also can I be nosy at your boys names - we're 99% stuck on ours but i'm still looking to be sure.

Firawla · 07/05/2011 19:47

carrie i might try and train him up a bit more on his scooter, i see a lot of people seem to use those to speed their kids up but so far he's not really taken to it that much, when we take it out he uses for 5 min then i end up having to keep it on the top of the buggy while he just walks. although maybe i need to buy a better one. not sure about bikes because if he leaves them to just walk then that is quite big for me to shove on the top of the buggy!

KLou111 · 07/05/2011 20:19

DTM our boys name is Ewan, although I actually said to DH today we need another as I'm starting to think what if he doesn't look like a Ewan (if a boy). I quite like Lucas (Luke) but our neighbours youngest son is called Iwan (Ewan) and his son from previous marriage is Luke so think we'll have to think twice lol, and DH not too keen on it anyway (until I mentioned Luke Skywalker/George Lucas then he was interested :))
Defo Ava or Holly for a girl :)

davidtennantsmistress · 07/05/2011 20:21

lol. I like those, but DP isn't keen, he loves Indianna Hmm lol. but the one of choice atm is Wyatt.

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/05/2011 20:40

Thank you for alerting me to that human body prog, I've just watched it on iplayer and it was amazing (could have done with slightly less focus on the lap dancers though!). I really like the guy presenting it, and I thought that lady who had triplets was so nice, she's gonna be a brilliant mum. Suddenly in awe and wonder again at the miracle of being pregnant, and starting thinking that 'only' a year to get pg is pretty impressive given all the obstacles in the way of it happening!
DH back tomorrow after 12 nights away. I'm now feeling very very pg and in need of help. I'm proud of myself for surviving and the DCs have been fantastic (except last wednesday but we'll scrub that from memory and move on). I'm soooooooooo thankful to my amazing friends but I'm more than ready to have DH's very supportive presence back in our lives! No morning get-ups for me for a very very very long time Grin

davidtennantsmistress · 07/05/2011 20:44

Envy very pleased for you though capp. how longs he been away for? we still have at least 8 weeks before DP is home again if not 13. :(

alibaba76 · 07/05/2011 20:54

I also watched the human body prog after you all talking about it. It was amazing - how lucky are we!

KLou111 · 07/05/2011 21:12

Just been going through names with DH, and quite like Ethan :)

KLou111 · 07/05/2011 21:14

.....and Keiran :) God we could be here a long time!!

davidtennantsmistress · 07/05/2011 21:17

:o lol.

see we did have issac & beau, then korbin, xander, zavier, but now wyatt. either way will have joseph as a middle name, just sort of thinking well what if it doesn't look like a wyatt - DS was going to be jake right up until 2 weeks before he was born then was born & was baby X for 2 days as we couldn't decide for him.

KLou111 · 07/05/2011 21:28

Lol, pain in the arse ain't it!! I thought we were all sorted here :)
Thing is you think of a name you like then you think of who you know with that name!
Quite like Curtis/Kurtis but friends friend is Kurt arrrrrrgh!!!

majormoo · 07/05/2011 21:38

wishwales glad you are hanging on in there.
Hersetta sorry about your job. I was made redundant when pregnant with my dd and what would have been my maternity pay was included in my (tax free) redundancy payment. I would assume that they will have to pay it to you.

CappuccinoCarrie · 07/05/2011 22:28

Aw davidtennantsmistress that really sucks, how are you doing? I've only had to cope with 12 days! Skype is a glorious thing in terms of keeping up with silly mundane things in each other's lives, but I miss having cuddles, and the DCs have become a bit clingy to me incase I pop out and don't come back for a fortnight!
We're still arguing undecided about names, what's the betting DH comes back from Mexico with an idea even more 'interesting' than Winston...?!

neverlookback · 07/05/2011 22:45

aw thanks for the advice on p&T's think im gonna get a 2nd hand one, ds was 10lb3 so expecting another big one this time so i dont think i will be using for cacoon for too long anyway, i could sell me bugaboo and easily have enough to get a really decent on, maybe even a new but i would like to keep that one too for when just baby with me as its a lovely carrycot but im gonna need a pram shed to keep them all in haha.

Yukana im reses neg too ive had the injections with both prev preg, as far as i can remember its in the leg or at least the one after baby was born was and a bit stingy but over in seconds and no side effects, worth having it done in my opinion, 1 less thing to worry about, sort ur birth plan out whenever you want, mine gets smaller and smaller every time!! my basic wishes are, water birth, G&A, to be left alone! Dad to cut cord and tell me sex and baby straight to me. thats it, i didnt get water birth last time but was in the bath till started pushing.

JenniL1977 · 08/05/2011 08:06

Omg, I've just had to read 3 pages and I only checked in last on Friday! I think if we had a meet up no-one would get a word in edgeways :)

Hersetta grrrr at your employers. I have no experience of this though, sorry, hope your lawyer is a good one and can take them for some serious amounts of money for you. Hope you're not feeling bad about it either though, it's rubbish to put that amount of work into something and then be 'cast aside' - it's not your fault.

Never completely sympathise about errant husbands, I have this exact comment on facebook at the mo! DH is taking full advantage of his last 3 months of freedom, and our friend in Harrogate is too (they're big drinking buddies). Monday they went out at 1 for a couple of drinks- came home at 9 utterly leathered; I'm not that fussed about this but DH was doing that ring me every hour and say he'll be home "after this pint" thing, which just annoys me. Then he went out on Friday night and I think it must have been 4.30 when he staggered through the door- fell asleep on the landing of all fucking places! - then got pissed off when I got up at 6 (after a shit nights sleep because I can't sleep when I don't know where he is) and tried to make him go to bed! Idiot. We had some serious words yesterday... :) then I rang his sister and she gave him a world of shit as well :)

Anyhoo! Enough whinging, back to baby stuff. Yukana have they tested your OH's blood group? It seems they're doling out anti-D injections when they're unnecessary because they don't know the father's blood type so if you're negative, they just give it anyway (it is biologically impossible to have a rhesus positive baby if you are both negative).

Re playmats and stuff, we've got a baby gym (picked up for a fiver at a nearly new sale!), haven't thought about bouncers yet. We need the cot mattress and buggy first! Mobiles though- deffo getting one; we bought one for our nephew when he was born and he still uses it now (he's 2 on Tuesday) - he doesn't have the actual mobile attachment anymore but the bit that plays the music is in his cot with him and he uses it to put himself back to sleep when he wakes in the night. It also means he has something familiar when SIL takes him places- if his music is on he settles v quickly in strange houses.

The new midwives I'm seeing in Harrogate are awesome- so much nicer than Leeds! I guess they're just less busy, but I booked in fully on Friday and honestly, you'd think I was the very first patient my midwife had ever seen she was so enthusiastic and she must be 55 if she's a day. She's usually the midwife sent on homebirths as well so I'm going to be ok, I think :) she was so supportive and happy about it, she said they haven't got many august babies in the system as well so availability should be good for when I go into labour.

wishwales hope you're ok and LO is still in there. MrsS those babies are giving you some grief, aren't they- hope all is looking better on the scans next week. All love to both of you

I have a feeling this is a huge post... Sorry!

Yukana · 08/05/2011 10:27

I'll be asking my midwife lots of questions at my next appointment, but she's a lovely lady so I'm glad about that. I think I see her next week.

Thank you for the information regarding the injection, I think DP's blood type is O positive, but he isn't sure. Better safe than sorry I suppose! I'm slowly trying to work out my birth plan, it'll get there eventually and I hope I can get some information about various procedures from my midwife.

I'm feeling absolutely huge! I'm getting so many 'It's going to be a large baby, isn't it?' or 'You've got a large bump!' comments from people. Baby is apparently growing completely normally, so I guess it's just extra fluid.
I've been having troubles getting in and out of bed, and doing chores. I feel more like 35+ weeks than almost 27 weeks to be honest!

Question about water home births - Does anyone know what costs are involved? Apart from hiring the pool itself. I'm looking forward to having a water birth but with hospitals only having one pool it's not really looking good!

KLou111 · 08/05/2011 10:41

Not sure about any additional costs Yukana re home water births. We're looking into it too. Really want to go in if I can get in the pool at the hospital though, with it being our first and all I'm really Hmm about having him/her at home, as lovely (and more convenient) it would be.
I think really it just the pool that would cost. Would seriously look into buying rather than hiring, as you may hire one for a couple of weeks, baby doesn't come, and end up hiring it for longer and it ends up costing more than if you just bought one IYSWIM :)

Yukana · 08/05/2011 11:58

That's exactly how I feel KLou. I definitely want a water birth but I'm very nervous about having a home birth for my first. Especially considering if I am still living where I am now, it's not only on the top floor of an apartment building but I don't know where we'd have room for it!

JenniL1977 · 08/05/2011 12:09

Yukana google "birth in a box" - everyone recommends these. I'll find you a link in a sec. This is what we're getting. As long as you're not over 5'9" you'll be good with this, they're really small and wouldn't take up much space once up even if your flat is small. Much cheaper than hiring one and you've got it for the next time, and the time after then :) you just need to buy a new liner for it for subsequent births.
Talk to your midwife and get on the homebirth thread on here as well, really positive stories. You can always plan a homebirth and then show up at the hospital if it all gets too scary or too much for you. I think it's just about having an open mind about your labour and birth- I have an ideal but if it all goes tits up then so be it, as long as she and me are safe in the end.

JenniL1977 · 08/05/2011 12:11

birth in a box

KLou111 · 08/05/2011 12:24

That's the one I was looking at JenniL Only concern I would have for you Yukana is the weight of the it once filled with water if you are on the top floor Hmm you don't want to come crashing down on your neighbours below!
We had a water bed years ago and we had to get our house checked that we could have it lol

KLou111 · 08/05/2011 13:17

Those using reusable nappies, what size bucket have you bought/do you have? Planning to wash every other day (have 20 nappies so far) but not sure how big a bucket I will need. Have seen a regular white lidded bucket on ebay 28l, most nappy buckets are 16l. Should I get a bigger one??

JenniL1977 · 08/05/2011 13:52

You're v sensible KLou :) I hadn't even thought of that! Yep, you don't want to be landing on your downstairs neighbour mid-contraction, that would suck!

MrsVidic · 08/05/2011 14:43

Hi all,

Well I have had a very eventful day. Dp was running the Leeds half marathon and dd and I tagged along to watch. Que me callopsing in the Que to get a coffee ! I ended up in st johns ambulance tent, where they repeated what I already knew (low blood pressure/ nothing can be done). I was mortified and got really scared as dd was running around when I fainted.

Any way I feel fine now, it was actually quite funny seeing the guys face when I reeled off the mammoth list of what I have eaten today when he tried to suggest maybe I hadn't eaten enough!

I think the human body is amazing, just as I was feeling guilty about having today off the gym and feeling fat ( im pushing a weight gain of nearly 2 stone) my body gives me a reality check!

konatsu · 08/05/2011 15:34

Hi there!
KLou here www.mother-ease.co.uk/product/233/h0703/the-british-bucket-14-litre-lidded-nappy.html
they say that 14ltr bucket holds a full load of nappies. So 28ltr should be OK for every other day washing. I would like to use the reusable nappies, I'm a little bit worried if I'll be able to cope with it Hmm? let?s see.

MrsVidic, hope u?re feeling better. It?s really scary when it happens.
