Pregnancy with a toddler is not to be recommended, but everyone else I know seems to be managing! I'm watching an antenatal friend struggle with her new baby and hitherto sweet little girl, who's now playing up and pushing boundaries at every opportunity... dreading it, tbh!

MrsSnaplegs · 04/12/2010 01:22

Reshape welcome back!

Mamathulu · 04/12/2010 03:52

Hi all,

OWO crazykate & MrsSL Best of luck!! By this time tomorrow, all those horrid pg probs will have faded away into the distance as you'll have your LO's! First days are so lovely!

Kelle you know, your DH might be onto something here!! They say that ingestion of man juice is more effective than dtd, maybe it's the same with pineapples - that you do the opposite of what you would do normally?? [fhmm}

Chooster many congratulations, it does sound like an amazing experience - having had 3 sections, I've never actually had the chance to do the whole labouring bit, but I can imagine it must be an overwhelmingly emotional experience as they come out!

RSD I completely agree with the toddler thing - my DS3 is 20 months and keeps banging into me, hitting my bump, and trying to climb all over me! It's really hard because I've been quite sensitive and not really wanting anyone near me for a while now. If he's like this now though, I'm dreading what he'll be like when DC4 arrives!

38+1 now - all booked in for CS next Weds! had a bit of a scare at the clerking today, when they thought my waters might have gone for a while, but everything was fine and they let me come home. My false start on Weds probably didn't help much, but things seem to have calmed down again now, so hoping I'll make it to the 8th. Now I just have to decide whether the weather's ok enough down here to go and teach my celeb cello student and his son for their lessons tomorrow. It's only about 5 miles away, but I'd feel really guilty if I didn't go, as he travels a lot for his work, and managed to get halfway up the country and back this week! And I've got a few wee Crimble pressies to give them all as this will be our last lesson til February. Dh has said he'll run me up there and back but it'll mean taking DS3 - does anyone think this is mad?

93pjb · 04/12/2010 06:26

hi all,
mamathulu don't know where you are but here in London it is definitely thawing at the moment.

This is very exciting, hoping for lots of wonderful stories of new arrivals this weekend. Thinking of you all.

Won't reply to everyone as I've been offline most of the week and things as always move so fast on here.

Had consultant on Friday last week and they think this little boy is average sized although I still measure very small which is good news.

We finally moved in to the new house on Monday (at 37+1!). So so lucky that the snow didn't arrive until later that evening. Dealing with a few snagging issues at the moment - no cold water in showers and a leaking loo but love the house otherwise. We didn't get our massive furniture order from Ikea on Wednesday and I am so fed up of sitting on the floor - it is okay once I'm down there but getting up again is difficult! Thankfully DD and cats have been really good. and we are finally getting the furniture today!

Saw the midwife yesterday and requested a homebirth, not what they were expecting at almost 38 weeks! But it's what I've always wanted and now I finally feel confident that it is the right thing to do with this LO. I need to phone the community midwifery team on monday and see if they'll take me on...

Apologies for long, self-centred post but wanted to share

MrsSnaplegs · 04/12/2010 07:38

Well I'm still here - woken once in night with a painful contraction type pain but nothing since.
For those following owo thread she has been taken into hospital although according to her DP sister who is updating the thread and is a MW they are ok ! She was labouring at home most of the night.
93pjb glad the move has finally happened and hope you get your furniture and your HB!!
DD school fair today so off to that this morning then quiet afternoon I think!

Mamathulu · 04/12/2010 10:43

Many congratulations on the new home 93pjb - we wanted to move before the arrival of this DC, but it wasn't to be - DH just couldn't get enough holiday time to finish the DIY so we couldn't get it on the market in time. Hopefully we will in the spring though!

MrsSL, I hope OWO's ok.

Yeah, it's all thawed out here down on the sunny south coast, so sure I'll be fine driving up there and back. dh's just gone out to go and get the baby's chest of drawers which'll be exciting and gives me another chance to play with the baby clothes!

maxpower · 04/12/2010 12:42

Just quickly popping in to say I hope everyone's coped with the snow - we've had no internet since Tuesday when part of a tree came down and ripped the phone line out!

Congratulations Chooster !

Wholelottalove · 04/12/2010 12:52

Hi all. 93pjb congrats on home move and hope your water gets sorted soon. There's no reason why you shouldn't get your HB even at this stage.

mamathulu enjoy playing with the baby clothes :)

Chooster what a lovely birth story. Sounds like you had a really positive experience. Thanks for posting it.

RWD I feel like I am struggling a bit with DD. She wet the bed last night and then we couldn't settle her back to sleep. Every time I was drifting off she was shouting for me. Got up 4 times with her in the end, and I hadn't actually been to sleep yet at that point. DH let me sleep in until 8 this morning when he had to leave for work though.

laziness I'm 38+1 but with DC2. I think it might be a little bit different second time around as the baby doesn't engage for example. Well mine hasn't anyway! Although still lots of pressure down below.

Felt quite odd last night, shivery and very flushed and weird, but feel better today. I had some odd shooting pains from my pelvis all down the front of my legs too. BH ramped up a little more, but baby has wriggled its way into a different position which I think may be why I was feeling strange. I'm 99% sure it is still head down, but it is definitely lying a tiny bit oddly.

My brother came over this morning and I was quite surprised at how positive he was about my planned HB as we hadn't discussed it before. His wife had their two in the same hospital I had DD and had some not great experiences so he thinks it makes total sense to be at home.

I am hoping this one is early, unlike DF as I've had enough, but sadly I suspect it won't be! Hope you can hold on though DF :)

Wholelottalove · 04/12/2010 12:54

MrsS missed your post. Sounds like things are moving along for you. Fingers crossed for OWO and hope she is holding her lovely baby soon.

laurenamium · 04/12/2010 13:11

Hey all just checking in 40+3 now and still no signs! Hope all is well with owo and she's got her baby in her arms soon :-) x

from OWO's labour thread.

ButtonAzure · 04/12/2010 15:13

How exciting :) Congratulations OWO!

(whereabouts is her labour thread?)

gailforce1 · 04/12/2010 15:31

OWO - labour thread on Chat.

CherylAnnTweedy · 04/12/2010 17:25

Can I just ask what is 'established' labour? I've heard it used a lot of late and was wondering what the difference is between established and normal labour? Is it a term that's come in in the last 5 years? As I've never heard it until recently.

laurenamium · 04/12/2010 18:22

Aw congratulations owo fantastic :-)

ebrookm · 04/12/2010 18:27

From what I understand you have established labour after early labour? I'm not entirely sure.

Congratulations OWO and Chooster! Very exciting! Should we start to track the babies, names, etc.

I am 40 + 3 and going a little stir crazy. Nothing much is happening - random tweaks and twinges here and there and a major increase in discharge plus pressure down below. Other than that I am twiddling my thumbs mostly.

We are going to a dinner party I thought for sure we would be skipping due to the little one's arrival - not really in the mood, but then again, I should take advantage while I can...

Hope you are all having a great weekend and feeling well. Looking forward to hearing more birth stories and good news! :)

laurenamium · 04/12/2010 18:49

Argh I just typed a post then lost it all stupid I phone!

I thought established labour was from when you were between 4cm dilated and the baby being born?I might be wrong though!

Do you think the midwife will let me go to aquanatal on Monday at 40+5? Im only planning on going if there's still no signs but I would like to go as it might be the last chance I get to exercise in a while!

crazykat · 04/12/2010 20:10

AFAIK you're in established labour once you are 4cm dilated and have painful and regular contractions. I'm really not looking forward to that part as it really hurts. Hopefully this time it'll be relatively short like with the first two.

39+4 today and I'm still getting quite painful BH but still not changing much from yesterday - I'll get them for a few hours then it all stops. At this rate I'll end up having the baby at home or on the way to hospital as I'll be thinking it's just BH. I'm starting to get really fed up now.

MrsSnaplegs · 04/12/2010 20:21

Evening all - great news about owo!
I managed walk to and from DD Xmas fair today and then slept on sofa for a few hours.
Some mild regular contractions for past 3 hours but waters still intact so not getting too excited!
Hope everyone is ok.
C&G - if you are still reading, thinking of you!

laziness · 04/12/2010 21:40

hi all

so happy to hear about OWO many congrats :)

i think i wrote the wrong week up there..im 37+2 today..

since yesterday, i've been feeling a lot of baby movement and feel like my tummy is so heavy all of a sudden...felt tired & lethargic too all day..
don't have an appointment with the MW till next thursday..so wondering if I should give her a call or something or is it all normal?? Confused..
any suggestions?

apart from these..i haven't had any major problem thankfully...

sorry about the self centred post..but i would really appreciate some help...:)

Chooster · 05/12/2010 08:19

hi all,

laziness - its tricky when its your first but it all sounds normal to me. I felt a lot of heaviness in the lead up to the big day but it should be just the babys head dropping lower in yout pelvis. You could always phone during their hours and I'm sure they'll be happy to speak to you on the phone.

This is DC3 and I was a bit in the dark about established labour, but looking at my notes this was from about 4cm. The first stage was 4-10cm, then second stage pushing and third was delivery of placenta. From beginning to end mine was 3 hours but i would have considered it more 5 hours with early labour included Hmm. Faster than my others thats for sure!!! Smile

Better head, boys to feed but will check out OWO's thread!!

OnlyWantsOne · 05/12/2010 08:28

my god I am so happy not to be pregnant any more!!!!!!

Grin unnamed baby so cute and snuggley, hope you are all well :)

laurenamium · 05/12/2010 10:39

Congratulations OWO xxx

Wholelottalove · 05/12/2010 10:48

OWO :o :o

laziness I think it sounds normal to me, especially if your baby is lining itself up and engaging as it were, everything feels like it's about to drop out underneath IIRC! Also the tiredness totally normal at this stage, there is a lot of work going on in your body so try and rest as much as possible. This last bit is a nightmare :)

I think established labour is from 4cm onwards and 'early' or 'latent' the bit before where your cervix is softening and getting ready. You can still be having painful contractions in the early phase though. Also it doesn't necessarily go in a smooth progression, x cms and hour etc, so for eg with DD it took me a good 30 hours of contractions to get to 4 cm but then only 3 hours to get to 10cm and an hour or so of pushing (baby in awkward position though which accounts for the length of the early labour). During that time although contractions weren't regular they were increasingly painful.

DD is round at my sister's house this morning so having some time to chill and do some housework. Hope everyone has a nice Sunday.

DuelingFanjo · 05/12/2010 11:51

Oh I hope this baby is late - I really really do!

No signs here, am now 39 weeks and have the midwife tomorrow so interested to find out how engaged the baby is. I am getting back aches whenever I exert myself which I have somehow managed to miss out on through the rest of the pregnancy. Nothing else though. Stay in there baby!
