spilt good news Grin Grin

rockchick - don't worry about never having held a baby etc. I hadn't with DS - I was tbh v unmaternal - DH had changed a nappy - me no!! You will find your own way - some of it is I'm sure instinctive (tho might not seem so at the time).

If it makes you feel better when DS was hours old a MW in hosp asked me if he was weeing and pooing - I looked at her blankly in a post birth/pethidine haze and said how would I know - haven't you changed nappy she says - no - why not? Hadn't ever done it before didn't know how. Am sure she must have though - oh another woman in early 30s, who has career, but clueless as a mother. The cluelessness kind of passes and you learn not to worry about it.

That and everything seems like the Krypton factor to start with - buggy folding, putting car seat in the car. But it all passes and you have the most cute thing in the world to sit and gaze at for hours and hours.

Jupiter118 · 26/01/2011 23:14

Sorry rambling this evening.

cramp there is a pressure point under the nose - left of the dip bit above lip and under nose - push really hard just under nose (a bit like you are picking nose) - apparently it really works. Am sure google might provide a better explanation Blush

TMI alert!!!!!!!!!

Was a bit bunged (constipation) and noticed that movement had gone a bit quieter - beginning to worry again, but then problem relieved and lots of movement as if to say thank god for the extra room. Just me or does this happen? V sorry btw for TMI.

Larty74 · 27/01/2011 10:38

I'm washing my baby's clothes. How weird. At the same time, packing hospital bag, even more so! but also very fun. I think this weekend will entail the dreaded trip to IKEA for a chest of drawers to put newly washed items in and probably other various bits you know you don't need but end up buying there anyway.

and I can finally stop obsessing about travel systems as have just placed an order for that!! we went for the Maclaren techno xlr. a few more boxes ticked - hurray!

About to go and have my pregnancy massage - what a day! Grin

KPidgeon · 27/01/2011 12:05

Larty that's what we bought and we had great fun putting it all together for the first time last weekend. I'm so excited about pushing the baby in it!

Hope it's the right choice for both of us.

Enjoy your massage. x

EvianBaby · 27/01/2011 12:30

Hello everyone

Wow, this thread is so busy! Great to 'hear' everyones news though. It sounds like we share quite a few pregnancy niggles and concerns! It will all be worth it in the end though won't it?!?

I feel really panicked as you are all talking about washing the baby's clothes, packing your hospital bags and buying last minute bits... I haven't really made a start yet - oops! I MUST get sorted this weekend! With my first I was super organised I think, this time the difference is amazing. I want to be organised though so had better get a move on.

I start my maternity leave on Tuesday, I can't wait! I have big ideas (ha!) of spending time cleaning, cooking, baking, generally being super efficient and like one of those women you see on American films set in the 80/90's - I think though that the reality will be different! DH keeps telling me to relax whilst DS is at nursery (2 days a week) and just spend time with him on the other days. That's probably a good idea but I do want to try and get some food in the freezer before the new arrival, I remember how hungry and desperate for a decent meal we were last time, but never seemed to have the time to make anything for ourselves!

I can sympathise with you all with aches and pains. I am struggling to close my legs properly (sorry if that was more than you wanted to know!), get up out of bed, off the sofa, and close the car door once I am in it! I suspect I have a very interesting waddle too!

I am at the MW this afternoon for my 34 week appointment. Looking forward to hearing the baby's heartbeat again. I was a bit concerned over the weekend as he/she seemed to be moving less. The movements have picked back up though. I think it's when I don't eat/drink as much. Good excuse to keep eating Smile

Spilt - such great news! Can't wait until the next installment! Hope you're not feeling too sick/tired etc. Hopefully the weeks will fly for you. Take care.

Hope everyone else is managing ok, I don't post often as don't have as much opportunity through the day at the moment, but read the posts often. I should have more time from Wednesday onwards! Grin

Take care everyone...

jammiedodger2 · 27/01/2011 13:03

Hi Everyone
Larty and Eva, I'm planning to deliver at the JR. I live in High Wycombe and the lovely maternity unit I delivered dd and ds in has become a midwife only unit and I can't go there. The JR seems really organised tho so I feel ok about it. DH is convinced he will end up delivering the baby himself on the side of the M40!
spilt good to hear your news.
Am having a very chilled day today which was very much needed, am finding it harder to manage as my heart complaint has kicked in (very minor atm) and also work is very hard. Have been served to attend court on monday as a key witness in a case to remove some children. Not what I went into health visiting to do. I've never been in court for anything so I have no clue what it's going to be like.
Ever since I heard I just keep crying. I'm hoping I get the hormones sorted before next monday!
Have nearly got everything I need for hospital. Also been on amazon (it's payday today!)and ordered a load of birthday presents for friends with birthdays in feb/march/april and may. That way I can just wrap and hand them out.
keep well ladies

sam26oscar · 27/01/2011 13:28

Jammie wow you are super organised Smile
Thats pretty impressive! I have only just realised i have 4 birthdays this weekend Shock haven't even got a card yet..and one of those birthdays is my dad's!!!

Am very excited today as i had new carpet last week and am currently waiting for my new sofa to be delivered this afternoon yay Grin
Also been to m/w this morning for 34 week check am actually 35 now though!!! Everything good, baby 3/5 palpable, head down....phew DS was breech! there was trace protein and she said to pop a sample in if i get any symptons. But baby happy as larry according to m/w Grin

Still got 2 more weeks until maternity leave, then i will pack my hospital bag Hmm

Not having good nights sleep mainly due to DS coming into my bed each night at about 1am. Its a reaction to his daddy going away to live in Scotland so am very laid back about him coming in obviously needing reasssurance, still got to tell him daddy going to afghan in march yet Sad
Hopefully the baby will take his mind of it to some extent!

hope you all have good day, will wait for new sofa before i relax with cup of tea and -packet of custard creams healthy fruit snack Wink

me23 · 27/01/2011 14:54

Hi everone
It's my birthday today Smile have been spoilt by dp and dd. They have baked me a cake which I can't wait to try but should really wait until they get home Grin

I actually managed to sleep last night, and I'm in a much better mood for it.

it's exciting to read about everyone getting things ready makes me realise how close we all are to having our babies.

WE also need to get chest of drawers as we have nowhere to put baby's clothes, I need to sort them out and wash them in the next few weeks.

I haven't bought any nursing bras yet,(in fact bras are so uncomfortable I haven't worn one in months no idea what size I am Blush ) I have no idea what to buy as I don't know what size I will be once milk comes in, anyone have any advice?

Larty74 · 27/01/2011 15:42

Jammie I have gotten only good feelings on the JR as well thus far. in fact on recent trip met a new dad in the lift and he said everything about it had been brilliant.

KPidgeon SO exctited to get mine delivered - hopefully next week!

sam26oscar I just have to say you and Mrsam are so brave and I have so much respect for that! glad all is well w/ LO

Me23 happy birthday! hope you are having a lovely day. I too am baffled by the nursing bra size. I have acquired a few nursing tank top/vest type things and one bra which all came in a generic size S/M/L, so room to give, i'm sure, but actual measurement/cup size clueless. Headed to mothercare (again) tomorrow to maybe will ask someone.

StrangewaysHereICome · 27/01/2011 16:53

Hello everyone

evian that made me laugh - I was the same, super organised for the first, not so organised for the second and woefully behind with this one!! I need to get my bag packed just in case and DH still hasn't gone up in the loft to get the clothes down. If he doesn't soon I will just have to go shopping!! I still have a few bits to get off the list the mw left so I really ought to get into gear as I am rapidly losing all my energy! In fact after dropping off DD this morning I snuck back to bed and feel better for it - but then I was woken three times in the night by dd2 who isn't totally settled with sharing a bedroom with big sis!

Today I was a bit flash and splashed out on a new pushchair off Kiddicare. It's not really essential but of the two we have already one has a dodgy brake and the other has a dodgy reclining seat. DH said we could get a new one so I didn't need telling twice Wink. So we have gone for the Baby Jogger Mini City - hope it lives up to the rave reviews on here!

Happy Birthday me23 Grin sounds like youare having a lovely day.

Just over 4 weeks to go ...

Muser · 27/01/2011 18:50

Nursing bras: don't bother asking at Mothercare, they are useless. Go to a proper bra shop. And not M&S either because they're useless at bra fitting. Bravissimo, Debenhams, John Lewis, good independent. Somewhere like that.

At Bravissimo they advised me to go and get fitted at 37 weeks. They'll account for boobs expanding when they fit you. It's on my list of things to do on maternity leave. 1 week to go!

JeelyPiece · 27/01/2011 19:12

Good to see that scan news from split!

All the talk of swelling up and getting uncomfortable and going on mat leave - we really are getting into the final stages now.

Still don't believe I'm actually going to have a baby in a few weeks, wonder when it will sink in...

Just had my 33 week midwife check and am measuring 36 weeks. Three weeks ago I was measuring 32 weeks so growth is speeding up. She says not to worry unless it's more than 3cm out but I can't help but be a bit anxious. Mind you there's a thread in Pregnancy just now where lots of women have been warned about their babies being especially large or small and they have turned out the opposite, or a normal weight.

Good news is baby is in right position though still loitering at one side of my uterus, and all bloods are fine.

Have bought bits and pieces for my hospital bag so just need to get some roomy nightshirts (think I will wear these during labour and just after) and get baby clothes washed then pack the bag. Then we have to clear out and air the spare room and buy a chest of drawers with a changing table on top.

MIL has offered to buy a bathing table - a table that turns into a bath with storage for bath things underneath. I don't think we will really need this (have already borrowed a baby bath), what do you think? I thought we could use the bath on the floor or our dining table and store any bath things in a basket in the baby's room.

Still five weeks to go at work and am struggling already. Look forward to the days where I have to leave early for antenatal classes or midwife!

EvianBaby · 28/01/2011 09:19

Morning everyone

At last, nearly the weekend! Am still planning on getting at least a little bit organised this weekend... Will update you on whether I do!

Had my 34 week MW appt yesterday. The baby is back to resting in a transverse position. If this is still the case at my final scan (36 weeks) then I will be booked in for a C Section to happen between 38-39 weeks. A breech baby would be enough to worry them with a woman considering (hoping for!) a VBAC but a transverse lie just about freaks them out! Will have to wait and see. I had a look on the Spinning Babies website last night for some inspiration on moving the baby into the right position... Does anyone have any experience of this?

According to the MW (and the MW's amongst us might be able to correct me on this) by this stage they normally expect baby's to be in a position where they will stay until they deliver (obviously not necesarily engaged but head down at least). The MW thinks that as my first baby was a lot bigger than this one is showing to be then this one has lots of room to move around still (and it does!). Therefore it hasn't really fixed into a position yet. Hmm. Will see what happens.

Sorry for my ramblings, will stop now! It's just given me a lot to think about because after nearly 34 weeks of debating (changing my mind frequently!) I had finally decided I wanted to try for a VBAC and was feeling very positive about it!

Anyway, how are you all?

Any nice plans for the weekend?

Hopeful that Friday goes very fast and it's 5pm before we know it!

Have a good day Smile

EvianBaby · 28/01/2011 09:22

me Happy birthday for yesterday!

Strangeways - can you imagine if you go on to have a 4th?!? You'll have nothing ready at all! As you said, I (or he!) really must either get the stuff out of the loft OR just buy new stuff (am woefully leaning to the second option at the moment!). I very nearly bought the Baby Jogger (in the double though), they look great don't they. My friend has the single and really likes it.

spaceal · 28/01/2011 09:38

I've been trying to spend some time each day on my hands and knees, Evian, with the hope of getting my breech baby to turn, but it's not comfortable and I can't see myself actually crawling round the house on hands and knees, like some of the websites recommend. I have been trying to make sure I don't cross my legs when I'm sitting down and leaning over the gym ball too, all intended to create more space for the baby to turn. It feels like her head isn't quite so rammed up into my ribs today, so maybe she's shifting round, but maybe not...

Hips were aching a lot again last night and the night before, and once I'm awake my mind starts racing with all the things that need to be done in the next few weeks, and with waves of panic that we're going to have a baby soon!

At least it's Friday - but the weekend's going to spent packing for our house move. Grrr.

Happy birthday for yesterday, me.

Jupiter118 · 28/01/2011 10:46

Me Happy Birthday for yesterday.

Evian and Spaceal - baby j is also currently breech. Thought I had felt something weird last Wed night - it was baby turning round and now seems to have foot in my lower regions - ouch - it feels at times like the foot might pop out or something and hands/head in my ribs.

Position confirmed yesterday at 32w scan and consultant clinic appt. Also seem to have slightly too much fluid - apparently the cutoff for normal is 8cm and I have 8.5cm - another thing to worry about. Hope baby turns again (what are the chances). They gave me leaflets for ECV (not at all keen) and elective C. What are the chances of it turning back round - it is measuring large and there doesn't feel like there is much room. Also not sure how much time I could spend on hands and knees - to uncomfy.

Blood pressure was ok though - one good thing.

I may have bought the contents for hospital bag, but not packed them or washed baby clothes, or got last times clothes out or anything like pram out of the loft. And have no sense of urgency to do so this time. Better had ask DH to help me sort it I suppose.

Friday - yippee - only one more week of work.

PipPipPip · 28/01/2011 11:00

Hi ladies,

great to read all your exciting news! I don't need to pack a hospital bag for weeks, but I'm already a little excited by the thought.

I'm in bra limbo - have grown out of current bras, but it is too early to buy a nursing bra as my boobs will probably change in coming weeks. At the moment, my ridiculous solution is to go bra-less whenever possible, and just wear my bra when going out! haha, totally daft. Should just go and fork out the money, I guess.

I saw my GP for a routine appointment on Monday. All fine with baby. She did a routine urine sample and...lo and behold...I have a urinary infection!

Suddenly it all makes sense: I'd had a sore, swollen lower-tummy and needed to pee constantly. I'd just assumed it was normal to feel like that in late pregnancy!!

So I've started antibiotics and already feel 100% better. So pleased that it WASN'T just part of pregnancy.

Stay well, ladies! x

sam26oscar · 28/01/2011 11:35

Pip i saw m/w yesterday and there was trace protein but not enough apparently to warrent concern, well, guess what woke up this morning with more BH than normal and tummy pains so have telephone consultation with Dr at some point today, i ALWAYS get a UTI on a friday for some weird reason!!

Bra wise tbh i have just bought asda sports bra's each time i've needed to go up only £4!!! Will get properly fitted in a couple of weeks for nursing brs though.

Have grave concerns regarding cat and baby!!!
My cat is only 18 months old, but not really a fussy one, doesn't sit on me but likes to sleep on bed which is fine, however, i got the pram out from the conservatory and when i looked round she had jumped in it, and snuggled down and was looking very comfortable thank you very much!

She soon got swiftly booted out but she does keep eyeing it up!!! I think i will leave it i n the front room of an evening and just make a noise if she goes to get in it!

It was one of the reasons why i wanted my sister to bring my moses basket back so i could have it up in my bedroom for a while befr baby is in it and the cat learns not to go in that either!( poor thing!!)

Well, its the weekend and DS is off to cousins for a sleepover tomorrow so will have weekend to myself Grin. Whats the betting that i don't pack my bag either just watch films and sky+ Wink
Have good friday! x

Jupiter118 · 28/01/2011 11:41

pip - if you can get an old branded mothercare bra - moda I think then these are all currently half price as in old packaging. I got some a couple of weeks ago - got ones with clips just in case they are an ok size. No doubt will have to buy some horrendous size of nursing bra - oh well suppose could use as a parachute in an emergency!

me23 · 28/01/2011 14:02

evian wrt postion of baby actually the NICE antenatal care guidelines for mws/dr's SAY that they should not be palpating the abdomen to check position until 36 weeks as before then it doesn't matter and can change. Esp with subsequent babies as there is more room in there and they don't usually engage until labour. Also if baby is transverse there's no way a vaginal delivery would be possible a cs would be only option regardless if it is a vbac. Would they not offer you an ECV if baby is still transverse or breech by 36/37 weeks? some places will offer a ECV if you have had a previous CS.

Thanks for the bra suggestions, although isn't bravisimo only for women with d+ cups? mine were a B pre pregnancy and haven't grown a huge amount. MAybe a c cup now but then again I have no idea! Think I will wait a few weeks then bite the bullet and get measured.

Muser · 28/01/2011 14:20

me Bravissimo is for D and above, but they'd still measure you and give you some advice. And as most women wear too small a cup size and too big a back size, you might discover you weren't a B cup before and actually could shop there. I used to think I was a 38B until someone put me in a 32D and suddenly my boobs looked completely different.

EvianBaby · 28/01/2011 14:46

me thank you for the info. I knew someone would know more than I do! She did actually say that as this baby is estimated to be smaller than my first it does have more room to move around. According to her and the consultant I saw at my growth scan they do not offer ECV to women who have had a previous section. I will just wait and see what happens and what position he/she is in at 36 weeks. That's a really interesting point though about the NICE guidelines, I can see why that would be the case. This baby moves position all of the time and certainly doesn't feel settled in one permanently. Thank you for your help!

Also, I can second Bravissimo, most people I know have come out wearing a completely different size bra, as Muser says, but with their boobs looking much better!

jeffily · 28/01/2011 14:52

I've discovered H&M maternity vests- with built in support and clips for BFing later are the most, most comfy underwear ever! I was a B cup pre preg though, although I think I am more like a D now, so they are enough support. Don;t think they would be if you are a bigger busted lady! (Envy would LOVE bigger boobs!)

I met up with a friend today who is due 10 days before me and while I was with her she got 2 texts saying that girls on her NCT course had gone into labour! Made it feel really real that we are actually going to be doing it soon- not long to go and there is going to be birth announcements on here... Amazing. Feels like only yesterday we were starting off and gradually collecting members as the month went on!

I'm feeling sooo lazy. DD is napping and I should be getting on with cleaning and cooking, but have no get up and go today. DH 'made himself a sandwich' for lunch- which means that the kitchen is totally covered in crumbs, (why can't he just bloody wipe them up afterwards?!) empty salad cream bottles (why can't he just throw them away!?) and dirty plates (why, why, why!?). I love him to bits but he is driving me demented at the moment. I just want to be left totally alone in my clean and tidy and organised house, to read books about child birth and plan the next few weeks. Anyone else feeling strangely unbothered about their OH? I feel mean, he just wants a bit of loving, but I am really finding it hard to focus on anything other than impending childbirth and looking after my DD at the moment.

Muser · 28/01/2011 14:56

I'm a bit surprised we haven't had a birth announcement yet actually. Those of us at the top are so close to 37 weeks. There's bound to be one soon.

TooImmature2BMum · 28/01/2011 14:58

Happy birthday yesterday, Me!

Ugh, DH dragged me round Ikea yesterday to get the cot mattress, and then he got grumpy because I didn't like any of the rugs/storage boxes/tat that he liked. Somehow we still managed to spend £90 despite mattress only costing about £40, though. Why he thought either of us could manage a trip to Ikea straight after work and before dinner without fighting I don't know...we wound up in Sainsbury's buying pizza and ice cream and cheesecake as a result. Blush

I woke up in the night wondering if I was getting my first braxton hicks - sort of weird tummy feelings that did feel like tightenings, but when I put my hands on my tummy I couldn't feel anything from the outside. Still not sure what it was - could just have been the baby squirming, I suppose.

It's my leaving do from work tonight, although I don't actually leave for another week yet. Think will spend all next week explaining why I'm still here! Too many people couldn't do next Friday night, that's why. I'm really winding down now - hence why I'm MNing at 3pm on a work day.

Oooh, feed back on nursing bras when you get fitted, people! I'm really unsure what size to buy - I expect I'll go back to Bravissimo and do as they say.
