Hi polkadottytotty - thanks for the black trouser suggestion - gonna need some very soon, - couldn't wait to get home today and change into my pj bottoms! and they come in short sizes. amazing how suddenly everything almost doesn't fit!

Welcome MummyGeorgie and Purplefan - I live in SW oxfordshire/almost wiltshire. what hospital are you going to?

Hattie05 - re: the wait, I guess I'm at the mercy of the NHS? got my letter at least a month ago! I'm from america and fortunately haven't had to utilise the health system over here much - until now. beside being my first baby, feel like a bit of a novice re: healthcare. I about choked when I read in my notes where it said you can go home anytime from 2-24 hours after giving birth! In america you stay for at least 2 nights - and they do everything for you! Confused

niamh29 · 22/08/2010 22:07

Sorry to hear the bad news stories, life just doesn't seem fair sometimes! I hope that things work out and that the stories have happy endings!

Muser · 22/08/2010 22:11

I think I forgot to welcome Medee to the thread. So glad you joined.

Today I am happy as I ate a proper sized meal, including pudding. MrM cooked a roast dinner and it was delicious. I even had seconds. It was so nice to properly enjoy a meal instead of eating it out of duty. I can cope with the sickness if it will just confine itself to mornings now.

OP posts:
Medee · 22/08/2010 22:22

thanks Muse!

I'm starting to eat normally too - it is such a relief, though portion sizes definitely a bit smaller than normal. I weighed myself at my mum's and I am below 11 st for the first time in years - not good! Hopefully I will put it back on again soon.

Muser · 22/08/2010 22:26

Glad you're feeling better. Losing weight is a bit worrying isn't it? I at least have plenty of spare to survive on. I'm sure soon enough we'll be going in the other direction.

Zatzi · 22/08/2010 23:20

Only just found this thread - can I join your club?!!?

So far.... Have been lucky on the sickness front although fed up with boobs being agony!

Can I have your advice? I have not seen a midwife (St Mary's Paddington has "lost" me twice - first appointment is tomorrow) and still don't have a date for my 12 week scan (am 12 and 2 I think!). When I call I'm just passed from pillar to post - anyone else found similar?

Zatzi 05/03 pg#1

Madasajarofwasps · 23/08/2010 08:51

Howdy all! I am back from the wilds of Devon Grin and am feeling decidedly odd all round at the moment! The nausea is stronger but thankfully confined to the morning and evenings so at least I get a break. I feel very bloated and belchy Blush and am huffing and puffing like an old lady! My SIL's eyes nearly popped out of her head when she saw my bump! No hiding it now unless I don a scarf and baggy jumper but its just not the weather for it. My scan is 1.30 this afternoon and I am now going through my usual anxious panic, namely that I get there, wet myself on the couch and the person doing the scan saying there was never a baby in there why did I think I was pregnant?

So I keep telling myself that I have had two BFP's, no period since May, I am sick, I have a bump so what else could it be. I'll be so pleased when its over.

Hi there Zatzi and all other new ladies who have popped in during the last week. Zatzi that sounds so frustrating for you. I am in a rural area so I don't have experience of the problems like that but I think you need to shout! Demand a date for your scan, its not your fault they lost you so why should you suffer! They really should be able to squeeze you in. Good luck with your first appointment and get the mw to promise you a date for your scan. I really hope you get sorted soon.

Good luck to anyone else being scanned soon.

Oh and in case anyone was concerned, I didn't eat any dog food while I was away, that moment passed very quickly!

Finally my thoughts are with jeffily and everyone else having a worrying time. Hugs to you all xxxxx

shitforbrains · 23/08/2010 09:03

Any news jeffily?

Hi Zatsi! I am in london too - sadly it's fairly common for things like this to happen!
They lost my notes with DS2.

When they see you they SHOULD get you an urgent scan, especially if you are having the combined test. Don't worry, it all works out, I have also heard St Mary's is pretty good so once you are 'official' it should assume normal routine!

I am ok, a bit worn out, had to cancel a client on Saturday as SPD (now called PGP, for those that care) is getting slowly worse and I didn't fancy lugging lights, tables, backdrops etc to her house.

Had booking appointment on friday, arm is bruised from blood tests, and I have to have diabetes test due to BMI. Bollocks to 'em.

superpenguin · 23/08/2010 09:48

Morning all!

Hello medee and mummyGeorgie and zatzi - welcome to the thread!

supersoph I am thinking of you and hope friday brings some more reassuring news.

I am 12 weeks today and getting nervous now as scan tomorrow! Confused
My letter said drink a litre of water an hour before the appointment time! To be honest that shouldn't be a problem as I am thirsty all the time and drink loads anyway. It's just the not weeing bit that may be tricky...

medee I also lost weight, and similar to you I am now just below 11 st. (was just below 12 st before). No doubt I'll put it all and more back on over the next few months.
Funny how despite losing weight my clothes still feel tight though. I will have to follow some of your leads and get some maternity stuff soon.

Still feeling sick most of the time but less actual vomiting nowadays. Still exhausted too.

Just thinking, assuming all is ok at scan, we then plan to tell everyone, so by the end of this week everyone we know will know!

How is everyone else?

Campervanfan · 23/08/2010 12:13

Hi all, sorry I've not been on here for weeks! Sorry to hear that some of you have had not so good scans/ bleeds. I'm really nervous about the nuchal test because I'm that bit older this time (36) although my odds were really good last time with DD1. How soon do you get your blood test request before your scan? I seem to recall doing the blood test about a week before the scan last time and they told me the results of the nuchal scan on the day?

I'm still feeling mildly but constantly nauseous, peanut butter on toast is a godsend at the moment, thank god peanuts aren't banned any more!

I haven't read back beyond the new thread but hope everyone is OK and we haven't lost any beans in my absence.

My scan is on 7 September, when I'll be 12+2 - it can't come soon enough!

am988 · 23/08/2010 13:02

Hello All,

My nausea is still there unfortunately I'm hoping it will go soon - I'll be 12 wks on Sat .. so there's hope!

campervanfan my scan is also on 7 September. I agree it seems ages. I had some bloods done when I had my booking appointment and the nurse doing the bloods told me that for the nuchal scan the blood need to be done within 24hrs (?) Hopefully everything will go well, I'm not a spring chicken either (34).

I have a question for all, do we stop the folic acid on the 12th week? No one told me anything, it is just from reading ...

mendipgirl · 23/08/2010 13:55

Hi All,

I think the blood tests need to be done at the same time (or within 24hrs) of the scan to get the most accurate results. Mine were done straight after.

Folic acid till 12 weeks, but my midwife says no harm takng for longer, so I am basically going to finish the packet I have, which should last a few more weeks and then stop.

Had a meeting with my boss and a couple of colleagues on Friday and we were discussing next year's budgets and how tight they are! My boss actually said "We can't afford for anyone to go on maternity leave next year, so nobody better get pregnant", he's worried he can't afford maternity pay and cover for a job I didn't know what to do so I said nothing, but it was an awkward moment! Still haven't told him the "good" news, but am a bit worried now. I know there's nothing he pratically can do about it, but it is a bit awkward!

On another note, like others on here I am starting to feel better now, still tired, but managed to cook a proper meal last night and ate most of it!! The end of the MS is in sight!!

mendipgirl · 23/08/2010 13:56

Oh campervam, agree I am loving the peanut butter on toast, my favourite mid-morning snack! And well done on updating the list!!

Zatzi · 23/08/2010 13:58

OMG. They typed my letter wrong so missed first appt with midwife by two hours (13.15 vs 11.15). Now won't have appt until 1st Sept - 13 and 4 by my calculation.

I know some of you have had much worse things and my heart goes out to you, can't imagine what you're going through. Just feel so frustrated and let down. Thought this was what we all paid tax for...

mendipgirl · 23/08/2010 14:23

Zatzi, I would be so annoyed by this, you should see someone before 13 weeks and presumably you haven't been booked in for a scan either. Do they know it will by 13 weeks by the time you see them?

Zatzi · 23/08/2010 14:38

Yeah, they know - they've "lost" me once and "never heard of me" to begin with... GP has asked three times that I be given priority as they were running behind.... Thank god, kept my temper (rare!) and receptionist took pity on me so has booked scan for before booking appt.

On top of this I am still fuming that the health visitor told my SIL about it by email before I'd told anyone in the family (I was 10 weeks and hospital still claiming to have never heard of me...)

Keep verging on screaming / crying - not helped by fact DH is abroad and communications are down at the mo.... Fingers crossed we can speak tonight / tomorrow.

Am I just being really unlucky??

Zatzi · 23/08/2010 14:40

PS Mendipgirl, I grew up in the Mendips - perhaps I should move back for better treatment! Where abouts are you? (no worries if you don't want to say!) xxxx

Oceanbreeze · 23/08/2010 15:28

Welcome Medee and Zatzi (and anyone else I may have missed)

Thanks for the info on scans & bladders. Unfortunately where I am they are still very firm and specific (and not a little scary) on this issue - still will just have to do the best I can.

So sorry you have been so messed about Zatzi really would have driven me bonkers. Not surprised you lost your temper...and am speechless about the health visitor informing SIL. Hope you get smooth sailing from here.

Campervanfan also worried about nuchal scan. Am getting increasingly anxious as the time gets closer. Although obviously desperate to get it done at the same time. I'm older than you, so on paper my odds are shocking.

Had a brief look at prams etc in shops on Saturday. Not ready to buy or anything yet of course, just thought I'd get a head start on the info as am feeling completely clueless. Must say the trip didn't help. And the assistant had a queue of about 15 people on a clipboard who were waiting for help. I ran away whimpering slightly Grin

Larty74 · 23/08/2010 16:00

Oceanbreeze

I'm obsessed with looking at prams, er, rather travel systems online but haven't gone into a shop yet for fear of seeing someone I know. the downside of being a nursery school teacher in a small village. word gets around real fast.

also feeling completely clueless. Confused

Madasajarofwasps · 23/08/2010 18:01

Well the scan was fine and I am a week ahead of my dates so am 13+1 instead of 12+2 so my due date is 27/02 now! I am staying here though if you don't mind Wink.

I had a scary moment with a traffic jam and too much water drunk so I was 10 mins late for the appointment so I had to wait a bit longer - agony!! The bean is lovely and wriggly and there is only one! (the lady in front found out she was having twins!)

So its very real now and I am a very excited bunny. I think I was more nervous than I cared to admit so the relief is fantastic.

spilttheteaagain · 23/08/2010 18:48

Hello everybody! Haven't checked in for a bit as I've been so utterly, utterly knackered.

Welcome to the new guys, and Zatzi I too am horrified at your hospital/health visitor etc. You have been treated appallingly, and it's a stressful enough time without that sort of nonsense!

Congratulations on your scan madas, great to hear the bean is a wriggler Smile

mendip, your boss is going to be very embarrassed now when you tell him you are pregnant, what an awkward one!

I love my new mat jeans. It's magic to not have bits digging in. And they have speeded up going to the loo no end as the button/fly are all fake and you just whip the trousers up and down. I am going to the loo a lot so this is a nice timesaver Wink

Anyone else having their third or more? I'm 9 +6 with my third and although I haven't told many people I have had to tell some work people and peoples reactions are really annoying me, all I seem to get is "well you'll be busy!" ammmmmm duh???? I know I'm going to be busy there's no need to keep saying it, and by the way isn't "congratulations" the usual thing to say when someone says they are pregnant!
Sorry to rant but it's making me dread having to tell people, I nearly feel ashamed for having a third child when I'm actually delighted cause I always wanted 3!
Aaaaggggghhhh

Campervanfan · 23/08/2010 21:33

Congratulations Niamh! Grin

I've been feeling like crap all day, couldn't sleep last night worrying about stupid work things.
