Executive decision that at 987 posts we're moving over!

New challenge - can we fill up 1000 posts before the first babies arrive, given that we managed to keep our legs crossed all through the last one?!

First babies are due, officially, next month but are there any in such a hurry to see the world that they can beat our chatting?

Thanks Cycle and kitty, thats made up my mind, im asking for a Pacapod, im excited already ! Now which one to ask for ?! Just need a changing mat now and I think im pretty much finished all the main buying needs

Could you use the Pacapod as a labour bag to take to the hospital do you think ? will have to bring nappys and food/drink anyway so would it be big enough ?

kittycatcat · 24/02/2011 13:59

Hmm not sure re hospital bag. You could deffo take it as babys bag and have one for you. I have the napier.

Cyclebump · 24/02/2011 14:01

I don't think it would work as a hospital bag. Oh and changing mat wise, my PacaPod came with one. Unless you mean the full on one for changing table kind of thing.

Petalouda · 24/02/2011 14:24

Ooh, pacapods look brill - I've added one to my amazon wishlist! I can dream!

SarahJinx · 24/02/2011 14:40

Ladies, I have yet to buy the changing bag and had my eye on a Storksak or a Pacapod, which Pacapod did you all get?

wish Mulberry did them.....

kittycatcat · 24/02/2011 14:45

I got the grey (black) pacapod napier www.pacapod.com/shop/nappy-changing-bag-tote-napier?option=black

NotAnotherNewNappy · 24/02/2011 15:33

Congratulations Jo! Wishing you and your little boy lots of health and happiness, including a quick recovery from the birth xxx

Cyclebump · 24/02/2011 15:36

I got this Pacapod but in teal.

As I said, I eBayed for mine and got it half-price including postage.

kittycatcat · 24/02/2011 15:40

Love a bargain cycle

lucielooo · 24/02/2011 15:42

Hello April ladies - can you help me with something please? I'll try not to bore on for too long as I've already started a seperate thread about it - but I'm trying to decide whether to be worried about getting chicken pox from my niece or not (came out yesterday for her). Basically I've had it 3 times previously so do you think this means I am more or less likely to be immune now? I know you are only supposed to get it once but obviously hasn't worked like that for me! I don't know if this means some people just don't develop sufficient immunity to certain diseases or if I've just been unlucky and it's incredibly unlikely that I'd get it again? Do you see what I mean? I have spoken to the nurse at my gp's surgery but she doesn't seem to understand what I mean Confused

Cyclebump · 24/02/2011 15:49

Ok, I work on a medical mag and we covered chickenpox in late pregnancy fairly recently. It's not a fab thing to catch in late pregnancy so if you've been exposed, get checked over.

If you've had it more than once you might be able to get it again. I would bypass the nurse (I work for a nursing title and am a little shocked she's not realised it's a bit of a worry for you). I'd ring your antenatal clinic or go to your GP.

The likelihood is that you'll be fine and that nothing will happen but get it checked out just in case I reckon.

If nothing else it'll put your mind at rest.

JustKeepSwimming · 24/02/2011 15:50

Well I would say that you've got enough of it in your system to make you if not immune, then at least with enough of a 'response' that you should be ok.

When you had it each time, did it get worse, did you suffer more with it, or was it weaker each time?

kittycatcat · 24/02/2011 15:57

2 weeks ago a consultant at work got it so HR told us preggers ladies. I called the docs and told them the situation and that i had it mildly when i was young, i was sent for a blood test...

lucielooo · 24/02/2011 15:58

Thanks cycle and JKS :)
cycle the nurse thought it was 'a bit dramatic' to check my immunity so think she must have forgotten what pregnant women are like!

JKS Of the times I've had it, first time was very mild and I think the second two were decent doses, but I can only really remember that last one when I was 15 when I was quite ill.

The nurse did say if I really wanted the blood test 'to confirm that I'd chicken pox' then I could have it, but she clearly thought it was a waste of time. Would you do it anyway? My mum/sister/DP also think I am being over-dramatic so am doubting whether I am being rational or not.. I'm not normally so wet, I think pregnancy really messes with the workings of your brain!

Cyclebump · 24/02/2011 16:12

Ok, I'll nail my colours to the mast! There's a good reason they ask whether you've had chickenpox at your booking in appointment. You are NOT making a fuss and the nurse is being a nob.

I have PM'd you a link.

JustKeepSwimming · 24/02/2011 16:13

What's the worst that can happen with having the test? I mean go and get some blood sucked and find out.

If you are immune, no probs, if not then (well i don't know what happens next), whatever has to happen can happen.

So yes, i'd get the test done :)

Cyclebump · 24/02/2011 16:15

I have PM'd you the section of article Lucilooo. They should test you just in case. You're probably totally fine, but a test takes very little of their time.

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 24/02/2011 16:17

jo wow! Congratulations! I also told my DH and he was getting excited too, then calmed down, looked at me and asked 'who is this woman?'!

Aussie do you have a recommended website with lots of folds and simple instructions? There are sooo many out there and I only know the classic fold but it seems there are more effective ones. Thanks for reminding me we need a changing mat!

cycle I'm going for Nature reusables too. I imported 2 packs in my suitcase and my parents are posting me 2 more.

Sarah with you there - Mulberry totally should. I was eyeing a Ted Baker bag thinking it was big and would fit over a pram handle and had lots of compartments Wink

I do quite like the Pacapod though. It looks very practical and might be good for air travel?

Oh this has been an exciting day!

Just called for my results and they say it says it shows immunity if test taken within 9 days of contact. Useful to know for the future too!

SnapFrakkleAndPop · 24/02/2011 16:24

lucie nurse is being silly - you're not worrying unnecessarily as so e people never develop immunity and it's not good to catch whilst pregnant but if they know they can deal with it.

Good news on your results kitty

kitstwins · 24/02/2011 16:40

Lucie second the others - I'd have a blood test. If you've had chicken pox three times then it would suggest that you have not previously developed an immunity, which would potentially put you at higher risk of developing it again. Of course the last dose could well have been 'strong' enough to give you immunity but I wouldn't second-guess it during pregnancy as it's not ideal to catch. A blood test will a) give you peace of mind, and b) mean that if you are not immune they can treat you accordingly and keep you well and safe.

Bought a few random final things for my hospital bag this afternoon - a headband (hair out of face if I'm huffing and puffing) a mini hairbrush. Just need to get labour snacks now so will stick them on my next Ocado order and try not to eat them.

Top tip for postnatal is buy in lots of bags of almonds for when you have the baby - they're fantastic for boosting milk quality and are obviously full of protein so a good snack for when you're too knackered and busy to eat. I also ate tubs of coconut yoghurt (Rachel's Organic Dairy do the big tubs of it). It's made with cream so great for your milk. Plus, coconut is excellent for milk quality (random but true) so it's a double hit.

Cyclebump · 24/02/2011 17:02

Ooh, good tips Kits! I LOVE almonds.

lucielooo · 24/02/2011 17:04

Thank you so much all of you :) I've phoned the surgery and they're going to get the nurse to call me back in the morning to sort out the paperwork.. Seems much more sensible to be over-cautious than reckless but it does help to hear that from other people sometimes instead of 'oh I'm sure it'll be fine' :) :)

Pleased to hear all ok with your results kitty :)

So back to shopping! kitstwins.. you've got me salivating at the idea of coconut yoghurt now - I [drooling emoticon] Can you get it in any normal supermarket?

LisMcA · 24/02/2011 17:11

Oh Lucie, what a worry! Can't believe the nurse was so dismissive! I would get the test done, like other have said it can't do any harm and will give you piece of mind.

I've wondered if there was anything I should eat to boost my milk quality! Not keen on almonds, but I like the yoghurt!

Buster has today, taken to punching me in the cervix. Sudden movement isn't helping my hip pain! Anyone got any tips on how to get him to shift??

lucielooo · 24/02/2011 17:27

Just used my common sense and looked on the Tesco website for cocount yoghurt, my dear DP is off to the local supermarket to see if they have any, Ahh.

Much better that I start craving coconut yoghurt than all the bloody Cream Eggs I've been eating!
