Hello :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
musicalmrs · 11/11/2011 18:27

Do you have any medical issues that could affect you during pregnancy jen?

I've been given a consultant's appointment in early Dec for a back problem. They want to be completely sure they can give me a spinal/epidural if need be, so they want to talk it over with a consultant. There was also something else the midwife thought would probably be ok but just wanted to check, so my consultation could also be about that - which again, was just double checking. I think it depends on the area you're in, but it sounds like mine are overly cautious - not that I'm complaining! Maybe yours is the same? :)

Biscuitsandtea · 11/11/2011 18:32

Jen there could be any number of reason but I'm sure your mw will be able to shed some light on it, when she can return your call! I think when they do your booking in appt there are a number of things that might tick the CL box. So in my case either DS being 'prem' or the third degree tear / forceps would have triggered me to have to see the consultant (or at least one of their team) to assess if we needed to do anything different.

Can you remind me of your ttc / any previous dc history? Sorry, I should be able to remember but can't BlushBlush

jenfraggle · 11/11/2011 18:59

This will be DC1. As I joined the wonderful no brooking thread I conceived in my first full month trying.

Mum has diabetes and they said they would test me for that later on but I would have thought they would wait until the results before referring me for that as I may not get gd.

NinjaChipmunk · 11/11/2011 19:20

Bartlet what a lot of news to take on board. Sounds like you are in very good hands though. I hope the news on Tuesday is the very best it can be.
Biscuits glad to hear scan was good and bean is fine.
Jen no idea about the consultant I'm afraid.
Scream if you enjoy your job then go back. I got made redundant and part time is almost impossible to get in my line of work. I'd say maybe just be prepared that some of your feelings may change a little because of the massive hormonal flux you go through but there is no reason not to go back to what you love and have worked hard for. Just look at all part time options for you and your dh and all the different options for childcare to make it work.

Wants3 · 11/11/2011 19:57

My thoughts are with youbartlet
lovely newsbiscuits
so glad it is Friday but busy weekend and week ahead so no rest for me yet!
DS1told his friends about our little bean today at school- several classmates overheard bits of the conversation and thought he had got his girlfriend pregnant! Oops. I have willing babysitters lining up already!

jaggythistle · 11/11/2011 21:06

hugs and brooking for Tuesday Bartlet. :(

glad all looked ok biscuits.

Blush Blush sorry i have been away so much, I'm not ignoring you all, honest! have been lurking and trying to keep up, but not had time to post!

nothing to report, just feeling fatter but less sleepy and (fx) no more sick.

we will have an unidentified brooking bean too, unless DH somehow convinces me otherwise by 8th December!

TheLittleFriend · 11/11/2011 21:06

Just popping in quickly to give bartlett a huge hug. We'll all be here to offer you lots of virtual support xx

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 11/11/2011 22:51

Thanks for the reassurance on the work front. I've been at a work do tonight and managed to catch up with a pg mum who works part-time already, and she had loads of encouraging advice. Back to feeling more confident about the future, and even if everything does change in the end, it's still nice to feel like I have a plan for now!

Jaggy it's great to hear you're doing well! Also, I'm impressed with Wants' DC1 recruiting childcare so early on!

Jen is there a consultant referral form in your notes? My mw filled out a note aimed at letting the consultant know why she has referred me. (I've since completely lost this note, which I blame entirely on the fact that my mw doesn't bother to hole punch anything she puts into my maternity folder!) Personally I totally disagreed with my referral note anyway, and I'm planning to discuss that with the consultant next week, but if you have one it might help to identify the issue for you? If you don't have one I wonder how the consultant will even know what they're supposed to be assisting you with?!?!

ScrambledSmegs · 11/11/2011 22:56

Bartlet big hugs and will be brooking like mad for you on Tuesday. x

Imps7 · 12/11/2011 09:36

Just running in quickly to say that I'm thinking of you Bartlet.

BartletForAmerica · 12/11/2011 10:58

Thanks for the brooking and the hugs, everyone! :-)

I hadn't realised that scan photos at our hospital are now £5 each! They gave us 2 photos and didn't ask us to pay though, so you know, every cloud...

£5 though! Ouch.

dreamfeeder · 12/11/2011 12:23

bartlet, the photos are £2.50 each at our hospital, but I was so ill I hadn't remembered to buy the token for my 12 week scan, as it was twins they gave me a photo of each baby and one of them together and one of each again at my second when i was too busy worrying one wouldn't be there to have thought about photos!! They're lovely to look at. I'm glad you're enjoying your pics. Hope they have more to tell you on Tuesday.

Now, bump pics... I have been comparing a photo of me at 16 weeks last time to 17 weeks now! Very different.

jaggy, sad times I have officially weaned dd and stopped bf....

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/11/2011 12:31

Hi Bartlet nice to see you this morning. I hope you're feeling a little less stressed than yesterday, if possible. Focusing on Tuesday for you, I really hope the consultant finds some positive news in the next scan, and can offer you some reassurance.

I feel a bit bad mentioning this at such a difficult time for Bartlet, I hope you don't mind? I had my 16 week scan this morning though, and it was lovely to see the LO again. They couldn't really check on the fibroids or for any evidence of talipes at this point, altho the lady did say that both feet are pointing up at the correct 90 degree angle, which is a positive sign.

As for the gender, she thinks I was TOTALLY WRONG and it's a girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so happy and excited!! Clearly all my faith in my so-called intuition was way off base, and I have never been so happy to be wrong! Grin I'm so pleased, I'm grinning like a cheshire cat and DH keeps laughing at me. After weeks of no consensus on a boy's name, within ten minutes of coming out of this scan we had settled on a girl's name!

musicalmrs · 12/11/2011 12:43

Bartlet, they were £5 (for two) at our hospital too. We were prepared though - well, apart from the fact we only had a five pound note, and DH had to go find some coins...

Scream, congratulations! :D Another pink bean! Will you be telling people the name, or keeping it secret? We've decided to keep ours quiet - and also come up with a shortlist, rather than just one name (we're both too indecisive to decide on just one anyway, I think!). People keep asking us if we have any in mind, and we keep fobbing them off...

I'm off to a posh michelin star restaurant in London tonight - oooh! Not sure where precisely (it's the in-laws' treat) but worried that I won't be able to eat much - eek! Maybe I'll just have to starve myself this afternoon...!

pommedechocolat · 12/11/2011 12:59

Yay, another pink brooking bean! With dd1 I was convinced boy and was (obviously) wrong. With this one I was pretty sure it was another girl from about 10 weeks. What name are you thinking scream?? We're thinking maybe Abigail over here.

We have to give a donation at our hospital which is at our discretion. £5 per photo is extortionate!

musicalmrs · 12/11/2011 13:08

Actually - I say £5 for 2 - that's what was advertised, but we actually got 3 :) I guess it makes sense that they should cover their costs - but their costs to print out 2 photos would not be £5!

BartletForAmerica · 12/11/2011 13:09

Sounds like we have the most expensive ones then - they really are £5 each, but you do get 3 for £10. Bargain, eh?!

Scream, please don't feel bad about saying that. That's lovely news. I think we might find out after all with this one, although we didn't with DS. We have loads of girls names but if it is a boy, we have more of a problem as we can't agree on anything.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/11/2011 13:12

The scan pics cost £2 per photo for up to 3 photos at the hospital I'm with. I get loads more scan pics included as part of the overall price for the private scans though. The sonographer even flipped into 3D for a little while during our scan today for free. We could see her little face!

Love the sound of the posh restaurant tonight Musical yum yum yum. I'm with you on the not eating much though. I can't understand why but I'm full within about 3 mouthfuls these days, and have been since I started eating more normally again. Obviously as a result of this I've had to focus my eating habits on the unhealthy pizza end of the spectrum, to ensure the small quantity of food eaten doesn't result in any unexpected weight loss, ahem Blush

Pomme the name we love is Autumn. (Abigail is a beautiful name as well!) DH suggested it months ago and I just adore it. As a quick straw poll though, do any of you think that's an odd name for a baby born in Spring? Personally I don't care, and DH thinks I'm silly for even bringing it up, but I do wonder if it'll turn into something that people are constantly asking her about in the future?

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/11/2011 13:16

Oh and Musical we're not even intending to tell people in RL the gender let alone the name. I've already told my Mum, and DH will tell his brother, but outside of that we're probably going to tell people we don't know. Fortunately no one expects us to know before the 20 week scan anyway, so we don't have to start fobbing them off yet!

musicalmrs · 12/11/2011 13:29

Scream, that's a nice idea - about the gender I mean! DH really wants to know, and I don't think I could bear him knowing and me not - so I'm sure I'll find out - but finding out then keeping it quiet sounds like a great idea :) Plus 3D - Ooooo - how exciting! :D

The eating thing is very annoying! DH keeps serving up huge portions in the evening (he does most of the cooking - even though I love doing it - he's a bit of a control freak!), and keeps forgetting to make them smaller! Works ok during the school working day, as I eat bits of my lunch in between lessons, at break etc, but not sure about how it will cope in a restaurant. Starter and pudding maybe? (can't resist a good pudding!). Plus, clearly, if you're only eating small quantities, calories count. Cakes, ice cream etc all important!

Autumn is a gorgeous name! As is Abigail pomme! And Scream, no I don't think it's silly for a baby born in Spring :)

dreamfeeder · 12/11/2011 14:01

I love Autumn, and Abigail- abigail on our shortlist, along with esme, freya, charlotte- unfortunately, 'our' shortlist should really read 'my' shortlist. The only ones Dh vaguely agrees on are abigail and charlotte. Sebastian and Toby are the only names I like for boys so far that could go with our surname. Dh not sure on either but i intend on insisting!!!!

Also on small portions. When i go on laptop not phone I am going to post my bump picture I think...

dreamfeeder · 12/11/2011 14:03

scream i can't decide what to do, whether to tell people- including family- the genders or not... Family know we're finding out.- well, mine do.

TooImmature2BDumbledore · 12/11/2011 14:10

Scream, how exciting! Yay for pink beans! (Blue beans are also adorable, just in case anyone feels left out). Autumn is a lovely name. I am one of the people who would only use it for an autumn baby, but don't let me put you off. I like Summer, too. DH and I have settled (for the time being) on Sienna, but I may change my mind before the big day. I can't quite decide if it's a bit yah. I love Abby as a short for Abigail, Pomme.

Musical - Michelin star, yum yum! Come back and report on the food, please!

Bartlet, thinking of you.

ScreamIfYouWantToGoFaster · 12/11/2011 14:14

Ooooo Dream I love your shortlist! Unfortunately our surname, although quite short and simple, is a slightly "hard" sound and it's surprisingly difficult to match with first and second names.

To be honest I think it could be quite hard keeping the gender from people now that we've had the scan (I'm hopeless with secrets and the first 12 weeks was a nightmare!) but I'd really prefer to keep it quiet so I'll be doing my best and hopefully I'll get used to it.

Small portions is a good idea as well! Foolishly I've been sticking to 3 a day and just not eating very much! Must try for more frequent small portions.

jaggythistle · 12/11/2011 14:44

I've just been eating any food that passes within reach Blush. i am going to be huuuuuuuuge. My insatiable hunger went away for a bit but seems to be back with a vengeance.

We've got a couple of girl's name possibilities, but DH likes none of my boy's name ideas. Last time around we agreed on one of each a couple of weeks before due date and stuck with it! DS seems to really suit his name, I guess we will do the same this time. Still don't want to find out again, hope DH gives up asking!

I think the hospital here asks for a donation, but i forgot to give one Blush. Must remember next time. I got 3 pics for free and wasn't asked for any money so forgot all about the wee sign I saw somewhere.

Am at work and need to go and make some effort, trying my best not to get left 2 pages behind as usual!

Aw Dream sorry you feel sad about stopping bf. Is DD ok about it? I was more bothered than DS I think, so I figured he was happy enough :) I still have to watch if I am wearing a vest or just my bra while getting ready - if he is sitting on my knee he occasionally gets the idea to have a rummage in 'Mummy's Milks'. This apears to be their official title. He has forgotten how to latch on though and just laughs. It's only once overy few weeks or so he remembers this.
