Just realised it didn't post last line...I'm not advocating for its greatness but alongside paracetamol it does help. There is also a herbal migraine tablet called feverfew but I don't know if it is pg safe

SantaLucia · 29/10/2011 20:13

CopperLocs - I get bad headaches in pregnancy, not every day but when I get one it tends to last a few days and be really bad. I found that taking paracetamol with caffeine in helps a lot. I have bought some Headex that seem to do the trick. Because of the caffeine/paracetamol mix I try not to take them for more than 2 days at a time even though my GP says its fine.

Hope it works for you!

DH working all weekend (nights and all) so I'm off to gorge myself on X-Factor and Strictly. Have a good evening everybody.

Reallea · 29/10/2011 23:17

So my lovely weekend away in a nice hotel with DH and friends turned out not quite as lovely as planned... I've seen little more than the hotel room since I was an idiot and ate scallops for dinner Friday night so spent 9 hours being violently sick overnight. Then today I got worried as I couldn't feel any movement so had to go to the hospital to hear a heartbeat. Rather than go to a&e i just googled the phone number for the hospital and then got put thought to the pregnancy assessment unit who were simply wonderful and were really caring and not at all judgemental about how silly I'd been to eat scallops! Sadly i have missed all the lovely wondering round the town sightseeing and shopping with the other halves today but i did make it to dinner this evening which I was quite relieved about!

CopperLocs · 30/10/2011 08:59

Thank you SantaLucia, ILoveMyDragon and LilPud, I'm gonna try to get down to Boots today and see what I can find. Thankfully work up without a headache this morning but have a lovely sore throat to replace it!

Can't believe I'm now 19+5! Half way through! :o

Is anybody else having to wait past 20 weeks for their 20 week scan?

ILoveMyDragon · 30/10/2011 10:42

Always a happy day when no headache but :( to the sorethroat!

I had to wait till 21 weeks for mine and then the little love wouldn't cooperate so gotta go back and will be 22!!

ridiculously excited to be going to a signing by Tom Baker later!! I'm such a geek got my Dalek for him to sign! Can't wait to actually have a child so I can pretend its then not me interested!!

Ahh working hard on this lovely rainy sunday morning!

Hope everyone just about managed to get an few minutes extra sleep (those who are of course in the UK that is!)

CopperLocs · 30/10/2011 12:18

Mine is scheduled for 22 weeks! I didn't realise this until I got close to 20 weeks then realised my scan was 2 weeks later! Ah well, I have a midwife appt on Tuesday where I can have the heartbeat checked but I so can't wait to see my little Peanut on screen again! Also can't wait to find out whether its a boy peanut or a girl peanut lol!

Enjoy your signing dragon!

FlipFantasia · 30/10/2011 18:50

Evening ladies

reallea sorry to hear your weekend away has been so sick-y and stressful. What bad luck to get so sick but excellent that miniReallea is fine.

Copperlocs sympathies on the headaches - I don't suffer from them but one thought may be to get your eye sight checked? A colleague just found out her prescription needed updating after suffering from a series of unexplained headaches. Other than that, staying hydrated also helps!

MONIB I am Shock at your DH's behaviour! You poor thing, that would have upset me terribly. I hate hearing about parents who aren't "baby people" (Santa I understand preferring older children, especially as DS seems to get more and more interesting as he ages!), your comment about raising DS on your own for the first three years made me Angry and Sad. As Stuff said we're interested so please feel more than free to share every last detail of every twinge!

Dragon hope the signing went well! I got into Dr Who last year, when my nephew (6 at the time and a massive dr who fan!) visited from Ireland. DH was already into it but I always thought it was rubbish - how wrong I was! I really like it now, though haven't watched any of the older series or anything. Sorry to hear your DP is being a bit rubbish - others have given good advice about how different it is for men.

Cheese Grin at the good scan and at having a girl! Exciting times indeed!

Dorcas sorry to hear about the CTS - my sister had it in her second pregnancy and really recommends the wrist splints (she had it in both wrists too). Not long til you're back in the UK!

Big waves to everyone's I've not mentioned! Hope everyone's had good weekends Smile.

We had a great time in Bristol - I even drove home! I passed my test when 8.5 months with DS (reckon he only passed me as he was worried a fail might send me into labour!) and haven't done a huge amount of driving so this was quite an achievement for me. It's funny, I actually forget how easy motorway driving is as I'm so used to the stop/start nature of London traffic...

Anyway, my friend lent me her Ergo newborn insert so I got all emotional that we have our first "thing" for this bubs. DH then surprised me by buying this book so we can start the process of getting DS ready for his new sister/brother. Reading it made me even more emotional!

And we've got our 20 week scan tomorrow - excited but nervous.

19+2

DorcasGailen · 30/10/2011 20:34

Awww Flip thats really sweet of your DH. Hope you have a lovely time tomorrow, keep us posted! I also have a first item for bubs at last! I had a real go at DP last week (hormones, honest!) about him not buying anything for tha baby yet and he came home yesterday with this gorgeous hippo teddy that I had my eye on, i burst into tears (hormones again!)

21+1 Confused

buterflies · 31/10/2011 09:40

TO My other name is better

My ex partner, dad to DS1 were like that, he had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the scans and then because DS was in a awkward position and I had to walk around the hospital for a good 20 mins to try and move him, my ex wanted to go home!!
Some men are just idiots and don't get involved until baby is actually talking and "doing stuff" as he put it. It can be very lonely, try to involve friends and family instead and I really hope he starts showing an interest soon.

FlipFantasia · 31/10/2011 15:30

So scan went really well Smile. It was the same sonographer who did the anomaly scan with DS two years ago. All was fine and normal [relief], though the only "downside" was that the baby wasn't playing ball, photo-wise, so couldn't get a great profile shot [shallow]. The songrapher was great though and got a really cute shot of the feet, so we have the first footprints of this little baby! And we're still having a surprise too Wink.

Dorcas how cute about the hippo!

knitterati · 31/10/2011 18:35

Hi ladies, apologies for the silence from me - had a few lovely days away with DH in Berlin! Great babymoon!

I will do a proper post in a few days, in the meantime will just post a quickie from my phone:
MONIB : sorry to hear your DH isn't getting involved. Not really sure what to say other than that, we are interested & make sure you have plenty of family/friend support. Have you thought about who you want as a birth partner?

Dorcas glad you lurk on both threads - my baby brain is confusing them!! Hope the wrists are improving with rest & glad DH brought home a hippo! Grin .

We're yet to buy our first baby item...it was going to be a little Berlin Steiff bear, but we couldn't agree on which one we liked, apart from the ma-husive bear that DH is threatening to buy! Not very practical items, but figure we have time yet.

My week has been interesting to say the least! Will post more later this week, but lowlights include: gastric issues that have brought about piles, trapped wind (that I mistook for Braxton hicks, much to the amusement of DH when the wind-eze did the trick) and a bit of bleeding after DTD in Berlin (so much for the dirty weekend away). Gah! No-one told me, I'd spend 9 non glamorous months worrying & fretting! So I can't wait until Friday for the anomaly scan to get some reassurance. Hope bump is feeling photogenic on Friday morning after hearing all these great stories about shy babies not wanting to be seen!! Lovely though! My appt is super early, so hoping the baby will still be awake/nice & active for the sonographer.

Ok. Longer post than intended. Oops. Hope everyone is blooming?! Wink

CheeseandGherkins · 31/10/2011 20:08

Sorry for not keeping up! Had to go into hospital for baby to be checked today as I wasn't feeling much movement and was having tightenings and cramps. Thankfully everything was fine; they checked the heartbeat, my bp, urine, etc and then a dr checked my cervix which was closed. I was so worried though. Everyone there was lovely and nice and said I could go in whenever I wanted for reassurance and they really meant it.

I was told to rest and take it easy for a few days and hope that things will calm down for me, so they think that I've been doing too much and that was causing the tightenings. I'm definitely taking it seriously and have been doing not much since then! Brief trick or treating with the dcs but taking it easy other than that.

Have a doppler scan booked now for Nov 15th and then consultants again week or so after that, I think it's the consultant that will be doing the doppler though.

Hope everyone's having a good Halloween [hgrin]

FlipFantasia · 01/11/2011 08:47

Cheese gosh, how stressful for you. Really glad that everything's ok with miniCheese. Get those feet up and rest now lady!

Knitterati I love Berlin! We had a great visit there years ago and I still think it was one of the coolest cities we've visited. Know what you mean about the "glamour" of pregnancy. I also had a light bleed after dtd when pregnant with DS - total passion killer! On the bump photo front, a bit of coughing often helps (didn't with me but sonographer says it usually does the trick).

SantaLucia · 01/11/2011 13:14

How lovely to hear about all the first baby purchases. I've dug out my Bugaboo Bee to sell on Amazon so that I can buy a new buggy. It looks completely wrecked though - which makes me feel less extravagant about buying a new one but a bit worried about re-sale! Better get cleaning and checking it!

We had our 3rd attempt at the 20 week scan today and Hooray! All seems to be well with baby Santa. The consultant said she was really pleased with everything. She saw the kidneys really well and the bladder is bigger and all the measurements were exactly as they should be, including the fluid. We even saw the little one putting its fingers up to its mouth, swallowing and waving. Wow - such relief. It all feels a bit more real now.

Its lovely to hear your news too Cheese - keep resting!

Re: the sex of the baby - consultant had a look but couldn't get a good view. She thinks its a girl but can't say for definite. We are having a scan again at 28 weeks (not entirely sure why but not complaining!) so she will be able to confirm then we are on team pink or team blue!

Raella - I was planning a night out at my favourite local seafood restaurant for my birthday in a few weeks. DH had pointed out that shellfish etc may not be the best idea and I had told him off for being paranoid. After hearing your story I think maybe we'll go somewhere else!!!! Its not worth the worry. xxx

DorcasGailen · 01/11/2011 15:03

Santa that is fantastic news about the baby! Am really pleased for you. They seem to be keeping up with the other shy/awkward babies due in March!
Cheese Keep resting as much as you can!
knitterati I had similar when DTD the DP a few weeks ago which really freaked me out but no problems since! Excited for you for Friday!
There is absolutely no glamour to pregnancy is there? Drives me mad when you have celebs gushing on TV about how easy their pregnancy is, they never mention SPD/CTS/Piles/Vomitting/Gusset Gazing/Bleeding/Swollen ankles/Hormones/Worry etc etc!

CheeseandGherkins · 01/11/2011 15:16

Flip Yep, been resting and still doing so, beginning to get bored and antsy though!

santa that's excellent news about the baby! So pleased :o We saw her sucking her thumb at our scan, it's lovely seeing them doing things and moving about isn't it :)

dorca hope all is well :)

Reallea · 01/11/2011 15:20

Santa that's how I'd felt, like not eating them would be being paranoid, and my friend had a right 'I told you so' moment the next day because she really had asked me if I was sure when I ordered them! As it turns out it looks like it was a stomach bug that got me really bad as DS had been sick a couple of times the day before but had perked up, but when we got back from the weekend away my MIL had also been throwing up for several hours so it looks like I just caught that too and it affected me way worse than either of them. Just to be on the safe side I'm going to be really good about what I eat from now on, as it's really given me a scare. Anyway thats seriously good news on the baby and good luck finding out boy or girl next time! I am seeing my consultant next week so also hoping I get another scan and we may be able to find out too.

Cheese, really pleased to hear everything was ok for you too and definitely carry on putting your feet up.

Knitterati, pleased to hear that your weekend away was a success, although slightly jealous as ours was such a wash out!

ILoveMyDragon · 01/11/2011 15:21

Actually laughed out loud at miniCheese love it!!

So after 4 hours of queuing finally met Tom Baker who was lovely!!

So I've managed to wake up with a horrific sore throat and nasty hacking cough which I'm praying isn't the start of a chest infection :( so I'm havin a lovely lazy afternoon catchin up on all my TV and eating doritos!!!!

Loads of movement now and DH is obviously feeling very guilty and being exceptionally lovely! We shall see what happens thursday mornin for my next scan!!

Hope everyone is having a not too stressful Monday!

NotnOtter · 02/11/2011 00:17

Santa go on the FB page with bee if you like as i would love one...!

SantaLucia · 02/11/2011 14:06

NotnOtter - you are welcome to the Bee! The lock which holds the handle in place on one side is broken and needs to be replaced. Not sure how to do this - will be calling Bugaboo, but you are welcome to take it and try to get it fixed yourself. Its a red one with foot muff, rain cover etc. Not sure how it would travel from Scotland though...... Anyway, I'll post a picture of it. It would be bargain basement price as the only bits I could really sell on Ebay or Amazon would be the hood, seat cover and foot muff - hardly worth doing to be honest.

Dragon - I have had a terrible cold, sore throat and cough for over a week now. Caught it from my sister who now feels incredibly guilty that she gave it to a pregnant lady! Wishing I could take loads of meds but, hey ho!

FlipFantasia · 02/11/2011 16:07

Santa that is such great news about your scan! You must be massively relieved Smile

I've sorted out my maternity leave start date - 19 March, though I'll have holidays to take so my last day in the office will be 02 March. I've got all my stuff through from HR and just need to remember to sort out my MatB1 form. The countdown has officially begun!

Evening all

More great scan news from everyone, so pleased for you all. Less than a week for me now - cannot wait!!

Cooperlocs glad your headaches seem to have subsided - mine too yay. Of course it's been replaced by something else god knows how (cos I've been lazy taking things easy but feels like I've got groin strain. It never ends!

dorcas totally agree with you on the celebs they don't seem to have the same pregnancies as us normal folk.

cheese glad everything is ok, better to check than worry.

Dragon Tom Baker. I'm so jealous, he is the real Dr Who (tho also love David Tennant)

ILoveMyDragon · 03/11/2011 13:05

lilpud my age dictates I am a newbie to Dr who but dp is 14 yrs my senior and of tom baker era so weamages to download miraculously aquire the older ones starting at tom and I love them!

So scan take 2 went well all is looking good. No new pics bit of a muck up Ive not asked for any previous pics but was just given them so didn't think anything but didn't get any :( but I felt so crap I just wanted out and wasn't too bothered but as the day goes on its annoying me more. But I have a healthy bub which is the most important thing.

Sore throat has kinda gone coldy which gives me hope it won't go to my chest but I do feel a bit odd walking around without a coat when everyone else is freezing!

ILoveMyDragon · 03/11/2011 13:07

Oh dp came to scan which meant he had to get up at 7.45 on his day off which o think gave me more satisfaction then anything!

cravingyorkiebar · 04/11/2011 10:23

Hello,
I just wanted to say to say hello and introduce myself. I'm 20 weeks pregnant with first baby - scan this afternoon. I'm a long time lurker but now wish to be sociable! Smile
