Firawla just because you're consultant care does not mean you can't give birth in birthing centre or even at home. Especially "only" being borderline and the fact that it'll hopefully be well controlled... the www.homebirth.org.uk website explains your rights more.

Bryher · 11/05/2011 18:41

MrsV I've lost a couple of posts like that before, I now write in a Notepad file and save it if it's long, then copy and paste it in at last minute, cos it's so annoying to write everything and then lose it! Glad to hear about your DP's promotion, but rubbish about his annual leave - I hope he gets to take some soon?! Yay for the successful potty training.

RugbyWidow Ours is still in the box too, no space for it yet, and nursery needs painting etc, we are prob getting a laminate floor and rugs in case of allergies rather than a carpet. Still, it's nice to make a start on the big purchases :) hooray for selling the car, am trying to persuade DH to sell his, thought he'd agreed but he's getting a bit reluctant now... Hope your friends were trying to be diplomatic about your bump!!

WinterLover All sounds v stressful, hugs, hope cyst behaves itself and scan goes well. enjoy 4D scan, sounds great!

KTisPGSorry to hear your work is still being evil, writing it all down sounds like a good plan, at least the end is in sight now!

Selina Good all is going well :)

Firawla Sorry to hear about your GTT result :( If it's borderline I guess it may depend how your continued readings go, are you seeing consultant soon to talk about it? Maybe if things improve you could ask to go to birthcentre at later stage? I already got told I can't go to midwife birth centre as I'm overweight, it seems a bit mad that I could insist on a home birth but am not allowed to go to birth centre! Think the growth scan is a standard thing if they suspect diabetes, as one of main issues is baby gets too big. Hope little one turns round soon! I have heard (don't know how good evidence is) that lying on your left hand side is meant to help your baby settle in the right position, and that sitting/bouncing on a birthing can help encourage them too - could be worth trying those? hugs and hope you feel less down about it soon

Firawla · 11/05/2011 18:41

oh thanks i will have a look. i asked the midwife but she said like oh no, won't be able to go in birth centre now at all. as they need to keep in for minimum 24 hours after birth to monitor all the blood sugars and the birth centre is 6 hrs discharge. i suppose if has to be labour ward ill not be tooo bothered as ive not been in a birth centre for either of my other 2, but i was quite looking forward to it if i had the chance. just really would like to avoid being induced though, as worried about being induced exactly on 40 weeks both my previous ones were well overdue so i doubt this one would come of his own accord before 40 weeks, then just thinking if induced so early like that it would be quite risky for ending up with a c section which i reallyyy do not want as I dunno how i could look after all 3 of them while having to recover for 6 weeks or so! but maybe if its managed and controlled really well ill be able to avoid all that and it will go fairly smoothly...

yukana i have never heard of an iron transfusion! i hope it goes well

Firawla · 11/05/2011 18:46

bryher i didnt know the lying on lefthand side thing, i will give it a try. my first was back to back and i think it can be partly due to lounging around too much?! which as he was my first obviously i had more chance to lounge around as no other little ones to run after but this time i dont get so much opertunity for that so was hoping it would not be an issue

i am seeing consultant in a couple of weeks, i think instead of community midwifes they are going to do all my appointments up at the hosp and see consultants?

that is a bit silly just to ban the birth centre for being overweight, i think it varies with hospitals cos my bmi is into the overweight too but they said that is fine for the birth centre, if there wasnt ne issues like diabetes then i would have been allowed in no problem. did you have your gtt today?

KLou111 · 11/05/2011 19:52

Yukana I've got a couple of lovely soft fleece blankets from George, think were only about £4.

Hope everyone is ok. Feel huge today! All that chocolate!!

Bryher · 11/05/2011 19:53

Firawla This info on optimum positioning may help, it came from the homebirth link daisysair posted, thanks daisysair, really interesting reading www.homebirth.org.uk/ofp.htm Apparently hands and knees sticking bum in the air can help, v elegant! I don't know how early the trying to encourage a good position helps, it may be third trimester, my main info came from the vendors of the dreamgenii pillow who were trying to sell their product and said it could help your baby settle in optimum position - so I am a little skeptical! Maybe someone else has more info? I don't think lounging around in itself is a problem, but e.g. sitting with your feet up is more likely to lead to posterior presentation (which I think is same as back to back). Unfortunately, although I keep trying to do what I'm meant to, e.g. sleep on my left side; I really struggle and get hip pain, and end up on my back again so I am not v good at practising what I preach!

I am under consultant care (weight and family history of diabetes), but still seeing community midwives too, so that doesn't necessarily follow, depends what they've told you. I haven't seen same community midwife once, and it was the first, grumpy one, who told me that my BMI ruled me out of the birth centre. TBH, my hospital experiences so far have been much better than my community midwife experiences, the staff have all been much friendlier! I am waiting to see how I get on with GTT (it was today, if there's a problem they'll ring me before next Monday evening) and how my blood pressure goes - if I seem to be doing OK when I am further into third trimester I may ask again about birthing centre. Though I'm not sure as don't want to rule out epidural entirely, I'm a wuss

KTisPG · 11/05/2011 20:28

Arrggg, just lost my post too!

Firawla you can always refuse to be induced and ask for regular (daily if necessary) monitoring instead. Especially if you know you bake long iyswim. It might also be worth talking to your consultant midwife who may be more flexible. I was told last time that I couldn't have the birth centre, but at 39 weeks when I was insisting on homebirth, they practically begged me to go to the birth centre instead LOL.

I think back to back presentation is an issue because all babies have to have their back to your front before they can be born, so if your baby is back to back it has to turn before it can enter the birth canal because babies are always born facing your bottom. Because they have to turn it can make labour longer and more painful.

MrsVidic · 11/05/2011 20:35

Regarding positioning my tip is a gym ball. I got one in my usual work out gear but use it loads in late preg as they are really comfy when the baby engages. Also I swear it made my labour quick and straight forward

ohanotherone · 11/05/2011 20:42

Agree with Mrs. Vidic re birth ball and also lying on left side.

Firawla · 11/05/2011 21:05

might have to buy a gym ball, do you even sit on it like when you watch tv and stuff mrs v? and do you find that comfy
now i think about it i have been actually sitting with my feet up to watch tv..
kt i know you can refuse induction but they said like the baby will get big and shoulders can get stuck etc is why they have to induce?? so obviously i wouldnt want that to happen either
and i have done my blood sugar reading this evening but i dont understand the result it seems wrong?! so i am confused, and feel in a right mood with all this now.

neverlookback · 11/05/2011 21:24

firwala just want to say that i feel really similar to you about induction etc, i have my gtt in a couple of weeks hoping it will be ok, i was 11 days over with dd but went naturally but induced with ds which was fine in the end and only needed gel then went natural but as he was 10lb3 they say they may induce me at 38 weeks or on time and im petrified of needing the drip or god help a c sec, so i know how you feel, fingers crossed all will be well for both of us x

Firawla · 11/05/2011 21:27

yeah I am just hoping that if I did need to be induced then just the pessary would be enough, I had the drip with ds1, had an epidural with it so didn't feel the extra pain but its just the idea of having to be stuck on the bed and ending up with interventions etc
hope your gtt goes well and comes back okay! inducing at 38 weeks seems quite OTT, not even giving a chance to get to your due date?!

MrsStevo · 11/05/2011 21:28

I'm back! Just had a loooooooong day trip to Birmingham Women's Hosp where we saw our lovely consultant there again. He scanned the babies and said that yes they do have different fluid levels, but both are still in normal ranges and basically there's nothing to panic about. He doesn't think it is TTTS re-developing (THANK GOD!!!) and just wants me to be monitored weekly. He did say that if the fluid levels of one of the babies does go over 10cm then that would be a worry and they would look at amnio-drainage but he made no mention of super-early delivery Grin

SO relieved ... and SOOOOO exhausted!! It is all just so emotionally draining, particularly when sleeping seems to be a thing of the past.

We're going back to Birmingham for our next scan - next Wed - but that was our decision as we're starting to lose faith a bit in Lincoln Hosp.

Sorry for self-indulgent post, I haven't had a chance to catch up on all your news but I will tomorrow. Time to eat fish and chips and watch the Apprentice (god bless sky+)!!!

SelinaDoula · 11/05/2011 22:04

Yeah MrsS Glad there is good news for you and your twins
Firawla I wouldn't worry too much about your baby being back to back, plenty of time to turn. My DD was back to back too, so I've been seeing a chiropractor in case its something to do with my pelvis.
I use this site loads too, lots of tips for pregnancy and labour-

bettyboo83 · 11/05/2011 23:27

Yey Mrs S, that's great news Grin
I tend to sit with my feet up because we have a recliner sofa - now I'm thinking I should be bouncing on a gym ball!
I saw the midwife yesterday who measured me, etc. I had glucose in my urine so had to have a rpt test today which was thankfully clear. Even better, my liver test was fine too. I took my Mum to the appt and she got all weepy when they listened to the HB!
4 days until the third trimester! Woohoo!

neverlookback · 12/05/2011 10:26

brilliant news mrss not self indulgent at all we are all keen to know how you are x

firawla I know it is totally OTT, i dont mind being left till 42 weeks, i dont think this baba is going to be as big at all, my bump so far is tiny compared to my other 2, and anyway i gave birth naturally with no stitches so i can deliver big babies! (blush)

MorningsMadness · 12/05/2011 11:33

Woohoo MrsS, great news and consultant sounds lovely.

MorningsMadness · 12/05/2011 11:34

Btw, any suggestions on how to deal with really sore throat with only the odd useless paracetomol? Feeling wretched and bump going mad - not sure which girl it is but think they're both going to be hyper on arrival!

KLou111 · 12/05/2011 12:20

Third trimester today wooohooooo!!!
Celebrated by ordering our pram/travel set, soooooooo excited now Grin

Re sore throat mornings no advice sorry except don't talk lol! That's what I always get told. Wink

So glad everything OK with the pods MrsS :)

Think we need to set up a new forum (not cos we're full here) but cos were all coming up to third trimester.
Think should be 'Due August 2011, third and final trimester here we come!!!!'

KLou111 · 12/05/2011 12:24

Sod it, I've done it!!! Exciting times ladies, exciting times!!!!

aStarInStrangeways · 12/05/2011 12:46

MorningsMadness hot water, lemon juice and honey always soothes a sore throat for me. Or gargling with soluble aspirin, but that's probably not recommended when up the duff.

daisysair · 12/05/2011 13:14

morning madness you can take cocodamol during pregnancy (occasionally) which is heftier than paracetemol by itself (codeine added to the mix) adding caffeine (cup of tea/coffee) speeds up the uptake too. pharmacist should be able to advise if there's anything more throat specific.

mrs S :D that you have such a lovely consultant!

is 27 weeks officially 3rd trimester?? or 28??

Annie456 · 12/05/2011 15:07

I'm only 24+4! Feel like i'm running way behind trying to catch you all up!
Reluctantly marking my place having just realised that i'm going to be here all on my own at the end while you are all snuggling your bundles Sad

KLou111 · 12/05/2011 15:40

Most say 27-42 daisy so that's what I'm going off :)
