! I've got my 16 week check up tomorrow and can't wait to hear the heartbeat. Not feeling any movement yet so I need reassurance that all is well.

Is anyone doing or considering hypnobirthing?

Rusulka · 18/04/2012 09:47

Had scan, all ok, sonographer was a fucking nightmare, no emotion or compassion, wish I'd had yours Bakeroo!
Peanut was laid with their arms across their face like they were praying, and wouldn't move, so the sonographer just starting punching my stomach with the ultrasound wand. She didn't warn me or anything. Really upset about it. She did it another 5 or so times, none of which worked, (I told her it wouldn't after the first attempt). I asked if she wanted me to get up and jiggle but she said no, and just kept bashing me with it. Horrible experience.
That's not a normal technique, right? Want to complain, but DH seems to think I'm making a big fuss over nothing. Angry Convinced Peanut is black and blue now, and pissed off with me for putting them through it, which explains 2 well-aimed kicks at my pubic bone last night... Sad

In other news, we found out the sex- and we're having a little girl too!
Haven't told family yet, who are now annoyed as they were all gagging to know, but will tell them when we go up to visit my parents in Norfolk at the beginning of May, (same day as MiL goes off to Brazil), so we will tell her when she gets back a month later, and I can monitor her purchases then! Just doesn't bear thinking about otherwise...

We told everyone we were pregnant the day after we found out, since it was Christmas and we were with DH's family for the day. They would have wanted to know why we couldn't stop grinning. Would have preferred to keep it to ourselves at least til the 12 week scan, although looking back, I could still have kept it a secret til the 20 week scan, as I'm not showing one bit, and had no symptoms to speak of. Will probably do that next time, although doubt I'll stay bump-less much past 12 weeks next time...
So it's nice to keep this bit of information to ourselves for now. Will spill beans in about 2 and a half weeks.

FX for good scan news for everyone who has them coming up.

Maketea I would have loved to do hypnobirthing, but can't afford the classes and realistically, being under a consultant, probably won't get to do what I want, though I'll fight tooth and nail all the way.

Ju1es22 · 18/04/2012 09:48

Hey ladies

Great to hear all the good news!

I've not really been on hear since my last trip to hospital, babys ok definatley very wriggly movements getting stronger every day, like a proper kicks and punches:-)

Had my first physio appt last week for spd which helped at the tme, but my god I was sore that pm n next day. Just gotta persivere and wear my support belt which is ever so sexy!

Off for my 20 week scan this afternoon, were not finding g the sex out at this scan we've got a private 4d scan booked for 27 may, still hoping babyll give us a sneek peak he he!

Will let you know later xx

Loup23 · 18/04/2012 10:46

Congratulations Bakeroo and Rusulka, is that now 3 little girls we know of?!

Good luck with scans today jules and oikopolis, so lovely to be hearing great 20 week news - half way there!

maketea a friend of mine did hypnobirthing and said it was great. I'd love to give it a go just not sure where to go etc Confused. Confirming my place for NCT today, allowing myself to get a little bit excited about this baby arriving!

leelteloo · 18/04/2012 11:15

Ouch Rusulka, that sounds horrid. Awful to be poked in such a rough way; I hope seeing your little girl made the experience bearable.
Keep the good scan news coming Grin

Bakeroo · 18/04/2012 11:37

Rusulka congratulations on the news that you're having a little girl! That's wonderful. So sorry to hear you had a horrible experience, that's really not nice and it shouldn't be like that. Mine definitely hurt me and all that pressure left me with pains down low last night but they've gone this morning. It wasn't comfortable at all but I didn't feel like she was being reckless, although I did almost tell her to stop at one point.
Congratulations to everyone else with little girls on the way too! How exciting...
I too was interested in Hypnobirthing Loup23 but don't want to pay out for classes so I think I'm just going to read about it. I thought there would at least be some tips for breathing and deep relaxation that I could use. A friend of a friend put me off the classes slightly as she went to all of them, spent lots of money and when the time came, everything happened so quickly that it all went out of the window and she ended up with a c section! You just never know do you? I still think it's important to have a plan and some ideas of how to make it more bearable.
I think that now the scan is done and all is OK I'm going to let myself get a little more excited and plan for what to buy. I won't be buying anything yet as we don't have room (1 bedroom flat!) but I want to know what I am going to buy when I get there!
Oh and a little thing that someone told me to do if you want to find out the sex of your baby at your 20 week scan but don't want to be with the sonographer, just ask her to write it down and put it in an envelope. That was you can go home or somewhere special and open it together. If we were going to find out that's what I would have done I think.

Sunflower101 · 18/04/2012 14:44

Hi everyone, it's been an age since I signed in here but have been reading the post on here and delighted for all those with exciting scan news. Sorry Ruselska you had a bad experience, sound like a nightmare for you.
I had scan yesterday, I'm 19 weeks rather than 20 weeks but as I'm away next week the appt was brought forward. However the scanographer could not take the heart measurements that she needed to due to the baby lying down on tummy. The heart is currently the size of an olive and she needed to see all 4 heart chambers which she could not see. I asked if it would help if I got up and jumped around a bit to get the baby to move but she said it would not do any good. she seemed to be rushing the appt as we were her last one of the day, we came away without any decent photos which is disappointing for our families and I now have to wait another two weeks or so to have another scan. Hoping for better pics next time we look at baby and he/she cooperates!
I have bought a pregnancy pillow, not dream genii one as I felt it was a bit expensive, awkward looking to use. Mine is a make called 'By Carla'whichI bought at local baby shop for £19.
Anyone thinking of going to the Baby Show at the NEC Birmingham next month? A couple of friends have told me its worth going to, and good bargains. Hoping to go with DH to get some things for baby, not bought anything yet!

twizzlestix · 18/04/2012 16:51

Great scan news all round then Grin Your little one is obviously lots more co-operative than mine Bakerloo mine refused to move at all but the sonographer was going to lunch after us and so only gave me 5 mins to jiggle her/walk her into another position! I 'm going back to complete 20wk scan on 30th.

Congrats rusulka on you little girl even if your sonographer was awful! I would have been Angry too. Did that area feel tender afterwards? I get pain from squeezy tights let alone been jabbed by that wand thingy!

loup we're confirming NCT this week too. Are you going to attend NHS ones too?

Anyone here considering a home birth? It's beginning to creep into my mind but we don't have room for a birthing pool. Any opinions or experiences?

Ju1es22 · 18/04/2012 17:42

Hey all

Scan went great chilled out baby one hand behind his/her head! Didn't open its legs to give a sneak peak oh well 5 more weeks till 4d sexing scan:-)

Were gonna start lookng at prams more seriously from now on been told if we want an i candy (quite like the strawberry) theyre pretty much out of stock until july! Weve also looked at joolz which look quite funky and uppababy any feedback on any of these brands? Were going to birmingham baby show taking sil and my mate should be fun:-)

How'd you get on oikopolis?

Xx

oikopolis · 18/04/2012 17:48

OMG! it looks like we're also having a girl!!! 75% sure apparently. is it just me or are there an awful lot of little girls expected in this group?

and my cervix is looking good. SO relieved. good luck to everyone else still waiting for their scan!

MakeTea I'm doing Hypnobabies, the American one. They have a home study course (big pack of CDs + book) which i've already started. i've found it pretty amazing just in terms of relaxation and keeping positive. if it helps for birth, that'll be great, but in my mind the relaxation alone is great for pregnancy so it's worth it to me even if i don't get to use it!

and they have resources for c-section, VBAC and twins as well as normal vaginal birth, which is nice too.

funchum8am · 18/04/2012 22:05

Sorry to hear about your horrid experience rusulka - I will try to be brave and protest if that kind of thing happens to me on May 3rd.

I am feeling a bit reluctant to make much of a birth plan as literally no one I know has been able to put theirs into practice (and we are talking about 14 births spread among 9 women here!) Several emergency sections after long labours, a couple of incredibly quick sneeze births (inc. my SIL who had spent lots of time and effort with my DB training for hypnobirthing) and a few prem emergencies!

On the other hand, maybe someone in my circle is due for a birth to go as planned so perhaps it is me that will get the "normal" birth...fingers crossed for all of us!
