38 weeks today...!! DH and his dad built the cot last night, put the cot top changer on, and then I realised....we have no change mat Shock Have just been to mothercare and remedied that! I had assumed all along that we'd use DS's as he's nearly 3 now, so when I got pg I figured he'd be out of nappies by the time baby arrived, but sadly its not to be. Thankfully the in-laws are here this week and being absolute superstars looking after the DCs so I can do things like pootle off to mothercare and tesco for last minute bits.
Baby has def dropped, and in the evenings I'm getting killer pains in the tops of my legs like the baby is hitting a nerve.
Last night I dreamt it was twins, a boy, then a girl a week later Hmm
I'm sure baby is not going to arrive until its due week, but i'm starting to feel more excited about baby than nervous about labour, which has to be a sign that mother nature is getting us ready :) Must remember to take more bump photos too.
Has anyone else pretty much run out of maternity clothes? Mine are either too tight, or the elastic has gone!
Sorry leilandri I'm terrible at music choices, I'm sure someone with some good ideas will be along soon!
yukana well done for having the chat with your DP's boss, and I'm sure it'll work out ok. Your recovery will be quicker with a natural birth and it will be especially good that you've not had surgery when you'll be looking after the baby while your DP is back at work, as you'll be able to lift and move things if you need to. I had killer SPD last time and it was of no consequence during the birth, and never gave me a moment's trouble afterwards, really hope it goes ok for you too (fwiw I laboured upright and delivered in the pool which helped, that's my plan again this time!)
I'm sure there's others I've missed here...LOL at the premature congrats card Grin

mrsV quick question has your midwife said its ok to have sweep with strep B, id read that they dont normally recommend it as could push the bacteria further up through the cervix? i hope it was you who has it im sure it was!!! i think ive read to much into it, i dont think ill mention that to the mw next week and see if she offers one but she did say that they are not supposed to do them until you are past your due date? Ive had loads in the past with both dc's and they never did anything anyway!

Cant believe you got a card what organized neighbours!!!
DP said about bkg to go on hol week before xmas so i have somthing to occupy my mind trying to find AI hotel that has rooms for 2 adults 3 kids!! any suggestions anyone for canary isles? x

RugbyWidow7 · 04/08/2011 16:43

Hi all - it's lovely to hear how everyone's getting on at this late stage.

I think I may have had a show...I woke up this morning with (TMI) brown discharge on pjs and continued a bit into the morning. Also had loose bowel movements. Not sure as I couldn't see a plug as such, just the discharge. Reading up as much as poss now but can't really tell. Have next mw app on Tues so will ask her then.

Spent the day at home today and it's been great! Being lazy generally, although I have baked some scones - we've got to keep our strength up right? Grin

Yukana · 04/08/2011 16:43

Really worried, DP won't reply to my text, or my calls. I know he's finished work, but it seems he really is absolutely furious with me and I'm starting to think he'll leave me for calling up his boss. He was planning on going out to a games shop tonight but I want him to talk to me. I don't know where things lie right now and I'm constantly worrying about it. I can't get it off of my mind.

I wish I had someone to turn to right now, my mother is here but I'm still terrified.

Firawla · 04/08/2011 17:12

yukana i hope he gets back to you soon, you really dont need that right now :(

mrsv lol @ the baby card, they are a bit quick to just presume you've had her aren't they!!

hopefully some more babies will all be here soon, especially rehune and whoever else is already gone overdue.

i am going in tomorrow, so hope they get on with the induction quickly and it doesn't all drag out too much. my mum is here to look after the boys, and just have to finalise my hospital bag tonight but i think i am pretty much ready, although still not really adjusted my mind to realise there will be another one here by the weekend! i think maybe reality does not hit home for me until he is actually here, but am a bit excited tho Grin

carrie you have reminded me i need to get a new changing mat too, think it would be nice for ds3 to have a fresh one rather than the one ds2 is using at the moment which is slightly worse for wear.. will maybe have to send my mum into mothercare tomorrow for it

MrsVidic · 04/08/2011 17:49

Hi all, Mw appt went well I'm 2cm dilated with bishop score of 8, cervix is flat and she did a bloody good sweep (I'm going from my dd when I had 2 the first didn't work and didn't hurt the second hurt and worked- well this one killed Wink)

Been getting cramps since so fingers crossed it's the beginning. She said she thinks I'll be soon and she could break my waters easy so I won't need inducing.

Never- they do only 1 sweep per week cause of gbs. So they try not to do too many internals.

Re birth music I would recommend 1 currant song, one favourite of both of you and perhaps your couple song? Ie first dance? I wish I had the time/ energy to do a birth cd what a great idea!

Anu3 · 04/08/2011 17:50

OK - im no good at the waiting game looks like!! Due date tomorrow and have no signs of bubba wanting to come out!!! Baby is 4/5th engaged as well and still nothing!!

MW says she'll do a sweep next tuesday if nothing has happened until then. Have any of you ever had a 'sweep'? Is it worth having one and does it help? It sounds very uncomfortable - any v-examination puts me off so hoping some of you could tell me what will happen in the sweep!

Had a another pregnancy massage today so feeling a lot less achy! Can hardly sleep though as its so uncomfortable!

RunDMC · 04/08/2011 18:42

Hi ladies, have been lurking these last few weeks between this forum and the July one... but as my due date has been and gone (24th July) so this little one is definitely going to be an August baby. Booked for induction tomorrow so vaguely hoping things kick off tonight but it's pretty unlikely - had my 41 week appointment last Monday and head was only 1/5 engaged - midwife did a sweep but no action and to be fair she did say the cervix wasn't very favourable..

just hoping that the cervix is now a bit more favourable and induction doesn't take days and days.. so any good/fast labour vibes this way tomorrow would be much appreciated please !

have been pretty relaxed and not too fed up as I worked until 39 weeks but the last couple of days have been getting more and more fed up.. just really want to meet my baby now :)

daisysair · 04/08/2011 18:48

had a useless and frustrating consultant's appt today (first time i met him, seen expert GP and MW before and he put all plans back up in the air and all based on access issues and assumptions not facts and knowledge! only took BP and urine sample too-no fetal heart monitoring/engaged head etc!!) phoned head of midwifery as was really anxious and birthing unit is going ahead-no thanks to said consultant/midwives at clinic today.

we're planning on Jack Johnson for caliming birthing music (but with some livelier stuff in case I need more rhythm to work with-not that you'll need that with ELCS leilandri)

am also pleased it's rained as kept waking soaked in sweat last night until it started! thought it might've been the start of things, but looks like tis just BH for now.

KLou111 · 04/08/2011 19:23

COME ON BABIES FFS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OP posts:
Firawla · 04/08/2011 20:43

anu sweeps are uncomfy but it can be worth a try just incase it helps, although if its your first baby its less likely to work than with subsequent ones? altho some peoples do work for their first. i had for my 1st and she was not even able to do it as she couldnt reach the cervix, and it hurt loads! so with my 2nd i decided not to bother with it, then with this one i have had one on monday and so far seems not to have had much effect although she was able to reach the cervix and sweep it, but i just thought worth a try incase it makes the induction easier for having done it..
i would say its prob worth a try, cant do any harm apart from the fact it is really uncomfy! but the one i had this week was not as bad as the previous one so maybe its worse if they cant reach and they are trying to root around to get to the cervix?!

rundmc good luck for 2moro! hopefully your induction wont take toooo long with you being quite overdue already

mrsv what else do they base the bishop score on? i think mine was only a score of 2, and was 1cm dilated. but i think the baby has engaged a bit more since, he was 3/5 on monday and bit lower now so maybe gone 4/5??

NHAN · 04/08/2011 21:08

Anu I had a sweep with my first and he was born almost exactly 24 hours later, 12 hour labour with absolutely no signs beforehand. I was a week overdue when they did it but i'm still pretty sure it worked.

Can anyone help please? sorry tmi but had a very small amount of bright red blood on the tissue after having (yet another) wee just now. I never had a show last time but expected mucus, brown discharge etc. Just wondering if this could be the start of a show? or if i should be concerned? I'm 39 weeks tomorrow. I would feel stupid asking a midwife or the ward as its only a tiny amount but just feel a bit unsettled by it/ Thank you.

Firawla · 04/08/2011 21:12

for bright red i would phone them just to be on the safe side?

NHAN · 04/08/2011 21:34

Thanks Firawla just phoned them. Thought they would laugh at me but they took notes down and said it could be the start of something. I'm not holding my breath but pleased they didn't just laugh at me and at least it feels like this baby will be out sometime soon!

majormoo · 04/08/2011 22:57

Nhan sounds like things are starting. a couple if my friends had bloody shows.

good luck with tomorrow's inductions. Mine with my DD was very quick so hope all goes well.

sweeps have never worked for me-just end up feeling despondent but everyone is different.
I am nearly a week overdue now as usual but my piles were so painful yesterday was glad not to go into labour. they have calmed down a bit now thank goodness

Yukana · 05/08/2011 03:55

Did laugh at Klou's outburst. Nhan Sounds promising, and I've managed to pluck up the courage to call the midwife ward to ask for advice a few times. Thankfully they didn't laugh either!

I'm kind of in shock. DP is furious with me, says he is so angry he can't feel anything else right now and needs a couple of days to decide whether he wants to be with me anymore or not. It's worrying me a lot, I can't believe it's happening and I feel really quite depressed. His job is apparently more important to him than both me and his baby. I don't think I can cope with the prospect of possibly being a single mother and losing the man I love dearly.

MrsVidic · 05/08/2011 05:19

So after lots of painful cramps yesterday- nothing Angry nothing Sad

yukana he probably just needs a bit of space to calm down- he may felt like you went over his head. I think jobs have a lot to do with self esteem and this could be it? Also the enormity of what is about to happen may be hitting him . He is being v unreasonable thou

MrsVidic · 05/08/2011 07:31

Just had my show- I literally cheered and dd came running in saying "good job mummy!"

KLou111 · 05/08/2011 09:35

yukana do sorry your dp feeling like that. Think its a bit over the top tbh and if it was me I'd tell him to grow the fuck up. He's about to have a baby, so what's he going to be like when the baby is here and you're attention is on the baby, is he going to sulk at that too. Yes what you did may have pissed him off but if he wasn't prepared to do it, you had to. Sort him out and give him a slap!! :)

OP posts:
JenniferYellowHatsRedLingerie · 05/08/2011 09:36

Have namechanged, FYI :)
Yukana I'm shocked at your DP. he's behaving like an arse. Agree with MrsV that it could be all the enormity of what's going to happen soon, plus it sounds like his pride has been dented, but he needs to man up and shut up and start supporting you. Men. FFS!!
MrsV I'm cheering too, yay!
Utterly nothing occurring here. I'm starting to get v depressed, I can't sit and do nothing for the next 3 weeks. I've been up since 3 as DH was v restless and it's too humid here; was just getting back off to sleep at 5 on the sofa and the cat started up wanting food. 2 of my friends were going to come down today but one of them has a 6 week old she's been up with all night so they can't come now - am v :( as I really wanted the company. I feel like crying (and I'm not one for tears). Rubbish.
Hope everyone's feeling better than I am :)

ohanotherone · 05/08/2011 09:48

Mrs. Vidic - sounds like things are moving now.....let us know.

I can have a sweep if I want next wednesday, are they worth it?????

MrsVidic · 05/08/2011 12:12

I've had a show this morning about a table spoons worth and it's been continuing all day- some twinges so I'm hopeful! I would recommend a sweep so you can tell how dilated you r, plus it prepares you for all the internals done in labour.

Teladi · 05/08/2011 12:42

Hope things continue to move long for you MrsV.

All this talk of shows and contractions etc is making me excited - I need to remember that I am still only 36+6... so chances are, no baby for quite a while yet!!

RugbyWidow7 · 05/08/2011 12:42

Well it sounds like a lot of us are having shows now! Exciting. I called the delivery suite this morning as the show that started and stopped yesterday still seems to be continuing - a bit. They said it's definitely a show and confirmed it could be anytime or up to another two weeks! The suspense would kill me if it was now!

I've just been to see a friend's new twins, who are so gorgeous! It made it all seem very real to think that the size they are now could be the size of my baby in my tummy! Wowzer. Hope it doesn't come out too big Wink

KLou111 · 05/08/2011 12:59

Well, had my show last Tuesday and still a big fat nothing!!! Doing my head in now. Have put my best knickers on today from our wedding, so am hoping baby might ruin them today lol!
