Betwee 8 and 12 weeks to go...and we're giving it all we've got!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
OiMissus · 10/10/2011 08:49

littlemiss In the past, they had smocks and baggy dungarees - who decided to update the maternity look so we're uncomfortable all the time? with maternity skinny jeans, and maternity tights? I want some bananarama dungarees and a red spotty hanky to tie around my head.

sevensevenseven · 10/10/2011 09:10

mopsy yes to finding it hard to bend, I have to sit down to put my boots on now and pause between each one.

cheaptrick glad your DS slept all night.

msbuggy sounds like a good baby-related day.

I had a dream last night that I came on here this morning and someone said their waters had broken, fingers crossed it doesn't happen.

Off to get dressed, do the hoovering and make a steak and kidney pudding, and hopefully find a use for our million tomatoes which have all turned red at the same time.

Cheeptrickortreat · 10/10/2011 09:37

I have maternity baggy denim dungarees Blush

They are great but i feel v. embarrassed going out in them - i just wear them in the house when i'm not going out Blush

LittleMissFlustered · 10/10/2011 09:43

Oi I have no maternity wear. Another of the side effects of being a lard-arse is that you can't get it. You just buy things that can be adapted. So I get things with elastic, empire line tops and hope for the best. I would love a pair of maternity jeans, but I'm on my third pregnancy and I have yet to find any that are actually any good. Gap in the market but I'm not a business person:)

msbuggywinkle · 10/10/2011 09:55

I'm living in my mothercare yoga pants...there is nothing more comfortable and they are passable for wearing out of the house (read, don't look too much like pjs!)

I can bend sometimes! It depends on what position she is in, she flips around a lot.

Off to sort that box now while the DDs are occupied with space hopper races up and down the living room!

Cheeptrickortreat · 10/10/2011 09:58

Bon Prix do maternity wear up to size 30.

OiMissus · 10/10/2011 10:01

mopsy - nice dress. :)
cheep - cool. I'd be the same about not going out in them - but then, I say that, and I'm gradually losing my vanity in favour of comfort. I get home from work and immediately change into my M&S "loungewear" - or pyjamas, they used to be called. I NEVER thought I'd be that person! (such a snob, I know).
littlemiss I now know why there are so many mums who go on dragons den. There are lots of gaps in the market for things we'd like. I think I'd make a killing if I opened up a maternity wear shop. It's rubbish that you can only get stuff online without being able to try stuff on. And it's terrible that if you want something half decent (i.e. office wear as opposed to linen or casual stripes) you have to pay a fortune. And none of the sizes are reliable! Another reason to be able to try stuff on!
I've been largely OK with baggy stuff, up to now, and larger sizes, but as I'm getting to the final stages, things are not covering me up the way they used to or getting uncomfy. But I'm not splashing out just for 8 weeks or so. I will make do!
And bending down is awful. DH helps tie shoelaces and zips up boots, I get out of breath trying!

Cheeptrickortreat · 10/10/2011 10:03

We are having a sticking morning here. I have given son a doddle pad, a glue stick and a box of foam shapes, coloured matchsticks and pompoms with sparkly bits in.

I'm going to make a coffee and do my course work, then Air is off to GP's this afternoon when i go to my course Grin

sevensevenseven · 10/10/2011 11:22

Sounds like everyone is having a productive morning, I had enough meat for 2 puddings so I've put one in the freezer, and enough pastry left for a jam tart.

hawthers · 10/10/2011 11:37

had my flu jab on saturday which completely wiped me out yestderday and i still feel a bit crap today. i'm figuring that it is all worth it though so that i don't actually get the flu, feel a million times worse and have it for over a week or so...

what is really bugging me at the moment is attempting to sleep on my left side, i thought you have to sleep on your left for better blood flow to the baby but i just can't get to sleep that way anymore so after being awake half the night i end up sleeping on my right on the basis that surely sleep on my right is better than no sleep but have i made this up? please tell me i can sleep on my right - i'm knackered!

in addition, is it normal for the bump to do massive movements that distort my entire tummy? DS was very small and early so didn't do any of this and now i'm wondering if this is normal?? its crazy and there are massive amounts of movement. i know you have to monitor the kicks etc and make sure that they are keeping ot the same pattern but is there such a thing as too much movement??

have finally purchased a chest of drawers for DS' new room so we can get all the baby stuff out and see what we have. think we really don't need anything at all apart from a new double pushchair.

apart from the chest of drawers i haven't got anything ready - perhaps i'm in denial??! DS couldn't come home for ages so think i'm just subconsciously assuming the same thing will happen with this one so what is the point of packing a hosp bag... hmm must really stop thinking like this and will be more positive in future although think i'll wait for next growth scan just to double check and start after that. having ordered the natal hypotherapy cd it is still in its shiny packaging sitting on the side winking at me - might do me more good to actually listen to it!

oh and i second the tens machine query - do we need to be doing that now??

Earwigwam · 10/10/2011 11:46

I bought a tens second hand off ebay as it was about the same price as hiring it once and I can sell it once I've had this baby (def our last!).

Glad some else isn't managing the hyno cd, I did mine once about two weeks ago and liked it but just don't seem to be getting round to it. I need to start thinking of any time where DS is at pre school as my maternity leave to relax etc as I keep running round doing jobs.

Oh and I was also wiped out by the flu jab, lasted two days.

sevensevenseven · 10/10/2011 11:49

hawthers those movements are completely normal, although a bit weird! I'm probably spending around half my time sleeping on my right, I know left is best but I can't always get comfy and I figured it's at least better than sleeping on my back.

No idea about tens machines but i know you can rent them from mothercare, might be worth looking on their website?

hawthers · 10/10/2011 12:01

thanks earwigwam and seven just trying to get my head around what is normal (seven pretty sure you get what i mean) as this baby is already bigger than DS was when he was born and i've only got 2 weeks until i'll be more pg than i've ever been. still managing ot have a little stress about what is normal for this stage - phew. god bless MN

fusam · 10/10/2011 12:03

I have always slept on my left or right, didn't even know that you weren't supposed to go on your right Confused. hawthers When is your next growth scan?

I second Ebay for tens machines, they seem to be a pretty good deal.

I have my 28 week midwife appt later on.

OiMissus · 10/10/2011 12:09

I sleep on my right - and then change to left - and then change back to right. And each time the baby gives me a good kicking to tell me to stop messing about. ...so I suppose it means that everything is OK.
Baby has been a right wriggler in the last few days.
Got a MW appt later so will ask if it's normal (weather/timings/...) - will also ask about tens.
I'm using the natal hypno when I go to bed. It's the only time I have, and sometimes it helps me sleep. Don't know if it's really going in or helping at all, but I'll carry on listening every night and see how I go.

figgygal · 10/10/2011 12:44

I had my 31 wk appointment this morning little blighter is head down and was kicking the midwife when she was doing her checks. Everything still seemingly ok even with me forgetting my notes having to rush home for them then not being able to park anywhere near leading to a stressy panic, run to the clinic and being late. At my hospital they will let me go to 40+12 apparently so if he doesnt want to come out on his own accord looks like i would be induced on 21st. I really want to not have to be there as xmas approaches due to the holiday staff shortage stories though she said to me that midwifery staffing levels are constrained all the time so xmas shouldnt really be any worse......hmm thanks for the reassurance there!!

Well i have now put on 2 stone which is scary i now weigh more than i have ever done in my entire life, kept thinking i wouldnt worry about it too much but now thinking obsessing about Operation Babyweight which shall be commencing after xmas is out of the way. Went out to eat i think 4 times last week in the end due to having visitors and to avoid having to cook before ante natal classes am sure that has a lot to do with it and the constipation i now have must be adding lbs im feeling so uncomfortable with bloating some of my maternity clothes now dont fit.

Flu jab this afternoon i am too busy at work to be knocked out by it for the next few days, fingers crossed it will be ok.

sevensevenseven · 10/10/2011 12:57

hawthers I know what you mean, although not to the same extent. My PE was only diagnosed two days before DS arrived and I felt fine, so I actually still had a 'normal' pregnancy. Getting past the time when DS arrived will be odd though, especially if we make it to the massively pregnant stage!

figgy glad the appointment went ok.

I really hope I don't go overdue, I really want this baby out by Christmas. If I went to 40+12 I'd still be pregnant for new year.

I've put on just over 1.5 stone, though it doesn't seem scary as I'm still a stone lighter than 6 months after I had DS.

hawthers · 10/10/2011 13:10

fusam next growth scan is on 24 oct when i'll be 31+4 the exact same gestation that DS was delivered at and also the day before his due date so that combo is certainly going to mess with my head me thinks - ah well (thanks for asking btw ).

am due on 22nd and desperately trying to think what christmas will be like this year. just can't quite get my head around being either massively pregnant or giving birth a few days before. or actually any of hte next 2 months. plus as i've had a caesarian with DS they have said they won't induce me so i guess that means an elcs. anoyone got any experience of when they'll do that? before teh due date (can't see why but it would mean that i hopefully wouldn't be in over christmas Sad), on the due date, or a week later?

i've put on just over 1.5 stone as well - now weigh more than my dad Hmm and approaching my DH's weight! Damn those skinny men in my family!

fusam · 10/10/2011 13:24

hawthers Easier said than done but please try to see if you can keep your mind on other things. I have been told that if I have a elcs it will be at 39 weeks, I think all trusts pretty much use this as a guide these days. They wouldn't induce but would let me go until 40+ 10 if I decided to go for a VBAC with an ELCS if this baby doesn't show by then, hope that helps.

I think if I chose an elcs 39 weeks will be christmas eve, so not really sure how it works during the hols. I am praying to any and all gods that I am not in hospital on Xmas day.

BeeMyBaby · 10/10/2011 13:26

I've put on and stone and a half - really worried that I'm just going to explode even more so in size over the next 8 weeks.

fusam · 10/10/2011 13:33

same I am on a 1.5 stone, I think it's normal. I figure I will be dropping at least 1 of that immediately at birth. Although I really can't see how it is possible for my stomach to get any bigger.

OiMissus · 10/10/2011 13:55

I've put on 1stone, 4lbs - not put on any weight in WEEKS - but much much bigger. like you fusam , can't imagine my tummy stretching much more!

Have put in an offer on Springfield house- at 15% less, they refused. am waiting for dh's approval to go back higher - still lower than what they want.
very exciting!!

msbuggywinkle · 10/10/2011 14:12

I've put on...3lbs. But I am still sick. I just have never put on more than 7lbs in a pregnancy, no idea why!
