Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

Liv77 · 27/02/2011 21:22

Glad the cold coke worked for you Kits Grin Well done Iliketo for suggesting it. You should definately win top poster of the week if such a thing exists. Smile

Cyclebump · 27/02/2011 22:00

You'd never had a full-fat coke?!?!

My God woman, thank goodness you got pg or else you'd have never had the pleasure!

Glad to hear it put your mind at rest Smile

kitstwins · 27/02/2011 23:21

No surprise - I'm WIIIIIIIDE AWAKE!!!

Nope! I've never had a full fat coke but then I've only ever had a lone diet coke (on hols years ago when didn't trust any of the festering local beverages on offer...). I suspect I may be unusual in this. I've also only ever had one MacDonalds, when I was 11 at a friend's birthday party (I ordered some terrible fish thing and a nuclear hot apple napalm pie. This is odd right?

Anyway. I am never, ever having coke again as I'm wide awake and have ridiculous and disproportionate amounts of energy. Maybe it's psychoschomatic (too wired to spellcheck that!) as I only drank a glass but I feel as if I want to put up bookshelves or a garden shed or something.

Will listen to my hypnobirthing CD and see if that calms me down. Jesus! Baby has also gone berserk - feet all over the place.

Seriously, what do they put in coke? Is it the sugar?

LisMcA · 27/02/2011 23:26

Oscars are on in 5 minutes! that is how i am spending my evening!!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 28/02/2011 03:44

It's the caffeine/sugar combo! Hope you're sleeping peacefully now, kits. You're not all that weird though. I don't eat McD's (or any kind of fast food) and I've only had coffee and diet/normal coke a few times in my life because I think my system must be hyper-sensitive to caffeine. If I have it in any great concentration I'm buzzing for hours after.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 28/02/2011 09:28

Did you get any sleep kits?! I have visions of this wild eyed heavily pregnant woman wondering around the house on a sugar high!!

Apologies if you had a restless night, but I'm glad it got the baby moving!

Off to the GP's today as I think ds has an eye infection. If only I was lactating, I would squirt him in the eye and we wouldn't need to go!

Cyclebump · 28/02/2011 10:01

Morning gang! I am KNACKERED today.

Part of me is relieved that I'm not home surveying the carnage caused by the kitchen refit and part of me wants to be on maternity leave in bed with the cats. Eugh.

I also reckon I have a return of the dreaded morning sickness Sad

Still, five days' to go until maternity leave, hurray!

stuffedmk · 28/02/2011 10:08

lol at coke buzz kits hope you got some sleep.

I have put on just over half a stone in the last two weeks Shock I think it's down to lots of orange juice to try and help the iron absorption, plus the need for full fat coke that has developed recently, plus a few too many sweet treats including those microwave flapjacks...just too easy to make. I think I have also suddenly got a bit more puffy so a certain amount is probably water retention.
Fingers crossed the weight gain slows a bit, was quite pleased with myself up until now....not about to start dieting or anything Wink but I am really feeling the extra weight aswell, am knackered!!!

ILikeTo Breast milk? Eye infection? Cure? Blimey, I've heard it all now lol

caramellokoalalover · 28/02/2011 10:18

kits are you still awake? I'm jealous of the Coke high you've had actually, would be good to add a bit of zip to get through the things I've got to do today. Sadly I think I've abused the power of the Coke this pregnancy and now I get a few minutes of feeling good then it's all over and I'm in the post-sugar crash.

Return of the ms is giving me a 3rd trimester weight loss special. Weird to be losing weight at this stage rather than gaining but I'm not complaining...I'll have more biscuit and cake allowance postnatally Grin

stuffedmk · 28/02/2011 10:18

Hmmm also need to report something DH said to me last night. Deep in his sleeping pill haze he says to me, if we got the carport built in we'd have somewhere to put a third kid Shock me thinks he is testing me or just saying this while I feel like absolute crap so that he can get an answer of "NO WAY" or similar....He then goes on to say "well I guess we'll have to just put our bed in the spare room, it would be a bit crowded with everything else thats in there though" Hmm starts thinking of ways to fund building work Grin I am clearly crazy.

stuffedmk · 28/02/2011 10:20

caramel Am Envy of the weight loss but I'll take weight gain over ms

Daisy17 · 28/02/2011 10:31

Glad to hear it's not just me that is feeling knackered and sick again - I feel horrible this morning, very glad we have a quiet day at school, only exam candidates in so only two lessons to teach. Supposed to be doing this for another three weeks.....I know intellectually this is a good idea, and far better for my mental health than sitting home alone all day but I do wish my body would get the idea and co-operate.... :>(

kitstwins · 28/02/2011 11:57

Interesting night. Needed the loo about a billion times and slept quite strangely but actually did manage to go to sleep. I think this is down to the peaceful dronings on my hypnobirthing CD. Half an hour of that and I'm so bored I nod off. Hopefully it will have a similarly catatonic effect in labour and I will be miraculously unaware of the pain... .

Have been goggling at Oscar dresses this morning and sympathising with Natalie Portman. My dresses ride up at the front now too, but this is where our similarities end.

Agreed on breastmilk as a cure-all. Great for sore/chapped nipples and gunky eyes on newborns and even mild nappy rash. 'Tis powerful stuff!

Sassy20 · 28/02/2011 12:04

Does anyone have any recommendations for baby slings? One of my friends said baby bjorn one but then another said not!!!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 28/02/2011 12:21

Nooo not a bjorn carrier. Death for your back, not that supportive for babies and nowhere near as flexible as a 'proper' sling.

I have a natya ring sling and a wrap and am eyeing up the mei-tai or maybe the ergo for later.

OP posts:
Cyclebump · 28/02/2011 12:32

Anyone know about Kari-Mes?

I saw a lady with a teeny newborn in a sling around Christmas time and he looked so cosy I stopped her to ask what it was. It was a Kari Me.

Thaney · 28/02/2011 12:59

Has anyone else found their tolerance of other people's stupidity has hit rock bottom?

I only have 4.5 days left at work and I really ought to be able to rise above it but everyone in the office is pissing me off!

I'm not sure about getting a sling, I have crippling back ache as it is and can't wait till I can put little on in to a pram. DH is very keen of getting one for him though so if anyone has any tips for a blokey looking one they would be greatfully received.

sats1977 · 28/02/2011 13:09

Just been catching up on this new thread...Wow, congratulations to Jo for being the first one & I hope you and the baby are doing well!

I too managed to wash all the baby clothes this weekend, we've received so many from friends who have recently had babies and also got lots as presents for Christmas....They are all so tiny and lovely, I can't believe I get to dress my real baby boy in them very soon!

I've been feeling pretty well, although now have developed the carpal tunnel syndrome in my hands...they go numb every night and I have to spend 10 mins each morning to get them functioning! My fingers then keep cramping during the day and are quite sore. So annoying.

My sister is arranging a baby shower for me next weekend, really looking forward to it. We're having a brunch type of thing at our house with the girls and the husbands are being banished in the pub to watch the rugby (a plan they seem rather happy about!). Is anyone else having baby showers?

Alibabaandthe40nappies · 28/02/2011 13:09

We've got a Baby Bjorn which DH used loads with DS and they both loved it. I had a Closer carrier which I hated and never felt sure that DS wasn't going to fall out.
I want to get a ring sling that I can use to BF, need to make a decision.

BeetleBaby · 28/02/2011 13:22

Gah, just indulged a craving for mango. One mango later and I'm moaning with indigestion, tasted good though Grin

I also get to add impetigo to the joys of pregnancy. Got a lovely patch on my face/chin right by my mouth. Doctor said it's quite common to be suseptible (sp?) in pregnancy because your body is working overtime growing a baby. Lovely antibiotic cream for me (and to avoid transferring it; no snogging DH Wink Sad )

kits I'm glad you got some sleep. I hate coke (full fat or diet) makes me hyper and it tastes horrid to me. Strangely I love Irn Bru and Dr Pepper which most people Hmm at...

thaney You're not alone, everyone at work p'eed me off at some point over the last month or so. They were probably as glad to get rid of me as I was to start maternity leave!

I think I'm going to wait on getting a sling till baby is here (and my back/SPD has eased off) so that we can try some out and find one that suits me, DH and baby.

JustKeepSwimming · 28/02/2011 13:38

No baby shower here, though we have everything we need for baby anyway so no point really.

I have loads of slings, my aim this time is to learnt to feed with one, i know a mum at school that did so will be asking her for tips as i never managed it before.

From what i've read the baby bjorn style ones hold the baby in a sort of sitting position before they are ready, so better for later on.

Got dodgy tummy here, think it's the bug DS2 had as various other people saying they have it too so not pg-related.

Piles...well under control, for now, will get a docs appt at some point this week.

Cyclebump · 28/02/2011 13:47

My sister's throwing me a baby shower in a couple of weeks. She really wanted to so I capitulated on the condition that it was clear that presents are NOT compulsory.

TBH I'm looking forward to seeing people before I disappear into babyhood for a while!

Another group of friends ambushed me with pressies on Saturday, I was so touched I nearly burst into tears!

I'll have to wait until the new kitchen's plumbed in before I can start washing things in earnest!

lucielooo · 28/02/2011 13:56

As part of our nct classes they did a demo on slings, and I thought the kari-me looked the best (for me). It looks like it's the most comfy for baby because you can wrap them right up in it and because the sling wraps round your body it looks like their weight might be quite well distributed. I also like it because you can put the sling on, and then put baby in it which seems easier to me when you're on your own than putting baby in sling and then trying to fix it to yourself. But having said that, I haven't physically tried any of them and I got the impression it's a personal thing. She also said what JKS says that baby bjorn etc are not so good for little babies because of the position they're in.

AussieMum2Be · 28/02/2011 14:56

I?m so tired, slept particularly bad last night with about 1000 bathroom trips(slight exaggeration) and just been generally really un-comfortable recently sitting and lying down, also my left ear has been blocked for about a month now, it clears in the evenings but seriously all day I can only hear everyone in echo, it actually makes me a little nauseous ! Anyone else had this ?

On to non-moany news, bought some Perineal Gel which DP massaged in the other night, sorry for TMI. Wasn?t really very sexy anyway and he was into the no pain, no gain method, I thought if this hurts, whats child birth going to be like !!

SNAP - for nappy fold demo's try www.thenappylady.co.uk she does demonstration video's, ive copied them all.

MisMcA - Loved the piles link, so funny I read twice !

Sarahjinx - I love the name Nathaniel

LittleMilla I also love Sebastian and Bastian which was the little boy in Neverending Storys name so always liked that from when I was a much younger.

Caramel Love cake recipe, was sold when i saw Margherita Cream, I looovvvee Margheritas, wonder if this is ok as will be breast-feeding ?

Lucieloo Ive also got ages left at work, Im ambitiously trying to work till my due date so I've got a whopping 6 weeks left, don?t know if I?ll actually last that long, but gonna give it a go, as I think I might get bored at home

and Cycle I bought the Kari Me sling, seems easy enough to tie around myself but this is my 1st so no practical experience yet, but its nice and stretchy and the material feels nice. Got a neutral navy blue so DP is also happy to use as well.

Well, that seems like a huge post, have a good week all
