Congrats klou!! so pleased for you!! Enjoy cuddles with your beautiful little man. Can't wait to hear your birth story and see some piccies.

melly I thought period too but also confused as I thought you wouldn't have one when exclusively bf. Is it ad heavy as your normal period?

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 13/08/2011 13:53

No it's nothing like a normal period. It's light. Hmm

KLou111 · 13/08/2011 14:58

Right, still in hospital trying to pass the time so here's the story.
Contractions mildly started around 12.30, mw had said she couldn't do.sweep so.got.Dh to bang the.arse end off me, obviously worked as am hour later got stronger.
Phoned my mum, she said could be early labour, just monitor how regular and length. Phoned mw an hour later as still.coming so thought better fill her in.
Said to have paracetamol and bath and call her before 5pm. Went for walk round the woods, got back, had bath, still coming. Rang mw and she said she'd come see me, was there within minutes as town road.
Said was 1cm, latent phase and did a small sweep, had bulging waters which said she could've just popped but didn't.
Put tens on and she said monitor til early evening. By 9pm was in agony, so carried on til 10.45 til couldn't take anymore and Dh rang labour ward and they said come in.
Was 3cm at 11, went into bath for an hour, then went back to bed where I was given pethadine, only half dose as was 7cm!!
Promptly taken to labour ward where I carried on with gas and air til 3am and requested epi but too late. was examined again and was 9cm. Was kicking and screaming at this point!
At 3.30 gas was completely taken away as I said I needed to push, so they let me after a further examination where mw burst my waters.
Was totally knackered by now, was on my back, then all fours, then back again twice.
Finally pushed one last push where I just felt this relief sensation and out popped baby at 4.25 exactly.
I didn't want to look as wanted Dh to tell me the sex but he had his legs crossed so we all found out together!!
Placenta delivered after injection, quite odd sensation, then I was stitched up with 2 stitches.
Bubs got on the breast for 15mins Right, still in hospital trying to pass the time so here's the story.

Congrats Klou on your baby boy x

MadKatz · 13/08/2011 20:29

On Thursday night, DH said my bump is definitely 'going south' and I have felt really heavy since then. Today has been the worse day, a real constant stitch pain since lunch time, started down my left side, then in my groin area and now in the right side.
Does anyone know what this is? And should I be worried? Confused

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 13/08/2011 21:18

"got.Dh to bang the.arse end off me" :o love the wording Klou :o So I take it they had room for you then? That was lucky! Sounds like you did really well, I bet your parents and brothers can't wait to meet him! Those first nappies are lovely aren't they :o? Enjoy your babymoon!

I don't know Madkatz, maybe it's the baby moving down? That's all I can think it could be. But mention it to your MW just incase.

Just put some new pics up of Poppy, including one of her new pet :)

lizandlulu · 13/08/2011 21:19

well done klou doest sound too bad!! ouch on the stitches though!

madkatz i would assume that it would probably be something to do with how the baby is laid. on a nerve or something, but i dont really know

MadKatz · 13/08/2011 21:40

I did think it was probably the baby moving down but just didn't expect it to be this painful. Will keep an eye on it overnight and see how it is tomorrow.

Gorgeous pics of poppy Melly

KLou111 · 13/08/2011 22:42

I've just noticed the mish mash of my story!! Not sure what's gone on there!
Still bloody in hosp, peeved, was quiet last night but busy today so the peado couldn't get round us all, and went home leaving some of us not checked so couldn't go home. Ward quiet at the mo so hope can get some sleep.
Really wanted to go home, never been in hosp before. Dh was in bits leaving us which was really upsetting.
Mum and dad been though for a.couple of hours and are besotted!

Madkatz how far are you along now??

OP posts:
lizandlulu · 14/08/2011 09:45

will you be coming home this morning klou we had that problem first time round. had to wait for hours, ready to go but needed to be checked.

you can go and arrange for the check to be done at home, but i didnt think to mention that, sorrySad i have never known anyone do that though.

how was the first night?

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 14/08/2011 10:15

It's strange that is liz, coz when poppy was born they said we could wait till 6.30pm for the dr, or come back monday! Mind you, i think both labour ward and nettleham ward were busy that day. We left the hospital when she was 4 and a half hours old!

klou are you home yet? Hope you got some sleep last night although i bet if you did, it was the lightest kip you've ever had! You hear every single sniff and snuffle don't you?

Thank you madkatz, she is rather beautiful isn't she? [boast] what did you think to the elephant? :o
How are your pains today?

Iwish · 14/08/2011 12:03

klou the birth sounds like it went ok. Bet you are so happy and so proud. Have you decided on a name for definite? I bet it was awful for you and your DH when he had to come home. Hope you are all home together now.

melly your pics are fab. She is so gorgeous.

madkatz how are your pains today? I get all sorts of pains. It freaks you out doesn't it.

gruff how are you today?

Liz hope your argument with chris wasn't too bad. I wouldn't have thought there would have been an 8lb + baby in klou's bump either! I dread to know what my little man weighs when he gets here (gulp)

I cant be bothered doing anything today and really fancy a lazy day but my house is a mess and my cousin is supposed to be coming up. I need a cleaner! Watched another one of the Harry potter films on tv last night with DP and a packet of popcorn. Yum.

GruffaloMama · 14/08/2011 13:34

Klou Well done you!!!! Congratulations! So happy for you all! Sounds like you did really well - it is a relief when the baby finally appears, isn't it! Gotta go - will be back later, xxx

lizandlulu · 14/08/2011 15:32

melly poppy is so so cute!! hows the feeding? my violet is still messing about with the bottles, only having between 1 and 3 ounces about every 2 hours. she might go every 3 hours if we are out and about. i do hope she gets abit better soon

MadKatz · 14/08/2011 15:33

Hello Ladies,

Pains not as bad today, but am feeling very heavy and needing the loo a lot! Yes it does freak me out a bit Iwish as I worry the baby will come early and I'm only 32+4!!!

Finished shopping for my hospital bag today Smile The only thing I am unsure on is whether to buy a couple of bottles and a small tin of formula in case my milk doesn't come in straight away or we have problems. I'm dead set on breast feeding but a little worried it won't happen and don't want a starving baby, any advice?

Iwish · 14/08/2011 18:42

madkatz I worry the same too. Every little pain has you panicking. I always mention to my midwife if I'm too worried.

Wow have you got everything in your bag?? I've packed the babies bag and my bag consists on maternity pads, breast pads, toiletries and a dressing gown lol.
I've bought some bottles but only so that DP can feed him every now and again, just need a breast pump as I'm going to express but havnt bought any formula. I'm sure that if you can't breastfeed for any reason the hospital would have some bottles? Might be wrong tho.

lizandlulu · 14/08/2011 21:43

madkatz i really hope you find breastfeeding ok, but in case you do need it, i am sure the hospitals have bottles you can use. mine did and i think it pretty much standard practice, worth giving them a ring to find out tho, or ask next time you see midwife?
if you mean for at home, i noticed asda seel the exact sameready made bottles i used in hospital. they are expensive, its £14 odd for 12 bottles and the teats but less money than if oyu were to buy formula, bottles and steriliser. might be worht investing in a pack for home just to put your mind at rest that its there if you do need it.

i am going away racing overnight next weekend and i might get a pack to take to use rather than stressing out about kettle, sterilisers and all that when we will be in the horsebox in the middle of a field!

GruffaloMama · 15/08/2011 09:28

Hi all - as Liz says if there's a medical reason your baby needs formula whilst you're still in, the hospital will provide it. (DS had to have some as his blood sugar levels were low.)

I really wouldn't worry about having formula at home if you're keen to breasfeed - your baby will only need very small amounts of colostrum for the first 3-5 days, at which point your milk will come in (you will know, believe me!). And if you need/want formula after that you can always send DP out for some - even all night garages sell it. I had a couple of bottles and a breastpump to hand before DS arrived which was handy for expressing (though I didn't do that much until he was 10 weeks) but he was four months before I actually used any formula, and then it was only one bottle when I was ill with a bad cold. If you want any in the house I'd recommend the ready made stuff as Liz said. You can also get it in small cartons. If you buy a tub of formula it goes off in about a fortnight and if you're only using it as an occasional bottle then you'll waste a lot of money. And if you're not used to making up formula it's a lot easier to deal with the ready-made stuff.

MadKatz · 15/08/2011 09:45

Cool, thanks for that Ladies.

Well here's my bag list -

For DH ? Change of clothes, toiletries, camera, money, phone number list, car seat (in the car!)

Anyone any ideas on anything I've missed?

lizandlulu · 15/08/2011 12:19

have you got change for the car park?

GruffaloMama · 15/08/2011 13:28

I'd stick in a phone charger (I know you're often not supposed to use it but you can sometimes get away with it if you're not too obvious about it) and I took in a little battery-powered speaker that plugged into my IPOD. We used it during the first stage to distract me. Some places have CD players in the labour rooms so you can just take a couple of CDs with you instead. Your midwife should know.

MadKatz · 15/08/2011 15:22

Am slowly collecting some change together for the car park Grin
Charger's on the list and am hoping I will get away with it. Good idea re the speakers Gruffalo

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 15/08/2011 15:35

gruffalo she said charger lol!

madkatz i put 2 750ml evian bottles in the freezer a couple of weeks before my due date, they're really handy as they defrost slowly and stay lovely and cold! Normal bottles of water aren't much good after a while as you can finish it all quickly (which you can't do with ice!), and it goes warm after about 10 minutes of being in a delivery room, which are like ovens! I think you've just about thought of everything to be honest! Also what i did was write a list of who to ring, what to grab and where it was. And stuck it to the fridge :o

Poor poppy had her first jabs today, she screamed when they stuck the first needle in bless her :( but to make her feel a bit better i had 2 aswell, MMR vaccine, and contraceptive jab. About the bleeding, dr said it's probably nothing but if it doesn't stop in a week or so go back and they'll take swabs Hmm

Hope you're all doing ok klou!

liz hopefully violet stops messing with her food soon! Is she gaining weight ok? How is she at night now? The feedings going fine thanks. Although i wish someone had warned me just how messy BFing can be, poppy has an annoying habit of coming off mid flow and my milk squirts everywhere! Also the opposite boob to what she's feeding from tends to leak as you're feeding and it dribbles everywhere. It's bloody ridiculous!

Hope you're all ok everyone, sorry for long post!

GruffaloMama · 15/08/2011 17:23

Sorry - being dopey. Can't even blame sleep deprivation as DD is being really good!!!

Melly I'm having similar leaky issues - I don't really like wearing breastpads all the time either so I'm getting through a stupid amount of nighties/pjs. Sorry about Poppy - am dreading that.

lizandlulu · 15/08/2011 18:15

melly the pleasures of being a mum heyGrin

violet has been weighed today and she's gone from being 8lb 3 at birth to 9 lb 15 26 days later!!! so she must be getting what she needs. she was awake yesterday evening from 7pm to 12, then slept till 4.30. bottle, then back to sleep till 7, then back to sleep again. then she only woke for bottles and slept all day till half 3.
shes just had a bath and gone back to sleep! i do hope she doesnt keep me awake tonight too much.

madkatz think you have about got everything covered. i did buy a hand held fan, but it was warmer weather then so might not be as hot in the hospital.

melly do you have any kind of bedtime routine for poppy? i mean, do you put her in her room in the eveningas to signal that its night time? or just leave her with you?
i know violet is only 3 weeks old, but i am starting to think she might get the idea of night time if she was put in a dark room as at the moment we are keeping her in the living room with us till we go to bed. the lights and telly are on and it might make it easier in the long run if she was to go to 'bed'?
i cant remember when i started to put lulu to bed, cant bloody remember much about the first time round!
