Advice - my mother's back has packed up so can't cook dinner tonight and I have booked a local restaurant for the 9 (!) family members here. It will be Pirran's first outing beyond short walks in the sling!! We are terrified - any advice??

itsybitsy08 · 24/12/2011 16:11

Tinsel you will be fine, don't be terrified! I find if i am stressed/nervous, i tense up, especially when feeding. Sounds a bit daft, but if i take a deep breath and relax my back/shoulders i instantly feel better! Enjoy :)

aethelfleda · 24/12/2011 17:20

When you go to the restaurant, if you walk take baby in the buggy, you can put baby in it with a coat draped over the front and he may sleep. If you take the car, carry him in in the carseat and again he may sleep. Either way you have somewhere safe to put him that's not your lap. Try to position yourself at one end of the table so you have space for the buggy/carseat next to you.

Check your "baby bag" before you go to ensure you have 2 muslins, 4 nappies, baby wipes, nappy sacks, bot cream, 2 changes of clothes, a spare t shirt for you, (a dummy if you're using them) and anything else you are using frequently (breast pads/san towels.) You will be fine! You may well get lots of cooing from the waiters and comments about how old he is. No-one will mind if he makes some noise, if it's earsplitting just pop him in the sling and head outside for a quick walk around. Good luck!

kri5tycringle · 24/12/2011 19:02

congrats awch and figgy!

darcies how is sky doing?? i may have missed the post.
tmi... but i am having pelvic floor problems, i cant stop mid flow, and have only just been able to feel when i need to go... have bought a kegel8

seven we find dentinox really good, after a week of being on it, saul now brings (a little), wind up without even being winded. i cant remember if you are bf or ff... if ff we found dr browns bottles also help... as does a bath in the tummy tub!

jingle tmi i know, but out of curiosity what makes you think its a prolapse?

tinsel saul wont sleep unless we hold him, there was 1 night he self settled, but all in the day he needs to be cuddled. i was stressing over this as i didnt want him to become dependent on it, but now i dont really care, he must need the security!! Also do you have a baby carrier/sling? saul falls asleep without fail in this, so i took it on our 1st outing, just incase he cried, i could just go for a quick walk to settle him! you will be fine! x

Thanks everyone too... feeling a bit better than i have been,i have been making sure i do most of the feeds etc so i have lots of cuddles, and forcing myself out of the house!

KateKringle · 24/12/2011 19:03

Tinsel you may well have gone by now, but just to add to aethel's advice...order something you can eat one-handed. Baby is almost guaranteed to want to feed thee instant your food arrives Xmas Wink

Not sure my DD will be getting a visit from Father Christmas tonight. I know we should expect some 'challenging' behaviour now that DS has arrived, but it's making me dread when DH goes back to work and I have to cope on my own. She's excelled herself today, and has taken to grabbing big handfulls (sp?) of my hair and trying to rip it out of my head Xmas Sad

Grumbling over now. Have a great Christmas everyone

festivefiggy · 24/12/2011 19:37

Evening ladies

Not had much chance to post since last night when got home from hospital but wanted to say merry Christmas for tomorrow to you all.

Danny seems well he not a fan of sleeping on his back flat having to prop up his basket at a slight angle and the minute you pick him up he wants to sleep. When he is awake he is very alert but he has slept alot today and isn't waking or demanding feeds so bit worried about his feeding I'm having him weighed tomorrow morning before Xmas festivities commence at the inlaws. Think he's going onto the nipple and not getting enough cthough he will go on both now and my milk seems to be coming through so some good signs. Am absolutely besotted with him and can't believe it's been 2 days already.

He has his Xmas outfit for tomorrow will take some pictures soon and upload them so you can all meet him Grin

LittleMissHumbuggery · 24/12/2011 20:03

Kids in bed. Meat cooked, wrapped and in fridge. Veg and spuds prepped. Stuffing mixed and pigs beblanketed. Kids in bed and muttering to themselves while they read and wind down.

I have made a Brew and in about half an hour I'll start the wrapping and after that the construction of my son's main present.

All I want to do is go to sleep! >_<

I hope you all have a peaceful night and a wonderful family day tomorrow.

Merry Christmas x

Merry Christmas Ladies.

Sky & me get to go home tonight so we can be at home with Darcie, we have to come back at 11am so Sky can have her next set of IV anti biotics and hopefully her cultures would of come back and she can be fully discharged from SCBU Xmas Grin

Will have a proper read through and post when I have time over the festive period.

Xx

msbaublestwinkle · 24/12/2011 20:28

Merry Christmas everyone!

DD1 is miraculously asleep, Miri is bfing and sleeping on and off....DD2 is just about going off after a HUGE tiredness related tantrum. I will be immersing myself in a bar of Green and Black's Mayan Gold and watching Merlin shortly in the hope of retaining enough sanity to cope with tomorrow!

AnAirOfHope · 24/12/2011 20:39

Darcie - Glad you and sky get to go home for xmas, have a good one Smile

Air has just gone to bed after watching the Lion king for the first time - he didn't seem too impressed! He had a sleep this afternoon so late going to bed now. I need to wrap his gifts and put them out then its off to bed for me and Hope.

Air is very excited about Santa coming and has put out juice and a mini choclate yule log for him Grin

Mmmmcheese · 24/12/2011 20:40

I spent most of the day in bed after a night of DD grizzling. I think her swollen stomach was a big poo build up as she filled 2 nappies to the brim when I changed her in the night! Haven't done much else other than go to a Christingle service with DD which was fun.

DS still has some cpox blisters that haven't scabbed over so I think we will be spending the day apart tomorrow. Sad but we're resigned to it now. Hopefully they'll all be scabbed by boxing day and we can be together at last. DS been upset and crying for mummy today :(

darcies glad they have let you out in time for Christmas.

Happy Christmas to everyone for tomorrow! Hope you all enjoy baby or bump snuggles! X

aethelfleda · 24/12/2011 21:20

Merry Christmas everyone. Am sat in front of Les Dawson munching brandy snaps with a long tonic water. Dad here and has prepped the turkey for tomorrow. Cheers!

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 24/12/2011 22:12

So glad that we're all- more or less- in the festive spirit, and hope that everyone has a lovely day tomorrow, even given the various challenges of new motherhood and mad families interesting family dynamics. Part of me wants to ignore the phone so I can keep it all at arm's length for just one day...

It's just the three of us at home tomorrow, as family are too far away to visit, and we didn't want anyone else round tbh.

Will look forward to a walk round the block, the odd glass of champagne, and unwrapping presents with my OH and DS.

Merry Xmas to all Xmas Smile.

mopsytop · 25/12/2011 00:02

Hi all. Hope all in Christmas spirit. I'm exhausted. Just about to fall asleep this afternoon when midwife arrived. No sleep since this morning 8 am and mimimopsy won't settle. She wants to be fed, sucks a few minutes ( but quite hard) then sleeps but as soon as I put her down wakes and basks crying. She's been doin this for hours now. Our bed is high with feather quilt so totally unsuitable to co sleep. Afraid she'd smother/fall out. My husband wants to help but she just bawls crying unless she can go on the breast. On top of it have a severe headache bordering on migraine. Any suggestions? Help!

mopsytop · 25/12/2011 00:03

Bawls not basks! Stupid auto correct

WeWishYouAMerryKitmas5824 · 25/12/2011 00:07

Hi All,

Haven't had time to read all the recent posts, I am home from the hospital with my baby boy Sebastian. Born 23-12-2011 19:34 weighing 7lb 14oz.

Spontanious labour after my hind waters broke at 2300 on the 22nd. Stayed at home until about 9am then on to triage where they discovered I was already 7cm! Sadly the MW led birthing suite already full so on to the delivery suite. My BMI meant the duty consultant came to speak to me but only to say that usually they recommend continuous monitoring but in my case with no complications they were happy for the MW to stick with 15 min monitoring unless baby was distressed.

Baby did not get distressed at any point, I stuck to gas and air but just ran out of energy so ended up with a kiwi (ventous) delivery and a 2nd degree tear. We were discharged just before 1900 today, so home within 24 hours and in time for Xmas! Xmas Smile

LittleMissHumbuggery · 25/12/2011 00:36

Kitmas Enjoy Christmas:)

I am exhausted. I am too pregnant to be playing solo flat-pack wrangler. I did it though. Off for a quick nap then on with the wrapping >_

Hi all,

I have been watching this thread for a month now and not yet posted but I want to thank you all for giving all your advice and info it's been really helpful!

I would like to congratulate all the new mums and sympathise with those still with bumps!

I am due on the 27th December with dc2 but for the last 4 days I have had cramps across the middle and top of my bump. I have no diarrhoea or vomitting and does not feel like a stomach bug! Nothing makes it better. They just come and go throughout the day. I have had no signs of labour. I mentioned it to gp on thursday but she seemed totally uninterested! Was thinking of ringing hospital tomorrow for advice but wondered if any of you have experienced something similar! My dd was born at 38.5 by elcs as breech so this all new to me! Sorry for the first time me post!

Merry christmas to you all

LittleMissHumbuggery · 25/12/2011 01:36

It sounds like braxton hicks contractions to me. If there's no pattern to them and they're not intensifying I wouldn't worry too much. If they settle into a pattern or become too painful to bear then calling the on-call midwife can't hurt:)

Hope you have a lovely day, and welcome to the thread:) Help yourself to pompoms:o

Have decided am buying self a post xmas present of an ipad sat here on a ipod touch watching BF videos on you tube cant be good for my eyes.

Agreeing to go to PIL for Christmas seemed such a great idea yesterday but sitting here at this time of day for night feed making me think ah bugger it let's cry off and stay in pjs all day. If we had bought any food in I might have said sod. Ill admit it Scares to take him out for first time cleaning black tar nappies at home with all equipments a 2 man job already.

Def think he Is a nipple sucker they cracked already and it's only day 3 Sad but I shall try to overcome Grin he just never opens his mouth really wide and though his cheeks are full, bottom lip down, chin on tissue etc when he comes off nips are huge going to get help from the Xmas boob fairy (or the health visitor) whoever I see first Grin

LittleMissHumbuggery · 25/12/2011 03:43

I can't be the boob fairy figgy but I can offer a pompom shake?

Just off to fake being a man in red. Then I'm off to bed. Being 39 weeks has seriously elongated the time it usually takes me to get this stuff done!

Night all, have glorious days when you all awake :)

Thank you LMH will see how they go today!

Merry christmas everyone!

OiMistletoe · 25/12/2011 09:20

Merry Christmas everyone!!
My post-Xmas-present-elect is a video camera. Alistair's facial expressions are too sweet to not capture forever.
We're doing ok here. Nipple cracking has settled down now at 15 days, and he's feeding lots and regularly.
It's really tough finding bf friendly clothes that are also cs-scar friendly. I don't have anything that is subtle though, so may take a scarf or muslin today so I don't feel awkward/make anyone feel awkward and need to leave the party. I braved it out publicly yesterday in front of SIL's family. Shocked her DH, but the kids were ok. Her 2yr old grandson was transfixed ( bottlefed).
Oh well, better get up. May the mayhem commence! Have a wonderful day everyone! (I've expressed some milk to use later, just in case I try a few glasses of wine. :). )
Xxx

mopsytop · 25/12/2011 10:07

Oi how do you feed him the expressed milk? I tried pipette and cup yesterday and she wasn't impressed with either. Don't want to introduce a bottle yet until I feel we've truly mastered bf first. I'm actually finding it harder again than a cpl of days ago. She latches ok but gets uncomfy after a few sucks. It must be the positions I hold her in but I'm finding it v hard to find one that works for both of us. If I'm comfy she either doesn't stay on and twists her head as though uncomfy, or just falls asleep. If I'm uncomfy, leaning forward more, she's better but it hurts my back. Guess I really need to see a bf counsellor. Will ring or local one on Wednesday when she's back on but it feels like a long time away! Finally got some sleep last night but either me or my husband had to literally hold her all night or she'd bawl. Need to find a solution where we can co sleep somehow. Any advice? Can they sleep on you in a wrap while you sleep or is that dangerous?

Sorry for me me me post but was so tired last night and still am! I presume if I was bottle feeding wd have many of same issues re sleep (lack of and needing to co-sleep) but bf is hard hard hard! Going to keep at it though.

Anyway, hope you all have a wonderful day and that Santa has paid a visit!
