Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
knittakid · 01/02/2011 10:28

good question delia, also interested to know. When ttc i was 100% sure that that was the month, for about 8 months before it actually happened, so guess my 'feelings' are not really in tune.

jackfrost how nice to hear from you!!!

byron I am not so antisocial, just thought they were hilarious!

PinkElephant73 · 01/02/2011 11:03

Delia I didnt have any signs of anything happening with DS1 and was induced at 40+10.

however the day before DS2 arrived (40+3) I had a sweep and an acupuncture treatment after which I had lots of uncomfortable BH and a show. I was pretty sure that things were moving so I went to bed with my TENS machine on and was woken up at 3am by a massive contraction. he arrived at 3pm that day. (I have long labours unfortunately for me!).

I am due with DC3 on Friday and have been having spells of mild contractions randomly for weeks but they have not developed into anything. according to my MW I have an irritable uterus (understandably!)

speaking to friends, you are less likely to get the "warm up" symptoms with the first baby. but the only thing you can really predict is that each labour is unpredictable!

roundthehouses · 01/02/2011 12:34

Delia, no I don´t think I had any inkling. I was grumbling one day about having missed my due date (only just!) and worrying about having another week or two to wait and woke up about 5am the next morning with wet pyjamas from my waters breaking. I can´t say anything sticks in my mind as having indicated it was about to happen apart from being past 40 weeks and it kind of being inevitable at some point - lol (i.e. by that point you are probably reading every twinge and change of pressure as a sign).

i don´t think I will be doing anything particular to try to hurry things along really, I don´t think anything really works either. Think the most effective thing is probably to keep as active as possible so will be trying to do some exercise everyday even if just a nice long walk with my ipod on. Taking ds swimming this afternoon which is always lovely and relaxing and knackers him out

Having a busy start to maternity leave - i want to laze around and do nothing!! but between dh not leaving for work til 9.45am and me picking up ds from school at 1.45 it only leaves me 4 hours and with one thing and another (errands, light housework, baby preparations, doctors appts etc) that time just seems to fly. I have been passed some translation work to do aswell which I can never say no to because it only comes along a few times a year and pays quite nicely but i just DON´T WAAAAAAANT TO. humpf. Wink

Breezey · 01/02/2011 13:09

Delia I'm not sure I had any indicators, with no 1 (36+ weeks) I didn't feel like going to aquanatal, and he came the next day, but it took me a while to realise he was imminent, and M/W was only in house for about 30 mins. With no 2 (38+) I was getting a bit unsettled, but not sure untill definite contraction at 3am, got up showered, washed hair, did legs etc..., DH took ds to g'ma all ready, called M/W at 0700, and then baby did not come 'till 3pm. Now 38 weeks with no 3 and none the wiser, I think staying active has got to help, maybe thats why I am sitting here, not doing something constructive. Good Luck for those inductions today !

WanderingSheep · 01/02/2011 13:36

Jack nice to hear from you! Of course you can stay! It's like Hotel California here - you can't leave. Wink

Delia I didn't really get any signs with DD. I went to bed two days before due date with period type pain and then the next morning woke up having contractions which went on all day, then the next day they were a lot more regular but she was born the day after her due date!

I wonder how Debka and Tallulah are getting on?

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/02/2011 14:03

Hello everyone,

I started writing here last night but didn't get a chance to finish and needed to go to bed!

Good luck delia and tallulah today, thinking of you both and hope all goes well Smile

ledkr i do hope you're okay, sounds like things will be straight forward to resolve and I hope the new bottles are working.

jackfrost i thought about you this morning when I was feeding, just wondering how you were getting on and how you manage with 2!

I'm on a completely different planet at the moment and so in love with my ds Smile Smile Smile
Birth story......
I was in early labour for a flippin' long time.... from Thursday night/ Friday morning and kept going for walks, ball bouncing etc to hurry things along but just had mild contractions every 5 mins. Finally I started having moderate ones Saturday night/ Sunday morning so called mw who came out to say I was only 2cm dilated and it could still be a while, I was so upset at the thought of that carrying on for another few days but luckily it all sped up about half ten Sunday morning. Waters went quite spectacularly and contractions went mental, every 2 mins for min. Mw came round and I really wanted to stay at home but I just couldn't get a handle on the contractions and wanted g&a and she didn't bring any (Angry) She siad I'd have to wait for a while for the other mw to bring some. I then said I was off to hospital (was on another planet by then!) so I went (by ambulance, not walking!). There was no room on the delivery ward so was put on the postnatal ward where it was visiting hours Shock. by 2pm i was 5cm dilated then had a low dose epi (brilliant stuff) and g&a and then dilated to 10cm really quickly and pushed him out really easily, only 5 pushes i think. he was born at 7:47pm. needed 1 stitch and have a couple of grazes but nothing serious.
apparently i was very funny with the g&a, apologised to the anaesthetist for wearing my old grey granny bra and told him he was wonderful then grabbed the mw's arm and told her how glad i was she was there?? Confused

anyway, it's all over and totally worth every second, will put a little pic up of ds, i can't stop staring at him.

sorry for rambling..... still haven't come back down to earth Grin
look forward to hearing more stories and hope everyone is doing okay Smile

WanderingSheep · 01/02/2011 14:06

Aw, lovely story needto Grin. Glad you're both well!

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/02/2011 14:08

WanderingSheep · 01/02/2011 14:10

Ooh, had a sneaky peek at your profile! He's lurvely Grin aww, want to give him a cuddle! Does he have a name?

smallblackflowers · 01/02/2011 14:22

needto your story brought a small tear to my eye, and your little DS is just gorgeous. Well done. xxx

NeedToSleepZZZ · 01/02/2011 14:31

thank you! he certainly does have a name, it's benjamin robert needtosleep Smile he smells as good as he looks too : )

40Weeks · 01/02/2011 14:33

Yay needto what super news!

How is everyone else doing? Hope tallulah and debka are ok.

I have given up and put pj bottoms back on, everything else cuts in and makes my bladder more tender than it already is!

I didn't have any warnings signs with ds1 despite 2 sweeps and was then induced but I did get very restless with ds2. I couldn't sit still, which is VERY unlike me! But that was all

WanderingSheep · 01/02/2011 14:35

Lovely name! Smile

WanderingSheep · 01/02/2011 14:38

AIBU to do the school run in my tracky bottoms? My mat jeans are hurting [hey fatty bum bum]. My trackies look stupid with my coat though!

Grannyapple · 01/02/2011 14:41

Aaw needto he's adorable.

2weeks left & counting...bouncing on ball, been for walks & several cups of raspberry leaf tea today but nada. I am going demented!!

Off to bake a cheat's coffee & walnut cake to have with a nice cuppa before dh comes home!

OP posts:
EauRouge · 01/02/2011 14:46

Aw, he's beautiful, well done and congrats needto :)

Deliaskis · 01/02/2011 14:52

Congrats again Needto have fun enjoying your lovely newborn!

Wandering not U to want to do it in tracky bottoms, but yes U to wear coat with them. You can only wear tracky bottoms if in full athletic get up - trainers, some kind of moisture wicking top and possibly headband/baseball cap and some wrist bands!

Only joking, wear what you want!

D

ledkr · 01/02/2011 14:57

haha i remember the coat and tracky combo Grin I am of course back in my skinnys today.
Came home last night, baby has had light treatment for 24hrs and is now feeding well and not as jaundiced.Had a euphoric home coming really esp as pil spoilt the last one,had chinese a glass of champers and went to bed with all of us in same room.Baby is awake from 10-12 at night so she was just led on me while i caught up on the thread. She slept until 3am me and dh were like Laurel and Hardy running around getting bottle warmed etc.She then slept until 7.30 i had to be up then for school.MW came today and did test she is still jauniced but not need treatment as yet we have to push the feeds tho.I feel very well and have to keep reminding myself i am only 5 days post op.
Thinking of you all on here still pregers, trust me just enjoy last few days as i now feel so sad its all over.I am enjoying breathing tho and can walk better post section than when pg.It wont be long till we are all comparing babies and feeding etc.
Stay well all.Congrats again need to xx

Looking forward to hearing how delightful the in laws from hell have been!!

WanderingSheep · 01/02/2011 15:47

"haha i remember the coat and tracky combo I am of course back in my skinnys today." Sod off! Envy Grin Delilah is gorgeous! I suggested Delilah to DH ages ago but he was set on Charlotte but I love Delilah!

Delia I wore the trackies and the full sporty gear and made sure I jogged to and from school just so that I didn't look stupid. Bit tired now though! Wink

ellesbelles79 · 01/02/2011 16:00

Sounds like hardwork jackfrost but glad to see all going well & you are enjoying spending time with the girls Smile

roundthehouses and deliaskis Im 37 weeks today and drinking loads of raspberry leaf tea?I?ve been having some BH and shooting pains in my groin over the last few days so Im hoping that things are starting to move around a bit down there now. Fingers crossed!

My baby is starting to engage and was 4/5 engaged last week so will be interesting to see if there has been any progress when I see midwife again next week?.

Things are deffo getting exciting hey?! Wink

Needto - CONGRATULATIONS! Birth story is absolutely lovely?.Im sooooo pleased for you! Benjamin is a gorgeous name too?.xx

Ledkr its really nice to hear things are going well for you and your LO is doing fine. You?ve done very well indeed so hang on in there!

I hope all is going well for everyone else...cant wait for more birth stories to crop up over the coming weeks. Grin

snowangels1 · 01/02/2011 16:06

wandering I live in joggers now - nothing else fits me any more, so don't worry. Sadly the look is not improved in any way by the summery slip on tatty old slip on bright red trainers that were previously reserved only for pottering in the garden Blush. I look shameful I really do but nothing else goes on my mahosive feet. and lol at delia

Great to hear on here from needto and am so excited for you (and slightly suprised that you willingly took yourself off to the hospital knowing how anxious they make you, and btw Shock at being in full flung labour on the post natal during visiting hours)

ledkr - sad pg is over - shall I remind you of the spd, breathlessness, hormonal emotions?! Wink so glad you're home again and PIL have gone (did they turn up at your house when you came back from hospital then? Shock ) and you made me Grin with your laurel and hardy antics to bottle making.

JustOneMorePlease · 01/02/2011 16:38

need to he is beautiful and love his name.

So glad everything is good with you too ledkr.

Three weeks to go here, am pooped on a night at the mo as dh is working away and am therefore home alone with the three kiddies.

Went to ENT clinic with ds1 yesterday and his hearing was rubbish, so they want to put grommets in again (third time) hoping they will wait a few weeks to get baby into some sort of routine!! He also needs some baby teeth removing as two adult ones are growing behind his baby ones. Hope they can do it all when he has a general for his ears. Sorry waffle waffle. Sometimes it all can be a bit overwelming having a little one with special needs and extra medical needs.
The good thing is he is sooooooo laid back and funny and couldn't give a stuff!!

Regarding 'knowing' labour was imminent, I have done various things that weren't obvious at the time but were with hindsight. With ds2 I completely took to bits my Hoover and gave it a complete overhaul on the kitchen floor. I was pushing a damp cloth through all the tubes with a wooden spoon. It was fab afterwards. He was born that evening.
With dd1 I simply wanted everyone home (from work and school) and felt very antisocial towards everyone else. Like gathering the family in!! Had her within hours at home!!!!

Looking forward to watching obem tonight as had to record it last night.

Looking forward to some more lovely new baby birth announcements! Take care.

wandering love the Hotel California analogy!!!!!
