...and those of us left are doing a fair bit of bitching:o

I wonder if we could get a [pompoms] going on? Do we have the energy for a campaign?Wink

Right, come on! We're a third of the way through the month and Nickelbabe needs new recruits for her advent thread. Get squeezing:o

Yes ma'am miss LMH ma'am! Marking place!

Class quote from DP tonight in advance of my ELCS on Monday, said as he holds his plate out to me to take to the kitchen, "well, I'm going to be doing everything for you for the next ten days, so..."

Good thing I knew he was joking, sort of Xmas Wink!

aethelfleda · 10/12/2011 23:02

Energy? ahahahahah....er, not here!

All I want for Christmas is...

  1. a Brie sandwich
  2. the ability to brush my **dy teeth without gagging
  3. to be able to drink and ENJOY a mug of tea.

And that's me being good and only giving Santa a shortlist.

LittleMissHumbuggery · 10/12/2011 23:05

Ooooh, I'd've been tempted to bop him gently on the head with the plate! :o

Right, I'm off to bed as I just cannot be doing with functioning. Random braxton hicks and a tumble haven't made any dents in my state on not-readiness so I'm going to go eat worms sulk in bed. Mind you, with three weeks to go I shouldn't expect anythingWink

Have a good night everyone. I'll leave the pompoms on the coat hooks for anybody who fancies a go:o

aethel I'll settle for being able to stand up on the first time of trying >_

Yay LMH thanks for the new thread! And I second the [pompoms] idea Smile.

Here's hoping for a good night's sleep for one and all - hopefully no staggering through zombie-like in the early hours...

AReindeerCalledHorse · 10/12/2011 23:15

Congrats Oi!!

aethel, can I add to your list; getting through an hour episode of something without going to the toilet.
Yes to LittleMiss and standing up first time! I sound like Bully (from Bullseye) whenever I try moving.

I third [pompoms]!!
Cannot believe Christmas is only 15 days away!!

OiMistletoe · 10/12/2011 23:20

Marking my place, whilst doing some skin to skin to get his temp up.
The birth story:
Waters had broken in early hours of fri and was sent home. fri night went to bed at 9:30, and woke up at 11:30pm in incredible pain. Bump really sore, severe headache, diarrhoea, throwing up... We called hosp and went in.
Contractions weren't really happening, but they were worried ihad preeclampsia, so they wanted to use sinto (oxytocin?) inducement drip. They recommended epidural, and assured me that someone would do it soon. I made them promise.
Sinto started at 7am, epidural came at 2 pm! In between I had gas and air. Eventually I agreed to diamorphine as the pain was incredible.
I'm not sure that either gas and air or the diamorphine did much. Who knows?
at 5pm they decided that my 7cm was not enough progress, so strongly recommended cs.
The op was fine. I was a little scared.
At 18:10 GingerBaby was born!
His hair still looks wet, but looks dark ginge to me. He has lots of hair!
He was in a back to back position, and had been fighting and twisting to come out, so his skull is really pointed at the back. It'll settle, and his hair hides it. The cs was absolutely necessary.
When we got to the ward we immediately enjoyed skin to skin, and he latched straight away! Perfect.
He's really adorable. Grin
Goodnight. X

Welcome back to the thread, ARCH - you've been very quiet. How are you?

LittleMissHumbuggery, it was just an idle thought about the thread title, and far too last minute!

aethelfleda, I was making our M&S Christmas food offer this afternoon, and can you believe it: they had NO BRIE! Just some poxy plate of lots of different cheeses, rather than the ability to choose. They didn't have wine, either.

PludolphTheRedNosedReindeer · 10/12/2011 23:25

Oh! Missed your post, Oi! Wow, you are a hard woman, and your GingerBaby is a fighter. Have a lovely skin-to-skin sleep with him, and relax after your ordeal. Xmas Smile

Hohohomouse · 10/12/2011 23:46

oi congrats again and WELL DONE. Can I ask how the 5 hours were between the sino drip starting and the epi being delivered were?
I think you have done amazingly and glad Ginger baby is being an angel

LittleMissHumbuggery · 10/12/2011 23:47

I don't like brie

Oi You are a trooper. Huge soft pompommy cheers for you both:o

Now I am seriously going to bed this time. If I can get off the sofa. I have been beached here all night and I neeeeeeed a wee!

OP posts:
itsybitsy08 · 11/12/2011 00:01

Congrats Oi!!! Grin wow you sounded really brave, well done! Havant read through the messages on other thread yet (been a tad busy!) but congrats to anyone else who has popped over the last few days :)

My birth story: had a sweep on Thursday afternoon told only 1cm and head not engaged, probably see you next week. Wasn't happy with that and told dp he was going to have to man up and we did the deed! Nada happened. Dp went to work (nightshift) and I went to bed. Woke up at around 4am with period type cramps. Thought could this be start of something? Went in bath around 5.30 to distract myself from pains as dp would be home for just after 6am.
Started to think ow this really hurts and by time dp git home I was contracting strongly every few minutes. Straight to hospital at 7am and by the time midwife examined me I was 8cm. She went to get a birthing ball for me but she hadn't even left the room and I started to feel the urge to push! Ds arrived after a few pushes at 10 to 8 :) 8lb 4 oz, very lucky to have no tears or need for stitches. Got home today, he is feeding well (well he must be, he is producing a lot of poo!) and DD says mammy where did you get that baby he is so so so cute :)

Oh and oi I don't really think gas and air helps that much other than giving you something else to concentrate on. I must have been biting the mouthpiece so hard, my jaw is absoultley killing today!

fusam · 11/12/2011 03:29

Picking up the pom poms for the night shift.

Oi congratulations you, my dear, are a legend and can't wait to see pics of gingerbaby.

itsy what a lovely birth story, just saw your the pictures of your DD on your profile and she is so cute! Can't wait to see pictures of your DS.

Plu hows it going? Any progress?

I have decided that I want a squidgy baby and some pate for christmas, santa please I have been such a good girl . I know wishing for a decent night of actual sleep is too much to ask for so won't even try.

OiMistletoe · 11/12/2011 03:57

Thanks all. hoho, it was bloody hard work for me, the MW kept telling me what "corking" (ie strong) pains they were. I would insist on getting the epidural first. ( which I tried to no avail. Huge maternity unit, but only 1 anaesthetist in on saturdays. So she kept being dragged into em csections.
was a surprise. The epidural didn't hurt at all!! Had tiny local anaesthetic first.

msbaublestwinkle · 11/12/2011 07:19

congratulations oi I hope your recovery goes really smoothly, and that you and Gingerbaby had a good first night.

Birth story from me...

We got the DDs to sleep, then I called my Mum and doula round at about 8pm to keep me company as I had sent DP for a sleep. Contractions weren't getting any more exciting so the three of us cleaned the house! They went home at about 11, I got DP up.

At about 1.30 contractions got more intense (I probably started active labour then!) so we put the pool up and got my doula back. She settled her 4 mth old to sleep then her and DP took turns in holding my hands, joining in my singing and shoving hard on my back! At 2am we rang the midwives, who arrived at 3am to watch me have transition, where I decided vocally that I was not having a baby and wanted a wee.

Cx slowed down, and I started to feel pushy, so after spending ten minutes laughing at myself because I'm silly and I like pushing, I got out of the pool and faffed about with different positions until I decided to get back in the pool.

My waters went bang as soon as I tried pushing in the pool, then we had a few scary moments as the mws thought we had a cord prolapse. On flipping over so they could see better, it just turned out to be a squishy bit of head, so I roundly yelled at the mws for scaring me, then pushed Miranda out in two more pushes. Doula's baby woke up as Miri started to yell, she picked him up and brought him over to say hello. He thought it was funny!

I picked her up, she started rooting so I fed her and by the time her cord had stopped pulsing, I pushed again and delivered the placenta in the pool. Miri has been latched on constantly since (when she isn't shouting about farting!), we had our prosecco and woke the DDs. Both are delighted with their baby sister!

msbaublestwinkle · 11/12/2011 07:23

Let me see if I can link to the birth photos, no graphic ones of the birth, quite a lot of naked me!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 11/12/2011 08:21

Marking my place Smile

Birth stories are lovely, would be nice to share mine......when Snowball decides to arrive!

Tinselperion · 11/12/2011 08:43

Marking my place too. Managed to sleep through the night somehow Grin (though I know DH turned me back onto my left side a couple of times, which means I was snoring again, poor guy).

Wonderful reading your birth stories, itsy, oi and mrsb!! As for my own...still not a sniff of anything chez tinsel except the usual period aches, massive pressure, stabby pains etc etc which got my hopes up weeks ago and which I now know mean absolutely nothing!!

DarcieandSnowballsmum · 11/12/2011 09:08

Tinsel I feel exactly the same wrt stabby pains and now absolutely nowt Angry

DD is downstairs playing nicely watching Milkshake on 5. DP is getting the beef on for roast later and he's brought me breakfast in bed Smile poxy cold needs to sod off so Snowball can come and meet me us Grin

TheFirstNoelChinchilla · 11/12/2011 09:33

Oooh, lots of birth stories, lovely to wake up to.

Oi, I didn't want the first question to be 'is big Gingerbaby a big ginger baby'? but I'm so pleased that he read that bit of the script at least (I was convinced he was going to be 5lbs and blond, but there you go!). Hope to see him soon.
Sounds like you coped magnificently with what must have been a pretty exhausting and definitely painful experience. So glad he's latched, and hope your recovery is swift and you get home soon.

Plu an absence of brie and wine on M&S website is not a matter for under the breath swearing, but for full-on "buggery fuck ARSE!' swearing. This is Not. On.

itsy, marvellous story and great picture(s), and delighted you had such a good home waterbirth MsB.

May waddle back off to bed for a bit- OH enjoyed his last late night and is still snoring like the sloblet he is curled up so might go and join him- see if junior will stop kicking seven bells out of me to allow though Xmas Smile.

festivefiggy · 11/12/2011 09:39

Just marking my place and another congrats to oi

I'm back to no twinges or discharge county so resigning self to more of a wait, tomorrow commences my actual maternity leave and week 3 of being off work it's becoming tedious now Sad

sevenswansaswimming · 11/12/2011 09:48

Great to hear all of the birth stories, msb your water birth sounds wonderful.

itsy glad you're home.

oi I agree gas and air is crap. Looking back now I'm glad I managed on just gas and air but it wasnt through choice. I very nearly swore at the MW when she said it was too late for pethidine.

DH went back to work yesterday and I'm pleased to say that me, DS and DD all made it through the day in one piece. I think I was just as exhausted as he was when he got home though.

mopsytop · 11/12/2011 09:58

Lovely birth stories itsy, oi and mrsb. I am not due for 2 more weeks but suspect I will be joining you sooner rather than later given the bp issues, induction next week methinks.

having lots and lots of crampy horrible pains the past few days but nothing regular. So I am guessing induction will happen before natural baby arrival ...

mmm brie. And comté, my favourite. Cannot wait. Bottle of champagne we were given in June has now been put in the fridge ready for after baby when I get home. Can't wait!

KateKringle · 11/12/2011 10:36

Lovely to hear all the birth stories Xmas Smile

Feeling very sorry for myself this morning. Woken feeling sick and with a splitting headache. DH has taken DD out to give me some peace and quiet and I'm hoping the paracetamol kick in soon, although they normally do nothing for my headaches. Toddlers can be surprisingly loud when you have a sore head! For once I'm hoping baby doesn't arrive today

Mmmmcheese · 11/12/2011 10:40

Congrats everyone who's popped and willing on the contractions for those who want them!

oi your experience sounds so similar to mine, although I did get the epidural first it only worked on one side until they redid it 6 hours later! I was also surprised that having the epidural put in didn't hurt and loved how relaxed it made me feel. How are you feeling after your section? I have found it more painful than I anticipated but am hoping that once I'm home I'll be more comfortable. Babybel's head returned to normal really quickly but she did look very deformed for 24 hours and it was a bit freaky!

I'd forgotten how much it can hurt when bfeeding makes your womb contract!

msbauble sounds like you had exavtly the birth you wanted - well done!
