So excited to read your in-depth birth story GV - just need to get kids off to bed first...

My mw pal has offered to give me a sweep tomorrow night - what should I do?
How would you feel about your pal doing this? I see her almost every day.

petitech · 30/05/2011 20:04

GV thanks for posting it's good to hear other people's experiences, Eleanor / Ellie lovely name!
I am still feeling sorry for myself and under the weather, slept for 3 hrs this afternoon and woke up feeling worse, I ache all over, headache, sniffly nose and sore throat. I'm hoping I can sleep it off tonight but if not I'll be heading to the docs tomorrow on the off chance I can get something. I have been really emotional all day, teary etc at the thought that if I'm this tired, achey and general rubbish now, how am I going to cope with going through labour - cue feelings of how rubbish I am etc
Fingers x'd a good sleep tonight sorts me out.

motherofsnortpigs · 30/05/2011 20:22

Lovely birth story GV It makes so much difference when people listen to you and treat you like an adult.

sasa TAKE THE SWEEP! I am sure you'll be wishing you did if you don't.....does that make any sense?

Congratulations stargirl Try to stay in your pyjamas for a few weeks and use the phrase, 'I'm afraid I can't do XYZ as I've just had major abdominal surgery' as often as possible.

For everyone stressing about people visiting after the birth. BE REALLY SELFISH! You never get back those precious first few hours/days/weeks. Do it exactly how you want to and dole out the apologies later if necessary :)

AGH - got to get through half term now.....

NoToast · 30/05/2011 20:23

We are a bunch of fed-up ladies!

Let me add my soggy helping of woe. MIL has finally noticed the new freezer and has CHUGGED ALL MY BLOODY ICE CREAM IN ONE GO.

As for the family/visiting dilemmas, I think it's time to be really selfish and do just what you want. Unless the said rellies are rich and are likely to give you or the the baby a big monetary present, in which case play nice!

Baby-come-out vibes to Sasa, Thorny and everyone else who wants to pop!

NurseSunshine · 30/05/2011 20:34

Wow GoodVibrations! Sounds like you had a really positive experience overall. Lovely name as well :)

NoToast · 30/05/2011 20:36

GV congratulations, thanks for posting your story. Eleanor is a lovely name.

Sasa your friend must see hundreds of lady parts in a year- just tell yourself she's a mechanic and popping your bonnet is all in a day's work to her...Grin And keep your eyes closed all the way through while repeating 'la la la, I'm in my happy place, nothing odd is happening'.

8rubberduckies · 30/05/2011 20:48

Thanks for your story GV - I loved reading it and you did fab Grin. Just goes to show what a difference it makes if you are empowered, treated like a human being and allowed to make your own informed decisions.

KaraStarbuckThrace · 30/05/2011 20:48

GV - thank you for sharing your story, wonderful you had such excellent care Smile Great choice of names, we all have excellent taste in names Smile

Nurse - nah I have convinced myself this baby ain't coming anytime soon. I am going on a MN meetup Wednesday morning where I will eat cake!

NurseSunshine · 30/05/2011 21:17

I'm sure a lack of heartburn is because the baby has moved further down therfore is a sign of impending babydom. So, I predict you shall go into labour directly after eating yummy MN cake on wednesday.
My heartburn, on the other hand, is only getting worse. I can just about look at cake but even comtemplating eating some is not an option :(

Sasa have the sweep! She won't mind cuz she's so used to lady parts and you can just go to your happy place and pretend it's not happening.

OP posts:
sasamaxx · 30/05/2011 21:24

Loving notoast and nurse's happy place finger in ears tactic for the sweep Grin

Liking the gaviscon theory - especially since my heartburn has got much better recently too

Joannezipan · 30/05/2011 22:08

Bonjour! Thanks for the story GV, it is good to see some real ones if you know what I mean.
petitech I hope you feel better in the morning hon. I am still hacking away with this awful cough. And I have to go into work tomorrow for a "hand over meeting", but it is the last day before maternity so i'm going to turn up with cakes, tidy my desk up, do the hand over meeting and then go home early.
hopefully I won't cough too much in the night. DH is making up the spare bed just in case though Hmm. It looks really nice in there with the cot and chest of draws though. Right I'm off to bed, hope anyone who wants to get things going has an eventful night! xx

Joannezipan · 30/05/2011 22:09

oh ps...Sasa take the sweep. She has a vested interest in making it as pleasant as possible for you!

milliemuffin · 31/05/2011 08:05

Grrr. Woken up in a really bad mood and DS is determined to wind me up even more. His new thing is if I tell DD off for doing something that she genuinely doesn't know is wrong cos she's only 18months old then DS goes and does exactly the same when he definitely knows it's wrong!

He's just 'growled' that he doesn't like me 'shouting all the time' but when he ignores the first 5 times I tell him something then it's to be expected.

I also have to tell him at least 10 times a day not to play on the curtains and this has ben going on for at least 6 months, you think he'd know by now but nope! Constantly trying to play hide and seek behind them and then they both end up running behind them. He's already snapped a bracket on my mum's curtains doing the same thing so you think he'd have learnt.

Also, DP has gone to an appointment this morning then he'll be in the office after lunch but he's forgotten his mobile and wallet!

Sorry, just need to vent :(

KaraStarbuckThrace · 31/05/2011 08:07

Millie - is your DS 3? Because he sounds exactly like mine!

Have mde another reward chart as fed up with arguing with him over brushing his teeth and never being able to cut his nails...

curiouselle · 31/05/2011 08:13

Good morning all, I hope the lack of early hours posts means people have managed to get some sleep! or were busy bringing a new life into the world?

goodvibrations thankyou for the detailed story, I know every birth will be different but as much knowledge wishful thinking as possible makes me feel better Grin

This is my first proper day off (apart from going in on the 6th) and it's a little odd!
going to put the kettle on, Brew girls?

curiouselle · 31/05/2011 08:16

sorry millie and kara takes me that long to type on phone I missed your posts! hope dc settle a little so you get to relax a little today!

Joannezipan · 31/05/2011 08:34

Last day today, last day today - Hooray! I'm taking them in cakes and infection - everybody's favourite workplace gifts! Evil :o ! Actually I have to admit i'm feeling so grim that I'm going to go in, tidy my desk, have my hand over meeting and then come home at lunch time. Lets just home I don't have a coughing fit while i'm driving to work shall we! See you all later, have a good day all.

oh p.s. Millie - naughty step!

jasmine51 · 31/05/2011 08:45

Morning all. Thanks for the story GV, its really helpful to hear about these real experiences.

Sorry to hear about all the reli probs/ coughs/ heartburns/ DC probs...seems like we are all entering a weird late pg stress zone. Well, I say late pg...dont forget some of us not due til end of June could have many weeks of this sh*t fun yet. Please dont start a post natal thread yet, not til we've all produced otherwise it will get real lonely for the later ones!

Got funeral today which is obviously not going to be fun, but actually I'm dreading facing the family more with the inevitable comments, questions and sympathies about my 'condition'. Mums bright idea is for all the grandchildren to walk behind the hearse/coffin...thanks for that Mum, at least it will be going slow I guess.

Curiouselle I'll have a cuppa if you're making...thanks

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 31/05/2011 09:00

I am going to have a good day today.

sasamaxx · 31/05/2011 09:02

Morning ladies.
Still nothing here - I'm now resigned to the fact that it will be another 3 weeks [winkl]
Will catch up on posts after swimming this morning Smile

milliemuffin · 31/05/2011 09:12

Kara - he'll be 4 in July.

Joanne - Unfortunately the naughty step causes more stress than good! He ends up mucking about, falls over, gets all the shoes out etc. I know he's bored so I'm trying to make allowances but I've explained that the sooner we're ready the sooner we can go to the park so it's in his interest to be good.

DP has popped home for his mobile so that's one less thing to worry about.

Anybody still squeezing? I've completely forgotten for the last week.

1-2-3 squeeze!

jasmine51 · 31/05/2011 09:12

Just puked fruit and yoghurt all over the kitchen wtf? I dont feel ill, no warning...where did that come from?

Thornykate · 31/05/2011 09:17

millie hope your day gets better as it goes on.

Joanne enjoy your last few hours at work! :) and enjoy the cakes too!

Jasmine all the best for the funeral I hope it passes as well as can be expected x

I can't remember if any ladies on here work in legal or police type stuff but if so pls can you take a look at this thread that I started here

It's nothing exciting just some damage to my car but its another thing that DP was supposed to be sorting out along with the tenant who hasnt paid rent for 3 months but that seems to be down to me now too. I seem to have so much responsibility within this relationship it's a wonder that he actually helped get me pregnant Confused !

Despite the above & DP making me feel v uncomfortable in my own home by sleeping on the couch, only going upstairs if I am downstairs etc, I am determined to rise above it & not waste anymore time feeling down. A friend called last nite & said that she will be available anytime to get the kids should I go into labour when DP is back at work so I feel better now.

Am getting ready to go into town & shop for DS1s birthday this thurs as it looks like that won't happen unless I go on my own & do it. But I am going to make the most of having time to myself & pop in somewhere for my toenails painting :)

Enjoy your day all :)

PS I think my better mood is due to friend reassuring me that whenever baby comes my other DSs will be ok so I have now given up on watching for labour signs, I am ignoring all aches & cramps & fully anticipating that I will be waiting until this time next week & starting induction in hosp on Tuesday 7th June :)

knackered76 · 31/05/2011 09:37

Morning all,

Thank you for your birth story GV. Sounds a whole lot more positive then the last time :) It does make a huge difference when you feel in control of the situation and are actually consulted on what's happening to you! Beautiful names as well :)

Joanne Enjoy your last day :)

Curiouselle I'll have one if you're making, far too lazy to make my own at the moment Wink

Millie Sorry you're having a stressful day already :( We are currently on the marble system in our house to stop my 2 from attacking/winding each other up (they are older though at 6 and 4). The best thing I found, when possible, was to remove myself so I could calm down. This has often led to me shutting myself in a room with my back to the door Blush!

Thorny Glad you're feeling calmer about it all. My constant worry is the other children as well when I go into labour, despite having people who have offered I still think when it's 2am did they really mean it?!?!?! Have fun having your toenails painted :)

Jasmine Hope today goes okay for you and you manage to cope with the family comments.

Louey I have a feeling you're being induced today or tomorrow (although could be making that up!). If you are then good luck and I hope it all goes well for you :)

Sasa Yep, I'm resigned to being pregnant for another few weeks yet as well. Not due until Saturday but the fact I will take the children back to school after half term possibly still pregnant means I am sure to stay this way just so I get to have all the comments about still being here Hmm!

Confessions I wish you luck on your quest for a good day!

Well, suppose I should get the children dressed (I love holidays!). We have friends over today so at least this one should go quickly. I have informed dh that tonight his duty of trying to get the baby out starts, whether he feels like it or not. Obviously have steered away from the Shock information Grin

Happy Tuesday!

BarbieLovesKen · 31/05/2011 09:55

Just a quick one to say 8 am thinking of you today and am really hoping baby has turned and you won't get kept in.

Will catch up properly later when I snap out of my mood

40 & 3 today
