Before the other thread bursts!
Thanks Miko for the title!

Mikocat · 19/11/2011 10:06

dreamingofanallotment - My doctor gave me ferrous sulphate supplements for my restless legs, it's worth discussing as it can be down to an iron deficiency.

Other people on here have suggested tonic water, so I have been having a glass in the evenings. I don't want to tempt fate too much by saying that it seems a lot better.

luckynumber11 - those are bloody brilliant odds for a woman our age, MUCH better than mine. Well done you!

We are planning on finding out, I'm already tired of calling the baby 'it' - it seems to disrespectful! :)

dreamingofanallotment · 19/11/2011 15:05

Thanks miko, will get some tonic water next time I'm at the supermarket. Will mention it to midwife at my 16 week check as I reckon I could well be anaemic. Have also read that bananas help cos of the potassium so going to try that tonight!

waitingforalittlelamb · 19/11/2011 16:33

Hello,
Please may I join you, I'm due on the 10th May with my first. Got my 20 week scan on the 22nd Dec, really excited!!!
Love the title, so glad the Sickness has stopped, anyone else feeling irrationally down?? Am winding DH up with my inability to explain my feelings, any suggestions??
:)

waitingforalittlelamb · 19/11/2011 16:51

musicalmrs oooh what a good description, I've been feeling weird vibrating ish goings on and thought I was probably getting a bit ahead of myself as I keep reading about 'fluttering' with little clue as to how that might feel!! Maybe it is baby I can feel :D

SirCharles · 19/11/2011 17:45

Excellent news on the "flutterings" ladies. Have had some strange sensations but think perhaps they are too close to my ribs to count as flutterings and must be something else.
Am going to arrange my flu jab on Monday. The end of last week was just too tiring. In fact called in sick on Thursday as am not sleeping and after nearly 2 months of this insomnia I am just too tired to cope!!

Am also suffering with ulcers/white spots on my tongue. Does anyone know what might be causing this?!

No suggestions for the hormonal moods. More sleep perhaps?!

waitingforalittlelamb · 19/11/2011 18:21

SirCharles I've always been told ulcers are stress related...maybe an excuse for a chill out??

Thanks for the idea of more sleep, not sure it would be physically possible though, been sleeping up to 12 hours a night.

BlueCrane · 19/11/2011 18:43

Evening all...

waiting I think that all the hormones flying around our bodies at the moment can cause all sorts of emotions to come and go...I seem to go up and down a lot...DH keeps moaning that he never knows from one day minute to the next how I'll be!

sircharles I've read that we're unfortunately more sucseptible to gum infections and other such delights when pregnant which is why they give us free dentist treatment...might be worth a visit in case they want to give you some nice mouthwash or something to help?

Think I may have overdone it slightly today...have wrapped loads of Christmas pressies (not just the ones to take to my brothers next week...got a bit carried away Blush), made two batches of soup, mini mince pies, a ginger cake and a lasagne...but I now ache all over and had wanted to do the ironing and sort out a big bag of clothes as well...but think the sofa and a DVD may be calling instead!! And possibly a cup of tea (yeah for being able to drink it again) and a couple several of the mini mince pies Smile

cairnterrier · 19/11/2011 21:16

waiting there's a simple solution but unfortunately it's around 10-12 months down the line from where you are now! DH has given up trying to second guess me now and just goes with the flow - which changes direction several times an hour!

So I've just had my evening snack which has consisted of 6 pickled onions and chocolate mousse and 2 pieces of burnt toast. You'd think I was pregnant or something Grin 'Twas all delicious though.

SirCharles · 20/11/2011 01:23

Oh Waiting I (day)dream of 12 hours sleep - damn this insomnia. I used to be an 8-10 hours a night girl! I hope the moods settle down but I suspect that the others comments on here are true so we will all be getting used to these unpredictable ups & downs. DPs had better hold onto their hats!

myweeangel · 20/11/2011 14:57

Hi girls,
Been swamped down with work for last couple of weeks so haven't been around much but just hoping everyone's doing well.
PLEASE HELP WITH THIS SERIOUS DILEMMA!
With lots of Christmas nights out coming up, any tips for drinks???
Water is boring, even the sparkling water, which I regularly resort to just out of habit when pregnant (often "in a wine glass please?"!!)
Don't like drinking coke/diet coke etc all night - too gaseous...
Pure orange/apple prob not - two gulps and it's gone and I still feel thirsty afterwards!
Not keen on soda water and lime either.
Any ideas very gratefully accepted. Want to feel like I'm partying as much as others...
I do like non-alco beer but not available everywhere.
Ta ladies... :)

cairnterrier · 20/11/2011 15:51

pineapple juice and soda water is a nice long drink and not too sweet. Are you avoiding alcohol altogether? Would a white wine spritzer be a option?

Appletise, ginger beer.

Ummmmm...........

LimeFlower · 20/11/2011 16:18

I'd go for fresh orange lemonade-slightly fizzy and not so "orangey"

Sooo jealous of your fluttering-I know that my time will eventually come but I don't even feel pregnant.

Restless legs-sometimes I don't know whether to sit down, stand up or do what???It's like an itch that doesn't exist but lingers somewhere.

MissingMalibu · 20/11/2011 17:11

I have the same issue with drinks, especially as to much fizzy stuff brings back the nausea. However, whilst I can stomach it, elderflower is lovely for something a little different. Also, depending to where you go, check to see what the virgin cocktails are like. Ironic as it may be....

waitingforalittlelamb · 20/11/2011 17:58

myweeangel Feeling your pain, I dont want to drink soft drinks unless I'm actually thirsty, I have been known to ask bar staff to make me a nice virgin cocktail. Or have you come across Fentimans branded drinks? really nice soft drinks :)

Thanks for all the suggestions, guess he's going to have to deal with it :D

BlueCrane · 20/11/2011 19:35

Been sick twice today and getting a bit fed up of the retching and continued nausea now...will be 13 weeks on Tuesday and was hoping it would be getting better by now :( in fact it has been worse in the last 10 days which is very frustrating!! Also work going to be v busy next week with lots of pressure so not really looking forward to it since still exhausted and nauseous...big deadline at the end of the week so can't even call in sick either!

On the drinks front I am enjoying ice cold diet coke in a way I have never done before, find orange and lemonade too sweet but orange and soda, apple and soda, lime and soda all ok and quite refreshing but not v exotic for a night out!

Re. The mood swings i think the DPs and DHs are just going to have to deal with it and cope!! They're not the ones with expanding tums, nausea and extreme tiredness to deal with so a bit of being considerate no matter the mood for their lovely ladies can't be too much to ask, surely?!

Wrigglebum · 20/11/2011 20:00

Lemon lime bitters is nice- lemonade, lime cordial, a dash of angostura bitters and lots of ice. Nicer than it sounds, anywhere should be able to do it and feels more sophisticated than just lemonade. Might have to get some lemonade in actually as could just fancy one now!

Sorry you're still feeling bad BlueCrane, it will pass in time.

Getting lots of movement now, another wriggly baby for me then!

dreamingofanallotment · 20/11/2011 20:47

I'm v jealous of all this baby wriggling going on - I can't wait until I feel something! 16 weeks tomorrow so hopefully it should be soon ish I think?

Hope your sickness eases soon BlueCrane.

I really want something fizzy after reading all these drink recommendations! Lemon lime bitters sounds good, as does pineapple juice and soda water.

I'm shattered this evening - we move house in 2 weeks time so I've spent the weekend madly packing boxes...Zzzzzz! I also have a kidney scan tomorrow (slightly raised reading of blood in my urine test for the midwife so they're just checking up everything's okay) that I'm trying not to think about. Think I'll watch the end of River Cottage Veg and then head for bed!

Oh and I have just finished reading a parenting book that I loved - would highly recommend! It's 'How Mothers Love: and How Relationships are Born' by Naomi Stadlen. Really interesting and she has quotes from mums that she knew which is useful. I've just started her other book - 'What Mothers Do: Especially When It Looks Like Nothing' and it seems just as interesting so far.

Hope everyone has had relaxing, peaceful weekends!

BlueCrane · 21/11/2011 09:24

wriggle you've just reminded me of another drink which is v nice...Rock Shandy where you put a spalsh of angostura bitters in a glass and swirl it around a bit then add ginger ale and lemonade (half and half of each) this is a v nice and refreshing drink that also feels a bit more special!

Having a very frustrating morning, v irritated with DH for a number of reasons but trying to stay calm as the stress makes me more likely to be sick...only dared eat half my breakfast fo fear of seeing it again too...oh the joys!! Roll on a few weeks time when I will hopefully feel a bit better and be able to start feeling beany fluttering around which will be nice!

dreaming hope your kidney scan goes well today and results all good...

Catch up later

dreamingofanallotment · 21/11/2011 09:40

Thanks BlueCrane - I'm just back from the hospital. All fine, sonographer could see nothing on my kidneys so thinks I'm just someone who has a tiny amount of blood in my urine all the time. We got to see baby again too which was lovely! The amount of detail we could see was amazing - spine, rib cage, 4 chambers of the heart, bladder, stomach...all very exciting! I'm even more excited about my 20 week scan now - only 3 weeks to go (I've got mine at 19+1 weeks)!

Good plan trying to stay calm BlueCrane - rise above it!

SESthebrave · 21/11/2011 10:22

dreaming - glad all well at the hospital this morning and how lovely to get another glimpse of your growing baby :)

BlueCrane - lovely to see you here :) Hoping your nausea starts to clear soon.

No definite movements here yet although a couple of odd sensations that have made me wonder. I didn't get loads of movements from DS as he was lying in a really awkward position so hoping I get to feel more this time.

Not been suffering with restless legs but my knees, thighs and buttocks have ached like nothing else for most of the last week. Also getting some very vivid dreams.

I have a few days off work this week (except for training course in Leamington Spa tomorrow and evening meeting on Wednesday Hmm ) . My car is being serviced today so chilling at home catching up on a few jobs.

BlueCrane · 21/11/2011 10:24

Glad all went well dreaming and great to see LO again and in so much detail!

Just chatted to DH and he is v stressed out at the moment, which combined to my being stressed out is not really helping matters this morning, so nothing really resolved! SO much to do at work, feel really nauseous and hungry but daren't eat anything in case I'm sick again, worried about DH and want to get that situation all sorted but since he works shifts I might not actually see him until tomorrow evening now so feeling all a bit down and tearful TBH...sorry for me me post...

Yorky · 21/11/2011 13:12

Glad the hospital went well Dreaming

Bluecrane - me posts are good, you need to get things off your chest, especially if its making you feel worse - tis what MN is for :)

and it distracted me from MY me post! DC2+3 were supposed to be going to stay with DS2s Godmum for a few days and DH was supposed to be on leave so we could have a bit of time to get the jobs done that you can't do with 3 under 5s either helping or asleep - like putting shelves in the cuobaord for spare bedding/towels which isn't an airing cupboard anymore cos we replaced the old hot water tank! It currently has a big random pile which gets less organised every time we dig through to try and find anything. BUt because DS1 was ill on Friday night and we thought iot might be a bug the others could catch they aren't away, and DH has too much on at work so cancelled his leave - have been in a foul mood most of the weekend about it :( DS1 is fine and at school as usual and I'm chasing DD with the potty!

Another one impatient for more movements here - have had a couple of flutters but mostly just enough to make me wonder, 17wks now so shouldn't be long, its probably moving more than I notice it to be fair, the current 3 distract me quite well during the day!

cupcakefairy · 21/11/2011 13:16

Ah bluecrane that's rubbish...very much know the feeling of being down and tearful I was like that pretty much every day of my pregnancy with ds. Hope you can get things sorted with dh...can you chat on the phone?

dreaming great news about the scan. I'm looking forward to the 20 week one too as it's so interesting seeing everything so clearly. But mie is on 20th Dec so I'm also really scared they'll find something wrong and it will make Christmas really :( very much hoping for good news.

I'm also v jealous of all the movements. I've only felt one tiny flutter I'm not even sure was the baby... am 14+5 so guess it's still quite early but come on baby!!

Met a teeny tiny baby (3 w.o) yesterday and her mum said she was loving life with 2, the birth was easier etc.. so that made me all happy and excited...I need to hear more stories like that!

BlueCrane · 21/11/2011 13:27

Thanks ladies, feeling a bit better as have managed to chat to DH and he has apologised for what was irritating me, and I apologised for getting so wound up about it all...we're both just shattered and life is just too hectic and busy at the moment, thankfully December is looking a bit quieter - unusually so, but I'm going to make sure it stays that way, I can't deal with another month as insane as this one has been!

yorky I feel your frustration as must be v difficult to get any DIY done with 3 LOs around...glad DS1 feeling better but annoying that you won't have got any of those jobs done!

cupcake my next scan will be at 19w, but not until 3rd Jan. Hopefully all will be fine for you on 20th Dec! I'm not sure it's ever easy to relax about it all though!

Not been very productive this morning but need to try and get some progress made this afternoon! And decide whether I can face going to a meeting tonight that could be a mission to get to with rush hour traffic Hmm

SESthebrave · 21/11/2011 13:50

Hello again! Managed to read back a bit and catch up!

Luckynumber11 & Mikocat - I had my letter come on Saturday and my odds are 1 in 1860. I will be 39yo by the time this little one comes so I guess that's ok and the letter did say that was "low risk".

SirCharles - oh yes, I need to arrange my flu jab. Thanks for the reminder!
Have your ulcers cleared up?

cairnterrier - I also had some pickled onions for a snack yesterday!

myweeangel - with DS I craved tomatoes and when out I sometimes had tomato juice with Worcestershire sauce. It was what my mum used to drink so I felt a bit middle-aged but hey, I guess a) I am and b) I liked it!

BlueCrane - glad you managed to have a chat with DH and things are a bit better as a result.

cupcakefairy - how nice to hear that positive story from your friend about DC2 :)

Yorky - sorry your plans were scuppered. Any chance of rescheduling?

On the drinks front, I just need to drink more fluids! I've never drunk very much - don't like tea or coffee and not keen on water so normally survive on diet coke! Am adding in warm ribena too at the moment to try and boost my intake and had soup for lunch today.
