I have no idea why that line read like that...I think what I was trying to say is that the fix is to redo the epidural but inserting blood from my arm instead which clots the hole...supposedly. Was a long worrying tiring night last night. Tonight will be worse as have booked this blood patch is booked for tomorrow

Anyone had it done before? It's called a blood patch?

I'm beside myself with worry about it as is doing an epi again (which caused problem in first place) there are the same risks of same damage..obviously the usual risks and risk of thongs like meningitis ...I know everything has risks but I just feel overwhelmed after everything (I will post my birth story on here but not yet it's not horrific BUT some details I'm yet to get my head round!) I don't want to make wrong decision, I don't want something to go wrong or develop something worse.

This has been the most unexpected week.

My little boy tho is so strong, fab at feeding and just blows me away each time I look at him.

Excuse me spelling and predictive text I am waving a White flag at accuracy at the moment.

Time for more cuddles with my boy who is the thing that keeps me going. Hubby has been brilliant as sometimes I can't even sit up or walk due to the pain, so he had a crash course in nappy changing and how far little boys can pee during changing time Grin luckily can breastfeed laying down so can keep my boy fed.

Congratulations hefner! Button I am jealous of your lying down feeding. Hannah will still only feed if i am sitting up! Thank goodness ds gets up late or I would be a total mess.

inbetweener · 26/07/2011 09:29

jimmy gosh you poor thing sounds like you have really been through it ! Ive never heard of a blood patch nor had an epidural so am a little clueless. Glad your DH is being a star and yummy to newborn cuddles. I hope today goes ok.

nicola crikey well done on a day out already !!! I took my 2 to the park on their bikes ysterday and thought I had done welll but the seaside with a newborn is pretty impressive Grin. It was lovely yesterday too !!

Not much to report from me really, Im 40+5 today Angry and last night had loads of braxton hicks. They were really uncomfy and after each one I had a lot of discharge that ran out of me when I stood. I phoned the MW and she said to come in and check it wasnt my waters.
Once I had got there I realised I had also started bleeding/spotting.
MW examined me and said waters havent broken and the blood is just "show". The wetness was excess discharge and show I suppose ??
So back home I went. MW said it could be something or nothing and I may still make my sweep appt on thursday !!!!!

Have slept for five hours and now have more spotting/bleeding ? Do you reckon things are going to happen ? Im not having any pain as such, just lots of BH's, lots of back ache and yukky wetness when I stand move around !
Aghhhhhhhhhh All this tooing and froing !! DH is supposed to be out tonight too

buttonmoon78 · 26/07/2011 11:06

Jimmy poor you. I've no idea what a blood patch is, but I'm sending positivity your way in buckets. Take care of you and your boy x

MW coming in a bit to weigh again. Seth is growing fast so I'm expecting another gain - he's almost out of the newborn sleepsuits as the sleeves are about 2cm above his wrists and his toes are def nearly at the end of the feet!

Again, a very unsettled pm but once I fed him about 11 he snuggled to sleep with me and woke at 3.30 and 7.30 so not bad at all. I expressed an oz this morning in the hope that if I give it to him this evening about 7pm he might settle a little better. Yeah, whatever!

Hope things get moving for you soon inbetweener!

Nic glad you had a nice day yesterday. DH has taken Fri-Mon off this w/e so we're heading to my folks for a long w/e. They live right on the coast so kids are very excited! I'm hoping for some good Welsh sunshine...

SelinaDoula · 26/07/2011 12:49

All well here, but no baby yet. Am 39+5, my DD was born at 38+4 so I feel overdue!
No real signs, some pressure and braxton hicks but no show.
Will just keep on waiting...
Congratualations to all tjose with their babies!
S x

ok typing one handed with a windy isla on my lap!

dh back at work went to coffee morning with some mummy friends who all cuddled isla and spoiled her with gorgeous pressies. boys played nicely an have gone to my friends for afternoon so quiet with just me ds1 and dd.

mw been weighed isla tiny gain which im pleased at as no loss in first week. im feeling great v much back to my old self everyone commenting on how well i look. think because im less drained not feeding and isla only waking once a night...so far!

jimmy thinking of you atm all sounds preety horrendous but glad you have your dh looking after you and ds sending you hugs xxx

hope everyone else has good afternoons and come on the rest of you july babies!!!

buttonmoon78 · 27/07/2011 08:37

Nic Seth has less problem with wind during the day, but during the evening he really struggles to bring it up and if anyone suggests he may turn colicky I shall bop them on the nose so I find evenings the worst time. I find a bath really seems to relax him though and often he can bring a burp up afterwards. It's very funny though as what doesn't come out the top end comes out all at once the bottom end - he sounds like a machine gun!

Another settled night here - 11pm and 3.30 so I can't complain at that. I can cope with tiring evenings if I'm at least getting some sleep in the nights!

Am trying to be brave today - mum is going home after lunch and DH is in London so will be in sole charge of 4 kids by this afternoon Confused

I will be back later though to say what his weight gain was - MW had a migraine yesterday so couldn't come, coming at lunchtime today...

nicolamumof3 · 27/07/2011 09:00

Hi button, sounds like our night, Isla went ot sleep downstairs in carrycot after her bath about 9ish then woke 11.30 and 3am. After 3am feed tho took ages to settle, was 4.30 i think, but then I didn't wake up til boys woke at 7.15 so not too bad. She's still asleep now! Loves her carrycot and very snuggly in it. I just worry she is too warm.

I am also solo today with all four. My friend had little two boys yesterday so was nice and gentle first day on my own tbh. DS1 is going out with my parents for day shopping so he gets a nice day out. Im just going to have a go with the flow kind of day and see what happens. Luckily feel up to date with everything here, so not having to worry about housework etc.

Hope it goes well today for you button Smile

buttonmoon78 · 27/07/2011 13:29

Well that's taken the wind out of my sails somewhat... static weight Sad Got to get some weight on by Fri or admission for medical review.

I'm gutted as we've been doig so well, or I thought so anyway.

This is exactly what I meant Nic. If I'd been brave enough to make the same decision as you I'd not be feeling like shit now. Am dreading telling dh as he'll see this as the beginning of the end and assume its going the same way as before Sad

nicolamumof3 · 27/07/2011 13:44

oh Button, sending you hugs. The bloody health professionals obsession with weight gain is dreadful imo. What does he weigh now and how many days old is he?

Isla's weight was the same (well gained 5g, but thats nothing!!) yesterday at 6 days old. I expect next week she may have gained a bit. I had to wake her this morning for feed at just before 10am. (so she'd gone 7hrs) Had lots of visitors this morning and a bit manic. She had 3oz at 10am so thought she wouldn't go 3hrs and I was right 12.30 looking for food, so did bottle but she's only had an ounze and now back sleeping in her cc. But doesn't faze me too much as I will just give her another feed when she wakes up, don't really clock watch too much and still def feed on demand even tho bottling. She's taking between 2-4oz every 3ish hours tho that this no given rule tbh!

You've been pleased with how the bf is going but now because of him being weighed you feel bad. I think if they are feeding regularly and are happy content, alert when awake etc then you are doing a good job. Nappies wet, pooing ok all good signs. The bloody obsession with weight gain just makes you feel guilty and that in turn makes feeding harder. Grrrr.

I don't think i've been brave in my decision at all. A little bit selfish if im honest, as I just couldn't have fed her when here on my own these boys are manic and non stop. But obviously many manage to bf with busier lives than me. But the decision I did make was to not feel guilty over my feeding choices and in turn I feel confident Im doing best for dd and the rest of my family.

Sorry to go on!! Grin

buttonmoon78 · 27/07/2011 16:42

The prob is my mw is lovely. She often disregards guidelines so I know if she's worried she's onto something.

11 days old: 4260 at birth, 3840 at day 5, 3920 at day 7 & 11.

I don't feel like I'm doing the best for anybody which makes me feel worse.

Twit · 27/07/2011 19:58

why so many weighings? BabyTwit has been weighed prob 4 times and he's 4 weeks.
Perhaps you need to wake him for feeds at least every couple of hours - even at night. I did this for the first few days what with slight jaundice etc and once he'd made his birthweight changed it to 3-4 hours (at night only although he didn't agree TBH Grin )
now he's on his own clock he tends to wake about every 4 hours ish at night .so once really with a 10ish and 6ish feed either side but feeds about every 2 hours all day, sometimes more sometimes less.

I second porridge too, very comforting and meant to be good for your milk too.

Have you read my thread on the BF/FF boards? Do because it might show you that the wobble you might be having about carrying on or not is normal. Every now and then my confidence gets knocked and I'm left wondering, am I doing the right thing?
Anyhoo please don't fret too much, however you feed him.

Oh and hi and congratulations to everyone

buttonmoon78 · 27/07/2011 22:21

He was weighed at day 5 as normal. If it had gone ok I think mw would've done one more before she discharged us. But because he lost it seems we're into a bit of a cycle. I guess the continuing jaundice is also playing a part.

Feeling a bit better tonight. I think the glass of wine and copious chocolate helped Smile

buttonmoon78 · 27/07/2011 22:22

Rather - because he lost so much...

cara2244 · 28/07/2011 00:58

I hope things improve button...I'm sure they will especially after such a good start.

Eglu · 28/07/2011 10:07

Hi all,

Button hope things get better for you.

Lily seems to be settling down a little now. She will allow me to put her down between feeds.

Last night she slept from 9pm until 2am, then didn't wake again until 6am. Two long stretches at night is unheard of, so I feel rather well rested. Apart from not sleeping too well because of back pain as I fell over yesterday getting out of the shower.

I'm feeling quite positive about bfing working this time.

SelinaDoula · 28/07/2011 10:47

Due date today, Getting more uncomfortable so dont thinkj it will be long.
Those of you that are struggling to bf, keep going, its hard at first, but so worthwhile in the end. Kellymom is a great site for info on everything bf related! S x

RunDMC · 28/07/2011 19:14

congrats to all of you who've had babies so far and commiserations to those still waiting.. think my little one is determined to be an August baby as I'm 40+4 here and not a twinge, ache, sign of anything happening so far.. head not engaged either so couldn't take up the midwife's offer of a sweep at my 40 week appointment so will see what the 41 wk one brings....

Induction booked for 40+12 so keeping my fingers crossed baby decides to get on his/her way before then....

not too fed up yet but can envisage I will be in a week's time !!

Eglu · 28/07/2011 20:47

Am feeling fabby this evening as my underwired maternity bra arrived and finally my boobs are where they should be. DH was shocked at my cleavage when he arrived home from work.

I also got my new bamboo washable breast pads in the post and they are good too. Grin

It's amazing how simple things make you happy.

nicolamumof3 · 28/07/2011 20:49

I can't wait to get some new undies, im still in my maternity bra's.

buttonmoon78 · 28/07/2011 21:12

Feeling low again tonight. DH arrived home. I think he's on a mission to 'save me from myself' and is seriously undermining my new positivity re bf. And I know he thinks he's doing it for all the right reasons but it's making me so low I'm on the point of giving up.

All we've done tonight is row Sad

Eglu · 28/07/2011 21:17

Button my DH having seen me fail at bfing twice decided I wasn't very good at it and when I was having baby blues told me to just give DD a bottle. He was also trying to help. He has since told me how well I'm doing as he realised that wasn't helpful.

I hope things are better for you tomorrow. I saw you other thread so at least you don't have the immediate worry of weighing.

nicolamumof3 · 28/07/2011 21:18

hugs button, its so blooming hard isn't it. Can't do right for doing wrong. Stick at it you will be so pleased you did.

Isla has slept pretty much all day, i've struggled to get her to wake to feed. so not sure what tonight will hold. She's had a bath, and only managed an oz of milk now in bed. She's in her cot tonight with a sleeping bag on. This newborn phase is going fast, i don't like it. Almost put her in an 'outfit' today but couldn't bring myself to. They seem more newborn to me in sleepsuits!!

Badgerwife · 29/07/2011 14:14

Soooo... Emilie Olivia was born on 23rd July at 4.47am weighing 3lb 10oz. She is absolutely gorgeous is doing really well. I'm a bit of a mess, hence not coming in to tell you the news earlier.

I lost the waters on the 21st at 2am and had contractions pretty much straight away but when I went in at 7pm when they were 3-4 minutes apart, my cervix hadn't dilated at all and she'd gone back to back so I was sent home with codeine and booked in for induction the next day at 10am. The induction worked but I was only given a small dose of pethidine to help relax me as they thought I was still pre-labour. By 7pm however I was begging for an epidural and was found to be 5cms. I have never been so grateful to an anaesthetist in my life.

But after nearly two days of not drinking or eating properly I was not well. Had to have ventouse and then forceps when that failed; I went into some sort of shock with infection and high blood pressure and felt absolutely awful for at least 6 hours after she was born, completely out of it.

Just getting energy back now to be able to cope with the feeding but is very hard work. She seems to be doing fine although a bit of a lazy latcher but I've got lots of milk so all the midwives tell me she's doing very well.
