Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
highheelsandequations · 17/03/2011 18:27

Hi everyone and sorry I've not been around for ages, work has been completely mental!

Congratulations and welcome to Lizzy and Truffkin.

Truffkin avoid blue cheese and cheese with a mouldy rind, make sure you cook meat, eggs and shellfish thoroughly and avoid liver and pate. They're the most important things to remember with food. I found this website useful at first as I kept forgetting whether things were safe. I had quite a few early scans, at 6 weeks there really was nothing much to see, and a few days earlier there was nothing at all there so we had a bit of a scare when the clinic thought pip was ectopic and a very tense time waiting for HCG results and more scans. At 7 weeks you can see a heartbeat, which is the reassurance you need, as if that's seen and everything measures up correctly there's a good chance everything will be okay. I went for a private scan at 10 weeks as I wasn't sure we'd get the 12 week one before Christmas and wanted to check all was fine (still) before sharing the news. The longer you can wait the better I think as the later it gets the more you can see and the more reassurance you get! Hope your GP gives you good advice but be warned, they can be a bit rubbish when you go in to share your news, mine certainly was ("save your questions for the midwife"!) and I believe that's not uncommon.

Lizzy hope you're getting on okay. I know exactly what it's like being terrified in the early days. This is my 2nd pg after I had a mmc years ago and I spent the first three months so scared that I was going to lose this baby too. It does get easier as time passes though and everyone here was lovely through my (many) panics.

Toria glad the booking appointment went well and you're doing fine.

slowshow glad you've had reassuring results. I looked for empire line tunics before I needed to go into proper maternity clothes, actually picked up a couple of nice ones from tesco and asda and saw some in H&M and new look. ASOS do some good maternity stuff that's not too expensive and their plain tops/t-shirts don't need too much of a bump. I also love mamas and papas for basic maternity tops.

cherry 3 weeks wow!! Shock

bunny and jolly thanks for sharing your birth plans. I can't believe that I'll actually have to write one in the near future, time is flying just now!

crazyalien hope all was well at the scan, let us know how you got on.

crazyd yay for ML!

Loads more to catch up on but me and DP have decided to try and have a nice evening together so I really should get off the computer. Sorry for not sending messages to everyone but have some hugs and Brew and Biscuits

Have my first proper midwife appointment next week, actually looking forward to it as apart from the scans and rubbish booking appointment and scary stuff early on, feel a bit like I've been left in the dark. Seems like it's getting really real now.

Bump is growing by the day and I'm loving it, actually would love to stay at this stage of pg forever as feeling pretty good and really like the way I look with a bump! Is that weird?!? Plus pip is starting to move lots more so I'm actually managing to go days at a time without worrying whether all is okay. Loving the kicks and somersaults, especially when DP can feel them too. Pip seems to move when he speaks to him/her too, we say it's so he/she can hear better :o

Past the worst part of work now till after the holidays. Finished all my prelim marking today and my reports so no more big time consuming jobs till April. 2 more weeks after this then we're on holiday. Not doing anything exciting but am escaping to my mum and dad's for a few days to be looked after whilst DP varnishes all the woodwork (I can't help because of the baby obviously :o) It's been a very long term since Christmas and I really am looking forward to finally having some time off!

CrazyAlien06 · 17/03/2011 18:45

All ok at the scan!xx

highheelsandequations · 17/03/2011 19:09

crazyalien :o

Truffkin · 17/03/2011 20:23

Great news about your scan Crazy are you going to tell us all about it? I have (what seems like) a hundred years to wait for mine and haven't got a date yet either, so want to live vicariously through yours Grin

MrsWajs · 17/03/2011 21:05

Cherry No 3 week early queue jumping please!! I'm fully expecting crazy to evict the twins before babyWajs but you are not allowed!! :)

Just to let you know as well tesco have some good deals on tommee tippee stuff at the mo, i got myself some feeding bibs, breast pads and a little baby essentials kit there today.

ToriaPumpkinHead · 17/03/2011 22:17

Very pleased to hear about your scan Alien! (I've taken that shortening due to the profusion of Crazies Wink )

Fair enough Truff I haven't told my dad yet as we have a somewhat strained relationship!

Highheels It's weird how procedure vares so much from region to region, I'm not that far away from you really but the midwives here like to see you by week eight and again at week nine!

I've had a lovely evening, my best friend has just called to tell me she's booked her wedding for next summer Grin

CaveMum · 17/03/2011 22:24

[pops head round corner]

Hello ladies! crazy, so pleased your scan went well Grin Thought I'd pop by and let you know I have been diagnosed with "classic" PCOS. I seem to recall some of you had the same so any tips/advice is much appreciated! I've got to get my tubes checked out in the next few weeks but then they will start me on Clomid.

Hope to be joining you soon!

bunnygirl80 · 17/03/2011 23:04

crazyalien glad your scan went well

cavemum it's good that you've got a diagnosis, although I suppose it would be better not to need one in the first place - hopefully now you can get some treatment sorted so you get that BFP asap Grin

luckyseven · 17/03/2011 23:39

cavey glad you have come away from your appointment with answers and hope you get your bfp asap; you have been so patient. Thanks for the tips, enjoy the rest of the racing!

kurlyvoice · 18/03/2011 15:04

Hello all. Thanks for your lovely responses to our early arrival. We are still in hospital as he's so little but are making progress as he is now alternating between breastfeeds and tube feeds. Need him to start gaining weight, get over his jaundice, and feed exclusively from the breast for two days, and then they might let us go home... and THEN I might manage to catch up with you all. I wonder who's turn it is next!

haloflo · 18/03/2011 17:57

Please can it be me kurly? Superpenguin hasn't posted for a few days on here or the March thread so I'm hopeful she has now met her baby so I want to be next! However I am glad my LO is didn't come as early as yours as it sounds like a worrying start to life for your family. I hope he starts gaining weight soon and you get out of hospital.

mrsw, jolly and bunny Thank you for sharing your birth plans. I don't know if I will write one but I going to discuss everything with DP this weekend & see how he feels about remembering a couple of key points.

crazydayz Yey for ML! I hope you are getting lots of relaxing done. Are you are all set for the twins? Must make shopping so exciting. Do you buy one cot or two? Double buggy I guess? Wow, I bet there is so much to think of.

crazyalien So pleased your scan went well. How was it? Would you pop your scan pic on your profile so we can have a nosy?

slowshow Excellent news about your risk for Downs. For tops you could try any of the cheap shops, primark, peacocks, new look but I found quite quickly that normal clothes looked wrong and were unflattering - basically they made me look fat & I wasn't having that! I think I'll be needing a shopping trip soon as I doubt any of my pre pregnancy clothes will fit for a while but no way am I wearing maternity clothes for longer than necessary post birth!

cherry My mum had me at 37+3 so paniced me too - hopefully you won't deliver early and like me won't take after your mum.

truffkin I didn't see my GP - I was referred for an early scan by the practise nurse and if it wasn't for that visit the MW would have just seen me at 8/9 weeks with no proof I was pg other than my HPT. Only thing I could think would be ask about procedures in your area i.e. how will you get your scan, how do you get a MW appointment, when will they be, who do I call if I hear nothing just so you are clear about what to expect when.

cave So glad you have a diagnosis even if it isn't ideal. I hope that you join us soon too.

Nothing much new from me. I went swimming today and am exhausted. I mostly walked about in the (small) pool and did a couple of lengths lying on my back but it was hard work. No baby tonight as I need a good rest!

CrazyAlien06 · 18/03/2011 18:34

Hey everyone :)

Have just uploaded the photo from the scan haloflo
Well I was petrified lol , we go there 1/2 hour early and just waited whilst people went in and out. Then about 5 mins after our allotted time DH decided he need the loo (my bladder was bursting!) just as he was walking out the door to the gents the sonographer called my name! luckily he heard it and then off we went to the room

There was a student in there watching, the sonographer asked me to lift my top and lower my jeans then put jelly stuff on my belly . DH was sitting on the chair next to me, just a bit too far away to hold his hand :(

I thought that the sonographer would have a look around first then beam the results onto a screen that we can see. but instead it was on from the beginning. I looked at the ceiling until she spoke then she showed us the baby, its hearbeat , the yolk sac and even showed my bladder as it was soooo full and she was impressed that I had managed to hold it all in lol . Then she showed the babys stomach , bladder, brain etc. Was amazing and so weird, didnt fell like it was something inside of me!

The baby was doing a groovy caterpillar dance so we have nick named it the caterpillar lol .

Then we had the photos printed off and then chatted to research peeps as we are taking part in a study which means couple more scans later on :)

thats about it!

Anyone up to anything exciting this weekend?
I am waiting for DH to call me to pick him up to grab a take away and then mong and watch Comic Relief! Tomoz we are off to watch WBA Vs Arsenal VIP styleeeeee

xx

haloflo · 20/03/2011 12:26

Happy due date to me!! Nothing happening though but it feels exciting to have made it this far.

crazy Scan sounds brillant. Lovely photo. Smile I love how your DH was bursting - they don't know the half of it! Are you planning on spilling the beans to your friends/family now?

Hope you enjoyed the football yesterday. Anyway back to the sofa for another relaxing day.

Truffkin · 20/03/2011 12:51

Your scan sounds lovely Alien and nice that you a get a couple of extras thrown in for the research project! I'm not sure which team you were supporting yesterday but if you're Baggies fans I am assuming you enjoyed it a lot Grin

Halo happy due date and hope your baby decides to put in an appearance sooner rather than later.

We've had a nice chilled weekend, which has been lovely. Being away last weekend was great (and perfect timing!) and we're back in the Midlands next weekend for a family wedding so having a chilled one at home in between has been ideal.

We have decided that DH is bursting so much to tell his parents and brother that we are going to tell them on Friday when we're back for the wedding. He's really close to his brother and I think we would tell them if anything went wrong so I feel ok about it. We have booked a scan for Friday morning though (I'll be 6+1) as I feel just too strange saying anything without having at least one medical professional tell me there is really something in there! I totally understand that we might not be able to see a heartbeat yet so am prepared for that and am also prepared to fork out for another scan pre-12 weeks if we feel the need for it so we're going ahead. I must admit to being excited to see something on the screen as with no symptoms it still feels unreal (in spite of the 5 positive HPTs Grin)

CrazyAlien06 · 20/03/2011 17:21

HeyTruffkin we sure are baggies fans! Was a fab match ! Shame they only drew in the end! I wasn't very impressed with Arsenal at all!

We ve told everyone now and it's on facebook!
X

highheelsandequations · 21/03/2011 10:41

kurly glad your LO is making progress and hoping you can take him home soon.

Halo hoping you're still enjoying the relaxing and also hope your LO shows up soon :)

Truffkin even with my wriggling bump it still feels unreal sometimes! Don't know if I'll ever be 100% convinced there's a baby in there. Hope everything goes well with your scan on Friday and please don't panic if there's nothing/not a lot to see. Things change so quickly early on.

Not up to writing much now as I am home sick from work. Have head full of cotton wool and throat full of razor blades and talking starts off major coughing fits that have had me bent double and actually sat on the floor at one point this morning. Despite being so obviously poorly I am still feeling guilty for phoning in sick, plus worrying about the state of my classroom when I return (people just leave stuff everywhere and stationary is always stolen!!) and whether my classes are okay. Going to try and make it to the kitchen to make a cup of tea.

Truffkin · 21/03/2011 11:36

HighHeels I have the utmost sympathy for you trying to cope with a bad cold (((hugs))) Am sure your work will manage and you need to concentrate on getting yourself better!

I've had a cold since last Wednesday that I just can't shift and it's driving me crazy! I thought it was a bit better when I woke up this morning but just can't stop blowing my nose and also have that 'cotton wool' headed feeling. Am hoping I can slink off a bit early and go to bed for a while. I'd normally rely on Benilyn day and night tablets, but obviuosly they are off limits!

Crazy how exciting that everyone knows now!

cherrycobbler · 21/03/2011 12:00

happy due date plus one halo! hope you're not having to fend off too many "any news" texts and calls & you're feeling good.

boo for feeling rubbish truffkin and highheels - really miserable when you can't dose on up on drugs as usual and it seems to take ages and ages to get better. Lots of Vicks and lots of rest just about got me through - and paracetemol when I couldn't get my temperature down with cold flannels alone. Don't feel bad at all for being home hh .

hope everyone else is well and enjoying the sunshine - yay for spring springing!

OP posts:
MrsWajs · 21/03/2011 14:58

Another one with the cold here!! :(
obviously the bugs are going around this thread :)

Happy due date for yesterday Halo Hope LO doesn't keep you hanging on too long!

haloflo · 22/03/2011 10:07

Boo for all the colds, its miserable being ill when pregnant. Paracetamol alone just doesn't cut it!

highheels Never feel guilty about being ill, its not your fault. Hope you feel better after a restful day.

truffkin Scan Friday sounds good, be warned it will probably be an internal.

I'm starting to wonder if my body knows how to go into labour although i'm sure all first time mums feel the same.

So far i've quite liked the "any news" texts - nice that people remembered. I may get sick of them after a week or so though.

We had a washing machine crisis yesterday when the plug fused after the sink leaked water. All fixed now so i've told baby now would be a good time but nope, just a friendly kick reminding me how happy he/she is in there!

MW appointment Thursday to discuss sweeps and induction although am only 2 days over so plenty of time yet.

highheelsandequations · 22/03/2011 10:35

Still poorly :( Took another day off as talking is just too painful and couldn't face the thought of 4 hours of it. Making do with lots of cold drinks to soothe and lemon and ginger tea with honey and it seems to be helping. I think that it's worse first thing as I've slept with my mouth open all night (pregnancy nose block) and it's dried out my throat.

MrsW sorry you're feeling poorly too, hope you're a little better today.

Halo glad your washing machine is all fixed and hoping LO starts to think about making an appearance soon.

Cherry it's lovely to see the sunshine isn't it. I actually walked to my mw appointment in short sleeves this morning, although I might have been warm as I'd only left myself 15 mins to get there so half walked half jogged along the road :)

Truffkin thanks for the hugs and sorry you're also suffering with the cold. Hope you managed to get away and get some rest.

alien glad you're enjoying sharing the news.

Well mw this morning was really nice and actually seemed interested in me and how I was feeling and checked through all my notes and stuff. Made a change from the booking app when I felt like they couldn't get us out of there quick enough. She eventually found pip's heart (took a lot longer than I do on my home doppler! Had to resist the urge to ask if she wanted me to have a go :o), blood pressure and urine checks all fine and measuring 24cm so spot on. Completely forgot to ask all my questions as usual so now have to wait another 4 weeks to get some answers! Meant to ask about SPD/PGP as I've been starting to get some pains in my hips and pelvis, not too bad at the moment unless I've been moving around a lot but was out walking for about 2 hours on Sun and nearly in tears with the pain when I got home. Have also been having pains when moving my legs apart. Does this sound like it could be the onset of SPD?

Feel like I should be doing useful things as I'm at home but at the same time feel like I should make the most of this rare opportunity to rest! Only this week and next till school holidays and when I go back after that I'm in my final term before I start ML, so fully intend to start the countdown!

Hope everyone else is fine and noone else is catching these yucky frolicker germs.

MrsWajs · 22/03/2011 13:50

Oh highheels can empathise with the open mouth/sore throat scenario, I'm in exactly the same boat! Feel like my nose is deep fried and crispy today and it hurts!! Also losing my voice on top of it all! :( Bah bloody humbug!

highheelsandequations · 22/03/2011 14:28

MrsW it sounds like you're suffering with exactly the same thing as me. It's rubbish isn't it?!? Lack of voice is the one thing that convinced me I'd be useless at work today. Think I might make some more hot lemon and honey and see if that helps, never thought I would ever be wishing so much for lemsip!!

Daiso · 22/03/2011 14:52

Hey Ladies

Am i ok to join??

Thanks Toria was lovely seeing my name up there Smile

Am 4+5 so very early and obviously constant knicker checking ( sooo delightful!) and as i don't have any symptoms at all, don't feel PG. Had several BFP tests and no arrival of AF ( please stay that way)
Hey Truff you are 1 week ahead of me Grin

Hello to all, have tried to read and catch up. Seems we have all kinds of stages of pregnancy on here which is great to refer to.

highheelsandequations · 22/03/2011 15:11

Hi Daiso, congratulations and here's some Brew and Biscuits to welcome you.
