Firawla · 10/05/2011 08:47

yes davidtennant i would check because normally you always have to fast, otherwise they will send u back to come another day i think?

i have not had bump measured yet, they will prob do in 28 weeks apt i think? i am wondering if its going to be measuring big as it does seem huge :S but we will see

Yukana · 10/05/2011 09:02

RE: The bump measurements, I did have a consultant appointment at 26 weeks but it was so fast I had no idea what was going on. Hopefully my midwife can explain things to me on the 18th when my appointment with her is.

I got asked in public in Poundland however: 'How long do you have to go? 2 weeks?' before the lady touched my bump randomly, and I also got told by someone who was 35 weeks pregnant sat next to me in the hospital that she thought I had a large bump. I never thought I'd have gotten things like that but now I'm wary of them, if I get one more 'You're going to have a large baby' comment I'm going to scream!

I do have a huge bump though, I look like I'm ready to pop, but I'm only about 27 weeks. I've been told both at my 20 week scan and at my consultant appointment that baby is fine and growing normally. They didn't say she's measuring big. So does that mean I have a lot of amniotic fluid?

littlemisslozza · 10/05/2011 10:03

Leilandri you poor thing! What a shock. I hope you recover quickly, great that you have help from your MIL.

Mrs Stevo thinking of you too, must be such a worry but at least you know you are in capable hands and the babies are getting to a point where they have a good chance if they do have to be born early.

Yukana people say stuff like that to make conversation - I got asked if I was having twins when I was expecting DS2 Shock cheeky cow! I was actually smaller than when I was having DS1 and he was born at 39 weeks weighing 7lb 8oz so quite average. I have found that in the course of a day I can be told I look big or small by different people, don't take it to heart. At the moment I mostly get told I look quite small for 26 weeks but there is plenty of time yet (and it also depends what I am wearing as to how big I look). Not seeing midwife for another couple of weeks so not sure what I am measuring.

Annie456 · 10/05/2011 10:54

oh no mrsS, you really are going through it. Thinking of you and really hope things get better very soon. Sounds like you're in excellent hands and you are being very well monitored which hopefully is a comfort.

MrsV I sympathise completely - sounds like what happened to me with my blood pressure crash last week. It seems to have sparked off a whole series of panic attacks for me where I struggle to deal with commuting on the train / tube / bus because thats when it happened to me. Did you get quite short of breath when you were dizzy too? I'm not sure if that's something that goes hand in hand with my dizziness or if thats the panic element of it. Either way, I could do with Mr Panic buggering off and leaving me to get on with things!

4lbs leilandri thats amazing!! I've put on about 17lbs...sounds like a lot... Hmm

KLou111 · 10/05/2011 10:58

Sorry Leilandri that you've been through the wars. Soooooooo glad your little bundle is ok in there :) Get well as soon as you can xx

Bump seems to be getting bigger ever day here. Weighed myself this morning and I've put on apparently 20lbs!!! Shock
I don't know where the hell it all is as I can still get into most of my clothes, albeit with an extender button on some trousers, and I don't look 'fat', just normal, with a bump.

Not nice news about Kelly Brook, feel really :( for her and her DP. Makes me realise how lucky you are to get to full term.

nickstermum · 10/05/2011 13:23

Leilandri, really hope that all is good now with little one... and that everything has settled down. Im really sorry you were involved in such a hideous car crash and that i hope you are feeling a bit more human now.. great you have that RL support [big cheer for your MIL]

Firawla · 10/05/2011 13:29

Yukana are you small urself maybe its something like a normal sized bump just looks big on you or something? or just people's perception? If scans and consultant said its fine then I wouldn't worry.

CappuccinoCarrie · 10/05/2011 13:41

Oh my goodness leilandri you poor thing, thank goodness baby is ok (and you now!) and that you have such great support around you.

yukana I have big bumps and small babies, its a woeful lack of stomach muscles that causes it in my case! I daren't weigh myself again now that I've rediscovered my capacity for eating chocolate digestive biscuits...!

mrsS thinking of you and hoping the journey to Brum is ok.

wishwales still thinking of you and hoping your LO is staying put.

neverlookback · 10/05/2011 13:42

hi everyone, mrssteveo so sorry the problem has come back again, really hope everything goes as well as can do tomorrow and that the babies can continue to grow and hang in there x

leilandri you poor thing i bet that was so scary, glad youve got some extra help to get you better soon x

I have been to a pilates matwork class this morn which is part of the physio service here and next week ive got a gym ball exercise class, all aimed at strenghening core muscles which i deffinatly need. My spd is pretty much constant and im afraid to do to much as its sets it off but ive got acupuncture tomorrow for 1st time, quite nervous as ive heard it 1 big needle into your pubic bone and quite painful but worth it!! ill let you know!

Dp has gone back to work after 4 weeks off after his hernia op and in actually quite glad, im a sahm and he works a LOT so we are not used to being together all the time, we fell out so much which is a shame but you just have your routine dont you!!!

Im currently potty training ds who is 2.6 yrs and he is doing fab, he is even dry at night most nights which im amazed at, we almost gave up on thurs as he had a lot of accidents last week but he said no "big boy" and insisted on going on the potty and since thurs only had 1 accident a day, really want to suceed so i only have one in nappies!

jspark123 · 10/05/2011 17:09

Hi everyone, the third trimester has arrived! (27+3 today). Getting a little scary now as a first timer, but also excited at the same time.
Feeling lots of kicks and movements, and finding bending down after eating a meal brings on the reflux!

Sorry to hear about the worries some of you have, thinking of you.

r:e bump size, I was told at my 20 week scan that I would be going for a growth scan at 34 weeks as it is the policy at their hospital if anyone has a BMI (body mass index - an indication of how much body mass you have) under 20 then they automatically have this scan. I have always been a slender build and at my 24 week appointment the midwife said I was slightly under for my bump size but that it was a very subjective test and can vary depending on things like: how much amniotic fluid you have, what position the baby is lying, and your general size and weight. Therefore if they are concerned about the bump size they would do something about it, so I wouldn't worry, they seem to do these tests as a precautionary measure more than anything.

Trying to get my head around prams at the moment, aaaarrggghh...
May have settled on the maclaren xt (new model) as an all-rounder but may change my mind yet!

konatsu · 10/05/2011 18:26

Leilandri, I can immagine the shock! The important thing is that you and the baby are better now.

ohanotherone, my bump is big but they never measured it? shall I be worried?

I?m feeling a lot of kicks as well.. everywhere!!! Smile

Anu3 · 10/05/2011 18:58

jspark123 I hear you!!! I spent half my day looking at all the travel systems and ARRGGGHHH!!!!! Its so bloddy confusing. How can there be so many options its not like Im buying a car!! Shock

I have finally narrowed down to 3 Travel systems 1) BUGABOO BEE PLUS 2) BUGABOO CHAMELEON and 3) JANE SLALOM R MATRIX. Im going to the kiddicare/ mother are store next week to look at them and test them out. If we like one of them then Ill scout for deals online. I dont have to buy until July but will keep checking for the best deal.

My parents have offered to pay for it as gift from them! My mom rang me to tell me that this morning so Im a very happy bunny - That is a very thoughtful present from them! :)

Anu3 · 10/05/2011 19:00

MrsS So sorry about what you are having to go through! :( I hope everything goes well with you and sending you hugs and positive thoughts!

Leilandri Oh you poor dear! That must have been a shock! But glad both you and baby are doing ok!

KLou111 · 10/05/2011 20:51

Anu we're getting the Jane Slalom R Matrix Light and found it at diddyland.co.uk for £491, if you go to preciouslittleone.co.uk, they price match less 10% of the difference so we've got it for around £484. Cheapest I've found it anywhere. They only guarantee price for 7 days, so we're ordering ours this week woohoo!! Grin Getting the molten red one. We are team yellow but didn't want green or yellow and thought black was a bit....well....black! And you got a bag and raincover too. I did find one on a shop on ebay, but the listing ended and they haven't relisted it. Was £489 and included a pram suit, but I've emailed them and they haven't got back to me. Was trendybaby.co.uk.

Have my 4d scan now on Saturday (27+2) Grin can't wait!!!!! Meant to be next Saturday. My mum told me last week that there was an empty shop up the road with a 4d scan sign on it, thinking she just meant like a poster or something. Went to investigate today (as we're now back in the Midlands) and sure enough it's a 4d scan place!!!! Can't believe it; it's walking distance and £25 cheaper than the one we were going to 30 miles away!! Only doing every other Saturday at the mo though and we're only here til 2 weeks yesterday so had to be this week or go to the other one. Can't wait to see the little one!!! They said if we take some music along, they will put it on the dvd in the background, but we don't have any with us :( Was thinking of that one by as the video to that is of the same sort of image as the 4d scan :)

Bryher · 11/05/2011 00:14

Yay, I have a cotbed now, and a pushchair (slightly used) Chicco Liteway £58 from ebay,

bargain!) and a ring sling, feel a little more organised! Had been worrying about not

feeling much movement by 20 weeks, but he's wriggling a lot more and reread my scan report

and discovered I have an anterior placenta which muffles the movement a bit.

Trying to catch up with everything after a week away (last holiday as a couple for a while,

on the coast near Edinburgh, lovely...) apologies if I don't reply to everyone but there's

a lot to get through!

littlemisslozza :) Freddie is good, tho just the bump name atm, not currently on the

shortlist for when he comes out! It could grow on us though...

wishwales Hope things are still going well, you must be bored stiff! Yay for reaching 27

weeks :)

CappucinoCarrie Will definitely let you know when coming to the car seat shop, would be

nice to meet up :) Although I warn you, I may well have DH and my parents in tow... Yay

that your DH is on his final work trip, am sure it will be nice to have him back. We need

to start work on the nursery ASAP, get the painting done with enough time for the fumes to

clear out! Hope your grumbling SPD isn't getting worse.

JenniL Exciting but scary!! As Carrie says, Paul Stride don't look cheap but they do

have lots of stuff. I've only looked at their website so far, but they seem the best

Northern supplier of rearfacing car seats for up to 4 year olds, which are mostly only sold

in Scandinavia. Def want to go and have a look round. Hope the SPD isnt too bad, sounds

nasty :(

Welcome anatomyofasmile, theonlyhb2, Eviepoo, captainbarnacle, belle29

KLou hooray for the growing bump, and progress on the nursery. We are wussing out of

stripping the wallpaper, planning to paint over it instead :)

SelinaDoula Good news re free scan, let us know how it goes!

MrsS Sorry to hear one still has less amnio than the other, it does

sound stressful, thinking of you and best of luck. Oh, and also read your rant further down, not surprised it is all getting to you and DH is driving you mad, I do suspect some of it is hormone stress related and not DH's fault, but I don't know, they are so exasperating sometimes!!

Kate I sympathise with naming problems, we're really struggling with a boy's name, can't

really agree on anything. Have a pretty long shortlist! What was your favourite girl's

name? I do like Ivy, though seems a bit odd as is my Granny's sister's name! KLou I love

Ava and Holly.

Star lovely list of names, if I were only pink... ;)

Annie love those names, but why not go for Rose for your first if it's your fave? I do

think Emily Rose is a bit ship like tho. I love the simple tests for preparing for baby!

I'm planning to start mat leave one month before - but I would prob finish earlier if had

to face a London commute! I'm lucky as can car share with a colleague and work from home a

bit too, which may make it easier.

Can't believe people are packing their hospital bags already, I feel so disorganised...

Firawla I like Ayyash :)

RugbyWidow7 I am also planning to do the NCT and NHS classes - NHS cos I want the tour of

the hospital. I agree re not seeing the same person twice, I've only met my community

midwife once as she keeps going on holiday, so I keep seeing cover people!

littlemissw I like Rufus and Albie, not so sure about Enzo... Tho is a name of a

hairdresser near here which may put me off

Firawla How did GTT go? I have mine tomorrow, so just started starving myself. I did

have one early on and was clear then, so hoping it still is. Don't think they definitely

induce for diabetes, only if the baby is getting too big. Would affect birth centre,

though I've already been banned from that because I'm overweight, hey ho... Star hope

yours went OK too.

Yukana glad to hear you got to CAB and they helped, fingers crossed things get better for

you soon

Hersetta So sorry to hear about your job, that's rubbish, esp when you've been working so hard for them :( Hope you can get somewhere with the lawyer, as others have said if it is just you losing your job they have a case to answer.

neverlookback I sympathise, I am coping much better with the no/little alcohol thing than expected, but I do hate people getting drunk when I'm sober!

MrsV eek, that sounds scary, glad there was a first aid tent there for you! At least you could assure them you were eating well :)

bettyboo glad funeral went OK, and things are going OK, hope liver test's OK. Re bottles etc, it depends where you live, my cousin told me she was planning to breast feed but really struggled, then she was booted out of hospital with little warning one evening, but sent out DH to the local 24 hour supermarket and could get everything needed there. So I'm going to wait and see, but if you are somewhere more rural it may be an idea to get some as backup.

Ekka enjoy Canada!

Ali and morningsmadness Just read your rants too, hugs and hope you are feeling better today, it does sound exasperating, they just don't think!! And DTM not surprised you were annoyed if he didn't do anything for anniversary, in the middle of the Med Sea or not!!

Carrie I was told at last GTT (yukky liquid, not lucozade) that I would hear back in a couple of days if there was a problem, otherwise they wouldn't contact me...

ohanotherone I was told I was a little big last time I saw MW, but not big enough for follow up scan yet, but that they would check again later on. I need a growth scan anyway because of overweight / diabetes risk, as well as GTT. Think it is always a bit imprecise trying to match dates with size so wouldn't worry.

Leilandri So sorry to hear that, sounds terrifying, glad all seems to be OK and they have let you out now. Glad you have MIL to take care of you too :)

DTM I have GTT at 9.15 tomorrow and have had to fast (and not smoke, tho I don't anyway) and only have sips of water from 10pm tonight, so definitely check

Sorry all for ridiculous essay length post, I really need to keep up with it from now on and not respond to over a week's worth in one go!

Take care all xx

Yukana · 11/05/2011 08:57

Carrie You aren't the only one, I've been attacking sweets and biscuits like no tomorrow, it's depressing how I can't keep myself away! I just try desperately to balance things out so I'm getting the right nutrients.

Okay, I have a question about fish. Well, more about my greedy self but hey.
Yesterday I had cod and chips at a restaurant in a coastal town, it was lovely. My partner knows I've had a craving for fishcakes recently so bought me two fishcakes after we'd finished my meal however (fully cooked in the restaurant to takeaway) and we took them home. I ate them cold but they were still lovely anyway. Am I okay to eat that? Usually I don't eat that much fish whether I have a craving or not but I didn't want DP's little gift to go to waste. I think it should be okay if I just steer clear of fish for a little while? (Have been having it a few times in the past couple of weeks Blush )

Also, about baby blankets. I do tend to 'aww' and 'ahh' at the sight of them, does anyone know a good place that does soft and lovely blankets for babies? I just feel like that's one of the things I want to make perfect.

I'm also wondering what people's recommendations are for changing bags and hospital bags. I'm so horribly indecisive I can't decide! Friend of the family mentioned it depends whether or not you plan to bf or ff, I plan to bf if that helps.

MrsVidic · 11/05/2011 09:29

Hello everyone, I did a massive post last night but didn't upload it grr! Anyway I am a little pissed off today as my Dp has had to cancel his annual leave (due to start today) as he has been given a move at work (semi promotion). I am really happy and proud of him on 1 hand but am also really sad I'm not going to have a hand this week!

Anyway Annie I get really dizzy and woozy but would say panic attack, yet I totally understand why you wouldn't want to do a commute! I've just had to take dd to do the big shop as we had nothing in, we went at 730 am to avoid Quing as that's when I tend to faint.

MrsS hope the peas are doing ok, you are being monitored so well which is a major plus sign. So sorry you are having to go through it this preg, we will all will away the days till your 28 weeks!

yukana fish is fine but I think not more than 3 times a week for some kinds due to mercury levels. I also get comments on my bump / size off general strangers. I am told it's all baby, which I'm pretty sure it isn't as there's nearly 2 stone in there! They comment to make conversation, just ignore them, I know these comments can be really distorting when you hVe had previous body issues.

Potty training dd was easy and I think it's done! 1 week in knickers no accidents, well that's if I don't include all the times she sprays out of the potty and when she carries it to me full and spills it on the floor! I would DDR say keep perseveringly as it's so nice not having to cart around a massive bag all the time!

Leilandri how scary, glad to know you have the all clear. Womens bodies are amazing aren't they protecting your dc!

Wishwales hope your hanging in there, only 2 more days until the magic 28 weeks!

Firawla · 11/05/2011 09:44

Yukana for my ds1 i had a lovely blanket from comfortblankets.co.uk but just looked now and they dont seem to be doing those anymore, it was really soft though. i think the material is called minky?? then on the other side it had satin.
Shame they dont seem to be doing anymore or I would have recommended that,it was so nice

Bryher hope your gtt goes well and we all come back with clear results

mrs vidic well done for your dd, that seems to have gone really well no accidents at all! i think my ds is pretty much trained now too, and much easier than i thought. although i left him @ mil's house to go for gtt and came back to find him with poo in his pants and his hand all covered in poo! Shock but i think that was more due to mil just going off upstairs and leaving him by himself downstairs as we've not had anything like that at home with me keeping an eye on him, or when going out anywhere.. poor ds :( but other than that he has been doing great

about the fish i thought its just certain types you have to limit like the tuna or oily ones?? is it white fish too? i have totally gone off fish with this pregnancy though anyway, cant even stand the thought of it

RugbyWidow7 · 11/05/2011 10:13

Bryer, our cotbed was delivered yesterday too. First big purchase, woohoo! It's still in the box though, as we haven't got the carpet down yet.

I did sell the car yesterday though (our mini!!), which is another step in the right direction. Though I am now stranded as we haven't managed to find a replacement yet! (Will prob be busy on MN for the new couple of days Grin) Off to see the folks at the weekend to borrow a car from them for a few weeks.

I went on a hen do this weekend, thinking all my friends would be really impressed with my bump. Not so. They all said how small my bump is and how I don't look 6.5 months pregnant! That's all I get. Hope that makes you feel better Klou. Smile

Think we've finally settled on a buggy (Joolz Day) and the names. Fewh!

MorningsMadness · 11/05/2011 11:21

Such an amount of news since Monday, wow.
MrsS , thinking about you and the babies, you seem to have great care medically so trust those two little mites to keep going.
Leilandri , can't believe your news, you poor thing what a shock - take it easy!!!
Rugbywidow, good luck with the car replacement, still trying to face giving up my little 307 for something that will take the girls when they arrive along with DD1.

WinterLover · 11/05/2011 11:28

Hi everyone, Ive been absent for quite some time now.

I have had issues with a cyst (that is now 1cm Grin) but still giving me pain so been off work on sick since 18 weeks. Other than that pregnancy has been going fine, just tired.

However on Friday I got woken up at 2am with really bad cramping but managed to get back to sleep, but woke up to a bit of bleeding :( L&D checked me out, did tests/swabs etc and all are clear. Only just been discharged from consultant led care for my cyst and now been transfered back to them :( however I they are doing an extra scan in 3 weeks to make sure cyst/fetal growth is fine.

On a better note Ive just booked my 4D scan for DP and DSD to come with me to Grin DSD is only 5 but shes so excited which is lovely.

Really need to start buying stuff now, we already have a cot from DSD which will just need a clean and a new matress. My parents are giving us money towards a pram which is a godsend, so all I need to get is a moses basket and travel cot :) Starting to get excited now Grin

KTisPG · 11/05/2011 11:32

MrsS hope you and the Poddingtons are ok.

Leilandi Hugs - that sounds awful. Glad you're on the mend and being well looked after.

Wishwales hope you're doing ok.

I've just worked out that with bank holidays, I've only got 4 full weeks at work left. Yay!!! I'm planning to take 1 day's leave a week in June and July (not finishing work until end July though - boo). Not that I'm counting you understand. They are still being complete sh*ts (deliberately not sharing information I need to do my job, suddenly pulling my travel budget, not inviting me to meetings then complaining when I don't attend etc etc) and I'm having to minute everything in case I have to try to prove victimisation but that's so tricky as basically its my word against theirs. Roll on maternity leave I say

OP posts:
SelinaDoula · 11/05/2011 16:02

Recovering from a cold today, been doing a bit too much I think so took the day off.
Saw the midwife at last and all well. BP is ok and she thinks baby is head down. baby was jumping all over the place so fetal heart was high but she thought it was ok.
Got to go and see the conultant midwife to have my homebirth agreed and then back to midwife in a month.

Firawla · 11/05/2011 17:51

i got call from midwife today, gtt came back border line so i think it will be considered as tho i do have diabetes from now? i had to go in and get the machine thing to monitor blood sugar, and been transfered over to consultant care, so wont b able to go in birth centre etc :(
and then she did antenatal apt aswel and said oh ur baby is back to back, obviously there is loads of time for him to turn around before then anyway, so may not be an issue but just think oh great, another one back to back probs having to be induced, just like my ds1, whos birth was not good at all. just what i need.. was really hoping for a nice simple birth like ds2
measured bump tho and said it was measuring okay, but will have to have growth scan in a couple of weeks
so am a bit down about this but i suppose it will be okay

Yukana · 11/05/2011 18:05

Thank you MrsV for clearing that up.

Firawla I'll take a look at the site later on today! Sorry to hear about your news, big hugs from me. :( I don't really know what back to back means, all I've heard that it can cause problems during the birth. Let's hope that she/he will turn and everything will be all right.

Got a call from the hospital today, I've had low iron for at least the past ten years - most of my life if not all of it. My doctor has never prescribed iron tablets for me, and DP thinks she's a useless twunt wrong for it but nothing you can do right now. My blood tests came back with very low iron results so they want me to be tested again (probably regularly), for me to be prescribed iron tablets and for me to go in to have an iron transfusion (I think transfusion was the word?) at the hospital. Bit nervous but I hope everything will be all right. Baby hasn't kicked much the past couple of days but she's definitely kicking nonetheless. My midwife appointment is on the 18th so I hope all goes well.
