Our old thread ran out of space! The horror!

PS - welcome to the world of crying for no reason. I managed to hold out until 34+3, but I'm 35+3 now and I've had about five episodes of it Grin

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 11:19

I'm glad I was normal!
It was just the complete lack of emotion when I saw the baby - I felt nothing at all.
well, I thought,. oh, that's interesting - it's not lying on its back like it is in the other pictures I've seen.
expecting them to flip the image, until he told me the baby was upside down!

oh, yeah, they added another day onto my dates - or at least, took one off.
made it earlier anyway.
so now it's due on 26th November and i'm now 13+4.
(see, if it keeps going on like this, next time I'll be about due! Grin )

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 25/05/2011 11:34

Yep I didn't feel like crying in either of mine - first off it was like, woah, is that my insides? Grin

Oh and unexplained crying, I lasted out until, oh, about last week... you did soooo well TTL!

vallinnapod · 25/05/2011 11:43

Glad the scan was good nickel - do you not remember dildocam from the JS days? I had so many throughout IVF and early pregnancy (over 20+!) I got shocked when I got to the scanning stage and kept my knickers on Grin I have bizarre emotions about it all. I cannot begin to describe how much I lovee Teddy already. I am so excited to meet him and get to the stage where I worry I will cuddle him so tightly he'll pop! I hug my bump and tell him this constantly yet I don't connect the scan to what's inside me. I still don't believe what I see on the screen, or even the movements really. the only time I have cried at a scan was 9 weeks when I had had a really heavy bleed and we saw and heard his heartbeat.

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 11:47
Grin i've only ever had a smear up there so was quite surprised by the whole thing...

I know i'll connect more when I feel it moving.
It was just weird that I was soooo excited about having the scan, and so nervous, i was just expecting more of a reaction!
even DH had a bigger reaction than me, and he is always as calm as anything!

ConfessionsOfAnAchingFanjo · 25/05/2011 12:03

Pleased you had a good scan Nickel. It's funny how we react to things sometimes isn't it? Just wait for the 20 week scan, when it really looks like a proper baby, not some half formed thing with stumpy limbs waving at you. Nothing wrong with not crying or gushing at scan, and nothing wrong with having an irrational cry at random times and places either! Grin

I've never ever heard of anyone having their cervix measured though. Glad I don't live in your area!

vallinnapod · 25/05/2011 12:34

Just to 'reassure' my cervix was measured at the 12 and 20 week scans.

I am amazed at how routine appointments vary across the country!

vallinnapod · 25/05/2011 12:35

Infact - if you remember, I was told quite how lovely my cervix was at 20 weeks Grin

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 12:36

I don't want it measured again!
surely it can't change that much in 8 weeks!

I'm sure you do have a lovely cervix Grin
noone has ever commented how lovely mine is.

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 12:41

I've put some photos on my profile now.

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 25/05/2011 12:50

ooh yours looks much more baby like than mine was (mine shows the bones really clearly but not the feet, so it looks like it has cloven hooves and a huge conk!) Intrigued to see how much it will have changed by next week.

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 12:51
Grin

there were much better views that they could have taken pictures of Hmm

there was one when it had crossed ankles! Grin
and, obviously, I would have loved to have a pic of the scary skeleton face. Grin

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 25/05/2011 13:00

What was happening in the top pic? It looks like they were squashing the bean! My four pics look essentially the same as eachother - and no close ups either.

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 13:02

they were squashing it!
I told you it wouldn't keep still Grin

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 13:03

the close-ups are basically the same picture but closer.
It cost £6 Shock for 2 photos!
I know it looks like more than two photos, but they were all the same but closer or furtheraway.

takethatlady · 25/05/2011 13:07

vallinna I so know what you mean about loving the baby already. So weird. I have told DH this loads of times, how weird I feel to already love a little person I've never even seen (and you're right, it's not all that much to do with the scan pics, though I absolutely love having the pictures too). The first time I told him this was as we waited for the first scan and didn't know if all would be alright - but I still didn't cry at the scan. Definitely agree nickel, movement is amazing. People keep telling me I'll get fed up of it but I don't - I love her moving around.

Though I am very grumpy that NOBODY has ever measured my cervix or told me I have a nice one Confused :)

Baby2b · 25/05/2011 13:26

Glad your scan went well nickel. I felt really elated just after my scans but then really flat the next day for some reason. No fanjo prodding for me either. ttl I got asked about crying too and it never even occured to me to cry at the scan. Think my mil thought I was a bit heartless.

Every time I come on this thread at the moment I think of cakes and get the munchies...time to raid the fridge.

Oh, also got a weight "comment" to add to the list. Met a friend this week who moved my scarf out of the way and said lets see how your bump is coming along. Followed by her screwing her nose up and going "oh, you haven't got any bigger", followed by questioning face. Well you thought i was huge three weeks ago, so not to worry?

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 13:30

I hope noone tries to assess my bump.
they might find that their nose suddenly gais a bump.

I got weighed yesterday as well - i was dead chuffed that they used the same machine as in Mums-to-be behaving badly! Grin
(i think the midwives must hear that a lot....0
although I wasn't so chuffed at the end - it measured and calculated, and everything was in the "normal" range, then at the end, it recalculated my fat, and it went right to the border of Normal and Over. Angry
Then I kept telling DH, "see, i told you i was fat, and you didn't believe me"
he said "it still said you were normal, and they didn't say anything, did they!"
followed by comments that he must not say his wife is fat, regardless of what she says (how he managed to be single so long is an enigma...)

BrassicaBabe · 25/05/2011 13:50

Right, I'm going to attempt to catch up so that I can post something meaningful! BlushGrin

Back shortly....

vallinnapod · 25/05/2011 13:58

My cervix and I are now feeling very special (and a little smug Grin).

It's actually quite an important measurement as it can go some way to helping show if your cervix is competent and able to support the pregnancy - or so I was told.

We had to 'donate' £3 for 4 photos. At 12 weeks we must have been given about 15 really, really good ones. All very different and fab. At 20 we got 2 crap ones that I am pretty sure were identical (hands over his face!)

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 14:05

yes, i was told if it was too short, then there's a bigger chance of being premature.

we had no choice - that was the the price!
I wish we'd filmed the moniter now, cos there were some very interesting poses and postitions.

nickelbabe · 25/05/2011 14:05

moniter ??? a lizard??
i meant Monitor. Blush

Baby2b · 25/05/2011 14:14

I have just had parcel force at the door and received a free box of baby wipes! There are 15 packets of derma h2o waterwipes. I can't even remember entering the competition?! Grin

KateeHasABunInHerOven · 25/05/2011 14:17

Tee hee I was just browsing my local freecycle list and spotted what should be Monsanto weedkiller... had mistakenly been typed Monsatan... how true, ha ha, much more appropriate names!

Envy at baby2b's haul, I never win anything! Grin

BrassicaBabe · 25/05/2011 14:24

Well, to start with I can't help/join the cake conversation. I once had to make 2 cakes because the first one I made didn't rise enough to cut in half! Neither did the 2nd...So I stuck the both together Blush I make a mean pate though if that helps! Hmm

Flips? New one on me. Someone post a link please.

My head is still firmly in the ground when it comes to nipple leaks, washable pads etc. Nope, my head just won't go there! Grin

Oooohhhh, congrats sleepy! That's really exciting! So glad you've got a host of symptoms this time too Grin (I'm making notes as I catch up hence the congrats coming after the ramblings above!! Wink)

What's going on with cowboy? I can't find the detail through the posts...

Yeah for scan nickel. Although a bit Shock that you were subjected to dildocam. (PMSL for vallinna offering to take off her knicks for scans Grin) That's the first time I've heard that one for a routine (ie not v v early) scan. I take it you aren't joining the multiples club then? Glad all of the readings were good.

In fact, I've not had any internals yet. Is this the same for everyone else? Do they get interested in "down there" at any point? Or do they wait for labour to start?

I second/third what you say about feeling disconnected from scans. I find it difficult to tie up the pics on the screen with what's going on inside. And I say that even though Lump and Bump move around A-L-L the time. In fact I'm still having a hard time connceting that the aches, pains, movements etc will turn into babies. 31+5 for me now. 7 weeks exactly until when ELCS booked for, assuming nothing happens before then.

Well, I finish work next week. 4 weeks holiday before maternity leave kicks in. The 2 hour commute each way just kills me.

to all
