Louey Congratulations Grin Fab that it was so calm for you and clever Oscar has avoided SCBU :) oh and I love the name Oscar! Now you need to take huge care of you (with others helping of course!) while you recover :)

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 14:15

TTL - glad you enjoyed the concert!

Moomin - what a little star, she is doing fab!

Louey congrats, that is a great weight! Have they said how long they expect you to be in for?

Just waiting for news from Gillz now.

Must confess I have been to the hospital, was getting a little worried as not much movement yesterday and none today so rang up and they asked me.
Everything is fine, the little monkey decided to kick me lots in the waiting room Hmm
Checked all my vitals and monitored heartbeat as well. Felt a bit Blush but the staff were very understanding especially when I mentioned about "count the kicks" and assured me less than normal level of movements should always be investigated.
MW who did my notes was very Grin at me having a home birth and wished me luck, which I thought was lovely!!

loueytb3 · 02/06/2011 14:46

Thanks guys Smile. Not sure we are out of the woods re SCBU yet. His blood sugar is too low despite having had some EBM from me. We've had to give him some formula to get his blood sugar up. He's also having trouble regulating his temperature so he's now under a hot lamp. Paeds coming to see him again soon.

moomin156 · 02/06/2011 14:55

louey please dont worry if he needs to go into scbu.....i expect he just needs a hot cot for a couple of days and might even be well enough to go straight into the nursery part. If he does go make sure you get skin to skin ( kangaroo care), you will have 24hr access and the nurses will wheel you there when ever you want to if your DH isnt with you. Thinking of you........

As a little note when you get home with him make sure you have a thermometer to monitor his temp.....we really struggled to keep Flos temp as we thought it was hot and she wasnt so needed lots of blankets and the heating on. Gets better as they get some fat on them

Gillzz · 02/06/2011 15:12

Ooohhhh congratulations Louey!!!

You are so naughty Gillz - have a delish pizza and hope that pessary starts working soon for you.

NurseSunshine · 02/06/2011 16:03

Congratulations Louey :) Glad the cs went well and fingers crossed Oscar stays nice and warm and doesn't have to go to SCBU.

Well done on the 9oz Moomin, just shows how much you're doing for little Flo, even if it's exhausting at times, it's worth it!

Gillz Good luck! Maybe if your waters go in Pizza Hut they will give the baby free pizzas for life or something? Worth a try anyway Grin Hope it goes really well for you, can't wait to hear your news.

Wonder how Clarkiee is? And I don't think we've heard from Mummynumber2 for a while have we?

I cannot believe how many eager little babies we've got! 13 so far and Eleanor is the only one who came after her actual due date!

Congratulations on the new arrival Louey - Oscar was my first choice boy's name but DP won't have it :-(

Has anyone else experienced being stuck in/out of their car? I went shopping today and when I came back to the car someone had parked so close to the driver's door the bump wouldn't fit back through the gap! Luckily the otherside was clear so I was able to clamber accross the passenger seat but it wsn't hugely comfortable...

NurseSunshine · 02/06/2011 18:15

I had the same problem when out with my mum Magpie, she had to back out of the space before I could squeeze in! Not long to go before we get rid of these bumps and are feeling positively sylph-like Grin

KaraStarbuckThrace · 02/06/2011 18:33

Oh no Magpie!!

Can't believe how many babies have been born already, and it is only the 2nd June!!

Thornykate · 02/06/2011 18:37

Congratulations & well done louey & welcome to little Oscar :)

Apologies in advance for not responding to posts but am just popping on to ask advice until I get chance to catch up properly later....

Pls dont read the rest if you are eating &/ or squeamish...Am 41 wks today & have been for sweep, MW warned me I might bleed & I have had a bit of dark spotting but 5 hrs later I felt a small gush & have lost some dark brown blood (about 1/4 tsp) the same amount of fresher blood & a couple of tsp liquid which looks pink but is on the pad so may be discoloured from the dark blood loss IYSWIM? Had no loss at all with sweep (16yr ago yesterday!) with DS1 & never had waters break naturally so would welcome any info. Am not worried but if waters have gone at all I think I need to let hosp know due to the GBS.

Thanks in advance & hope everyone ok

79monica · 02/06/2011 18:44

MagpieC I had that problem in the hospital car park when going to my antenatal class. When I tried to re-position the car, I managed to get even closer to the column that was blocking me almost pull my wing mirror off - I don't think that I could put that bit down to pregnancy, that was just my rubbish parking skills! Blush

Louey Ethan had to be in an incubator for the first couple of days before being moved onto a heated cot and then finally a normal cot so I can sympathise. Luckily he was able to stay with me all of the time. I found it very confusing though because everything that I had to do was the opposite to the usual advice, for example I had to put a hat on him all of the time when in the heated cot even though everything I had read said that you must never do that because of the risk of babies overheating leading to SIDS.

The breakthrough for us was when I started feeding Ethan expressed breast milk with a teat (had previously been trying breast feeding which didn't work because he didn't have enough energy to suck for long enough and also feeding EBM with a pipette which was really slow and so meant that I got to the end of each feed and it was time to start the next so I was exhausted). The MWs had been avoiding that option until a week in because they didn't want him to get nipple / teat confusion but we decided at that point that the most important thing was to get him to put some weight on. Since then, he has found feeding easier and is now taking between 35ml and 40ml at least per feed 8 times a day. I also found it more reassuring being able to know for sure how much he was taking in which I couldn't do with breast feeding. Within a day of starting that he had enough energy to keep himself warm and was able to move to a normal cot.

moomin156 · 02/06/2011 18:57

nurse hate to tell you there is no sylph-like figure here. have been out and bought bigger clothes. feel fat and wobbly and i only got to 29weeks!!
Loved my pg figure, hate the post natal one at the minute. huge boobs and wobble :(

jasmine51 · 02/06/2011 18:57

Well done Louey - glad everything is calm and your LO is getting some great care

Gillz how did you get on? Not with the pizza, I mean the induction!

Does anyone know how to stop me pooing? Lol...careful what you wish for ladies, theres been no stopping me today!!

No other news from me I'm afraid. Have spent the day trying to stare out the weeds in the garden because bending down to pull them out is just too hard. Mother perhaps I could borrow the snortpigs, they seemed quite good at pulling things up in your garden yesterday..just a bit of training and they could be an efficient little troop of weeders!

Good luck to anyone who experiences any excitement tonight x

moomin156 · 02/06/2011 19:00

jasmine better out than in at this stage i would say.....sorry

jasmine51 · 02/06/2011 19:15

moomin completely agree...now if you can just get LO to follow as efficiently I would be grateful!

NurseSunshine · 02/06/2011 19:16

Shhh Moomin!

hard bump pretty much constantly at the moment, is that normal, not sure if i've eaten too much, if it's braxton hicks or start of something else, i wouldnt say it exactly hurts more that it is v uncomfortable. What do you think oh wise ones?! x

NurseSunshine · 02/06/2011 19:45

Sounds like BHs to me, or at least I'm getting the same and that's what I'm putting mine down to :)

OP posts:
knackered76 · 02/06/2011 20:15

Thorny I would call the hospital and tell them. I've not had my waters break except during labour so don't know but reckon it's got to be worth a call. Fingers crossed it's the beginning of something for you :)

Jasmine No need to show off now Grin

I'm not even over due and I've already had 3 people text to find out if anything's happening. I suspect there's plenty more where they came from!

knackered76 · 02/06/2011 20:18

Kara forgot to say glad all is okay. I've been in twice for monitoring due to reduced movement, both times the baby has woken up and wiggled like mad when on the monitor :) Midwives would rather you go in and get checked then sit at home worrying. Neither time was I made to feel silly or as though I was over reacting. I' m off to have a bath now as I'm not sure I've felt the baby today but then I have been rushing around like a mad woman so going to try and relax instead!

PerpetualProvocateur · 02/06/2011 20:19

Hi everyone, a few days off and I?ve come back to find a new thread, about 14 pages of chat to catch up on, and several new babies!

I have sorted my problems with my MW by speaking to the supervisor of community midwives, who was very sympathetic and concerned that I hadn?t yet had a home visit. She arranged for the supervisor of my team of community midwives to look into my situation, and she did a home visit within a couple of hours of my call. She said that my MW had been right to keep an eye on my BP as it was high for me, but it wasn?t any reason I couldn?t plan a home birth, and nothing else my MW had mentioned was a reason I couldn?t plan a home birth.

She wasn?t able to confirm the baby?s position (he?s been moving a lot lately), though, so sent me in for a presentation scan. The scan confirmed that he is still cephalic and is well engaged, so all is clear for my home birth. He has, however, turned back-to-back even though he was in the optimal position for weeks, so I am now trying to coax him into flipping over. It was nice to see him again as my last scan was 17 weeks ago, but seeing that sweet little face made me even more eager for him to get here soon!

Both supervisors were surprised about my perception that my MW had not been supportive of my plans for my home birth, as they considered her to be ?a strong home birth advocate?. Hmm In any case, I did this week?s antenatal appointment whilst I was in for the scan, and will see another MW next week (at 39 weeks) and then my GP at 40 weeks, so hopefully won?t be put in an awkward situation where I need to see my old MW again. They did mention that there is a small chance she could be on call when I go into labour, and if so, if there was another home birth at the same time, they might not be able to send someone else. I think the chances of that happening are pretty low, so will cross that bridge if/when we get to it.

Congratulations to stargirl, HalleLouja, 79Monica, Louey

Thanks for sharing your birth story GoodVibrations!

A bit Envy of everyone snuggling their newborns tonight. Hopefully not too much longer for the rest of us!

Good luck with induction, Gillz, and good luck with your c-section tomorrow BPrincess!

thorny when my waters broke with ds they were clear (well besides from lumps of his poo) it was really obvious they were waters -not like what your describing (but then I didnt loose mucous plug etc with him so maybe that's it) the general rule of thumb here is to call the hospital if you see
Any bright blood - all may very well be perfect but just to be on the safe side I think you should. I really hope this is it for you!!!

Had a sweep today (first time ever) so am here hoping something is happening - petitech for what it's worth, I didn't find it painful at all and it was over in about 20 secs.

Am loosing a tiny amount of dark red/ brown discharge and am having very mild pains (but are they still bra ton hicks?)

Apologies for lack of individual posts, am on Phone and am being very self obsessed with symptom spotting right now.

louey and Monica a huge huge congratulations. Hope your both ok. glizz'am thinking of you xx

moomin156 · 02/06/2011 21:01

when my waters broke it was very obvious.......buckets of water, felt like id wet my self with no control. i also had no 'show' so cant cooment, but maybe thats what it is.....
