Hi everyone, lots to catch-up on!

Ipswich you made me laugh with your ?rag on a stick? comment ? hope you are not too uncomfortable. Great that the babies are growing well but I can imagine the feeling that if they keep going you will burst!

princess sooo close, when is your cs booked for?

quempin good news on the downs result too ? funny how we continue to have such similar experiences in some ways. I am also going to ask for the sonogrpaher to tell us the sex at our 16 weeks scan if they can see it. Very odd to think we might know in a week from now. I have thrown up only once in this pregnancy and it was at 14+5 ? odd! Just eating so much and craving food that is bad for me- grrr ? why can?t I be one of these people that has an aversion to chips and a craving for apples. My capacity for pickled onion monster much knows no bounds.

Welcome back ladybird! Was getting a leeeetle bit worried about you so glad to see you back and all well (virus apart!). I would trust the word over your consultant way over that of the sonographer. Excellent at what they do but shouldn?t really be straying into discussing your birth, very much the domain of the consultants and midwives. I found that out when I was asking the sonographers I have had loads of questions which now I realise I was directing at the wrong people. I haven?t looked into the birth side of things much yet ? what should I know about natural births with twins that mean some of you are running a mile?? I had assumed I would go for a natural birth if possible but now wondering what I don?t know!!

MrsS brilliant that you are home and I hope you and the girls have settled into a feeding routine that you are all happy with. What I wouldn?t give to fast forward right to where you are now and skip passed the pregnancy and birth bits!

Wow BB3 some drama there. Sounds scary, glad all settled. Hang on in there!

With me all is good. Looking forward to my next scan next week to get another peek at the twins and some reassurance.

Janberryxx · 10/08/2011 10:20

Hi Folks! I hope you don't mind a stranger just leaping in! I have only just come across this thread, have been looking for a Twins Antenatal thread for a while, but am not very good at finding my way around MN!
Anyway, HURRAY, I've found you all now, and am very pleased that I have!
I feel bad that I haven't yet read any of your posts, so I hope it isn't rude to post immediately. Maybe what I am about to ask about has already been dicussed earlier in the thread, if so please refer me back!
I will enjoy reading through your posts hopefully this evening but am chomping at the bit to post now as I have a brief 1 hours break from my 3 yr old and don't want to waste a second!!!!!!
I was wanting to get a feel for what kind of advice or knowledge you may have come across regarding nutrition during a twin pregnancy (and during BF twins).

I am currently 19 preg with (most likely) non-ID twins. EDD 02/01/12.
My MW says just to eat a healthy balanced diet. I mentioned I was taking Pregnacare which is for a singleton pregnancy I would imagine (so is it enough for twins?)
When I was pregnant with my DD, I took billions of supplements recommeneded by Patrick Holford and Susanah Lawson in their book "Optimum Nutrition Before, During and After Pregnancy". My DD has turned out to be a very bright little spark! Who knows whether the supplements played a part?

However, ofcourse, as I keep finding in other contexts, twins don't get a mention in this book, so I'm not sure what to do really. Supplements are very pricey- do we just wee them out?!! Or are they worth every penny? (Sorry for such a looooong post!)

tabbycatt · 10/08/2011 13:31

Hello all

Sorry for the radio silence. Have had some time off work and was too busy sleeping and eating at home to get round to turning the computer on!!!!

Sounds like quite a lot going on... sorry that I will forget to say half the things I intend to say (memory definitely suffering from hormones - paid CM twice this month and wouldn't have noticed if she hadn't queried it... I was just wondering why I was so skint!)

BB3 - fingers crossed your placenta has moved, that would be great! Mine was in the way at 20 weeks with DD1 but had moved by 33 weeks when they rescanned - and apparently that isn't unusual. Here's hoping for you!

Tinks - I bet you that your dds wrap your dh round their little fingers so fast he completely forgets he thought he wanted a boy. My dh wanted a boy first time round (his brilliant quote when we found out we were having a girl was 'but I don't know what to do with a girl!'. Now he wants the twins to be girls as he loves having a little girl so much. It's just a bit of an adjustment. Not nice for you to have to worry about though.

Raven - v envious that you are getting a 16 week scan! I don't get another until anomaly scan at 20 weeks. just mw at 16 weeks.

And thanks to all for the reassurance that my SIL was indeed talking nonsense. Although Quempin did worry me slightly at the image of VB in theatre surrounded by half the world - that's a long way from the home birth I was considering before I found out there was more than 1 in there!! (although it was fairly crowded when DD1 made her appearance - 3 MWs and a paediatrician, plus DH and my mum!). That said I still want a VB if I possibly can - had a good experience last time though and think that makes all the difference.

Janberry - welcome! nice to meet you. I only recently discovered the thread and it is so lovely to find a group of people going through the same experiences! Not sure how much help I can give on nutrition, I have been told by MW and GP that I need to be eating as healthily as possible as the babies will suck everything out of me. I think that the basic premise though is that the babies will get whatever they need, it just might be me that feels rubbish as they might not leave me enough of certain vitamins/minerals. I was advised to take a multi-vit throughout pregnancy (MW actually advised pregnacare but not sure another cheaper type wouldn't suffice - need to read the boxes next time I run out), and GP has prescribed high dose folic acid for me which I take as well. (Weird one that as I thought most of benefit of folic acid was prior to conception and in first trimester but I was prescribed it at 12 weeks.) GP also said that I will in all likelihood struggle with growing 2 from a nutrition perspective - in her view I will be on iron supplements at some point in this pregnancy - never struggled with that before. Calcium is the other concern - but as I am drinking more milk than I thought was humanly possible as that is all I ever fancy drinking I suspect my body is already reacting to that issue!

Anyhoo, really should get back to it. Will try not to leave it so long next time!

tiggersreturn · 10/08/2011 16:38

I just saw on another thread that silver's twins came at 31 weeks. Wishing her and them all possible strength and good health through this time.

Tinks30 · 10/08/2011 17:26

Thanks for all the kind words. My DH has adjusted really well to the news. He comes home and asks how his girls have been - really quite sweet.

Hey, is anyone dealing with headaches from hell? They've just started in the last couple of weeks and they are right behind my eyes. Is this just me? I had to come home from work today because it got so unbearable Sad

Does anyone know if I can take anything to relieve the pain?

Xxx

ravenlocks · 10/08/2011 18:38

Welcome janberry, glad you found us! Good question re nutrition. I am trying to eat a healthy diet but on top of that I am eating a load of rubbish too Blush, I get my 5 a day and eating lots of healthy protein and calcium etc but adding to that crisps and chocolate every day, the odd muffin, burger etc etc! I am taking Pregnacare when I remember - seriously that is about 1 day in 3, I must try to get into a better routine with that. I was on the strong folic acid, for about 2 years, stopped in week 13 when my last packet ran out and switched to the pregnacare. I found it much easier to take the folic acid every day as it was in my make up bag and I popped it in the morning when doing make up but with pregnanare you have to take with a meal and hence I often forget. I hadn't even thought that they wouldn't be sufficient for twins, haven't asked that question of any doctor/ MW but equally they haven't said I need to do anything more/ different to a singleton pg on that front.

Oh and to silver, hope you and the babies are doing well. Take lots of good care.

Tinks glad DH has come round. I can't wait to find out what we have got in there! Impatient. I had a day last week where I had a stinking headache and I really don't get them at all usually. I didn't take anything for it but is it right you can take paracetemol? I didn't coz I wasn't sure and tried to drown it with water instead which didn't work.

When did you guys feel movements? I am concerntrating when I am in bed before I fall asleep to see whether I can feel them, I know it is early (I am 15+4) but my theory is we should feel twins earlier as less room in there for them - is that a rubbish theory?

So last night I start to feel loads of weird sensations and think - this is it!, I then get freaked out as I don't like the feelings atall and want it to stop and get really upset about the fact that I will have this for the next few months and find it quite sore - I wake DH up and tell him and burst into tears. This morning I realise this was all a dream and there was no movements, no freaking out and no discussion with DH on the subject! My brain is going to mush I think or I am driving myself crazy.

MrsStevo · 11/08/2011 08:14

Welcome janberry and congratulations to you!! FWIW I took pregnacare supplements and also fish oil supplements whilst pregnant with my twins. My consultant made a point of saying that they are only geared towards one baby but they seemed to work fine for me. I am vegetarian as well so had to be quite careful with my diet to ensure I got enough iron. I took an extra iron tablet now and again when I thought I hadn't had much in a day. I've no idea whether what I did was right but I produced two healthy little girls and my iron level was fine throughout my pregnancy and after my CS so I can't have been too wrong. Although having read what ravenlocks has written, I obviously didn't take the pregnacare at the right time - I always took it just before bed! Ooops.

Tinks - no experience of headaches from hell here I'm afraid. Are you drinking enough? I have always found that if I drink a pint of water my headaches tend to die away.... but it obv didn't work for ravenlocks!

Ravenlocks - i didn't feel my babies move at all until 22 weeks, although obviously we had TTTS so one of them had a shed load more fluid around her than she should have so I wouldn't have been able to feel her and the other one couldn't move. I never got any of the 'fluttering' sensations that people bang on about. I know what you mean about mush-brain ... and I'm sad to say it gets worse once the babies are on the outside!! I'm not far off forgetting my own name at the moment and the girls get called each other's name as well - BAD mummy!!!

PrincessScrumpy · 11/08/2011 10:43

My CS is booked for 2 Sept.

My consultant prescribed Pregaday for nutrition but it's high in iron and had bad affects so I haven't taken them every day.

Ravenlocks I felt them move around 20w and now they move (34w) and we can work out which baby and which limbs we are seeing/feeling. They also react to things like hot drinks and chocolate and dance to "here come the girls" by Sugarbabes which is quite appropriate! Grin dd1 moved a lot but I couldn't work out what was what. This pg is very different. My tummy is very firm though. I think everyone is different.

tiggersreturn · 11/08/2011 11:25

Good luck princess. Mine is on 13th unless they turn up of own accord. I was also given pregaday for the iron and took up to 20 weeks but hated the side effects so figured I'd stick to spinach and red meat. I was on 5mg folic acid but that was due to.diabetes not twins.

PrincessScrumpy · 11/08/2011 11:32

tiggersreturn are you wishing the pg away like I am? I feel so guilty thinking like that. I also had in my head that the summer hols (I work in a school) would be "special time" for dd1 and I before twins arrive - instead dd1 is staying with my parents until Saturday and they're bringing her back at the weekend, helping put together cot etc and them taking her back with them Sunday. They live 1 1/2 hours away and run their own business so need to be at their house. Mum stayed with us here for 5 days. I simply cannot care for dd - she is very good but lively and wants to be played with etc. My parents are fab but I'm feeling like a failure. I can't stay with parents as they live in the middle of nowhere and not near a hospital - i've been told I need a cs due to twins positions and am in danger of cord prolapse. dd1 came in 2 hours 5 mins so I need to be at a hospital ASAP once labour starts.

BB3 · 11/08/2011 13:56

Hello all

Princess and Tiggers yay for dates!

Princess - I am 32 weeks (almost) and am wishing the pregnancy away rapidly. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want them to come out now and be poorly, they are too small BUT having said that I am SOOOO done being pregnant!! Am hoping beyond hope I get dates and more details at my appointment next week for the scan and consultant!

Silver congratulations and wishing you and your babies all the happiness and health in the world!

I haven't taken any supplements this pregnancy (apart from folic acid until about 14 weeks) but then my body has told me pretty much what it wants. At the beginning it wouldn't accept any white meat at all and craved red meat constantly, then it was fruit and now milk.

I didn't feel these babies until post 20 weeks and was getting really annoyed as felt DS at 16 and he was a singleton! My belly now is like a solid lump of baby so every move is pretty clear!

Tinks I get really bad headaches at the moment. You can take paracetamol but I find sleep is the only thing that really helps.

Princess snap with the feeling guilty. DS is 2 and clearly aware of some change and now wants constant mummy attention and is INCREDIBLY active, and I just can't keep up - i try and then end up making myself crippled - and I am worried about the time I will have for him when they arrive but there isn't all that much we can do about it. My family have been great but doesn't take away the need I have as a mother to spend time with my son and make him happy.

Twin one has been very quite today so am keeping an eye on him or her for the next few hours. Crikey there is always something to worry about isn't there!!

tiggersreturn · 11/08/2011 19:47

Sort of. i'm torn Btwn wanting the uncomfiness and hormonal bursting into tears to stop and knowing that once they come it'll be much worse and that it's best for them to stay inside until 36/37weeks to make sure they're a good gestation. Also it's taken so long to get to this point I do try to remind myself to be grateful although it's harder when it's hot!

I'm not in the most reasonable of moods cos we moved house yesterday and comet screwed up our order which contained such items as fridge freezer which is making the whole thing very stressful. They've been ghastly about it as well.

Anyway I've had ds on summer camp for 2 weeks which has been working well and I have him on another one for 3 days next week until our au pair arrives.

PrincessScrumpy · 11/08/2011 20:38

DH was under redundancy consultation but he had his job confirmed today so I can relax a bit. Like I need the stress right now. Smile

MrsStevo · 12/08/2011 05:10

I know what you all mean about wishing the pregnancy away. I was desperate to meet our girls in the last few weeks and had to keep reminding myself that it is much better that they keep cooking for a bit longer. Although I adore them and am so happy with my newfound motherhood status, I do miss being pregnant now - I loved my bump and the kicking sensations. Plus I was fat and obviously pregnant whereas now I'm just fat with a post-pregnancy jelly belly :( I know it is uncomfortable - particularly in the heat (which seems to have disappeared fortunately!) - but try and take it easy and make everyone else run around after you where poss Grin

A word of warning about twin mummyhood - I totally wasn't prepared for how torn I would be when both babies needed me at once. It is heartbreaking when I'm feeding / changing one girly and the other one starts shouting and wailing like they're broken in two. It is very hard to pick up the second baby when you're dealing with the first - I think the answer may lie in some kind of baby sling / baby bjorn so you can carry one and stick the other in the sling. I need to invest in one of those.

princessscrumpy - hurrah for DH's job! Like you say - last thing you need to be fretting about at the moment really.

Hope you're all well!

PrincessScrumpy · 12/08/2011 10:46

A friend is giving me her baby sling as mine for dd1 broke. I did think of that. My main worry is giving dd1 the attention she needs. She's very well behaved but is 3 and has been the focus of dh and I for 3 years. She's excited about the babies but I think she'll want to send them back after 2 weeks!

BB3 · 12/08/2011 18:58

Hello ladies

Hope you're all doing ok!

Quick question to tigger and princess - when did they give you your cs / induction dates? I'm almost 32 weeks and am yet to even have the conversation with my consultant - he just keeps saying 'we'll talk about it nearer to the time!'

Am having a really crappy over emotional day today and just feel like i have no control over anything at the moment and I'm really unsettled!

Sorry for the me post will make sure I come on later and read everything!

BBx

MrsStevo · 12/08/2011 19:53

BB3 - I know your Q wasn't aimed at me but FWIW my consultant said that he would have looked to book my CS once I'd reached 34 weeks if I hadn't had such a complex pg. Sorry if that makes your emotional day worse... 2 weeks isnt long at all tho really when you think you've already made it through 32. Hope you feel better soon.... chocolate or cake usually works for me! x

BB3 · 12/08/2011 20:06

Thanks MrsS that's great! Wasn't sure if you would have had that chat seeing as the girls decided they wanted to see their mummy sooner Wink. I don't see anyone at 34 weeks i don't think have 32 and 36 week appointments and thought 36 might be a bit late to have the chat!

How are the girls? Do you have any recent pics?!

PrincessScrumpy · 13/08/2011 13:40

BB3 I only got my date at 33w and will have forms to sign at 35w then a final appointment at 37w, cs the following day. My 32w one was moved to 33w as I was on holiday. CS was decided early on due to dd1's birth but twins are in the wrong position anyway so cannot be safely delivered vb without risk of cord prolapse. Mine are mc/da so fortnightly appointments for me since 20w.

tiggersreturn · 14/08/2011 19:37

Just to let you know 2 boys came on Saturday very much by surprise at 33+4 after my waters broke. No. 1 was 5lb2 and 2 was 3lb13 and is currently on scbu but we hope I'll have both with me tom. Also it was a vbac. Am still rather in shock

BB3 · 14/08/2011 19:43

tigger that's amazing! Huge congratulations! So pleased for you! Well done! Do you have names yet? Sending lots of love to you all x enjoy the cuddles with them both tomorrow!

PrincessScrumpy · 14/08/2011 20:18

tigger huge congratulations! Grin and well done on the VBAC. Let us know when the boys have names.

I'm selfishly wishing my waters will break this week - 3 weeks of growing is terrifying - can barely walk. My parent came this weekend and bought dd back (mum is on standby to collect her later in the week depending on how I cope). Dad said I don't look pg from behind and just my normal size 12 - when I turn round however it's another story!
