newyearmummy I did NCT classes with DS and, although I didn't actually learn much that I couldn't have found out myself, I did meet a group of mums who were all at the same stage and we all had our babies around the same time. DS is now 2.5 and I still see at least one of my NCT group every week and we regularly have larger gatherings. I would really recommend it for meeting a group of mum-friends (as long as someone makes the first efforts to meet up outside the classes!)

Some people say NCT can be a bit full on re natural birth and breastfeeding but I didn't find that at all - probably depends on class leader though - the dads found the image of our 50yr old ish leader imitating contractions on the floor most disconcerting!!

ladybuzz great news you have the all clear!

Sorry for those having aches and pains. I am sick of the sight of paint having decorated our hall and playroom but the end is in sight now and can start doing nice baby and christmas preparation things!

Newyearmummy · 25/09/2010 18:33

Hi everyone. Had midwife appointment and all is well. They have given me a growth scan appointment for Nov, so will get another chance to see baby :)

wonder snuffle and crumble queen thanks for the info. We'll give it a go.

lady buzz congratulations.

gallicgirl · 25/09/2010 18:53

I have yet to meet my midwife :(

I've seen three different ones so far for one reason and another. I've decided I might like a home birth so I hope I like the woman when I do finally meet her!

I'm getting a bit fed up at having to chase around for information and reschedule appointments. I feel like nothing is simple.

I am, however, really enjoying my yoga class and meeting other mums-to-be. I've signed up for NCT classes too, partly for the information but also to socialise! None of my friends live that local to me so it's always good to make new friends. :o

Emsyboo · 26/09/2010 09:39

Adding myself to the list:

EmsyBoo EDD 12/01 28, pg1, BOY

Reading through some of the posts but still need to catch up on a few bits

Hope you are all well and congrats on your pregnancies!

Am really stressed out with money as have our own business and had very bad advice from accountant whichc may have screwed up my entitlement for SMP so like Walkthedog looking at options on Maternity allowance etc fingers crossed!

Have completely lost sex drive but may be due to antenatal depression been putting off antidepressants for the past3 months for babies sake but seeing the GP on Monday about goin gon them as getting worse :(

Dunno about anyone eles but having bad baby brain, left my camera in the loo at a wedding which never got back, keep going to the bank and forgetting cheques forgetting simplest of tasks! Driving me mad!

littlehuman · 26/09/2010 10:41

hi emsyboo

mummychicken · 26/09/2010 18:52

I read that they did a study into "baby brain" and the conclusion was that it did not exist Hmm. Of course the study was conducted by men!

gallicgirl · 26/09/2010 20:11

I struggle to get to the end of a sentence sometimes and my work colleagues have definitely noticed my pregnancy brain!

I do worry if I'm safe to drive sometimes.

Saying that, I'm not above milking it a little bit Blush

superparty · 27/09/2010 14:52

24 + 3

Hello yummu mummies, hope you are all well as can be. I'm back at work after my last stint of mat leave, this will be my 3rd full wk and I've had enough already, roll on 13th december.

I'm now 24 wks pg, with my little boy, and everything is good, until sat when my siatica started, although I am now convinced it may be pelvic girdle pain, so I am now sat at work in agony hobbling around on crutches, I think I've been lucky to get away with it until now, having only just had erin in Jan. I am going to make an appointment to see physio and maybe get one of those belts.

ladybuzz a little girl, awwwwwww (I am a little jealous)

I am starting to get a little excited about my little boy, and we've (dh and other kids)started looking at boys names, making it seem more real, although I certainly won't be convinced until he comes out Smile
My big boy (17) smiles when he says brother its so sweet (well I suppose after 5 sisters, 4 of mine, 1 of his dads, he kinda gave up hoping for a brotherSmile).
I have another scan booked for christmas eve, as my placenta is low, so it will definately be confirmed then.

Sadfor poorly cat.

Waves to everyone

WalkTheDog · 27/09/2010 17:30

just a quick hello - OH has been hogging the laptop for the last few days - his back/sciatica got a lot worse, he can't sit up without being in a lot of pain-he's taken the day off work today, in hope that another day of no sitting might help it. Luckily my pelvic pain is much better. Using a belt for dog walks and if standing for any length of time.

Will catch up on all the news I've missed tomorrow (if OH returns to work)

wondersnuffle · 27/09/2010 22:13

Just a quick one from me as I've been busy, nothing exciting or fun but a return to morning sickness, which is worse in the evenings. Anyone else starting on late pregnancy sickness yet? (although 25 weeks is probably too early to refer to as late pregnancy... it's only about 3 weeks since I stopped the early pregnancy sickness!)

littlehuman · 28/09/2010 11:06

abigailemily · 28/09/2010 15:57

hello! I'm a little bit late no this thread, but I'm due in january, the 20th. So that makes me 23+5...

I'm 23 and this will be my first baby, so very scary and exciting at the same time!

I've just moved to bristol to be with my boyfriend, but don't really know that many people here, and especially don't know anyone who is pregnant and going through the same sort of things, especially at my age. I just got a job a pumpkin patch the baby clothes shop, so i spend most of my days watching babies...

I have a blog where i moan and wonder about things related to pregnancy abigailandthefuture.blogspot.com/

so hi everyone!

WalkTheDog · 29/09/2010 10:54

welcome to the newbies :o

wondersnuffle I have a gymball, had for years, but it has been deflated since our move and I can't find the stopper - saw it about 3 weeks ago, if can't find it in the next few days, I will beg a spare off my old workmates, I know there are plenty in the desk drawer (I saved and put them in there!)

I would miss our sky+ box, so would def suggest getting a system you can record on. Not a huge tv fan, but if I do like to watch something it is nice to have something good to watch.

Oh and hope your sickness isn't too bad wondersnuffle. Mine has never fully gone. Luckily I haven't been sick since week 17, been close a few times. I find it is worse if I am tired or have to get up and leave house too quickly.

crumblequeen sounds like you getting to the fun part of decorating :)

emsyboo hope GP appt went ok. It might not be the depression that has reduced your sex drive, quite common in pg for it either to increase or decrease. Added you to the list properly :)

superparty hope your pelvic pain is ok - I got myself a serola belt (they were the ones I found most helpful for my patients). Depending on where you live your physio might give it to you for free. They can be a bit uncomfy when sitting, but really help me for walking and standing. How sweet a scan on chirstmas eve :)

I am being my OH's chauffeur. His back is a bit better, but sitting is still sore, so easier if he avoids driving. Must look quite odd, me driving and him sprawled out on the back seat - he ducked down yesterday as we were leaving the school as a group of pupils were walking past!!!

So far :
14 surprises or secrets
8 boys
5 girls
will be nice to see what totals do end up as :o

Added myself to list and just noticed there are a lot of 30+ mums. Maybe younger mums just text their friends? lol
I hope everyone is feeling ok. Finally saw my regular midwife today which was very reassuring. I also seem to have booked myself in for a home birth Shock. DP seems to have taken it ok though. He's pretty much going with the flow which is very brave of him!

berrycravings · 29/09/2010 18:30

Hi to all,
26+4

So sleeping is getting more problematic, I woke 8 times last night and have been a very grumpy person today!

I have also had a complete reversal regarding birthing plans. I was chatting to my MW about my fears of going to our local hospital (not best reputation) and that the birthing centre being 30 mins away is a bit far when my DH does not drive. She suggested we go for a home birth, managed to raise it with DH and at first he was dead against it but as we talked through it we are both starting to really like the idea. Has anyone had a homebirth?

Hope everyone is well, so scary to be starting to think of the birth, but I finally feel ready to be facing it.

Hannah1890 · 29/09/2010 20:13

Hi all, just a quick catch up/moan. Been sick with a tummy bug for past 3 days so not been able to eat, really not fun, and no chance of getting any sleep since our LO was obviously seriously unimpressed by the grumbling of my stomach and has been jumping around like crazy!

Got all our baby stuff at the weekend aswell, all second hand from family but got home and was so excited to get it out of the car felt like I'd been on a massive shopping spree!! so exciting, although think it finally hit home to my bf that there is actually going to be a baby needing all that stuff quite soon.

Cant believe how quickly times going now!!
Also starting to get scared about the birth but think were very lucky that our local hospital which is about 5 minutes away has a very good reputation.

mummychicken · 29/09/2010 20:52

25w +4
berrycravings I've not had a homebirth but as DS only took 2.5 hours from start to finish Grin and second babies are ment to come quicker (gulp), it is something I really should be thinking about. My issues with it are

  1. Plastic sheeting - really!
  2. The mess - not the birth bit but when all the ascociated stuff comes out eg placenta etc
  3. Plastic sheeting (I know I mentioned that already but I really do have a bit of a problem giving birth on a plastic sheet)

Suppose I need to look into it a bit more!

OP posts:
gallicgirl · 29/09/2010 22:10

perhaps get an old/cheap quilt to put over the sheeting?

My understanding is that the midwives clear up all the mess and you wouldn't know there'd been a birth.

PenguinNZ · 30/09/2010 10:05

Congratulations January ladies! May I join you?

My due date is 26 Jan, but due to complications last time I will be having a CS at 38/39 weeks, so I'll say 19 Jan for now.

I have one DS, 2.3 and from the 20 week scan, it looks like I'm having another boy this time too. Grin

Oh and the name probably shows I'm currently living in NZ...this year anyway. Grin

6 months today!!!and starting the 3rd trimester.

i often forget i am pg lately, i am so worried about my cat's health getting worse,
having to record his blood glucose level, injecting insulin, being so careful with his diet, visit/calls to the vet...

anyway except for that bump still very small so no bothering me at all.(finger crossed). i suppose i got to be lucky somewhere Grin

Crystylline · 30/09/2010 13:03

Hi All.

I'm due 21/01 and not sure what sex as yet. Scan is Wednesday and I want to know.

I'm 31 and it's my first (and a big suprise) baby.

sarrita · 30/09/2010 14:10

Penguin NZ, abigailemily, Dancingcat, Emsyboo and bunnybaby welcome!

Hannah1890 cool to get all the 2nd hand stuff = massive saving! We got everything 2nd hand, all we bought new was a cot mattress and change mat.

Berrycravings - homebirth sounds lovely. I have read some really good descriptions of it. Our flat walls are too thin; really don't want the neighbours being part of it all.

Gallicgirl - the average age of a Mum nowadays is 29. So that might explain the lack of 20 somethings. Thought you are probably right and they are all txting or blogging or something.

Wondersnuffle - sick again!. I am sorry.

WalktheDog - try swimming, I have pain when walking so swimming works much better. Not much good with a dog though.

Welcome back superparty.

Mummychicken - heard about the baby brain study. But I understood that the explanation for it was preoccupation - so still an excuse! You are a bit out of it but it is not permanent. Which I found reassuring. Plus who has had a decent night sleep recently? Sleep depreavtion definitley makes you less alert/more dumb.

Deedee321 hope potty training's going well.

DS has finally started pre-school after a lovely trip to France. He is there just now. He had a lovely time and we managed to snatch a little of summer from the jaws of winter, and get some freckles and swim. I ate everything I am not supposed to; soft cheese, pate, raw oysters, and shell fish.

Ugggh. I have a varicose vein that runs from my groin all the way down to my calf - ugly and itchy. Anyone else got v-veins?

Unfortunately DH was made redundant yesterday. Bit a blow really, but at least he just got 6 days of holiday in. :(

sarrita · 30/09/2010 14:11

Oh and Crystylline - welcome too.

FunkyMonkey1983 · 30/09/2010 14:51

27w + 3

littlehuman I'm jealous of your little bump. I look like I've got a football stuffed up my top and worried that I'm going to give birth to a monster sized baby!

sarrita my DH was also made redundant recently too. He was told it would happen just 2 weeks after we found out I was pregnant.
