The last 2 days I have so much better in terms of sickness and exhaustion I felt vaguely normal today which was great Smile still peeing lots and boobs tender.

zatsi with my 1st I also got lost in the system, I didn't get booked until I was 16 weeks and didn't get referred in time to have nuchal scan either. It was a very frustrating and daunting time. I do hope things are sorted out for you.

I have my scan in 2 weeks I'll be 11+4 I'm having the bloods taken exactly a week before, they don't have to be within 24 hours.

Also having my booking in this friday at the hospital, it's a bit annoying that they don't come to my house, a lot of other trusts community midwives do where I train we always do the 1st appt at home, I'm even more annoyed by the fact it is at 8.30am!

polkadottytotty · 23/08/2010 22:31

Hello to Medee, Larty and Zatzi (sorry to hear about your bad experience so far)

Glad your scan went so well Madas - must be a huge weight off your mind.

I am also expecting my third Niamh - havn't told anyone from work yet (I'm a teacher and been on school holidays) but I expect I will get several comments along the same lines. My mum wasn't particularly overjoyed when I told her - she thinks I'm creating more work and stress for myself. But like you I've always wanted three (four really - don't tell DH!), and I've always felt like there is someone missing in our little family. Have you told your other DC, are they excited? Mine are 4 and almost 6 and it's so lovely being able to share the experience with them.

Glad lots of us are starting to feel better. I actually fancied and drank a cup of tea this evening for the first time in weeks. Although I'm still needing to get up and go to the loo in the middle of the night and then struggling to get back to sleep. Is anyone still finding this?

Muser · 23/08/2010 22:37

Congrats on your third niamh. It's weird how having 3 is seen as so odd now. Loads of my friends are from families of 3. I'm the third of 3, husband is the first of 3. It used to be common enough, you think people wouldn't be so shocked.

Morning girls

Just popping by to say hi to everyone and welcome to the newbies Smile

I have my scan at 11.30 this morning and am very apprehensive. I am also having my blood taken whilst I am there. I haven't started drinking my water allocation yet! Going to pop to the loo for one last time (maybe!) before i do. Am not too hung up on drinking the 2 litres/pints (?) that it said in the letter, I didn't last time, I felt too sick, and the sonographer didn't mention it. In fact, she asked me if I wanted to go to the loo straight after she was finished scanning me, before she went through the results with me! Wonder if technology has just got better since that advice was introduced... hmm... One to ponder whilst I am waiting at work this morning.

Sorry, I am rambling! Can you tell I just want 11.30 to be here now?

Mendip - good news that they moved your due date forward a week! Even closer now! I'm secretly hoping that will happen to me but I think if anything they are going to move it back.

Will let everyone know how I get on.

Hope everyone is well and those girls waiting for results get the ones they want and quickly...

EvaLongoria · 24/08/2010 09:53

Good Morning All

Just a quick one. I am getting ready for my booking appointment at 11:15. I cant wait. I know not a lot is happening but just to finally move forward makes the pregnancy even more real. Have scan on the 9th Sept.

Good Luck EvianBaby hope all goes well.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 24/08/2010 10:08

Morning all.

niamh - I have had lots of comments like that, my dad (who is generally lovely and helpful etc) said "blimey how many are you going to have?" as if this was number 8.

Well had our scan yesterday. I was just saying to DH how I have found all of the staff I have met so far really nice and helpful. Well that changed with the sonographer, who no less than 3 times told me that I had a fat belly and that is why I needed to pull my trousers further down, pictures slightly blurred etc. THEN and this is my pet hate, she asked me my ethnic origin which I chose to be Mixed Other as that is what I consider myself and she said "well you look white" and refused to put what I wanted. I have no problem being white you understand it is just that normally there are variations as in white-british white-european etc and Turkish is often listed separately and I just think it should be my choice and after fat comments I had enough of her anyway.

The nuchal scan was less than one so that is good but I did want to have the test as even though I doubt I would consider a termination (although have never been here so who knows) I felt that if there are any complications I would prefer to be prepared.

Anyway... all good in the mixed household. Sickness still about but just feel better in general. Still quite tired but reading again and managed (just) to stay up till 10pm last night.

Zatzi - I would consider changing hospital personally, I stuck with a really awful service last time thinking it was just my MW etc and honestly from beginning to end was just so disheartened. Can I suggest UCH? It is brilliant (had DS1 there) and many of my friends have been there and ALL have had great experiences.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 24/08/2010 10:09

Oh and my dates are exactly right. So today is 12 +1.

polkadottytotty · 24/08/2010 10:20

Glad your scan went well mixedmama - although your sonographer was incredibly rude - don't know how they can get away with that tbh. I'm a teacher and if I said that to a pupil I would be out of a job.

Good luck with your appointments Eva and Evian - let us know how you get on.

coraltoes · 24/08/2010 10:20

Hi all,
had my scan at 8 this morning, and everything was fine! mini-me was flopping about and waving, nuchal line looked "microscopic" so we just wait on the bloods, but they seemed optimistic, which is a relief.

I've informed work now, and all friends/family, what a lovely load off my shoulders! No more lying! Also feeling a bit better nausea wise, but sleeping very badly. Anyone else just waking at random times for no reason??

I am showing a bit now, which is cool but means my clothes are all too tight. DH was over the moon at the scan, his face lit up with pride!

Zatzi hello, welcome! I have no idea how you didnt murder the idiots. I'd have been fuming!!

Oceanbreeze yep, right with you on the hair. I seem to be plucking all the time!! Confused

all the best of luck to the ladies awaiting scans and results and yay to all you who have had good news recently. We're finally heading into our 2nd trimester, ladies!

BramblyHedge · 24/08/2010 11:25

Oh I could cry - still no scan letter and I am 12+3. They don't seem to answer their phones either. I bet they will do it for the 2nd Sept at 9am as that is when my biggest baby is starting school for the first time. Ggrr

Anyway might add myself to the stats as fed up with waiting!

Hi all,

Haven't been on for a while as work has been manic- it's all go with you guys isn't it! So exciting to read about the scans- as I mentioned before we go on our delayed honeymoon on my weeks 11-13 so I'm having the scan when I get back, in my 13th week. So looking forward to it. It's a shame it's not earlier because of us being away but then on the plus side the little fetus should be bigger and clearer shouldn't it (well, by a bit)

Still feeling sick- though only being sick after my evening meal now which is an improvement.

Had to tell my other line manager yesterday as work was so manic- lurching from one disaster to another- that I thought I'd pass out if I wasn't allowed to go home. She was v. nice about it.

I live in London and smelling traffic fumes is a killer for me- I guess it's my body saying that it's poison (same with cigarette smoke) so I'm having to hold a scarf up to my nose on my walk to the station! I must look like a nutter.

I'm still not on the list so here it is again- with me!

Hi All,
Soo good to have all the scan news coming in - it is so exciting. That makes me want mine to be closer of course! - well who doesn't really. Still two weeks to wait tho :(

It is very annoying for those who feel left out in the system - incredibly so. Believe me I understand. Unfortunately I was once told it coud be better to 'scream' and 'make some noise' and act unpolitely because then you may get somewhere. Although it is not nice. Brambleyhedge is there a way you could go there perhaps? Not practical of course..

For those of us who are waking up at odd hours or not sleeping properly - oh i'm one of them, there are useful tips on the babycentre website. My waking hour is normally about 3:30!!! And amongst other things, I also think about work - silly me.

By any chance is there anyone who is booked at or has experienec with Princess Alexandra Hospital - Harlow? Thank you!

jeffily · 24/08/2010 12:43

Hello all

Haven't been checking in and haven't read through your posts since I last did- all feels too worrying still that my preg will not be continuing. But I hope everyone is well and that scans have been fab for you all and that you are all coming out of the sickness period.

Just thought I would update you on what is going on with us. We've got a risk of 1:80 with the bloods for Downs- which is better than I was fearing after the big nuchal measurement. There is still a huge mountain to climb ahead of us of potential problems and risks- we have a scan tomorrow to see what the deal is with the abdominal abruption, it is possible that it is strongly related to Edwards syndrome (1:2) but it might be totally unrelated, so just waiting to see with that. We then have a heart scan on 7th Sept, if all is well with the tummy to check the heart. We're going to go for CVS testing as we have decided after much soul searching that we would not go on with the pregnancy if the baby does have downs, and our risk of miscarriage if we do is less than the risk of downs. So there are more days of waiting and worrying ahead of me. I hope that I will be back, with good news in a week or so, and that I will continue on this wonderful journey with you you, but if not then I genuinely wish you all much, much happiness with your little ones. May your pregnancies be happy and worry free.

I'll be back to let you know either way.
Much love J

sam26oscar · 24/08/2010 13:22

Hi everyone, jeffily so sorry to hear your'e still uncertain with your pg Sad.
I have had my dating scan this morning and they put me ahead by 3 days yay!! i know its only 3 days but that makes a huge difference in being just over 12 weeks to 12+5 days now Smile also a few days closer to not feeling nauseous???!!! i have my nuchal scan tomorrow and have blood test at 10.20am then at 11.20 am have got scan, like i said before am fully expecting results there and then! I am 40 so my odds are significantly higher before i even start!! Fingers crossed for those still uncertain, good luck to those having a scan soon Grin by the way DH came to the scan and has made him loads more chatty about it now!! think it sunk in there is something in there not just fat Blush !!

Larty74 · 24/08/2010 13:23

Lots of love and thoughts, prayers, and whatever else works going out to you jeffily

superpenguin · 24/08/2010 13:26

Hello everyone,
My, it's been a busy day for scans!

I also had my scan this morning and am over the moon, can't stop smiling! Grin

It was absolutely amazing to see my little baby there on the screen, I was totally transfixed! Good news, they confirmed there is only one in there! and we could see all the major parts - head, body, arms, legs, and could see the little heart beating.
Oh and the crown to rump measurement was 6cm which they say puts me at 12+4 and my due date forward to 4th March! I was convinced it was going to go the other way as thought I had ovulated late, so either I was totally out with my ovulation or this baby is a fast grower!

Got a photo too, I will see if I can figure out how to get it onto the computer at some point in the future!

And for an added bonus they actually managed to get blood out of my hopeless veins too!

They didn't tell me the nuchal measurement then, they wait until the bloods have been tested and then write with the combined results probably next week.

DH and I are so happy and now telling everyone we know the news!
Grin Grin Grin

Larty74 · 24/08/2010 13:34

Great news superpenguin! My due dates the 4th as well, but sounds likely to change once you get the scan!

Geez can time go any slower - C'MON 4th Sept!

mixedmamameansbusiness · 24/08/2010 13:47

Jeffily - thinking of you still.

sevenbubbles · 24/08/2010 15:33

Jeffily so sorry to hear what you are going through. Big hugs

Madasajarofwasps · 24/08/2010 17:10

Jeffily I am praying for you. You really don't deserve to have all this worry again. Waiting is so hard. Take care xxx

BramblyHedge · 24/08/2010 17:11

Sorry to hear about your worries Jeffily.

Having spoken to hospital, another hospital and midwives again they say I have to call every day and hope for a nuchal scan cancellation (ie. some poor person miscarrying). Very practical with two kids (2 and 4) and a partner who works an hour away. I asked if there were any other options and they said no, and I might not even get a scan!! So have found out I can have a private scan at the private bit of the same hospital for £177. Going to book it tomorrow as could do without the stress (the NHS lady didn't even suggest this as an option which I thought was a bit crap).

I really don't get why I have been left out - I did everything I should in good time. Oh well, just want the scan, that's the main thing.

PipPipPip · 24/08/2010 17:20

Hi everyone and special hi to newbies,

I haven't been on for a while so I thought I'd give a little update on how I am.

I spent the weekend camping at a music festival. I was camping with a bunch of friends (late 20s, early 30s) half of whom knew I was pregnant, half didn't. It was fun keeping the secret - accepting the odd drink, only to pass it to a friend etc.

I am pleased that I managed to enjoy a music festival without drinking or smoking.

It was an exhausting weekend, though, with lots of physical activity (dancing, carrying the camping gear, walking through mud, standing all day etc) so have come back with a cold.

Other than that, I'm feeling fine. Looking forwards to getting organised with scan, doctors etc.

Good to hear of everyone's experiences, both good and bad. You really are a lovely bunch!

Jeffily my thoughts are with you and your partner. Wishing you the very best.

PipPipPip

PipPipPip · 24/08/2010 17:24

PS. Earlier, KPidgeon asked for excuses on not drinking.

My advise is to simply accept a drink (perhaps you can say "just a small one, thanks") and then either a) drink very slowly b) not drink it at all or c) pass it to your partner or friend.

Accepting seems to throw people off the scent. In my experience, people aren't very observant!

sarahmia · 24/08/2010 18:22

jeffily i know i dont come on here very often but i just want you to know that i really know wwhat your going through, we were told the same thing last time and had 2 weeks of hell before we went back to have another look. sadly our story didnt end well but i know ppl who's did... i just wish you the strength to get through this time and im thinking of you.

EvianBaby · 24/08/2010 20:26

jeffily first of all I just wanted to say again how sorry I am that you are going through this. It must be one of the hardest things that anyone would have to deal with. I truly hope that everything works out for you. You are so gracious to be wishing everyone else well when you must just want to cry and feel upset. You deserve for the next results to be positive. I'm thinking of you.
