New thread here ladies.

Again, many thanks to Frakk for the inspired title Smile

Do you think this thread will be the last ante-natal one for the April 11 crew? Or will I be the last one standing and having to start a new thread and talking to myself?! Hmm

Hope Frak & anyone else in labour is doing well. On phone so keeping it short.
Surgeon on duty overnight was a breast man apparently & they want to wait til today for a colo-rectal man.

Can you imagine growing up wanting to be a colo-rectal surgeon?!

M is feeding like the chunk she is lol & my sorest bit right now is my hand where the cannula is ouch .

kittycatcat · 21/04/2011 06:13

Congrats again jks. Excellent she is feeding well. Gawd that sounds v unpleasant. hope ur ok.

I have been up every hour through the night for the loo. Bored now.

architien · 21/04/2011 07:03

JKS Sounds like they have you in the best hands and I have you say again: You're a hero :)

architien · 21/04/2011 07:26

Well, I've reached my guess date. Didn't think I would with all this stop start stuff but well I'm here.

SaltedPretzels · 21/04/2011 08:11

Congratulations JKS Wonderful news and Frakk we look forward to your news xx

Well 41 + 2 sweep yesterday, nothing happening, booked for monitoring and scan tomorrow and maybe if they have time (I love how they said that, cos that appears to be all I have right now) Sad they will try another sweep. After this if nothing happenens they will make an appointment after Tuesday 42 weeks! they will talk induction.

Well heading out for another long walk, bounce on ball and probably a small cry xx

SarahJinx · 21/04/2011 08:15

Wowsers, so much to catch up on this morning, but hugest congrats to JKS on the safe arrival of little Mary, boo re the tear and thanks for the live thread, it was fascinating

Now, what of Miss Frakk?

Rubbish night here too, aching from bump down to knees all night, up hourly for walks and wees and little feeling-sorry-for-self sobs, Lis what painkillers were you given for SPD? I have Codeine Phosphate but not doing much.

MW at 11.

JenAT · 21/04/2011 08:44

JKS a colorectal surgeon is definitely the person you want to be doing your surgery. Getting the expert in will give you the best result.

BTW, 2 of my best friends are colorectal registrars. Grin honestly!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 21/04/2011 08:56

Many congratulations on the arrival of Mary, JKS. Sorry to hear about the 4th degree tear though. I'm glad to hear that they've got someone on the case asap though.

Do you reckon Frakk is holding her lo at right this moment in time?!

8 days until my EDD and I KNOW there will be no sign of baby in the next week. MIL is in hospital awaiting surgery on her wrist as she had an accident and fell on some glass. FIL is being a bit of a twat about it all - long story, can't be bothered to go over it as he's doing my head in, although after taking him to the hospital later this afternoon I will probably be on here ranting about it later.
Then my sister is dropping my niece of this evening for two days while she works away - this is no problem, she's a delight and will be a help with ds.
Then various social invitations over the weekend to go to. With so much going on this baby will not be coming.
Unless of course he decides to turn up today, just as I'm 30 miles away from home and somehow have to drive back home while in labour ............ sod's law and all that!

Morning girls!
Wow what an eventful 24 hours we've had in here!!

Was trying to check out the stats list to see who's left to pop and who's pending announcements - it's a bit of a muddle!!

ILTMI, Arch, Sats, Sarahjinx, Kitty and MuffinMouse you are all under strict instruction to stay put with me for a little while longer!!

Lis, Aussie, Caramello, Ecuse, Bellastella and Salted I'll let you have your babie soon cus you've been waiting ages!! :)

Sorry if I've missed anyone else who posts regularly, my head is pickled with the list!! Nothing new happening here, am actually considering a little glug of castor oil to help things along - do you think I'm crazy, 39+4 today.

Hope we have news from Frakk, Lucie and JSJ soon.

architien · 21/04/2011 09:48

The evil not so nice MW (damn shame as it turns out she's only 1 of 3 I could have had ring) just called to say she needs to do a check on me today as it's my EDD and that she'll be here in 30 minutes. :(

Not much notice and I can imagine this appointment laden with intervention talk. Damn it.

architien · 21/04/2011 09:54

MrsW if I don't pop soon they will hound me and my husband will need to go back to work. I damn well hate this tiny window that I've been left with that is acceptable to give birth in during which the clock is waived at me the very morning of the day I am "due". I'm pretty sure I ovulated 5 days after the classic NHS 14 days is everyone mark anyway. 30 minutes notice I ask you. They told me at 38 weeks they'd ring me in 41st week if I hadn't called them. As most folk though I don't want to say no as I want to be sure everything is fine but it comes at a price. I'd be surprised if my blood pressure isn't sky-high and the baby's HB doesn't go high again, just like last time they did this. Damn it.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 21/04/2011 10:10

JKS congratulations! Grin Not so congratulations on the tear - ouch, ouch, ouch :( I know it is a PITA waiting, but better that the right person puts you back together. Really hope they can see you soon and that you're home asap.

Frakk - hope everything is going well, fingers crossed you are snuggling your baby as I type! :)

arch - that seems an odd system? Don't you just have appointments with the midwife at your surgery?

architien · 21/04/2011 10:14

Ali not always at the medical centre they seem to want to come to the house now and again. I'm not sure if it's because it's a rural area or because I am going to try to give birth at home or a mixture of the two. I know another woman whop gets the odd home visit and isn't booked for a home birth. Shrugs.

MrsWajs · 21/04/2011 10:28

That does seem a bit odd Arch, is there a reason they don't want you going too far over? Sorry if I've missed this previously.

I know I definitely didn't ovulate at 14 days as LMP was 4th July last year and EDD given originally was 10th April but it was adjusted to 24th after 12 week scan due to measurements of baby. So I take from that that I actually ovulated around day 28 of my cycle???!
So in my mind I've been pregnant for an extra 2 weeks, potentially I am 11 days overdue but just have to trust that my calculations are wrong and MWs are right and therefore due in 3 days!

Anyhoo, I think 30 minutes notice for a home appt is a bit crap all the same. Hope it goes ok. :)

architien · 21/04/2011 10:44

It seems they are late, husband and I sat here glued to the window with birth plan in hand. MrsW No there's no medical reason for their behaviour as it is a perfectly healthy pregnancy following a previous perfectly healthy pregnancy and birth 20 months previous. In fact just because this MW seems more nervous I've been screened throughly more than most, even the OB was surprised. I'm 31 so it's not my age. They have no medical reason but it's just the way this MW likes to do things. Sorry for the rant ladies, I'm a bit cave-lady just now and I don't liked being messed about.

architien · 21/04/2011 12:13

That's them arriving just now.

LisMcA · 21/04/2011 12:41

Thanks for your blessing to birth MrsWajs!

kitstwins · 21/04/2011 13:25

Hello all,

Looks like I've missed an eventful few days having fallen down the newborn rabbit hole. We made it home at the weekend but only after I'd stalked the paediatricians and nagged them to release us. It was good to get out of the hospital after five days. The baby is none the worse for his dramatic start in life, thank God, and has recovered really well. It turns out he inhaled meconium just before he was born (so thank God I had a c section) which in turn gave him septicaemia. The brain scans and lumber puncture all came back clear so we've been incredibly lucky. He was probably without oxygen for around 10 minutes so another five minutes delay would have been disastrous. Caesareans still suck though. It has been a bloody painful recovery so far.

Big congratulations to JKS and commiserations on the nasty tear. If it helps to hear, one of my girlfriends had a fourth degree for her first birth (gave birth on a birthing stool and her baby came out fast and with her hand up by her head). She was repaired by a colo-rectal surgeon in theatre and he did an amazing job as she ended up totally healed - zero continence issues at all (which she was terrified about) and her stitches were pretty straightforward. She slathered Zita West's 'Comfort Down Under' lotion on sanitary pads and put them in the fridge before wearing them, which I think really helped. She's since had her second baby with only a graze so the stitches held well, although I appreciate that another baby is probably low on your agenda right now! It might help to know that you can come out of a fourth degree nasty unscathed though.

Good luck to Frakk also - hopefully you've got your baby in your arms now.

We've had an eventful few days at this end. A gnarled right nipple from a s*dding nipple shield that rubbed the skin of my nipple off during a feed. Spent two days resting that nipple and just pumping milk via a breast pump, which was very time consuming. Now trying to even out my milk supply (my left breast has gone bionic!) and get back on track. This all happened on Sunday with no breastpump or means of acquiring one so I had a torturous 18 hours of hand expressing to ease off my massively engorged breast. Christ, it was a long day! Also managed to pull some muscles in my tummy getting out of bed - or at least they think that's what it is (either that or a small haematoma again). It has been excruciating though and made movement very slow and minimal, especially as I can't pick up the baby or get up from sitting without horrible pain. There's nothing I can do to remedy it (pulled muscle or haematoma) other than rest, which is obviously tricky. My baby is gorgeous though and a delight and although I have moments of looking around my bombsite house (breastpump, feeding pillows, littered muslins, fractious, tearful daughters struggling with the change and their clapped out, inactive mummy...) wondering why on earth I've voluntarily chucked such a hand grenade into our easy straightforward lives, he IS love and worth everything.

Off to do another feed...

kittycatcat · 21/04/2011 14:47

Hi kits Goodness what a scary time. Brilliant to hear he is doing so well.

arch how did the visit go?

My friend just visited with her two month old. I can't wait for a cuddle with my little man now!

LisMcA · 21/04/2011 15:04

Good to hear from you Kits glad all is now well (bar the shredded nipples and sore bits).

So, just back from MW, had a sucessful sweep [applause please] but my Bishops score is still low, but slightly higher at a 3, but not holding out much hope for a live labour thread today!! She is booking my induction for next week, looking like Tuesday or Wednesday.

Oooh, lots of crampy feelings down below, but that probably to do with the interfichering!!

MrsWajs · 21/04/2011 15:17

Round of applause for Lis Grin Don't give up hope yet, look at JSJ I'm assuming she has had her baby by now and she said her sweep wasn't all that great!
Hope something kicks off for you soon and you don't need to be induced.

My hips are hurting like buggery today, wonder if that is a sign?! Probably fortunately, have not managed to lay my hands on any castor oil as yet but did get some syrup of figs, so going to try and eliminate the 'phantom labour pains' by taking some of that!! Hopefully has the desired effect!

beckie90 · 21/04/2011 15:39

well really am in slow labour and im just fed up now the pains are coming often and a lovely few days of horrible shows. just wish baby would hurry up

JenAT · 21/04/2011 17:37

Kits good to hear from you. We had been wondering how you were. Really glad baby is well. You really have been through the mill haven't you. Hope your shredded nipple is healing, and your abdo pain settles.

Lis heres hoping your sweep starts something off for you.

frakyouveryverymuch · 21/04/2011 17:43

Marc arrived at 16.33 local, weighing in at 8lb4 giving mummy a second degree tear and 51cm long. In hospital, DH gone home, baby sleeping after mammoth 2 hour first feed and I should probably be resting too but hey!

I promise I will read the messages properly at some point but good luck beckie and I'm really glad to see kits here :)
