MadAboutTheBoys · 19/12/2010 12:28

I was just about to post to say sorry for starting the July thread and then disappearing, then saw that it was all full up! So I thought I would start us a new one.

Hello to all the many many ladies that have joined the July club - it's lovely to see so many of us here. I've been trying to read back through all the old posts, but there are so many, that's partly why it's taken me so long to get back! Have also been having some personal troubles, but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm 12 weeks today and slightly looking forward to my scan on Christmas Eve, but also nervous in case it's not good news. I'm looking forward to catching up with you all again and hearing how you and your bumps are going.

oh yeah, and add sore teeth and gums to that list! I don't want to go to the dentist until I have my free prescription card. Trying to get more calcium into my diet but it's hard as I am still a bit sick :(

cara2244 Glad too hear I am not the only one to feel this way, am feeling much better tonight, hope you are too! It wont be something I'll be repeating!

Want2bSupermum · 02/01/2011 03:03

yes - the sore teeth and gums. We have our dental insurance through DH employer. I can't find the insurance card which I need to book an appointment. Luckily the wife of a partner at work is a dentist and looked at my gums on Thursday. I was told to floss and brush every 4 hours during the day and she gave me a special mouthwash to use before going to bed. She said I was one step of having to see a periodontist and told me to take a pregnancy test! I have still not told work I am expecting. Will be 14 wks tomorrow.

Stangirl · 02/01/2011 19:11

Belated Happy New Year everyone. Haven't been on here in a while as my ms has been bad and I had food poisoning (sausages) before Xmas. Much better now though - hosted dinner for friends on NYE and stayed up till 3am. Had lots of naughty food (bloomy rind cheese) and 4 whole glasses of wine (over about 6 hours).

12 week scan on Tues and am very excited.

DitaVonCheese · 03/01/2011 00:13

Very impressed with everyone staying up late! I saw in new year on my own (except for sleepy DD) as DH had gone to a party next door, following enormous Chinese meal with my family which sadly took ages due to rubbish service (nom nom though).

Is it possible for first trimester exhaustion to kick in at 10 weeks? Confused Mainly I've been suffering my usual pregnancy insomnia and staying up til midnight or later (oops) most nights, but a couple of nights I've just crashed or had to go for a sleep in the afternoon. Went to bed with DD at 7.30 yesterday! My vile cold is still lingering - throat is so swollen I can barely swallow :( - which might be contributing. Perhaps I am just so used to fighting sleep (and I wonder where DD gets it from!) that I don't notice when I'm knackered? Confused

Bit smug/slightly anxious to confirm that I've lost nearly a stone since getting my BFP, through a combination of loss of appetite/feeling too sick to eat. Quite pleased I'm finally back to my pre-baby weight (in fact less than when I got pg the first time, as I was a stone overweight post-Christmas Blush) but can't help being mildly concerned about it (worried baby isn't getting enough nutrients etc)!

Have had a bit of blood in my spit this time round when toothbrushing - had to switch to soft bristles last time round. Had a bit of heartburn already as well. cara I didn't get my MAT1 form until really late last time round but just ticked the "Don't need to pay for prescriptions because pg" box and they check it on some internal database or something.

Gaviscon and bed time I think :)

nicolamumof3 · 03/01/2011 09:27

Morning all, how is everyone today?

Just wondered has anyone not told anyone yet in RL? I am 12+2 but haven't told my parents or close friends. Im starting to feel self concious as def getting a bump (already!) But don't like to announce til i've had scan and thats another 2 weeks yet!!!

I am supposed to be going for a spa day with my mum next week, hoping she just thinks its xmas podge!! But not sure how i'll excuse myself from using sauna, spa etc?!

MadAboutTheBoys · 03/01/2011 13:51

Hi Everyone,

Finally made it back after lots of travelling to see family at Christmas and friends at New Year and wanted to report back that booking scan all went well. It was amazing to see the baby's heartbeat on the screen especially as I'd just about convinced myself I wouldn't be so lucky this time. It was also lovely to have my two boys there to share the moment, even if they did pull the cable out of the monitor. I also got sent away twice to have a wee as had gone a bit overboard with the full bladder and the sonographer couldn't see the baby Blush

Family's reaction was positively underwhelming (we had to ask them if they were pleased) which was a real shame, but the reaction of friends made up for it. But is it really such a stretch for family who know we're been planning this baby to say they're happy for us Sad On the plus side, we resolved not to travel again at Christmas so hopefully this time next year we will be celebrating Christmas as a completed family in our new family home.

Decided to plump for the swine flu so will have the combined jab on Thursday. I felt a bit unsure about it, but I had to have antibiotics earlier in the pregnancy, which turned out ok, so perhaps I'm more relaxed about putting things into my system, if that makes any sense, plus I think I would get overwhelmed trying to read all the pros and cons so I just decided to go for it. Also now DS is at preschool I think there's more chance of catching it. He should be eligible for the jab too as he has some respiratory troubles, so we'll both be getting that done on Thursday.

Happy New Year to everybody. Wishing you all lots of luck for any scans still to come and congrats on those who have already had news. Just six months-ish til we get to meet our babies!

Fraochsmum · 03/01/2011 14:14

This time (and last actually) nicola, we told our closest family and friends around 6 weeks - purely because we knew they would be there if the worst happened. Then waited till our "12 week scan" to tell everyone else.
rarewelshbit we moved house in my first trimester, then got married at 32+4 in 2009, so I understand your worries. I have a lovely maternity wedding gown btw - bit large for you tho! Best wishes when it comes round xxx
My teeth have now started bleeding when washing again, which stopped after DD. Luckily I'm still getting free dental care with her so will just continue Smile
Re: swine flu jab - I am supposed to still be immune from last year, but am keen to have the seasonal flu one this time round.
I'm jealous of all you guys who waited for the bells! I went to bed at 11pm Blush
Still no pg symptoms here, although I have less of an appetite than normal.
Had my booking last week, which went well. Was quite surprised that I was only a few pounds heavier than this point with DD, thought I was deff a stone more. My mw doesn't do nuchal scans yet tho - they are trying to roll it out over the NHS area, but they are concentrating on training the city mw's before doing the rurals.
Happy New Year!

highheelsandequations · 03/01/2011 17:48

Well now I've started telling people and was beginning to relax and accept that I am pregnant and am actually having a baby I've started getting more brown spotting so am panicking again. Have heard lots of stories of similar and everything being okay plus a few people have told me it's common around 12 weeks so trying not to worry too much but wish I had a tellytubby screen in my belly and could see the LO in there and check it's doing okay!

GruffaloMama · 03/01/2011 18:22

Hello all - happy new year.

highheels hugs - I just had some spotting today - I had some at 5/6 weeks but no more until today. So also feeling nervy. Of course you're right that there's every chance we'll be fine. Have you had your scan yet? Mine isn't until 14 January... I tried to get a private one but the local places were all totally booked up. Still - I'm still feeling pukey and lots of other symptoms so am trying to stay positive.

Christmas and new year was lovely but v tiring - we were at home for christmas and then on a week of touring round to visit relatives - first night in my own bed for over a week tonight!!! So excited! DS was brill - the first christmas he knew what was happening. Enough to make me go all gooey.

emmywoo · 03/01/2011 19:08

All,
Happy New Year.
Well, after eventually getting over the flu and being prescribed Tamiflu for pregnant women which every pharmacy was out of stock of I am now feeling back to normal. Would just like to add that Dr didnt think i had swine flu but said better to be safe then sorry.
Boobs are still very tender but apart from that I dont have any other symptoms.
I have my 12wk scan on Friday (7th), only 4 more sleeps!!!! I am very excited but extremely nervous about it. I had a scan at 8+2 and saw heartbeat and everything was good I was told but just nervous about friday.
Well done to you all who stayed up to see New Year, I was in bed for 10.30pm!!!!
Love to all

isitreallythattime · 03/01/2011 20:33

Desperate for some advice..

I have searched on-line and still unclear on what is recommended. Ive had a headach for last 4 days and it is keeping me awake at night. Not miagrane but just constant. I took one paraceltamol on Sunday worryingly but didnt work. I feel like I should take one but worried. ANyone else suffering with headaches and are you taking pain killers?

GruffaloMama · 03/01/2011 20:37

Hi isitreally. Have you tried calling NHS Direct? Am sure they can give advice about what you can take/whether you should pop to the GP to get the headache checked out. It sometimes takes a while to get through but they've always called me back promptly if I've called them.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

highheelsandequations · 03/01/2011 20:49

isitreally paracetamol is the only painkiller you can use in pregnancy, not sure whether it's the usual dosage though. I've not taken it at all but doctor told me I could when I was having some cramping a few weeks back.

highheelsandequations · 03/01/2011 20:52

gruffalo hugs back for you too. I had spotting at 8 weeks that went on until about 11 weeks and everything was fine then, apparently I had a patch of bleeding in my uterine lining. Had my 12 week scan on Christmas eve and was dated 11+2 then, everything was fine but it doesn't stop me panicking that something's gone wrong since. Sure we'll both be fine and it's not long now till your scan.

lizandlulu · 03/01/2011 20:53

hiya can i join in here please? i am 12 weeks on wednesday. i am on another due in july thread but no one ever answers!

i have my first scan on the 11th which i am very excited about.

lizandlulu · 03/01/2011 20:55

hiya gruffalomama nice to see you again! i hope it is all well and nothing to worry about, did you speak to a gp?

cara2244 · 03/01/2011 21:04

Want2bSupermum thanks that's good advice - I have some mouthwash in the cupboard. Ouch yours sounds painful! I have been dosing myself with paracetemol today as it is just so painful :(

DitaVonCheese oooh I'm jealous of your weight loss! I am huge and only 12 weeks! I think I am bigger than I was at 20 weeks last time. I don't know how I have put on weight when I spent a month throwing up and barely able to eat grrr. Ah well, at least I have an excuse to buy maternity clothes :)

MadAboutTheBoys I think I am going to have the swine flu jab too. I work in a school and come into contact with so many people every day. I know what you mean....last pg I had nothing at all, apart from a couple of paracetemol late on for a painful back and Gaviscon. This time I have already had a course of antibiotics and have been taking paracetemol for 2 days for my toothache! If you have to, you have to I guess.

GruffaloMama my LO was the same - he loved Christmas and when we took the tree down today, he got tearful and said 'want more Christmas'. So cute! Must be a 2 year old thing.

nicolamumof3 · 03/01/2011 21:05

Is it really you can take co codamol i think but has to be presribed?

I have had some killer migraines really bad but just suffered with paracetamol so far. Not good, will be going to see doctor now holidays all over if they continue.

DitaVonCheese · 03/01/2011 21:17

Isitreally you have my sympathies - I had killer headaches with DD. I eventually cracked and took some paracetamol (quite difficult as it happens as we were on holiday in New York at the time and they don't call it paracetamol) and my MW reacted as though I'd taken heroin or something Hmm This time round, my (different) MW said at my booking in appt that you can take paracetamol and ibuprofen (one is analgesic, other is anti-inflammatory but can't remember which is which) and kind of overlap them a bit. Ibuprofen can irritate your stomach though so beware if you have MS still. Just googled co-codamol and it's not exactly recommended but no huge concerns about it either.

cara I would actually love to get into my maternity clothes Blush I only have one pair of jeans that I really wear, and due to a picnic malfunction on the way to DMIL's for Christmas, they now have massive grease stains on both thighs Hmm Seems no point buying more when they'll only fit for a few more weeks, but would like to get out of them. Also I have a pair of Next black trousers that I love so much that I was gutted when I couldn't wear them any more Blush

Fraochsmum · 03/01/2011 21:57

Welcome lizandlulu!
I know how you feel highheels - I told everyone on Christmas Eve and got spotting then next day :( nothing since tho.
I went out for dinner tonight with a group DH goes shooting with, and managed to get insulted twice in a few minutes. Barmaid (whom I used to work with) told the owner I was expecting to which he said "Really?". "Of course, look at her!" I said "Hoi! I'm not even showing yet - this is post-DD paunch!". FFS! Then the owner had the audacity to ask if it was intended!!! Knew I shouldn't have bothered...
I have no advice about painkillers Isit, but your mw's or NHS24 are probably your best bet. Hope it eases soon x

GruffaloMama · 04/01/2011 10:49

Hi liz - 12 weeks tomorrow for me too! MW moved my dates back as she based it on LMP - suspect that I'm only 11+2... Trying not to get excited until I get the scan. Spotting has stopped and was v v light so I think I'll just wait and see. No cramps either so fingers' crossed... Need to phone the GP for my blood tests and a flu jab too.

Scan isn't til a week on Friday so not sure I want to tell work until I've had that. Most family and friends know already (apart from those at work - didn't want to put them in a difficult spot).

Highheels how is the head this morning?

Cara they're brill at 2 aren't they - DH went back to work this morning. DS kissed him goodbye and looked up and said 'lub you!' DH melted!

nicolamumof3 · 04/01/2011 11:31

Morning all, im still so so nervous about this baby, keep convincing myself something amiss, tho i've had no bleeding whatsoever. I wish i could relax as its really affecting my sleep now too Sad

Have my scan in a fortnight, but think im going to have to go for another private to put my mind at rest.

Sorry to be on a downer ladies, hope i snap out of it soon!!

lizandlulu · 04/01/2011 12:31

hope you feel better soon nicolamumof3 think positive! i keep thinking that it is all a dream and i will wake up one morning with the mother of all late periods! untill i see the scan i suppose it doesnt feel real for anyone. (apart from the general crappy feeling)

had the flu jab this morning. it was all over before i even knew the nurse had the needle out! and feel fine so far, no achey arm or anything like that.
