Morning all

Welcome to all the newbies and hello to everyone, fab news about scans and good luck to all those having them.

I dont remeber who said it but the lady who wasnt sure about letting her husband come to the scan because he wants to know the sex, you can usually ask them to write it down or you can leave the room and the sonographer will tell him.

We are definitely finding out as awith two boys it would be nice to have a girl, although I will be very happy to have a third boy.

DS1 starting recption tomorrow, and in present pregnancy state I am massively emotional about it. He is ready and so excited.

Also, handed in my notice today. I work part time and the statutory mat pay just isnt worth staying for. They asked me to stay for and extra two weeks and in turn they are not going to take back any holiday I havent actually accrued.

Still slightly nauseous but am tryign to make an effort with make up etc to perk me up and generally feeling positive going forward.

Hello all again.

mendipgirl · 07/09/2010 13:49

Hello everyone, I seem to have been out of the loop for the last week, so congrats on all the great scans, it's nice we seem to be having lots of good news now, may it continue for the next 6-7 months!!

Have told my boss and he is okay, he's comign down today to discuss and I have an appointment with HR in a couple of weeks.

Sometimes I still can't believe I am pregnant, it doesn't seem real at all, even after the scan.

However I am completely exhausted...I don't think anyone can understand how tired you get unless you have been through it! I can't decide which is more tiring looking after DD or working?!

I really don't mind what this one is, I think ILs really want it to be a boy, but I don't mind at all, can't decide what i would pick even if I had a choice?! DH doesn't mind either so we are not going to find out but leave it for a surprise!

Campervanfan · 07/09/2010 15:31

Hi all, I had my scan and everythings fine. Soooo relieved!!! They couldn't do the nuchal fold test because the baby wasn't in the right position so I'm back on Friday for another try. Photos aren't as good as with DD1 but I really don't care, I'm just glad to see the heartbeat and a bunch of limbs waving about! EDD is now 16 March.

EvianBaby · 07/09/2010 16:55

Fab news campervanfan - it's such a relief isn't it?

I feel similar to you, mendip, about the gender of the baby, however we're the other way around... We've got a son and I think other people expect us to want (and would probably like us to have) a girl but I'm honestly not bothered. I think you're given what you're meant to have, if that makes sense?!? Part of me would love a little girl but i also know how much fun my litle boy is and can imagine what it would be like having another little monkey! I don't think I could choose even if I was able to!

I MIGHT find out and not tell people. If we do I'm not going to even tell people that we know. I think that if they know we know then they will always be trying to second guess us, my husband would be quite an easy target as he's a rubbish liar!

We didn't find out with DS though so I haven't quite made my mind up yet (although I think my husband would we very keen to know).

Hmm... being a parent is a series of constant decisions (and worries) isn't it?

Hope everyone is having a good day Smile

Purplefan · 07/09/2010 18:43

Hi everyone,

Not much to tell really.. back at work now and have some lovely children in reception, although only had 8 children this morning and none this afternoon... so can cope at the moment. They are increasing in number each day and start full time next week Hmm

Very excited and bit Hmm that scan is in 2 days!!!!

Hope all is well.

am988 · 07/09/2010 19:11

Hi All,
Great news campervanfan!

So here's me with my scan news.
My EDD date has been moved to 14.03.11 now, the strange thing was that the sonographer said that the pregnancy was too advanced to assess for the screening for the Down's infact she thought I should be 14 weeks cause baby is bigger (!?) so they offered me the Bart's test instead.

I still did the bloods after, so I'm not quite understanding what it all means & I still need to read about Bart's. Anyways, she said everything looked fine and that's the important thing.

I did shed a few tears when I saw the baby moving, kicking and waving, we could even count the fingers!! It was truly amazing.

Muser · 07/09/2010 19:21

Great news on your scan Camper.

Hi everyone - I need some reassurance/advice please. Am 11 weeks and 1 day - went for a wee about a hour ago and think I'm bleeding as the toilet paper was pink'ish (but not bright red). Just been again and the same thing has happened. Is this the start of bad news??? Didn't bleed at all during my last pregnancy (5 years ago). Due for nuchal scan/Downs syndrome bloods on 20 September and not due to see my midwife til mid October. Can anyone help me? Tell me what I should be doing? I'm fearing the worst :(

Muser · 07/09/2010 20:43

It isn't necessarily bad news chickie. It could be something completely benign. Lots of women get some spotting which turns out to be nothing.

You could call your midwife in the morning. Or use this site to help you find an Early Pregnancy Unit and see if you can self refer to one: www.earlypregnancy.org.uk/FindUs1.asp

It probably is nothing at all, but I know how scary it is. For now, try not to worry too much and look after yourself.

OP posts:
spilttheteaagain · 07/09/2010 21:06

mixedmama you said you've handed in your notice because the SMP isn't worth working for for the next few months, but I'm not sure if you've come across Maternity Allowance?

If you've been working for more than 26 weeks by the point you handed in your notice whilst pregnant then you can claim it straight from the govt. It is tax free and £124/week (or thereabouts) for 39 weeks, so very similar to SMP. Details on the directgov site if you're interested.

chickiewoo sorry to hear about that, I personally would be terrified too, but muser is right it could be absolutely fine. For peace of mind I would try your local EPU for a scan to see what's happening.

spilttheteaagain · 07/09/2010 21:23

Is anyone else just utterly crushingly exhausted?? I have had a pounding headache for the last three days now and am just knackered to my bones. Everything is too much effort!

Also, anyone else been struggling with awful lower back pain, especially after sleeping or sitting at a desk for ages? If so, any suggestions as it's miserable and wakes me up in the night? Sad

I have my 20 week scan date now - 7th Oct. Very excited about seeing the baby again and seeing it much clearer. I am also terrified incase it's not ok anymore...

bigmummajjo · 07/09/2010 21:26

Hi everyone

new to this thread!! Am due with dc 3 on the 11th march and have ds 3yrs and dd 20months!!

Hope everyone is doing well

chickiewoo · 07/09/2010 21:35

Bleeding now bright red and quite heavy - am petrified. Rang on-call midwife who told me to rest and to ring them/GP again in the morning and will try and get referral to EPU, though apparently they are really busy at the moment and doesn't expect to get me a scan prior to my nuchal scan/blood screening date of 20 Sept. Thanks for your messages of support x

Purplefan · 07/09/2010 21:47

Thinking of you Chickie and sending positive thoughts your way.

emma31177 · 07/09/2010 22:08

chickiewoo sorry to hear this why u not go a&e i no in mine they will refer u to the epu first thing in the morning dont worry am sure its going to be ok, i had a scan which showed a blob of blood which ive been told will come out at anytime but wont effect the baby fingers crossed for u hun x

Jupiter118 · 07/09/2010 22:27

As Muser says Chickiewoo it might not be bad news - I had bleeding with DS at 6, 8 and 19 weeks - terrifying, but he is now very cheeky 3.5 year old. And a friend of mine had heavy bleeds with both her pregnancies, but both DC (now 3.5 and 2) are thriving. Tis very scary though (am a fully paid up a member of the knicker checker society this time). Am keeping everything crossed for you. Hope you manage to get a scan in the morning.

On completely unrelated note and sorry if TMI, but any tips for constipation. No matter how much fruit, water etc I try and eat/drink I seem to be quite bunged most of the time. Oh the joys.

x

Oceanbreeze · 08/09/2010 08:10

G'morning everyone.

Welcome to all newcomers.

Congratulations to all that are having/have had scans - I think it really is a milestone, and having a visual image is just fantastic.

Chickie so sorry, but just want to reiterate what others have said - it might not be bad news. I had a bleed (bright red gush - possibly tmi sorry) earlier in this pregnancy. Midwife sent me to A&E who then referred me back for an early scan...which showed all was ok. Only theory given 'maybe a fibroid'. Anyway, sending good thoughts in your direction.

Jupiter not an expert, but I tried Fybogel (not recommended, like drinking snot, induced retching but little else) & Lactulose Solution (liquid, tastes a bit like cough meds, knocked it back, provoking fond memories of my pre-pregnancy shot drinking days. Was somewhat successful). But I would check with your GP or a pharmacist.

Spilt yes I'm with you on the crushing exhaustion. And I'm still waiting for the nausea to subside. I had one headache that lasted 24hours, so I completely sympathise. Also does anyone else have big sneezie attacks - leaves me gulping for air looking absolutely demented. Sooo, not a good public look - especially when you have signalled for everyone's attention with the ear splitting sneezes Blush

Chickie sending positive thoughts your way. Like lots of others, I had a gush of blood at about 10 weeks and feared the worst, I was on holiday so couldn't have a scan till i got back, but all was fine. I know its horrible having to wait, and almost impossible to stay positive but it seems very common and doesn't always mean the worst. Could it be sex related, thats why I bled.

Hi bigmummajjo and congratulations!

Hi everyone else. I have intermittent constipation which acts as a stopper for the squidgy poo behind it. It is so hard not to strain! I was on the loo for 40 minutes yesterday, and it brought a sweat on. Good birthing practice though. I think the trick is to try and go when ever you feel the urge, I try a walk round the block 'relaxing' my bowels to try and get things going. Sorry if TMI put I guess we will be covered in poo and sick in a few months time so can't be too squeamish.

Good news on the scans campervanfanand am988!!

NowPanicAndFreakOut · 08/09/2010 10:55

Chickie all my thoughts are with you - really hope that you've managed to ge a scan and that you get good news.

Ocean am same with sneezing - and permanently sniffing (so attractive!). As well as annoying me, I keep thinking people will think I'm a coke addict (obviously people that don't know me very well lol!)

Btw have changed name from Zatzi - will update list later as am currently on iPhone.

chickiewoo · 08/09/2010 11:36

Thanks my lovelies for all your kind words - have been bleeding during the night but seems to have stopped now. Am waiting for midwife to ring me with hopefully appointment for scan at EPU. The other thing that is really worrying me is that I have been suffering really bad with vomiting and nausea every day for the past 7 weeks - today I feel fine which bothers me - think if I still felt rough then that would give me some hope. Emotionally I'm all over the place as DS started school this week and it's his first day full time today - trying to hold myself together. Will update you when I have any news xx

Maitri · 08/09/2010 12:26

Hello everyone, I've been lurking for a few weeks but was reluctant to join as I had a MMC in March so wanted to wait until the 12wk scan. It's been wonderful reading all the great news about people's scans and my thoughts have been with everyone who hasn't had such great news.

Had the scan on Monday - all fine and NT results look good too despite my age (39) and pessimistic certainty that all wouldn't be well!

This is DC#3; I have DS 14 and DD6 so a fairly big age gap between them. Due March 15th, I'll put myself on the list.

Chickie you poor thing - you must be feeling so scared at the moment. I had bleeding earlier in this pg and, just as everyone has said, it's not necessarily a bad sign.

Just heard from midwife - have scan at EPU booked for next Monday 13 at 10.30 a.m. - not happy that I have to wait that long but nothing I can do :( Can't face going into work this week (I work part-time 2.5 days on a job share) so will ring in sick. Just trying to rest up a bit at home watching rubbish tv! Keep fingers crossed for me x
